Mrs. Mildred Parks Amey
Mrs. Mildred Parks Amey of Hill Street, Newnan, died Sunday, August 25, 2002 at her residence.

A funeral will be Saturday, Aug. 31, at 1 p.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church on Todd Road in Greenville, Ga. with Rev. E. J. O'Neal, pastor, as eulogist. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Her remains will lie in state in the church from 11:30 a.m. until the hour of the service. Pallbearers will be nephews. Flower ladies will be nieces. The family was receiving friends at the funeral home Friday from 6-8 p.m. On the day of the service the cortege will assemble at the funeral home at 11:45 a.m.

Mrs. Amey was born May 12, 1936 to the late Mr. Virgil Parks and Mrs. Lena Mae Parks in Meriwether County, Ga.

She joined Fellowship Baptist Church at an early age. She was a very loving mother and caring grandmother, who was always there for family and anyone else who may have called upon her for help. Her favorite saying was, "I want to die easy when I die and shout salvation as I fly." She was preceded in death by two special brothers, Mr. Leon Parks and Mr. Roscoe Parks.

Surviving are her husband, Willie Amey Sr.; children, Mattie Jean Reeves of Newnan, Mr. and Mrs. Willie Amey Jr. (Sandra), College Park, Ga., Shirley Denise Amey, Newnan, Rickey Amey, Newnan, Mr. and Mrs. James Darrin Amey (Angela); 21 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; brothers, Mr. William Parks, Greenville, Ga., Mr. and Mrs. James Parks (Marydell), Atlanta, Ga., Mr. Virgil Parks, Union City, Ga.; sisters, Mrs. Joann Shelfton, Union City, Ga., Ms. Sandy Parks, Union City, Ga., Mrs. Lena Pearl Boyd, College Park, Ga., Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Peek (Evon) Atlanta, Ga.; aunts, Mrs. Rachel Partridge, Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Norwood (Carrie), Mrs. Melissa Parks; brothers-in-law, Mr. James Amey, Mr. Thomas Amey; sisters-in-law, Ms. Margie Atkinson, Deacon and Mrs. C. Mrs. Aleen Hunnicutt of Palmetto, Ga., died August 29, 2002.

A funeral will be Saturday, Aug. 31 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Parrott Funeral Home. The Rev. Ron Allen and Rev. William O. "Bill" Priester will officiate. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park.

Mr. Joe Paul Myers, 69, of Newnan, died August 29, 2002 at Emory Peachtree Regional Hospital in Newnan.

Mr. Myers was born December 23, 1932 in DeKalb County, Ga. to Harold and Mildred Louise Myers. He worked for more than 37 years and retired from City of Atlanta, Parks and Grounds and was a member of Community Baptist Church. He was loved by all.

A funeral will be in the chapel of Higgins at Hillcrest Chapel Funeral Home Sunday, Sept. 1 at 4 p.m. with Dr. E. C. Chatham and Rev. Glenn Coleman officiating. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park.

Surviving are his wife, Geneva Gray Myers; sons, Ricky Joe (Deloris) Myers of McDonough, Perry Randall (Elsbeth) Myers, Germany, and Danny Ray (Marsha) Myers, Locust Grove; daughters, Debbie Louise Jones, Kentucky, Brenda Gail Myers, California, Diane (Gordon) Corley, Newnan; 11 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Genevieve E. Rakstis, 83, of Newnan, Ga., died Friday, August 30, 2002 at Southwest Christian Hospice.

Mrs. Rakstis was born June 4, 1919 in Detroit, MI. She worked as a certified public accountant.

Surviving are daughters, Trudy and Tom Barber, Newnan, Ga., Bonnie Kowalec of Waterford, MI, Sally and David Richardson of Port Washington, WI; son, Richard O'Brian of Evart, MI; sister, Betty Lou Hendricks of Ft. Myers, FL; 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Jeanette M. Dunaway, 76, of Myrtle Drive, Atlanta, died August 27, 2002 at South Fulton Medical Center.

She was born July 18, 1926, in Randolph County, Alabama to Robert and Exa (Jones) Moore. She was a homemaker and was a member of First Baptist Church of Newnan.

A funeral will be at graveside in Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan Thursday, August 29, 2002. The Rev. Raymond Dunn will officiate.

Nieces and nephews survive her.

Visitation was Wednesday, August 28, from 7-9 p.m.

Mrs. Martha Alice Crawford, 76, of Grantville, Ga., formerly of Newnan, died at her residence Monday, August 26, 2002.

Mrs. Crawford was born in Newnan in 1926 to James and Maude Hemrick and attended the Temple Avenue Grammar School. She was married to the late Mr. Escar Crawford for 16 years at his death. Known as Alice to all of her friends, Mrs. Crawford retired from the James River Textile Company in 1986. After retirement, she enjoyed her family and being a member of Westside Baptist Church.

Mrs. Crawford is survived by two sons, James A. Loftin and his wife Margie of Franklin, and Mark H. Dewberry and his wife Mary Lou of Newnan; two daughters, Lynn D. McCarty of Grantville and Cynthia D. Stephens of Arnco; sister, Ruby Horton of Birmingham, Ala; eleven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and many friends.

Serving as pallbearers will be Joey Stephens, Joe Woodell, Mark Alvarado, Alan McCarty and Jason Dewberry.

The family will receive friends at Jones Funeral Home 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28.

A funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29 with Pastor Melvin L. Payne officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan.

Mrs. Mamie Lou Harden, 82, of Moreland, Ga., died Monday, August 26, 2002 at Austell Healthcare with her children at her side.

She was born January 22, 1920 in Heard County, Ga. She was a textile worker and member of Happy Valley Church.

The family will receive friends at McKoon Funeral Home Wednesday, Aug. 28 from 6-8 p.m.

A funeral will be in McKoon chapel Thursday, Aug. 29 at 11 a.m. The Rev. David Arrington will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Surviving are daughters, Christine Nichols of Five Points, Ala., Linda Noojin of Sargent, Ga., Alice Robertson of Sharpsburg, Ga., Jo Sparks of Moreland and Jeanett Thompson of Marietta, Ga.; four sisters, two brothers and the father of her children, John Carroll of Austell; 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Roger Carroll in 1998.

Mr. James "Buster" Sewell, 87, of Grantville, died Sunday, August 25, 2002 at Beaulieu Convalescent Center in Newnan.

Mr. Sewell was born July 3, 1915 in Coweta County, Ga. He worked in the manufacturing of mops and was co-owner of S&W Mop Company of Grantville for more than 30 years along with Leonard Wilson. He was a member of Grantville United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army and served in World War II.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Sewell and Alice Gibson Sewell; and wife, Emma Hazel Sewell.

The family was receiving friends Tuesday, Aug. 27 from 6-8 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home.

A funeral is Wednesday, Aug. 28 t 11 a.m. at McKoon chapel with Rev. Darris Baker and Rev. Ellis Freeman officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park on Roscoe Road, Newnan.

Surviving are daughter, Alice and Hartley Bonner of Grantville, Ga.; step-son, James and Suzanne Gillespie of Dunwoody, Ga.; granddaughters, Sarah Bonner and Jennifer and Ron Daniel; grandson, Jay Gillespie.

Mrs. Mary Barrow, 82, of Newnan, died Sunday, August 25, 2002 at Emory Peachtree Regional Hospital.

She was born December 25, 1919 in Primrose, Ga. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Barrow and parents Homer and Ada Woodruff.

The family was receiving friends at McKoon Funeral Home Monday, Aug. 26 from 7-9 p.m.

A funeral will be Tuesday, Aug. 27 beginning at 11 a.m. The Rev. Frank Powers will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Horace "Dusty" Johnson
Mr. Horace "Dusty" Johnson, 59, of Newnan, Ga., died August 22, 2002.

He was born September 26, 1942 in Coweta County, son of the late Mr. Willie M. Johnson and Mrs. Ella L. Grier Johnson. He came from a family of ten children, six preceded him in death.

At an early age he joined the Burns United Methodist Church. For many years he was employed by the Newnan Housing Authority, until his health failed. He was a very dedicated worker, loving every minute of it. No job was too hard for him, he could do some of everything.

He was married to the late Mrs. Georgia Mae Marsh Johnson.

A funeral will be Wednesday, Aug. 28, at 2 p.m. at Burns United Methodist Church with Rev. H. H. Dyer, eulogist, assisted by Rev. Gregory Williams and Evangelist Susie Hudson. Burial will be in Eastview Cemetery. Pallbearers will be employees of the Newnan Housing Authority, members of the Zodiac Men's Club of Newnan, and nephews.

Surviving are devoted companion Shirley Ann Gates; sister, Virginia L. Johnson; brothers, Alfred and Johnny Johnson; step-children, Willie Marsh, Allen Teagle and Jennifer Dukes; grandchildren, Allen D. Mrs. Sharon Jones, 72, of El Dorado, AR, died Saturday, August 24, 2002 at Beverly Health Care.

Mrs. Jones was born October 17, 1929 in Wesson, Arkansas, to Daniel Love and Ethel Davis Love. She was the former owner/operator for J-Stop and also worked as a bookkeeper for RSVP and Dixie Maintenance. She was a member of Parker's Chapel United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Earl "Jimmie" Jones; father, Daniel Love; mother, Ethel Love; brother, Daniel Lafayette Love Jr.; sisters, Billie Marie Love and Dorcas "Dottie" Fowler; grandsons, George McGaugh Jr. and Skip Moore.

A funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, at graveside in the Old Parkers Chapel Cemetery, Union County. Rev. Michael Gordon is officiating. Visitation was 6-8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26, at the funeral home in El Dorado, AR.

A funeral was Saturday, Aug. 24 at 1 p.m. at First Christian Church of Fairburn, Ga. Minister Keith Davenport and Minister Wade Hall officiated, burial was in College Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Soper was born December 5, 1920 in Salem, MA. She was an accountant with Delta Airlines.

A funeral will be at graveside in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Tuesday, Aug. 27 at 4 p.m. Father Stephen Lyness will officiate.

Funeral Services for Mr. Joseph Patrick Carrig will be held Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2002, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Cemetery in Trenton, N.J. Mr. Carrig was a retired special agent with the FBI.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret Carrig, and son, Michael Carrig, of Fayetteville.

Mrs. Ruth Ann Fey, 67, of Newnan, died Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002, at Emory University Hospital. Mrs. Fay was born Jan. 3, 1935, in Holowel, Kan. to the late James and Olive Laizure. She was a homemaker and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, where she had served as past matron and past Grand Page. Mrs. Fey was also an active member of the Golden Agers at Unity Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Donald, Bill, and Frank Laizure.

A funeral will be held Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2002, at 1 p.m. at Unity Baptist Church. Danny Wilson will officiate.

The family will receive visitors at McKoon Funeral Home on Monday, Aug. 26 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Mr. Horace Benjamin Geter Sr., 62, of Geter Street, Newnan, died Wednesday, August 21, 2002 at Hospice LaGrange.

A funeral will be Saturday, Aug. 24 at 2 p.m. at Bethel Heard Baptist Church in Franklin, Ga. Rev. Clinton Melson, pastor, will officiate, assisted by Rev. Rufus Smith Sr., Rev. Joe Parks Geter, Rev. Willie L. Geter and Rev. J. L. Hendricks. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be nephews, flower ladies will be nieces.

Mr. Geter was born July 7, 1940 in Coweta County, Ga. to the late Deacon and Sister Willie Ben and Ora Lee Geter. He joined Little Macedonia Baptist Church at an early age. He later joined the Bethel Heard Baptist Church where he attended faithfully until his illness. He attended the Coweta County Schools, and later he moved to New Jersey and then to Florida. In 1964 he married Ms. Earlie Dunham and they had two children. He subsequently returned to Newnan and worked many years as a painter in the area. He was preceded in death by a sister, Minnie; and four brothers, Willie Frank, Charlie, James and Joe Melvin.

Surviving are four children, Horace Jr. (Serena) of Newnan, Jacqueline (Stanley) of Deactur, Randy of Newnan, and Kenneth (Ella Pearl) of Newnan; eleven grandchildren, Ebony, Katie, Shyana, Alicia, Rashonda, Keeyonna, Tecyonna, Sharanda, Lacola, Nikkia and Alston; and three great-grandchildren; brothers, Leroy (Lillie Mae) Geter of Newnan; John Geter of Dayton, Ohio, Lewis (Sharon) Geter of Columbus, Ohio; sisters, Sarah (Clinton) Melson, Alma (Leon) Wood, both of Newnan; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Charlie Rose Geter, Mrs. Diane Geter of Newnan, Mrs. Helen Martin of Miami, Florida; aunts, Mrs. Eunice Geter of Newnan, Mrs. Jessie Mae Terrell of Atlanta, Mrs. Ida Mae Geter of Newnan, Mrs. Hazel Geter of Newnan; uncle, Mr. John Lee Stephens of Newnan; long-time friend, Mrs. Louise Woods; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Mr. Robert Holder Adcock, 74, of Turin Road, Turin, Ga., died Tuesday, August 20, 2002 at his residence.

Mr. Adcock was born January 30, 1928 in LaGrange, Ga., son of the late J. J. Adcock and Odell Holder Adcock. He was retired from Ryder Transport. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in World War II. He graduated from the Univeristy of Georgia and played professional baseball with the Detroit Tigers.

The family will receive friends Thursday, Aug. 22 from 9:30-10:30 a.m.

A funeral will be at graveside in Senoia City Cemetery Thursday, Aug. 22 at 11 a.m. The Rev. Searcy Jackson will officiate.

Surviving are a brother, John Wallace Adcock of Anniston, Ala.; sister, Virginia Weise of Winter Park, Fla.; grandchldren, Benjamin McKoon, Hillary Capes and Eric Capes.

A funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22 in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Rev. Johnny Williamson, the Rev. Randall Hodge and the Rev. Robert Longshore will officiate, and burial will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21.

A resident of Hogansville most of his life, Mr. Hogan was born May 21, 1947 in LaGrange. He attended First Assembly of God in Hogansville and had been employed by Wackenhut Corporation.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Sara Anne Hogan; daughter and son-in-law, Michell and Darrell Nelson; son, Michael Hogan; parents, Ford and Eva Brazell Hogan; two brothers, Jerry Hogan and L. T. Hogan, all of Hogansville.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Misty Diane Hogan.
