Mr. James W. Arnall Jr.
Mr. James W. Arnall Jr., 76, of St. Simons Island, Georgia, died June 26, 2002, following a lengthy illness.
Mr. James Wiley Arnall Jr. was born March 2, 1926, in Senoia, Ga. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1944 to 1946 and participated in the Battle of Iwo Jima.
He graduated from the University of Georgia in 1948 in journalism. He worked for the Associated Press for a number of years and then for Mercer University as director of public relations. He returned to Senoia in 1982 and was the editor of the Hartsfield Airport Newspaper until his retirement.
Mr. Arnall was a member of the St. Simons Baptist Church.
A funeral will be held at graveside Saturday, June 29, at 2 p.m. in Senoia City Cemetery. Dr. Watson Mills will officiate.

Mrs. Evelyn Bartley Arnold, 95, of Hogansville, Ga., died Thursday, June 27, 2002 at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange, Ga.
A funeral will be 4:30 p.m. Sunday, June 30 at First United Methodist Church of Hogansville. The Rev. Ken Kulp, the Rev. Helen Henry and the Rev. Marion Shivers will officiate. Burial will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Saturday.
Born Sept. 28, 1906 in Troup County, Mrs. Arnold was a daughter of the late James Simpson Bartley and the late Lizzie Johnson Bartley. She had lived in Hogansville since 1943, was retired from The Citizens Bank of Hogansville and was a former member of the Green Bough Garden Club and the Hogansville Pilot Club. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hogansville, where she had been a member of the choir and had been active in the United Methodist Women. She was the wife of the late William P. Arnold Jr.
Surviving are son, William P. Arnold III of Hogansville; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Emma-Kate Moses Fisher, 89, formerly of Newnan, Ga., died Tuesday, June 25, 2002 in Detroit, Michigan. She was the widow of Luther Fisher. She lived in Newnan for 30 years.
The remains were being cremated.
Surviving is her one remaining sibling, Ethel Moses Thurman.

Mr. Radford E. Jackson, 83, died June 26, 2002 at Christian City Convalescent Center following an extended illness.
He was born in Campbell County, Ga. and was son of the late Lonnie P. and Blanche Thrower Jackson. A veteran of World War II, he served in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant. His tour of duty included much of France and Italy. Mr. Jackson's professional life was as a sales agent for Gulf Life Insurance.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Shirley Anne Taylor Jackson; daughters, Annette Baxter of Conyers and Susan Brantley of Douglasville; a son, Barry Jackson of Newnan; brother, Harvey Jackson of Alpharetta, Ga.; and sister, Edna Couch of Grantville; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be Friday, June 28 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home with Dr. Gene Tyre officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Mr. Jonathon David Davis, 32, died Saturday, June 22, 2002 at Newnan Hospital.

Mr. Davis was the first born son of Roscoe and Joyce Davis, and was born in Wichita Falls, Texas December 28, 1969.
At an early age he joined Wheatley Heights Baptist Church in San Antonio, Texas. He graduated from Sam Houston High School in 1989 in San Antonio, Texas. He was employed with Johnson Tool and Die Company in Newnan, Ga.

Mrs. Paula Terrell Stanley, 88, of Macon, Ga., died Tuesday, June 25, 2002 at Peake Healthcare Center in Macon, Ga.
A funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday, June 30 at the Greenville Baptist Church. The Rev. Jonathan Porter will officiate, and burial will be in Greenville Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:30-2:30 Sunday afternoon.
Mrs. Stanley was born April 12, 1914 in Greenville, Ga., daughter of the late Judge J. Render Terrell and the late Mamie Harrison Terrell. She attended Brenau College in Gainesville, Ga. and was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. She was the wife of the late Cash M. Stanley Jr., a retired textile executive, and lived in Montgomery, Ala., Sylacauga, Ala., Danville, Va. and Mary Esther, Fla. before making her home in Macon in 1993. Over the years she was an active volunteer for the Episcopal Church, the Republican Women and the Salvation Army.
Mrs. Stanley was a sister of the late Joel Hood Terrell and the late James Render Terrell Jr., who were both former members of the Georgia State Legislature. She was a niece of the late Joseph Meriwether Terrell, who was a former Georgia Legislator, Georgia Attorney General, Georgia Governor and United States Senator.
Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law, Cash M. Stanley III, MD, Terrell and Joy Stanley, all of Macon, and David and Ceceila Stanley of Marietta; two sisters, Miss Hope Terrell of Greenville and Mrs. Jessie Terrell Doughtie of Columbus, Ga.; five grandchildren, Ren Stanley, Katie Stanley, Will Stanley, Christopher Miller and Jonathan Miller.

Mr. John Worthly Valentine Jr., 78, of Luthersville, Ga., died June 26, 2002 after a brief illness.
The youngest of eight children, he was born in Richmond, Virginia, and grew up in Raleigh, North Carolina. He served in the United States Army in Europe during World War II. Upon returning home after the war, he settled in Atlanta and married Rose Elizabeth Merck. He started his own business, Valentine Heating and Air Conditioning, in Fairburn, Ga. in the late 1940s and operated it for nearly 40 years.
In 1971 he and his wife move to Luthersville where he enjoyed farming and gardening. He served several times on the Luthersville City Council. A member of the Luthersville United Methodist Church, he was a church trustee and a former chairman of the Administrative Council and the Finance Council. He was also very active in the Methodist Men's Club.
Surviving are his wife, Rose Elizabeth; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Rebecca Valentine of Decatur, Ga.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia and Danny Hancock of Tyrone, Ga., and Sheila and Terry Williams of Spartanburg, South Carolina; five grandchldren, Amy and Daniel Thompson, Brian, Jeff and Katie Williams; sister, Marjorie Trentham of Houston, Texas.

Mr. Ansel Chapman Sr., 72, of Franklin, Ga., died Monday, June 24, 2002 at Newnan Hospital in Newnan, Ga.
Mr. Chapman was born in Anderson, South Carolina June 17, 1930 to the late Edward George Chapman and Anie Stancil Chapman. He was retired from the General Motors Company and a Baptist by faith. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Chapman never met a stranger and had a great love for people.
A funeral will be Thursday, June 27 at 11 a.m. at Tom Stutts and Son Funeral Home Chapel in Franklin. The Revs. Cecil Davis and Terry Chapman will officiate. Burial will be in Restlawn Memory Gardens in LaGrange, Ga. The family was receiving guests Tuesday night at the funeral home and will do so again Wednesday night starting at 6 p.m.

Mrs. Holder was born in Carroll County June 11, 1916 to the late Henry James Milam and the late Jennie Lou Lovelady Kilgore. Mrs. Holder was retired from Spalding Knitting Mills. She was an active member of the Griffin First Baptist Church before moving to Whitesburg nine years ago, where she was a member of the Bethany Christian Church.

Mrs. Morris White Lucear of Atlanta died Tuesday, June 18, 2002.
She was born December 17, 1935 in Coweta County, Newnan, Ga. She was the first born of eight children to the late Elbonie "Big Baby" and Curtis White. A sister, Annie Mae, and a brother, Little "Willie" preceded her in death. She lived in Coweta County most of her life. She moved to Atlanta and reared her family. She joined the Powell Chapel United Methodist Church and was not able to attend regularly due to her illness.
A funeral was Monday, June 24 at 2 p.m. at Powell Chapel United Methodist Church in Newnan. Rev. R. W. Sutton officiated, assisted by Rev. Havis Johnson, Rev. Felton James and other ministers. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Thomas A. Rainwater Sr., 69, of Palmetto, Ga., died Sunday, June 23, 2002 at Newnan Hospital following an extended illness.
Mr. Rainwater was born in Atlanta, Ga. in 1932 to Thomas and Mozelle Rainwater and grew up in the College Park area. He was an auto mechanic by trade and began working on cars when he was eight years old. Known to his many friends as Tommy, he filled his leisure time raising dogs and fishing, both salt water and fresh water. Although not a member of a church, he received Christ as his Savior and was baptized at Flat Rock Baptist Church in Riverdale, Ga. many years ago.
Surviving are his wife of 12 years, Nancy Rainwater of Palmetto, Ga.; son, Thomas A. Rainwater Jr. of Douglasville; five daughters, Theresa Shelnutt of Sharpsburg, Carol Shelnutt of Palmetto, Cynthia Tims of Atlanta, Beverly Smith of Newnan and Bonita Jacobs of Moreland; mother, Mozelle Rainwater; three brothers, Joe, David and Walter Rainwater; four sisters, Joyce, Dorothy, Jackie and Linda; 12 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, many friends.

Mrs. Putman was born June 12, 1912, in Coweta County to the late Joe Wesley Turner and Willie Irene Stubbs Turner. She was a retired textile worker at Southern Mills, and a member of Beulah Baptist Church on Turkey Creek Road. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Putman, and a great grandchild.

Mr. Crofford Thomas Smith Jr. of Lora Smith Road died Tuesday, June 18, 2002 from the Portsbridge Hospice in Riverdale, Ga.
A celebrating the life of Mr. Smith service will be held Monday, June 24, 2002, at 1 p.m. at the Ebenezer Baptist Church on Hwy. 154, with Reverend Collier Starks, Reverend Rufus Smith, Reverend Coleman Hayes and Reverend G.B. Vaughn officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The body will lie in state at the church from 11:30 a.m. until the hour of the service. The cortege will assemble at the residence at noon. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Mr. Smith was born July 18, 1952, to Crofford Sr. and Pollie Florence Smith. He was the first of three children. He joined Ebenezer Baptist Church at an early age under Reverend J.S. Hammond. He graduated from Newnan High School and was the first African-American to be selected as captain of the varsity basketball team. To further his education, Mr. Smith graduated from Fort Valley State College. He had a great love for spiritual work and sports.
He moved to Atlanta and was married to Janice Marshall and had a daughter. While residing in Atlanta, he united with the First Apostolic Church under the pastorship of Reverend J.D. Guthrie.
Survivors include his wife, Janice; a daughter, N'Dia R. Smith; his mother and father; a sister, Annette S. Johnson; a brother, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Smith; a grandmother in-law, Mrs. Mary Hargrove; a sister in-law, Juanda Jerman; and many uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Seaman Anthony "Tony" Stewart, 22, of Newnan, Ga. died Thursday, June 13, 2002 on Columbia River Highway.
He was born in Montgomery, Alabama, June 1, 1980. He was a U.S. Coast Guard seaman.
The famiy was receiving friends at McKoon Funeral Home Wednesday, June 19, from 6-8 p.m.
A funeral was at McKoon Funeral Home Thursday, June 20 at 2 p.m. A Coast Guard chaplain was officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Don J. Wheeler, 41, of Hogansville, Ga., died Tuesday, June 18, 2002 at his home.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, June 23 in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville, with the Rev. Sarah Parker officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1-2 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
Mr. Wheeler was born August 18, 1960 in South Haven, Michigan, and lived in Michigan before making his home in Hogansville in 1994.
Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Dorothy Krziske Wheeler of Hogansville; sister, Mrs. Gina Dorrough, also of Hogansville; three brothers, George A. Wheeler Jr. of Germany, David Wheeler of Glendale, Michigan and Geoffrey Wheeler of Hogansville; aunt and uncles, Mrs. Margaret Staniszewski of LaGrange, Michael Krziske of Manchester, Missouri and Fred Krziske of Grand Junction, Michigan; several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Patricia Ann Wolczek
Mrs. Patricia Ann Wolczek, 56, of Newnan, Ga., formerly of Bradenton, Florida, died Wednesday, June 19, 2002 at Newnan Hospital after a three-year up and down battle with cancer.
Mrs. Wolczek was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut to Robert and Gloria Jordan where she grew up and attended the local schools, including the University of Bridgeport. She began her career as a real estate broker, but decided to become a full-time mom, raising and caring for a husband and seven children. Her husband's job kept them on the move, from the east coast to the west coast. In 1987 they moved to and called Bradenton, Florida, home where Mrs. Wolczek was extremely active at Peridia Country Club. She was on the social committee and the decorating committee. She loved golf, tennis, bowling, arts and crafts, and was especially talented making things with her hands. She was indeed "the woman that never stopped." Mrs. Wolczek moved with her family to Newnan several years ago and attended St. George Catholic Church, as her health allowed.
Surviving are her husband of 30 years, Mr. Vincent Wolczek; her mother, Mrs. Gloria Jordan; and a sister, Mrs. Gloria Grant, all of Newnan; three sons, John Wolczek of Seymour, Conn., Vincent Wolczek of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Raymond Wolczek of Ansonia, Conn.; four daughters, Bonnie Seymour of Alexandria, LA, Debbie Thompson of Fairburn, Ga., Lisa Peace of Fairburn, Ga., and Cynthia Wolczek of Newnan, Ga.; three brothers, Jimmy Jordan of Marietta, Ga., Douglas Jordan of Peachtree City, Ga. and Robert Jordan of New Haven Conn.; 21 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends at Jones Funeral Home 6-8 p.m. Friday evening, June 21. A funeral wake will be conducted at 7 p.m.
A funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 22 at St. George Catholic Church with the Father Stephen Lyness officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Newnan.

Mrs. Beverly Jean Anderson Auman, 52, of Thomaston, died Wednesday, June 19, 2002 at Upson Regional Medical Center in Thomaston.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday, June 22 at graveside in Forest Lawn Memorial Park inNewnan.
Mrs. Auman was born July 23, 1949 in Statesboro, Ga., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Anderson. She had made her home in Thomaston for the past four years and attended New Hope Baptist Church in Thomaston.
Surviving are two daughters, Annette Auman of Grantville and Trisha Auman of Newnan; mother, Annette Anderson of Camden, S.C.; sister, Joann Sexton of Fayetteville, N.C.; two brothers, Henry Anderson of Georgia and Earl Anderson of North Carolina; several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Charlie Walker Cook
Mr. Charlie Walker Cook, 86, of Newnan, died June 16, 2002 at Starcrest of Newnan.
He was born in Coweta County October 17, 1915. He worked at the Bibb Company for 30 years, in addition to successfully operating his own store business since 1948. He was a veteran of World War II. He enjoyed farming as a hobby, and his love for baseball was second to none.
A funeral will be Saturday, June 22, at 1 p.m. at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. The Rev. J. C. Neal will officiate. Pallbearers will be Inman Beadles, Butch Clark, Alphonso Smith, Richard Wilcoxson, Melvin Huling and Henson Stegall.
Surviving are wife, Gladys Cook of Newnan; step-daughter, Gywnell McCrary of Newnan; two grandchildren; one sister, Jennie C. Cook of Newnan; many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Edna Mae Hixson Malcolm
Mrs. Edna Mae Hixson Malcolm, 84, of Newnan died June 13, 2002.
A funeral was June 16, 2002 at 3 p.m. at Mt. Prospect Baptist Church in Moreland. The Rev. McArthur Blount officiated, assisted by Rev. Allan Darden and other ministers. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were nephews and friends.
Mrs. Malcolm was born November 19, 1917, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Tommy (Viola) Hisxon. She married December 26, 1933 to Rev. Edward Malcolm, who preceded her in death. They had three children. Two sons, Mr. John Edward Malcolm and Mr. Carl Stanley Malcolm preceded her in death.
At an early age she joined Mount Prospect Baptist Church where she served faithfully until her health declined. She served in the adult choir, as secretary of the Sunday school and president of the Mission.
Surviving are daughter, Mrs. Janie Malcolm Rhodes; daughter-in-law, Mrs. Allene Wood Malcolm; five grandchildren, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford (Bonita) Culpepper, Mr. Roderick Malcolm, Mr. and Mrs. Carmen (Danita) Malcolm, Mr. Darnell Rhodes, Mr. and Mrs. Andre (Tracy) Malcolm; 12 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Mary P. Malcolm; brother-in-law, John Malcolm Sr.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Willie Lee Phillips died Sunday, June 16, 2002 at Emory Peachtree Regional Hospital.
A funeral will be Thursday, June 20, 2002 at 2 p.m. at Sellers-Smith R. W. S. Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Frank Knight officiating, assisted by the Rev. White, Prince Jasper Gibbs. Burial in the Eastview Cemetery. On the day of the service the cortege will assemble at the residence at 1 p.m.
Mrs. Phillips was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. D. Ector of Grantville, Ga. At an early age she moved with her extended family to 25 Birch Avenue, Newnan, Ga. and attended Pinson Street Elementary School. She was a fun and outgoing person. She joined Mount Vernon church and served family, friends and community.
As a young lady she moved to Auburn Avenue in Atlanta, Ga. in the early 1960s. During this period she married Joe Phillips and they moved to Cleveland, Ohio. She remained in Cleveland, serving faithfully at church until her health failed. She came to live in Newnan with close relatives Bishop and Mrs. James R. Keith in December 2001. She attended Triumph Holiness Church until she became ill. Her devoted family and friends remember her greatest asset to be her persistence and perseverance.
Surviving are son, James Osman; granddaughter, Seleema Osman; and one great-granddaughter; loving and devoted families, Bishop James (Mildred) Keith and family, Evangelist Mary R. Herring (family), Ms. Juanita Shepard (family) and Ms. Virginia King (family), Ms. Arnita Smith of Cleveland, Ohio and a host of endeared friends.

Mr. William Richard Cartwright, 50, of Andrew Bailey Road, Sharpsburg, Ga., died Thursday, June 13, 2002 at Newnan Hospital.
Mr. Cartwright was born March 24, 1952 in Columbus, Ga. He worked with Start-up Certification for Central Plants.

A funeral was at McKoon's chapel Monday, June 17 at 2 p.m. Dr. Tim Driggers officiated. Burial was in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Mrs. Mildred Lee Childs, 86, of William Circle, Sharpsburg, Ga., died Monday, June 17, 2002.
She was born November 28, 1915 in Jackson County, Ga. to Milton Tucker and Leo Jackson Tucker. She was a homemaker, was a member of Tri-County Baptist Church and was active in the Senior Center in Newnan.
A funeral will be Wednesday, June 19 at 11 a.m. at Hillcrest Chapel in Newnan with the Rev. Ron Whitlock officiating. Burial will be in Jackson Memorial Cemetery in Commerce, Ga. at 3 p.m.

Mrs. Audrey Faye Satterwhite
Mrs. Audrey Faye Satterwhite, 49, of Second Avenue, Newnan, died Friday, June 14, 2002 following a courageous battle against cancer.
A funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday, June 20 at Saint John AME Church, 305 West Campbellton Street in Fairburn with Rev. Keith D. D. Lawrence, pastor, officiating. The body will lie in state at the church from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service. On the day of the service the cortege will assemble at the residence at 10 a.m.
Mrs. Satterwhite was born July 14, 1952 in Marshall, Texas. Her family moved to Saginaw Michigan and eventually to Chicago, Illinois, where she was raised. She attended Catholic parochial schools in Chicago and graduated from Providence St. Mell School in 1970.
She moved to the Atlanta area around 1972 and met her future husband, Anthony Satterwhite, the following year. Audrey and Anthony were married July 13, 1979. They settled down in Newnan where they raised their three children, Antoinette, Audra and Maurice.
Mrs. Satterwhite was a member of St. John AME Church in Fairburn, Ga. Those who knew her also knew she had a strong relationship with Christ. She immersed herself in his Word and surrounded herself with other believers.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Herman K. Raines Jr.
Surviving are her husband and children as well as her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herman K. Raines Sr. of Chicago, Illinois; sister, Johnica Raines of Chicago, Illinois; brothers, Ray Anthony and Leah Raines of Conley, Ga., Rev. Aurelius and Charlene Raines of Chicago, Illinois, Cornelius J. and Denise Raines of Houston, Texas, Adrian and Dierdra Raines of Fayetteville, and James Raines of Pembroke Pines, Fla.
