Mrs. Margie Jewel Boyd, 59, of Newnan, died April 22, 2002 at Atlanta Medical Center.
She was born in Heard County May 4, 1942. Mrs. Boyd is the daughter of the late Joseph Adams and Lee Parker. Mrs. Boyd worked for Beaulieu Convalescent Center for a short time.
A funeral was held April 25 in the chapel of Jones Funeral Home with the Rev. Clinton Melson officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Elmer Greene, 81, of Senoia, died Sunday, April 28, 2002.
Mr. Green was born Jan. 2, 1921 in Trion to the late Pearson A. and Clara Brown Greene. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and retired from the federal prison system in Atlanta. Mr. Greene was an active member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Senoia.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Paul of Trion, Marvin of Cleveland, Tenn., and Russell of Gaylesville, Ala., and a sister, Catherine, of Trion.
A funeral will be held Tuesday, April 30, 2002, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home. Phil Bevel and Gary Lewis will officiate, and burial will be in the Senoia City Cemetery.

Mr. Tommie Haynes, 75, of Newnan, died Saturday, April 27, 2002, at Newnan Hospital.
Mr. Haynes was born Sept. 28, 1926 in Coweta County to the late Unus Jefferson Haynes and the late Millie Weaver Haynes. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, was a Baptist by faith, and was retired from Boone Gas Company in Newnan.

Mrs. Bridges was born October 15, 1913 in Coweta County, Ga. She was an educator and was retired from the Coweta County Schools and taught for many years at Atkinson Elementary School in Newnan. She was a member of Central Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Clifford C. Elliott Sr. and Lessie V. Elliott, and by her husband G. Harold Bridges.

Mrs. Carolyn Mitchell Ellis, 52, of Newnan, Ga., Died Tuesday, April 23, 2002.
Carolyn Ann "Pumpkin" Mitchell Ellis was born February 27, 1950 in Turin, Ga., Coweta County, to Mrs. Sarah Bell Mitchell (Saddie) and the late Mr. Luther Mitchell. Two grandchildren preceded her in death, Alicia Ellis and Edward Calhoun Jr.
She joined Shiloh Baptist Church at a young age and later became a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Sharpsburg, Ga.

Mr. Gilbert was born January 12, 1922 in Troup County, son of the late William Fletcher Gilbert and the late Margaret Dent Gilbert. A lifelong resident of Troup County, he served in the Pacific Theatre in the U.S. Army during World War Two and was retired from the Unity Division of Milliken and Company and BTF Auto Parts in LaGrange. He was a member of Big Springs United Methodist Church and was a past Worshipful Master of Elm City Masonic Lodge #544 in LaGrange.
Surviving are daughter and son-in-law, Carol and John Carden of Hogansville; two grandsons, Greg Carden of Hogansville and Lance Corporal Jason Carden of Washington, D. She lived in Hogansville most of her life, was a member of Highland Baptist Church, and retired from Uniroyal Inc. after more than 30 years of service. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Surviving are daughter, Mrs. Alma G. Wheelus of Hogansville; step-daughter, Mrs. Barbara P. Smith of Carrollton; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one step-grandchild; two step-great-grandchildren. Mr. Barry David Hopson, 46, of Franklin, Ga., died April 23, 2002 in Winder, Ga.
Mr. Hopson was born in Heard County, Ga. July 31, 1955 to Nick Hopson and Virginia McElvey Hopson. He was a 1973 graduate of Heard County High School, and attended Carroll Technical Institute in the field of welding. After graduating, he later taught at Carroll Tech. He then opened his own business and was a much sought-after welder all over the country. He was an active member of the Franklin United Methodist Church and a much loved member of the community.
A funeral will be Friday, April 26 at 3 p.m. at Franklin United Methodist Church with the Rev. Rick McMahan officiating.

Mrs. Alice Davis Wiggins, 105, of Loganville, formerly of Newnan, Ga., died April 24, 2002 at New London Health Center in Snellville, Ga.
She was born December 24, 1896 in Meriwether County, Ga., daughter of Barien and Lula Davis. Mrs. Wiggins was preceded in death by her husband Joe L. Wiggins and a son, Elmer Wiggins. She was the oldest living member of Unity Baptist Church.

Mrs. Boyd was born in Heard County to Joseph and Bessie Adams in 1942. She grew up in the Newnan area, attending Newnan High School. She worked at Beaulieu Convalescent Center as a nurses aid before her family obligations forced her to spend all of her time at home. She loved her family and always put them first. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, collecting angels, dolls and coins. A devoted Christian, she attended East Newnan Baptist Church.
A son, Eddie Lee Boswell, preceded her in death.
She is survivied by her husband, Hollis Johnny "Hop" Boyd; eight sons, Johnny Boyd and wife Stephanie, David Key and Michael Farmer, all of Newnan, Vernon Boswell and his wife Donna of Griffin, Ga., Ricky Brannon and his wife Phyllis of Gay, Ga., William Boyd of Reidsville, Ga., Bobby Boyd and his wife Jackie of Greenville, Ga. and Merrill Farmer of Hogansville, Ga.; three daughters, Teresa Jarrell and husband Kevin, Cynthia Hernandez and husband Martin, and Monica McFall and husband Eddie, all of Newnan; two brothers, Doyle Adams and Danny Adams, both of Newnan, Ga.; sister, Jane Bailey of Newnan; 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and special friends Elva Brooks, Bob Dilworth and Toni Dilworth.

Mr. Candler "Candy" Wayne Brannon, 54, of Greenville, Ga., formerly of Griffin, Ga., died Sunday, April 21, 2002 in Asheboro, North Carolina, in his sleep of a heart attack while doing what he enjoyed most, camping and the outdoors.
He was born in Henry County, Ga. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul W. and Nell McCracken Brannon and a sister, Barbara Jean Street. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He served in Vietnam, where he was wounded, and for that reason received a purple heart. He was of the Protestant faith.
Surviving are his wife, Cathy Brannon; children, Britt Brannon of McDonough, Wes Brannon of Henry County, and Jacob Brannon of Newnan; sisters, Nelta Brannon Meiller of Senoia, Christal Brannon of Calhoun, DeKalb County; brothers, Paul W. Mr. Allen was born October 24, 1951 in Worthville, Kentucky, son of the late Glenn Orrison Allen and the late Margia Merritt Allen. A former resident of Stockbridge, he had lived in Moreland and Luthersville for the past eight years and was a driver for Waggoner Trucking Company.

Mr. Howard "Black Beauty" Head Sr. was born October 29, 1909 in Jackson, Ga. to the late Mr. and Mrs. Frazier (Carrie Stewart) Head. He was the first born of eight siblings of which five preceded him in death. He relocated to Atlanta in the late 1920s where he was employed by the Central of Georgia Railroad and retired after 40 years of service. He was employed also for several years with the city of Atlanta and the Coca-Cola Bottling Company. He married the late Emma Lee Scott. They had three children, one of whom preceded him in death, the late Mrs. Marion Head Lester.
At the time of his death he was married to Mrs. Maude Reid and step-father to seven children, Mrs. Evelyn Dunn, Mrs. Annie Maude Reid, Ms. Georgia Mae Reid, Mr. Henry Reid, Mr. Willie Reid, Mr. Arthur Reid and Mr. David Reid; two sisters, Ms. Aldren Head and Mrs. Dorothy Head-Thrasher; 22 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Vivian Louise Wood Hunter, 77, of Sid Hunter Road, Coweta County, Ga. died Saturday, April 20, 2002 at her residence.
Mrs. Hunter was born June 13, 1924 in Coweta County to James E. Wood and Viola Iown Webb. She was retired from Southern Bell Telephone and was a member of White Oak ARP Church and volunteered with the Pink Ladies auxiliary of Newnan Hospital.
A funeral will be Tuesday, April 23 at 3 p.m. at Hillcrest Chapel in Newnan. The Rev. Tom Shoger will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan.

Mr. Roger F. McClain, 58, of LaGrange, Ga., died Sunday, April 21, 2002 at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.
A funeral will be 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 23 in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Rev. Leonard Hodge will officiate, and burial will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville.

Mr. McClain was born April 6, 1944 in LaGrange, son of the late Ernest Frank McClain and the late Winnie Buttrum McClain. A lifelong resident of LaGrange, he served as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army and was a driver for City Cab Company in LaGrange.
Surviving are four daughters, Diana McClain and Tonya McClain, both of LaGrange, Theressa Kirby of Roanoke, Ala., and Carla McClain of Montgomery, Ala.; three sons, Frankie McClain of Roanoke, Ala., William McClain and Chris McClain, both of LaGrange; step-daughter, Amanda Creel of Franklin; two sisters, Linda Duke and Carol Estes, both of LaGrange; brother, Bobby McClain of LaGrange; ten grandchildren.

Mr. Terrell was born August 20, 1940 to Mr. John and Ethel Bell White Terrell, who preceded him in death along with his sisters, Mrs. Amerine Johnson and Mrs. Elnora Johnson.
He joined the Heard Wesley United Methodist Church at an early age, and served faithfully until his death. He married Dorothy Arnold August 23, 1963. He had a warm smile and vibrant spirit, and was deeply devoted to his family. He retired from Ralston Purina after 25 years of service.

Mr. Davis was born in Clayton County, Ga. to the late Thomas Davis and Mary Frances Williams Davis. He was a retired Electronic Circuit Tender of the Allied Signal Company. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II, and was a member of the Ash Street Baptist Church in Forest Park, Ga.

He attended the Coweta County Schools, graduating from Central High School. He joined the Mt. Vernon First Baptist Church at an early age.

Miss Rush was born November 22, 1988 in Newnan, Coweta County, Ga. She was in the seventh grade at O. P. Evans Middle School. She attended Community of Faith Outreach Ministries where she enjoyed skating, talking on the phone with friends, and dancing (stepping for Jesus) and she really just enjoyed talking to people. Her grandmother Bernice Keith preceded her in death.

Mrs. Mary Laurene Smith
Mrs. Mary Laurene Smith, 78, of Newnan, Ga., died Wednesday, April 17, 2002 at Beaulieu Convalescent Center in Newnan.
Mrs. Smith was born in Carroll County in 1923 to Robert and Hattie Huggins. She grew up and spent most of her life in the Whitesburg area where she attended school and worked for the Arnco-Sargent Textile Mills. She was a member of the Whitesburg Christian Church for more than 70 years where she worshipped and also taught Sunday school. In her later years, she loved to crochet, play bingo, and grow flowers, especially gladiolas.
Mrs. Smith was married to the late Horace Hinesley, who died in 1964. In 1970, she married Richard L. smith, who also died in 1975.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Janice Duncan and husband Reginald, Mrs. Anis Hendrix and husband Donald, and Mrs. Hazel Tollerson and husband Eugene, all of Newnan; sister, Mrs. Mattie Stevens of Augusta, Ga.; eight grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren; one niece and many friends.

Mrs. Williams was the seventh of fourteen born to the late Jimmie T. Keith and Ophelia Robinson Keith April 5, 1933 in Meiwether County, Ga. She married September 22, 1951 to the late Rev. Willie James Addie. They had one daughter, Patricia. At an early age she joined Saint Peter Baptist Church where she served faithfully until her marriage. She moved her membership to New Macedonia Baptist Church in Riverdale where she worked side by side with her husband who served as pastor. She was a devoted choir member and served faithfully on the Mother's Board.
