Mr. Moses Brown, 53, of Newnan, Ga. died March 27, 2002 at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta.
He was born March 18, 1949 in Coweta County to the late Robert and Willie Brown. He joined the Zion Hill Baptist Church at an early age.
A funeral will be Saturday, March 30 at 11 a.m. at Zion Hill Baptist Church in Newnan with the Rev. W. J. Johnson officiating, assisted by the Rev. R. W. Sutton and Rev. J. L. Hendricks. Burial will be in Eastview Cemetery. Pallbearers will be members of the Class of 1967.

Mr. James Edward Hefner
Mr. James Edward Hefner, 77, of Sharpsburg, Ga., died Thursday, March 28, 2002 at Emory Hospital in Atlanta.
Mr. Hefner was born to Clark and Eunice Hefner in Buckhannon, West Virginia in 1924. After high school he attended and received his bachelor's degree in theology from Moody Bible Institute in Illinois and later earned his Master's of Divinity from Liberty University in Virginia. In World War II he served in the Army in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre. After deciding to make the military his career, he joined the Air Force when it became a separate division within the Department of Defense and served in the Korean Conflict. Before his retirement in 1965 he was stationed at Chanute AFB, Illinois as a parachute rigging instructor and obtained the nickname "Barracuda." After retiring from the U.S. Air Force, Mr. Hefner moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida and worked as a Florida State Surveyor and was also involved with Airport Security. He moved to the Sharpsburg area 10 years ago to be near his daughter, Tami.
Mr. Hefner was a very active and hard-working man. During his life he was a devoted student of the scripture, continually studying, reading and teaching the Bible. He was a member of the Sharpsburg Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, a 32nd Degree Mason, a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a life member of the American Legion, a member of the Air Force Sergeant's Association, and an expert in genealogy. But, he will be most remembered for simple things: his good nature and generosity toward others, his love for nature, his exuberant personality, never meeting a stranger, and being a "big kid" and a "cut up" with his family.
Mr. Hefner is survived by two daughters, Tami Lopez and her husband Jack of Sharpsburg, Ga., and Lisa Martin and her husband Lee of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; step-mother, Mrs. Mildred Hefner of Charlotte, North Carolina; brothers, Calvin E. Hefner of Charlotte, North Carolina and Billy Hefner of New York City, New York; sister, Mrs. Phyllis Vaughn of Phoenix, Arizona; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and many friends.
The family will receive friends at Jones Funeral Home in Newnan from 5-7 p.m. Saturday, March 30. A funeral will follow the visitation at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 30 with the Bishop John Williams officiating.
Burial will be at 2 p.m. Monday, April 1 at Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon, West Virginia.

Mrs. Sue Sims Linder, 84, died Wednesday, March 27, 2002 at her home.
She was the daughter of the late William James and Susie Richards Sims. She was retired after many years of service from McKinney Electrical Contractors in Atlanta and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Palmetto. She was preceded in death by her husband, Colonel Kenneth Linder, U.S. Air Force Retired, and her brother, W. J. Sims Jr.
Surviving is her nephew, Robert R. Sims of Palmetto.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday, April 1, in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home in Fairburn with Rev. Ron Allen officiating. Burial will be later in Arlington National Cemetery.

Mr. Harry Estel Moss, 86, of Loretta Lane, Luthersville, Ga., died Wednesday, March 27, 2002 at his residence.
He was born Feb. 22, 1916 in Green County, Ky. He was retired from the United States Air Force.
A funeral will be at Luthersville United Methodist Church Saturday, March 30 at 4 p.m. Visitation with the family will follow the service. Rev. Rance Sprayberry will officiate.
Surviving are his sons, David Joyner and Ralph Joyner, both of Florida, and Douglas Moss of Hiram, Ga.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Annette M. Peek, 77, of Sunny South Street, Newnan, Ga., died March 27, 2002 at Newnan Hospital.
She was born August 9, 1924 to the late William Oscar McElroy and the late Vara Jones. She worked as a pharmaceutical clerk and was Baptist by faith.
A funeral was Friday, March 29 at 2 p.m. at Martin and Hightower Hillcrest Chapel in Newnan. Dr. George Dillard officiated, and burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan.

Mrs. Annie Frances Bishop, 69, of Bailey Drive, Newnan, Ga. died Monday, March 25, 2002 at Newnan Hospital.
She was born in Coweta County, Ga. July 31, 1932, daughter of the late Mr. Levoit Johnson and Mrs. Jewell Harris Bryan. She was a homemaker and raised a large family.
She was preceded in death by husband Floyd Bishop and son Jimmy Williams.
A funeral was Wednesday, March 27 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Martin and Hightower Hillcrest Chapel with the Rev. Terry Calhoun and Rev. Clifford Harmon officiating. Music was performed by Scott Harmon, Karen and Leann.

Col. Nathan S. Hale
Col. Nathan S. Hale, 74, of Bayless Road, Jonesborough, Tenn., died March 3, 2002 at his residence.
He was a Fleming, Ky., native and son of the late Robert I. and Bernice C. Hale.
He received an undergraduate degree from Milligan College, a master's degree from East Tennessee State University and completed postgraduate work at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
He was a decorated Korean War veteran, having served in the Marine Corps from 1952-83, and retied with the rank of full colonel.
Hale was principal of Sulphur Springs High School 1957-71, and Daniel Boone High School 1971-80.
He was superintendent of Washington County Schools from 1980-84, and was elected to the Washington County Board of Education in 1986, serving as chairman from 1992-94.
Hale was a member of the American Heart Association, Masonic Lodge, Shriner's, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion, and a lifetime member of the Marine Corps Reserve Officers Association and the Retired Officers Associaiton.
He was a member of Sulphur Springs Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Shirley Warren Hale; two brothers, John Hale and Benjamin Hale; and one sister, Roberta English.
Surviving are wife, Eleanor C. Hale; two sons, Warren Cutshaw Hale, Jonesborough, and Nathan Scott Hale Jr., Fairview; daughter, Melony Johnson, Knoxville; stepson, Greg Clark, Knoxville; three sisters, Doris DeSilva, Columbia, S.C., Eunice Reynolds, Louisville, Ky., and Imogene Brown, Morganton, N.C.; ten grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Mr. Frank N. Collinsworth, 77, of Palmetto, died Monday, March 25, 2002 at Southern Regional Medical Center.
A native of Coweta County, he was the son of the late Welborn and Jewell Rainwater Collinsworth. He was an Army veteran of World War II, member of Fairburn Lodge No. 180, Ramah Baptist Church and owner of Frank's Sheet and Metal in Palmetto.
He was preceded in death by his son, Sonny Collinsworth in 1982.

Mr. John Thomas (J. T.) Whatley, 66, of Newnan, died March 23, 2002 at LaGrange Hospice Care.
Mr. Whatley was born May 22, 1935 in Coweta County to the late Mr. Andrew Whatley and Mrs. Salley Whatley. He joined the Mount Carmel A.M.E. Church at an early age. He married Mrs. Gladys Carmichael Whatley and they had four children, two of whom preceded him in death.

Mr. Roberts was born May 11, 1930 in Coweta County. He was a retired truck driver and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

Mrs. Arvis Ruffin
Mrs. Arvis Ruffin, 81, of Newnan, Ga., died at Newnan Hospital Monday, March 25, 2002.
Mrs. Ruffin was born in Meriwether County in 1921 to Thomas and Minnie Turnner. Most of her life was spent in the Senoia and Newnan area. She was a tireless forker, working in the textile mills while raising her family and even after retirement worked for Three Crowns Antiques. She loved people, animals, fishing, Braves baseball and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
Mrs. Ruffin is preceded in death by husbands Floyd Lee Crawford and Joseph Henry Ruffin and a grandson, Robert Rhodes.
Surviving are two sons, Jerry Crawford and wife Vicky of Warner Robins, Ga. and Robert Crawford and wife Vicki of Newnan; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mr. Billy Duke, 84, of Roswell and formerly of Newnan, died Saturday March 23, 2002.
Mr. Duke was born March 7, 1918 in Mississippi County, Ark., to the late J.C. and Eva Duke. Mr. Duke served in the U.S. Army during World War II and in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was a resident of Newnan for over 40 years, and was the developer of the Bellcare Woods subdivision. Mr. Duke retired from Delta Airlines after 35 years of service and was a member of the Delta Pioneers Club.
A funeral will be held Monday, March 25, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Northside Chapel, 12050 Crabapple Road, Roswell. The Rev. Searcy Jackson will officiate, and burial will be in the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery in Newnan at 3 p.m., with the Rev. John Riley in charge at graveside.

Mrs. Rosalie Wootten Deck, born October 9, 1905 in Atlanta, died in Charlottesville, Virginia, March 16, 2002 after a brief illness.
She had resided in East Point, Ga. until she moved to the Martha Jefferson House in Charlottesville in 1998.
Mrs. Deck was the daughter of Rosa Johns and Harry Pope Wootten. In 1928 she married L. Linton Deck, a public educator and Army Reserve officer. They were married for 51 years, until his death in 1979.
Surviving are sons, L. Linton Deck Jr. and his wife Patricia of Newnan and John David Deck and wife Polly of Charlottesville, Va.; seven grandchildren, Dayna Deck of University City, MO., Laura Deck of Nashville, TN, Sarah Deck Stevens of Santa Fe, NM, David Deck Jr. of Richmond, VA, Rev. Hampton Deck of Benicia, CA, Stewart Deck of Arlington, MA, and Emily Deck Harrill of Columbia, SC; 14 great-grandchildren; and three nephews.
A memorial service, led by Rev. Martin Huggins and Rev. Hampton Deck, will be held at the College Park Presbyterisn Church on Saturday, March 23 at 1 p.m. Burial in Atlanta will be private.

Rev. Holston was born July 17, 1953 to the late Dea. Harold Holston and Mrs. Clyde Holston. He married Diane Murry December 24, 1972. They had one son, Travis D. Holston.

Mrs. McCrary was born October 12, 1927 to the late Sam and Delia Prather. She married Walter McCrary September 3, 1955. Prior to her marriage on May 4, 1942, she gave birth to a son, Robert Lee Wood, her only child.
Surviving are her husband, Walter McCrary; son, Coweta County Commissioner Robert L. Wood and his wife Deloris; sister, Ms. Melia B. Gray; two very special nieces whom she raised, Delia Bolton (Aaron) and Shirley Bonner (Bonell); an ex-daughter-in-law; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, friends and relatives.

Mrs. Mary Kathryn Miller, a life-long resident of DeFuniak Springs, Florida, died Tuesday, March 19, 2002 at a local hospital. She was born October 3, 1910 in Bruce, Florida to John Hartley and Nannie McDonald Lassiter.
Mrs. Miller was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in DeFuniak Springs, Florida, and was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 115 of DeFuniak Springs, Fla.
She was preceeded in death by her husband Curtis Ralph Miller (former sheriff of Walton County); two daughters; one son; three brothers, Luther Hartley Lassiter, Dewey Mattew Lassiter Sr. and Willie Dee Lassiter; and two sisters, Carrie Carr and Addie Gomillion.
She is survivied by a son, George Ralph Miller and wife Dawne of DeFuniak Springs, Florida; one daughter, Fay M. Hardy of DeFuniak Springs, Florida, and Newnan, Ga.; grandchildren, Melanie Hardy Mohney of Gardiner, Maine, Mary Leslie Hardy of Atlanta, Ga., George Ralph Miller Jr. of Ocala, Florida, Jennifer M. Brannon of DeFuniak Springs, Fla., Courtney Celeste Miller of DeFuniak Springs, Fla.; Curtis Caswell Miller of DeFuniak Springs, Fla., and six great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Marguerite Warner "Tan" Young, 70, of Senoia, Ga., will be remembered at a funeral Saturday, March 23, 2002 at 1 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Moreland, Ga.

Mrs. Young was born November 28, 1931 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Emory (Florrie) Warner Sr. She joined Mt. Calvary Baptist at an early age, where she worked faithfully until an auto accident prevented her from doing so in December 1978. She married the late Mr. Frontz Young Sr. in August 1947 and they had three daughters and five sons.
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Tishana Vernae Strickland.

Mrs. Rosalie Wootten Deck
Mrs. Rosalie Wootten Deck, born October 9, 1905 in Atlanta, died in Charlottesville, Virginia, March 16, 2002 after a brief illness.
She had resided in East Point, Ga. until she moved to the Martha Jefferson House in Charlottesville in 1998.
A graduate of Agnes Scott College in 1926, she taught at Queens College, Charlotte, N.C. for two years, and after marriage taught from time to time in the Fulton County public schools. Music and singing early became a favorite activity, and she was a leader in choirs of her churches until moving to Virginia.
She had a similar life-long commitment to the Presbyterian Church, and was a member of the Georgia Avenue and College Park churches in the Atlanta area and the Westminster Church in Charlottesville. She served as a choir director for the Georgia Avenue Church for more than 35 years, and sang in the College Park choir. She taught in Sunday schools, was active in Women of the Church, and served as an officer in Presbyterial and Synodial organizations.
Mrs. Deck was the daughter of Rosa Johns and Harry Pope Wootten. In 1928 she married L. Linton Deck, a public educator and Army Reserve officer. They were married for 51 years, until his death in 1979.
Surviving are sons, L. Linton Deck Jr. and his wife Patricia of Newnan and John David Deck and wife Polly of Charlottesville, Va.; seven grandchildren, Dayna Deck of University City, MO., Laura Deck of Nashville, TN, Sarah Deck Stevens of Santa Fe, NM, David Deck Jr. of Richmond, VA, Rev. Hampton Deck of Benicia, CA, Stewart Deck of Arlington, MA, and Emily Deck Harrill of Columbia, SC; 14 great-grandchildren; and three nephews.
A memorial service, led by Rev. Martin Huggins and Rev. Hampton Deck, will be held at the College Park Presbyterian Church on Saturday, March 23 at 1 p.m. Burial in Atlanta will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to endowment funds of the College Park Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Franklin Hall, 69, of Fischer Road, Newnan, died Wednesday, March 20, 2002 at Southwest Christian Hospice.
Mr. Hall was born November 8, 1932 in Coweta County, Ga. Born and raised in Coweta County, he was a member of the National Guard for eight years. He was a life-long member of Hope Memorial Baptist Church. A fourth-generation merchant, he operated Hall's Grocery Story in north Coweta County.
The family was receiving friends at McKoon Funeral Home Thursday from 6-9 p.m.
A funeral will be in McKoon's chapel Friday, March 22 at 11 a.m. The Rev. Billy Burks and the Rev. Joel Heaton will officiate. Burial will be at Hope Memorial Baptist Church cemetery.

He joined Oak Grove Baptist Church at an early age, where he served faithfully. He later joined Deliverance Revival Center. He went into the ministry in 1974 and traveled many years spreading God's word as a member of Angelic Voices of Deliverance and UGH Ensemble. He served as assistant pastor at Fellowship Christian Center. He was employed by Alenco for many years and at the time of his death was employed by Confort View Products.
He married Diane Murry December 24, 1972. They had one son, Travis D. Holston.

Mrs. McCrary was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and served as the president of the usher board for many years. As a young Christian, she was a member of Wesley Chapel A.M.E. Church until she moved to town.
Her family was her life. She took care of various family members during their time of illness and always was available when someone needed a helping hand. She raised some of her nieces and nephews and was affectionately known as Aunt Hat. She was always available when a family member got sick and they could always get some advice and love when around her. Her grandchildren will always remember the special boxes that would arrive in San Diego just in time for opening on Christmas evening. She was a very special person to all who knew her.
Her early employment was various housekeeping duties and one of her employer families, Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Machen, were kind enough to assist her in purchasing a house where she lived until her health declined.
At Morrison Nursing Home, she cooked for several years; and she later retired from the Coweta County Board of Education, having worked at Ruth Hill School.
A sister preceded her in death.

Mrs. Mae Dell Boswell O'Neal, 90, of Newnan, died Wednesday, March 20, 2002 at Beaulieu Convalescent Center in Newnan.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday, March 22 in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. Dr. Bobby Helton and the Rev. Ken Rose will officiate, and burial will be in the Grantville Cemetery.
Mrs. O'Neal was born July 4, 1911 in Meriwether County, daughter of the late James Robet Boswell and the late Ida Belle Attaway Boswell. She was a lifelong resident of Coweta County, was a Baptist, and was retired from Grantville Mills. She was the wife of the late Rev. Roy O'Neal.
Surviving are daughter, Mrs. Betty Perry of Newnan; three sons, Billie O'Neal of Foley, Alabama, Donald O'Neal and James T. O'Neal, both of Newnan; four sisters, Mrs. Eunice Pate and Mrs Jean Hand, both of Newnan, Mrs. Elizabeth Smith of Griffin, and Mrs. Mildred Phillips of Hogansville; 12 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Peggy Joyce O'Neal, and a son, Jackie O'Neal.

Mr. William Marshall Red, 81, of Franklin, Ga., died Wednesday, March 20, 2002 at Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton, Ga.
Mr. Red was born in Murray County, Ga. to the late William Starling Red and Golda Mae Adams Red. He was a Methodist by faith and retired from the Franklin Aluminum Company where he worked in the Automotive Department. He served his country in the United States Army. For his great service he obtained the rank of corporal, and was presented the EAMET Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He was a much loved father and grandfather.
A funeral will be Friday, March 22 at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Tom Stutts and Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Talmadge Lumpkin officiating. Burial will be in Harmony Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Barnes was born August 23, 1945 in Palmetto, Ga. to the late Mr. Ardaway Barnes and Mrs. Pollie Hall Mickey. He was loved by everyone who knew him and always tried to bring a smile to everyone he talked to. His life was devoted to trying to help others. Three brothers preceded him in death, Joe Lewis Barnes, Millard Barnes and John Henry Barnes.

Mr. Ernest Preston Johnson Sr.
Mr. Ernest Preston Johnson Sr., 85, formerly of Avondale Estates, Ga. and Decatur, Ga., died Tuesday, March 19, 2002 in Newnan where he had lived for the past two years with his son, Preston Johnson Jr. and daughter-in-law Claudia Johnson.
He was a member of Avondale Pattillo United Methodist Church, a Navy Veteran of World War II, an avid Braves fan, and the owner of Avondale Food Store in Avondale Estates for many years. While in the grocery business Mr. Johnson ws the subject of an article in the Atlanta Journal, "He Survived Supermarkets," that explained why so many people in the Avondale area thought his neighborhood store was the only place to shop.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Ella Bert Kitchens Johnson and one grandson.
Surviving are son, Preston Johnson Jr.; daughter-in-law, Claudia Johnson of Newnan; daughter, Joyce Osburn; son-in-law, Frank Osburn of Woodbridge, Virginia; five grandchildren and give great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at a later date in Greensboro, Ga.
