Mrs. Sara Virginia Trammell Jarrard of Gainesville died Sunday, April 7, 2002.
Mrs. Jarrard was a native of Coweta County and lived most of her life in Gainesville. The family will receive friends today, April 9, at Memorial Park Funeral Home in Gainesville from 5-8 p.m.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 10, at 11 a.m. at New Holland Baptist Church near Gainesville.

Mr. Read N. Pierce, 78, of Newnan, died Saturday, April 6, 2002 at Atlanta Medical Center.
Mr. Pierce was born September 19, 1923 in Patterson, NJ. He was a retired department store buyer, having worked for Sears, Roebuck and Co. for 35 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and served during World War II in the Pacific.
He was a resident of Decatur, Ga. for 50 years before becoming a resident of Wesley Woods of Newnan. He was a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Inst. and was a past member of St. Thomas More, Decatur, Ga. He was a volunteer eucharistic minister and member of St. Vincent de Paul Society. He was most recently attending St. George Catholic Church in Newnan. He was an active member of the Wesley Woods Friday night Poker Club and Saturday morning Horseshoe Group.
The family was receiving friends Monday, April 8 from 6-9 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home.
A funeral will be at St. George Catholic Church Tuesday, April 9 at 1 p.m. Monsignor Leo Herbert will officiate.

Dr. John G. Wells
Dr. John G. Wells of Newnan died Sunday, April 7, 2002 surrounded by his family.
A funeral will be Wednesday, April 10, at 4 p.m. at Newnan Presbyterian Church with Dr. Harry Barrow officiating. The remains will lie in state at the church from 3:30 p.m. until the funeral hour. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery with military honors.
Dr. Wells graduated from Duke University and The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He interrupted his medical schooling to enlist in the Navy and was awarded the designation of Naval Aviator. After 42 months of active duty, he returned to Johns Hopkins School of Medicine to complete his education. He went on to Barnes Hospital for his internship and Vanderbilt where he was Chief Resident in Medicine.
He moved to Newnan in 1954 to begin his medical practice. He was deeply involved in establishing Coweta County General Hospital in 1962 and served on the Hospital Authority for more than 30 years, part of them as vice-chairman. In 1968, he completed the Internal Medicine Boards and became a diplomat. He was a founding member of the Bank of Coweta and served as a director for many years.
Dr. Wells served as a consultant to the U.S. Rubber Company -- later, Uniroyal -- and instituted a program on asbestosis in one of their asbestos textile mills directed at the recognition of asbestosis in the workers. He was well known throughout the United States for his expertise on asbestosis.
He retired in 1990 after 37 years of practice with many rich memories and wonderful friends. Golf and travel occupied the remainder of his years.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Donnan Wells ; daughters, Sara Jeanne Wells McCook, Mary Stewart Pfeffer and Gay Kuhnert; son, John Wells; and grandchildren John, Sara, Matthew, Garrison, Wells and Caroline.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home.

Mr. Jack D. Williams, 71, of Hogansville, died Monday, April 8, 2002 at Hospice LaGrange.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 10 in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Rev. Harold Willis and Mr. Carter Hudson will officiate, and burial will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville.

Mr. Williams was born November 17, 1930 in Columbus, son of the late Emmett Jefferson Williams and the late Lois Prichett Williams. He lived in Hogansville most of his life, was a former Little League baseball coach, and was a member, deacon and former Sunday School teacher of the First Baptist Church of Hogansville. Mr. Williams retired as a project engineer for the Georgia Department of Transportation after 30 years of service.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Joyce Childers Williams of Hogansville; daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Tony Katter of Waleska; son and daughter-in-law, Dill and Anita Williams of LaGrange; two brothers, James H. Mrs. Hattie Lee McCarty, 52, of Austin Road in Newnan, Ga., died Friday, April 5, 2002, at her residence.

Mr. Edward Sokolsky, 72, of Lakeside Way in Newnan, died Saturday, April 6, 2002, at his residence.
Born March 19, 1930 in Pittsburg, Penn., Mr. Sokolsky was the son of the late Isadore Sokolsky and Eva Siegal Sokolsky. He was the C.E.O. of Electronics Corporations.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Martin-Hightower Hillcrest chapel, with Dr. Miriam Burnett officiating. Burial will be at Beth Abraham Cemetery in Pittsburg, Penn.

Born May 9, 1914, in Heard county, Mrs. Grizzard was the daughter of the late Jim and Mollie Thaxton Hull. She had lived in LaGrange more than seventy years, was a retired private duty nurse, and was a member of Franklin Road Baptist Church. She was the wife of the late Emmett F. Grizzard.
Surviving are daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Virgil Morris of LaGrange; sisters, Eula Marlow of LaGrange and Connie Hull of Atlanta; seven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Henry Douglas Thompson Rowell, 22, of Franklin, Ga., died Thursday, April 4, 2002 at Columbus Regional Medical Center.

Born July 22, 1979, in Newnan, Mr. Rowell was a lifelong resident of Heard County. He was a 1997 honor graduate of Heard County High School and was a senior music education major at Georgia Southwestern State University in Americus. At Georgia Southwestern, he received a music scholarship and the Wheatley Leadership Scholarship, and was a member of the Symphonic Band, the Jazz Band, the University Choir, and Chi Phi Fraternity. Mr. Rowell was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Grantville.
Surviving are his parents, Steve and Sara Story Rowell of Franklin; two brothers, Alexander Rowell and Scottie Rowell, both of Franklin; one sister, Susanna Rowell also of Franklin; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Louise Rowell Addison of Frisco City, Alabama; maternal great-grandmother, Mrs. AnaMaude Levens of Franklin; and his girlfriend, Cheryl Hilton of Americus.

Mr. Shaw was born January 25, 1937 in Summerville, Ga. He was the son of the late Ellis and Hattie Shaw. He worked in equipment maintenance for the Georgia Department of Transportation. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.

Mr. Curtis "Red" Clark, 78, of College Street, Whitesburg, Ga., died Wednesday, April 3, 2002 at his residence.
He was born June 3, 1923 in Carroll County to the late Henry Lewis Clark and Emma Sue Byrd Clark. He founded the Whitesburg Youth Association, the Whitesburg Booster Club, served as mayor of Whitesburg for a number of years, and served as a city councilman for the city of Whitesburg.
He was a lover of sports, he coached recreational ball for 35 years and was a loyal Central Lions Active Fan for many years. He retired from Lockheed-Martin Corporation after 33 years of service as an electrician.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Terry and Tracey Clark; five sisters, Lucille Kelley, Ruby Barnes, Faye Barnes, Lillian Hinesly, and Hattie Smith; six brothers, Homer, Comer, W. L., Burson, Jeff and Ray Clark.
Surviving are his wife, Anita Proctor Clark; two daughters, Sheila Turner and Necia Bailey, both of Mt. Zion; daughter-in-law, Debra Clark of Bremen; 13 grandchildren, Beth Kirby, Terran Clark, Brittney Bailey, T. C. She worked for the department of Social Services and as a school teacher. She was a graduate of Shorter College. She is preceded in death by a sister, Ann N. Herron.

Mr. Raymond L. Johnson, 95, of Grantville, Ga., died Tuesday, April 2, 2002 at Newnan Hospital.
A funeral was conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, April 4 at the graveside in the Grantville Cemetery with the Rev. Darris Baker officiating.
Mr. Johnson was born May 4, 1906, son of the late Jesse Edward Johnson and the late Sally Willingham Johnson. Born in Luthersville, he lived in Grantville, Newnan and Carrollton, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Grantville. He retired from Mansour's Department Store in Newnan after 34 years of service and was a member of the Elks Club.
An Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Johnson served in Italy, France and Germany; and he had a deep love for his World War II comrades. He recorded a journal of his war experiences which was published several years ago in a series of articles in The Times-Herald.
Surviving are nieces and nephews.

Mr. Hubert Davis Lucy, Jr. died at his daughters' home Tuesday, April 2, 2002.
Mr. Lucy was born in Charlottesville, Virginia on September 10, 1916, the only son of Grace Beatrice Smith Lucy and Hubert Davis Lucy. He grew up in Victoria, Virginia where his father was Chief Dispatcher for the Virginian Railroad. Following graduation from Virginia Polytechnic Institute with a Chemical Engineering degree, he was employed by United States Steel Corporation, Tennessee Coal and Iron Division in Birmingham, Alabama, until retirement. Mr. Lucy served as a First Lieutenant in the Anti Artillery Division during World War II, and retired from active Army Reserve duty with the rank of Major. He was a member of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church while in Birmingham, and First Baptist Church in Bremen, Georgia after moving to Georgia.
Mr. Lucy and his wife, Anna Pauline King Lucy, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on February 7, 2002.
Surviving him are his wife; sisters, Anne Purple of Lexington, KY and Virginia Wright of Natick, MA; daughters, Paula Ercolini and Ellen Lucy with whom he lived in Sharpsburg; two grandchildren, Ellen Davis Williams of Atlanta and David Boyd Williams and great-granddaughter Emily Annaleese Williams both of Roswell.

Mr. Colquitt was born February 5, 1927 in Moltrie, Ga., to Fitzgerald Richard Colquitt and Ella Mae Ligon. He was a retired printer for the Atlanta Journal Constitution and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II.

Mr. Fowler was born January 4, 1917 in Eakley, Oklahoma. He was a retired Church of Christ minister and missionary to New England states for 30 years. A veteran of the United States Army, he served in World War II and was in the Medical Corps.

Mrs. Thompson was born January 17, 1934 in Coweta County, Ga. She worked as a seamstress.

Mr. Charles Williams Jr., 49, of Newnan, died March 30, 2002.
Mr. Williams was born May 23, 1952 in Newnan, son of the late Mr. Willie Henry Williams and Mrs. Annie Belle Williams.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Mr. Willie Earvin Williams and Mr. Robert Lewis Williams, and a sister, Mrs. Erma Gooden.
He joined the New Macedonia Baptist Church in Newnan at an early age. Later he joined the Greater Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church on Richard Allen Drive in Newnan.
A funeral will be Wednesday, April 3 at 2 p.m. at Greater Mt. Zion A.M.E. CHurch. Rev. Jarvis Childs will officiate, assisted by other ministers. Burial will be in Ebenezer Baptist Church cemetery. Pallbearers will be nephews and friends.

Rev. Milton B. Winslett, 74, of Heritage Drive, Newnan, Ga., died March 30, 2002 at Southwest Christian Hospice.
Rev. Winslett was born November 17, 1927, to the late Arnold J. Winslett and the late Eula Hurley Winslett. He was pastor of the Vistory Tabernacle Church of Newnan.

Mr. Charlie Alford Jr., 70, of Senoia, died March 23, 2002 at Newnan Hospital.
He was born March 5, 1932 to the late Charlie and Essie Alford. He joined Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church at an early age. He was employed with General Pipeline for many years, and retired from the company. He had four sons who preceded him in death, Willie Alford, Charles Bell, Ricky Mack and Bobby Bell.
A funeral was March 30 at 2:30 p.m. at Piney Grove Baptist Church in Haralson. The Rev. Willie Godfrey officiated, assisted by Minister Alvin Godfrey and Pastor W. F. Slaton. Burial was in the church cemetery. Nephews and friends served as pallbearers.

Mr. Billy Frank Elkins, 74, of Forest Park, Georgia, formerly of Grantville, Ga., died Saturday, March 30, 2002 after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Mr. Elkins served in the United States Army and the United States Air Force during World War II. He was retired from the Army and Air Force Exchange Services at Fort Gilem in September 1992. He was raised a Methodist and grew up attending the public schools in Grantville, Ga. His wife Margaret said that he loved people and was always helping others. Everyone who knew him loved him.

Mr. Benjamin Ellington, 68, of Newnan died Wednesday, March 27, 2002, at Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta.
Mr. Ellington was born March 25, 1934, in Crawfordville to the late Mr. and Mrs. Harry Ellington, Sr. He moved to the Decatur area and identified with the Mount Olive Baptist Church.

Mr. Gilbert was born May 16, 1949, in Coweta County. He was a truck driver for AAA Cooper Transportation, and served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam.

Deacon Wilkins K. Rosser
Deacon Wilkins K. Rosser, 70, of Luthersville died Friday, March 29, 2002 at his home.
Deacon Rosser, who was known as Big Daddy, was born May 16, 1931 to the late Rozzie and Mattie Rosser. He joined the Zion Hill Baptist Church at an early age, and was an active member of the Zion Hill Deacon Board until his health began to fail him. Along with the Rev. Willie J. Johnson, he helped to organized the Zion Hill Male Chorus. After the death of his brother, Robert Lee Rosser, he took on the role of manager of the chorus. The group traveled and was well known in many different states. Deacon Rosser loved singing God's praises.
He Rosser was the fifth of seven children, and was preceded in death by four of his siblings. He married the former Olevia Owens on Sept. 7, 1952. They had seven children, two of which, Donald and Rachel Elaine, preceded him in death.
A home going service will be held Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at 2:30 p.m. at Zion Hill Baptist Church in Luthersville. The Rev. D.D. Driver will officiate, assisted by the Revs. M. Blount, L. Jackson, and W.J. Johnson. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Nephews and friends will serve as pallbearers, and nieces will serve as flower bearers. The Zion Hill Male Chorus will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Mr. Joseph Christopher Thomas, 33, of LaGrange, died Saturday, March 30, 2002, at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.
Mr. Thomas was born June 13, 1968, in LaGrange. A resident of Troup County most of his life, he lived in Maquoketa, Iowa for three years before returning to LaGrange four months ago. A graduate of Troup High School, he attended Troup Tech and was an auto body repair technician. He attended Springhill Baptist Church in Troup County.
