Mrs. Ruth Evelyn Hoagland, 86, of Pelham, Tennessee, died Friday, March 8, 2002 at her home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard E. Hoagland; son, Mert Hoagland; granddaughter, Tracy Hoagland.
Surviving are a son, Howard Stephen Hoagland; three daughters, Ruth Ann Cornelison, Tullahoma, Martha Corley of Newnan and Mary Ann Meeks of Pelham; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday, 3-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Miss Kelly Renee Mincy
Miss Kelly Renee Mincy, 14, of Dixon Road, Newnan, died Sunday, March 10, 2002 in an Atlanta Hospital.
Miss Mincy was born January 20, 1988 in Coweta County, daughter of Cathy Mincy Caswell and the late Thomas Mincy. She was an eighth grade student at Newnan Christian School and a member of Bible Baptist Church. Besides her father, she was preceded in death by maternal grandparents Paul and Betty Dupree.
Surviving are her mother and step-father Cathy and Glenn Caswell, Newnan, paternal grandparents Henry and Ethel Mincy, Atlanta, and J. P. and Grace Caswell of Newnan. Also surviving are two brothers, Justin Caswell and Matthew Caswell, both of Newnan.
A funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Bible Baptist Church with Rev. Doug Anderson officiating. The remains will be placed in state at the church one hour prior to service time.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 6-9 p.m.
Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Garden.

Mrs. Jessie Lee Norman, 91, of E. Camp Street in Moreland, died Friday, March 8, 2002, at Beaulieu Convalescent Center.
Born Feb. 26, 1911, in Roopville, Mrs. Norman was a retired textile worker for Moreland Knitting Mill. She was a member of Moreland First Baptist Church.
Funeral services for Mrs. Norman were Sunday at 4 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home, with Reverend Jerry Eley officiating. Burial was at Southview Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Steve Bowie, Jarrod Gross, Jeff Gross, Ray Norman, Roger Norman and William Lee.
Survivors include two daughters, Glenda Fry and Gerrie E. Gross, both of Moreland; one sister, Una Coutee of Moreland; and 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles B. and Willie A. Smith Word; her husband, Grover Norman; and two sons, Billy Ray and James K. "Scooter" Norman.

Mrs. Emily Spradlin Yearta, 60, of Piedmont, S.C., and formerly of Hogansville, died Saturday, March 9, 2002, at Hospice of Anderson in Anderson, S.C.
Mrs. Yearta was born Aug. 22, 1941, in Franklin to the late John and Maggie Wright Spradlin. She lived in Hogansville before making her home in Piedmont in January of this year, and was a member of Bible Baptist Church in Hogansville.
A funeral will be held Tuesday, March 12, 2002, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Rev. R.C. Prescott will officiate, and burial will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville.

Mrs. Lola Kate Reese Clements
Mrs. Lola Kate Reese Clements, 94, died Tuesday, March 5, 2002.
Born Sept. 11, 1907, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Abe and Kizzie Reese of Meriwether County. Mrs. Clements was the founder of Triumph Holiness Church in Luthersville, where she was a "strong vessel for God" and a "fervent pillar of her community and family." She was also the owner and operator of Clements Grocery. Mrs. Clements was affectionately known by her family and friends as "Mo Kate."
Funeral services for Mrs. Clements were Saturday, March 9, 2002 at St. Paul C.M.E. Church in Lone Oak, Ga., with Reverend T.D. Brown officiating and assisted by Prince J.F. Knight, Bishop James Keith and Minister J.F. Booker. Interment followed at the Zion Hill Baptist Church cemetery in Luthersville. Pallbearers were her grandsons, James Skip Clements, Gerald Clements, David Clements, Melvin Sewell, Ronnie Sewell, Willie Clements Jr. and Bennie Sewell.
Preceding Mrs. Clements in death, besides her parents, was one son, Reverend Ike Reese.

Mrs. Essie Jackson
Mrs. Essie Jackson, 89, died Tuesday, March 5, 2002.
Born May 20, 1912, Mrs. Jackson was a member of Greater Mount Zion A.M.E., where she participated in The Women's Missionary Society, The Usher Board, The Pulpit Committee and the Hospitality Committee. Mrs. Jackson was instrumental in starting what is known as an "Old Fashion Revival" at her church. Because of this revival, her church was able to purchase the furniture that now sits in the pulpit. She also cooked at Dunaway Gardens and The Elks Club, among other institutions.
Funeral services for Mrs. Jackson was Saturday, March 9, 2002, at Greater Mount Zion A.M.E. Church, with the Reverend R.W. Sutton officiating and assisted by Reverend Jarvis Childs and Reverend J.W. Russell Sr. Interment followed at Jones Chapel Cemetery in Roscoe. Pallbearers included Sam Wood, Kenneth Thornton, Ray Ward, Willie Wilkerson, Andre Alford and Roderick Hill.
Survivors include her daughter, Sallie W. Cora Lee McElhannon, 89, of Hapeville, died Saturday, March 9, 2002.
Mrs. McElhannon was a medical secretary and bookkeeper for 25 years. Well known for her peach pies, she was involved in catering for several years. She was active in local politics and was responsible for placing College Street School in Hapeville on the National Register of Historic Places.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 12, 2002 at the Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home chapel at 11 a.m., with Dr. William J. Lacy officiating. Interment will be at the College Park Cemetery. Family will receive friends Monday, March 11, 2002, between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hollyday was born September 14, 1920 in Hamm, Luxembourg. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Lula Pearl Watkins, 79, of Cleveland, Ohio and formerly of Newnan died March 2, 2002.
Mrs. Watkins was born June 3, 1922 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Feariby. She was married to the late Tolerson Watkins Sr. and they had five children. Two preceded her in death, Mary C. Watkins and Tolerson Watkins Jr. She joined the Evergreen Methodist Church at an early age and later was a member of Summer Hill Baptist Church.

Mr. William Troy Bledsoe
Mr. William Troy Bledsoe, 73, of Franklin, Ga., died Tuesday, March 5, 2002 at his home after several years of declining health.
Mr. Bledsoe was born in Carroll County, Ga. on August 12, 1928 to the late William Carl Bledsoe and Pearlie Estelle Hammond Bledsoe. Following World War II Mr. Bledsoe enlisted in the United States Army. He served in the Japanese Theatre where he earned the Army Occupation Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He was a Baptist by faith. Mr. Bledsoe was a well-known business man in Heard County for 32 years. He will long be remembered for taking time for people as he worked.
A funeral will be Thursday, March 7 at the Tom Stutts and Son Funeral Home chapel. Burial will be in the Centralhatchee Baptist Church Cemetery. The family was receiving guests at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m.

Mrs. Ursula Margaret Simmons Skrmetti, 73, of Biloxi, Mississippi, died Thursday, February 14, 2002.
Born December 14, 1928, Mrs. Skrmetti was a teacher and a member of St. John's Catholic Church. She was a lifelong resident of Biloxi.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Simmons Sr. and two sisters, Anna Mae Simmons and Mary Ellen Simmons.
Survivors include her husband, Thomas Skrmetti Sr. of Biloxi; seven sons, Thomas Skrmetti Jr. of Mystic, Connecticut; Michael Skrmetti of Biloxi, Anthony Skrmetti of Biloxi, Peter Skrmetti of Newnan, Ga., Joseph Skrmetti of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, John Skrmetti of Biloxi and Gregory Skrmetti Sr. of Ocean Springs; sister, Annette King of Madison, Mississippi; brother, John Simmons Jr. of Ocean Springs; 16 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Henry Calhoun, Jr., 73, of Morris Road, Newnan, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002, at his home.
He was born in Coweta County June 29, 1928. He served in the Navy in World War II wnd received the Victory Medal. He was a retired minister, called into the ministry in 1948. He was the pastor of five churches in Coweta and Meriwether Counties; and as a result of his ministry, five local churches were founded. Rev. Calhoun was a full-time pastor of Open Door Baptist Church.
A funeral was held Friday, March 1, at 3 p.m. at Open Door Baptist Church. The Revs. Frank Strickland, Carl Calhoun, Terry Calhoun, and Brian Calhoun officiated, and burial was in the Calvary Baptist Church cemetery on Hwy. 16 in Senoia. Pallbearers were John Barge, Jerry Bass, Ronny Bass, Walt Bishop, Everett Byrom, Steve Crews, Millard Eskew and Mike Hill.

Mrs. Opal Freeman Moore, 80, of Fayetteville, GA, died Monday, March 4, 2002 at Portsbridge Hospice.
A native of Carroll County, GA, she was born April 18, 1921. She was retired from the former James River plant. She loved cooking for her family and was very active in her church. She loved helping others and went out of her way to look for ways to help. Her children agree that she was the most genuine Christian woman they knew and that she ws a true prayer warrior.

Ms. Gibby was a homemaker and of the Church of God faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Gibby, in 1979, and a son, Tom Gibby, in 1990.

Mr. Jack Lee Tenney, 55, of Newnan, died Sunday,March 3, 2002.
Mr. Tenney was born in Meriwether County in 1946 to Steve Tenney and the late Martha Tenney. He was diagnosed with polio when he was 14 months old and battled the disease and its effects all his life.
A funeral will be held Tuesday, March 5, 2002, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Jones Funeral Home. Minister Mansel Carpenter will officiate, and burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Ms. Nancy Mapp, 62, of Newnan, died Saturday, March 2, 2002, at her home.
Ms. Mapp was born May 8, 1939, in Longbranch, N.J. She was a retired housekeeper.

Mrs. Florence Hawk Brockway, 84, of Luthersville, died Friday March 1, 2002, at the home of her son in Luthersville.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at the Luthersville Baptist Church. The Reverend Joe Felder and Reverend Clarence Denney will officiate, and interment will be in the Luthersville Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Randy Vance, Michale Worley, Travis Brockway, Cory Brockway, Scotty Crawford and Richard Thomas. Honorary pallbearers will be John Trott and James Redwine.
Mrs. Brockway was born Aug. 29, 1917 in Heard County, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hawk. A resident of Luthersville since 1950, she was a member of the Luthersville Baptist Church and was the wife of the late Russell Davis Brockway.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Johnny Hobbs of Luthersvile; two sons and daughters-in-law, Reese and Kathy Brockway, and Seaborn and Kathy Brockway, all of Luthersville; eight grandchildren, James Brockway, Lisa Wilson, Tammy Worley, Becky Vance, Cory Brockway, Travis Brockway, Jerry Hobbs and Ashley Hobbs; and seven great-grandchildren.

Joseph 'Junior' Rooks, 73, of Arnco, died Friday, March 1, 2002, at Beaulieu Convalescent Center.
Born April 13, 1928, Mr. Rooks was retired from the City of Newnan after 19 years of service.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. today at McKoon Funeral Home, with Dr. C.A. Jernigan and Reverend Ken Norton officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Charles Cooper, Jerry Gill, Chad King, Jeff McLain, Randy McLain and Sean Rooks.

Mr. Brown M. Dollar, 93, of Hogansville, died Thursday, Feb. 28, at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.
Mr. Dollar was born Aug. 10, 1908 in Meriwether County, son of the late Jesse Cleveland Dollar and the late Allie Mobley Dollar. He was a lifelong resident of Meriwether County and was a member of Union Baptist Church. He was a retired farmer and carpenter.
The funeral will be held Saturday, March 2, at 2 p.m. at Union Baptist Church in the St. Marks Community of Meriwether County. The Rev. Bill Smith and the Rev. Searcy Jackson will officiate and interment will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Hazel Nicholson Gantt
Mrs. Hazel Nicholson Gantt, 81, of Moreland died Thursday, Feb. 28, at Starcrest Convalescent Center in Newnan.
Mrs. Gantt was born June 12, 1920 in Atlanta, daughter of the late Henry and Effie Thornton Nicholson. A former resident of Douglas County, she lived in Coweta County since 1952 and was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. She was the wife of the late John A. Gantt.
The funeral will be Saturday, March 2, at 11 am. in the Chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Rev. March Boyd, Dr. Melvin Payne and Dr. Billy Burks will officiate and interment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Newnan.

Mr. William "Buddie" Barnes
Mr. William "Buddie" Barnes, 62, of Newnan, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002, at his home.
Mr. Barnes was born Aug. 24, 1939, in Newnan. At the age of 19, he began his law enforcement career as a deputy at the Coweta County Sheriff's Department, under Sheriff Lamar Potts. His long and distinguished career in law enforcement led him to jobs at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, and the Georgia Department of Corrections, where he retired in Aug. of 2001.
A funeral will be held Friday, March 1, 2002, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home. Dr. Gene Tyre and the Rev. Larry Lattimer will officiate, and burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Mrs. Bonita Frances Barron
Mrs. Bonita Frances Barron, 81, of Thomaston and formerly of Newnan, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002, after an extended illness.
Mrs. Barron was born in 1921 to the late Walter and Odessa Morris in Augusta. She spent most of her life in Porterdale, Ga., and moved to Newnan to be near her family after the death of her husband, the late Earl Eugene Barron, in 1985. Mrs. Barron enjoyed going to church and especially gospel singings. She was a member of the Church on the Rock in Jenkinsburg, Ga., and attended Oak Lawn Baptist Church in Newnan. She will be remembered by her friends and family as always enjoying life, telling jokes, and "cutting up."
A funeral will be held Saturday, March 2, 2002, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Jones Funeral Home. The Rev. Buddy Morris will officiate, and burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Peachtree Memorial Gardens in Norcross.

The Rev. Henry Clinton Calhoun, Jr.
The Rev. Henry Clinton Calhoun, Jr., 73, of Newnan, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002, at his home.
Rev. Calhoun was born June 29, 1928, in Coweta County. He was called to the ministry in 1948, and served as the pastor of five churches in Coweta and Meriwether counties. As a result of his ministry, five local churches were founded. Rev. Calhoun was a full-time pastor of Open Door Baptist Church in Senoia.
Rev. Calhoun served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and received the Victory Medal.
A funeral will be held Friday, March 3, 2002, at 3 p.m. at Open Door Baptist Church. The Revs. Frank Strickland, Carl Calhoun, Terry Calhoun, and Brian Calhoun will officiate, and burial will be in the Calvary Baptist Church cemetery on Hwy. 16 in Senoia.

Miss Adrianna Renee Sewell, 11, of Atlanta, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002.
Miss Sewell was born Aug. 1, 1990. She was an honor student at Ralph Bunche Middle School and was loved by all of her peers and teachers.
She gave her life to God at an early age. Miss Sewell was a kind-hearted, loving, sensitive individual who was touched by everyone she met. She loved God dearly and often sang his praises.
Miss Sewell attended the Day Dawn Chapel, Mystic Church in Atlanta, and the Church of Christ Westside in Newnan. She attended Town Elementary, and Collier Heights and Ralph Bunche middle schools in Atlanta. She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, John Robert Sewell and Charlie Cox, Jr.
Miss Sewell had many goals and ambitions, but her ultimate dream was to become a doctor.
A funeral was held Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002, at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Moreland. The Rev. Dr. Joseph Lemon officiated, and burial was in Lone Oak Cemetery.

Mrs. Jane Sinkler, 80, of Newnan, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2002, at Newnan Hospital.
Mrs. Sinkler was born Dec. 6, 1921, in Blythedale, Mo. A bookkeeper, she was raised in Switz City, Ind., and lived most of her life in Conway, S.C. She had recently made her home in Newnan.
She was preceded in death by her husband, E.P. Sinkler.

Mr. Robert Lee Wilson
Mr. Robert Lee Wilson, 95, of Franklin, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002, at the Franklin Healthcare Center after a brief illness.
Mr. Wilson was born Nov. 25, 1906, in Heard County to the late Robert Lee Wilson Sr. and Lee Ann McSwain Wilson. A graduate of Hogansville High School, he attended Mercer University. Until his retirement, he served as post master in Heard County.
"Mr. Robb" was one of the oldest members of First Baptist Church in Franklin and had in past years been a Sunday school teacher. He was instrumental in the building of Heard County Memorial Hosptial, and after his retirement he turned his energies to the restoration of Bethel Heard Baptist Church. Because of his efforts, this historical church is now being utilized.
Mr. Wilson was a member of the Heard County Lions Club, the Chattahoochee Masonic Lodge 61, and the Heard County Historical Society.
A funeral will be held Saturday, March 2, 2002, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Franklin. The Rev. Don Helms will officiate, and burial will be in the Bethel Heard Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive guests at the funeral home one hour prior to service time.
