Mrs. Davis was born August 20, 1927 in Newnan. She was a retired bookkeeper.

Mrs. Bessie Loggins Farr Wright, 54, of Brooks, Ga., died August 19, 2002.
She was born Sept. 24, 1947. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Senoia.

Mrs. Margaret Jackson Smith, 87, of Corinth, died Saturday, Aug. 17, 2002, at Newnan Hospital.
Mrs. Smith was born May 10, 1915 in Heard County to the late Frederick and Jennilou Timmons Jackson. A lifelong resident of Corinth, she was a member of Corinth United Methodist Church and retired from Uniroyal, Inc. in Hogansville after 35 years of service. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lofley L. "Hop" Smith.
A funeral will be held Tuesday, Aug. 20, at 11 a.m. at Corinth United Methodist Church. The Rev. Timothy McDowell will officiate and burial will be in the Corinth Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday, Aug. 19, 2002, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ellen Elizabeth Arrington, 56, of Newnan died Aug. 15 at Newnan Hospital.
The funeral was 4 p.m. Saturday at Higgins Hillcrest Chapel in Newnan with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Don Helms officiated.
She was born March 7, 1946 in Coweta County. She was a member of Happy Valley Baptist Church and worked for 28 years at Hospital Discount Drugs.
She was preceded in death by her father, Cecil C. Kierbow and mother Nellie Mae Thompson Kierbow.
Survivors include sisters, Hilmer Arrington, June Pitts and Eunice Jackson, all of Newnan; sister in law, Cheryl Kierbow; seven nieces and nephews; special friend, Scott Wilson.

Thomas Eugene Haye, 74, of 72 Spence Street in Newnan, died Friday, Aug. 16, 2002, at Beaulieu Convalescent Center.
Born June 21, 1928, Mr. Haye was veteran of the air force.
A funeral service will be today at 2 p.m. at Charity Baptist Church, with Reverend Harry Parker and Reverend Randy Gilbert officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Julia Haye; a son, Greg Haye; a daughter, Cindy Reagen of Bakersville, Ca.; a sister, Margie Blankenship of LaGrange; and three grandchildren.

Billy Charles Slaton, 67, of Newnan died Aug. 15 at his residence.

He was born June 2, 1935 in Coweta County. He worked for Rider Pest Control and was an Army veteran. He was preceded in death by a son, Bruce Slaton.

Mr. Thomas Eugene Haye, 74, of Spence Street, Newnan, died Friday, August 16, 2002 at Beaulieu Convalescent Center in Newnan.
He was born in Alabama June 21, 1928. He worked in the carpet industry at Shaw Industries and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

Mrs. Faith K. Smith, 81, of Hogansville, Ga., died Thursday, August 15, 2002 at Sunbridge Healthcare Center in Rome, Ga.
A funeral was conducted 4:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16 at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in Hogansville. The Rev. Ralph Parks and the Rev. Harold Willis officiated, and burial was in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville.
Pallbearers were Steve Boswell, John Callaway, Chuck Brazell, Emmett Askew, Francis Driessens and John McKibben.
Mrs. Smith was born December 20, 1920 in Heard County, and she was the daughter of the late Alvin and Verna Eley Kidd. She was a graduate of West Georgia College and retired as an elementary school teacher after more than 33 years of service. She was a member of Ebenezer Presbyterian Church, was a former member of the Hogansville Kiwanis Club, and had been active in the Hogansville Senior Center. She was the wife of the late H. L. "Buck" Smith.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Becky and John Strain of Rome and Marguerite and Huell Stephens of Hogansville; three grandchildren and a grandson-in-law, Sandy and Scott Odom of Hogansville, Sara Strain of Rome and John Mattox Strain Jr. of Savannah.

Capt. James Shelly Charles Jr.
Capt. James Shelly Charles Jr., USAF/Retired, of Palmetto, Ga., died August 13, 2002.
He was born Sept. 21, 1924 in Winston Salem, North Carolina. Mr. Charles was raised by his father, James S. Charles Sr. as his mother died at an early age. Mr. Charles was a graduate of Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville and Southern Tech and entered the U.S. Air Force shortly after World War II. He was attached to the 49th Fighter Bomber Group in Marietta in 1951 and was sent to Korea where he flew more than 100 missions earning the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with oak leaf cluster. After serving his country, Mr. Charles joined Eastern Airlines where he retired 34 years later in 1984.
Mr. Charles was preceded in death by a son, James Shelly Charles III.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Virginia Beale Charles of Palmetto; children, Jeffrey Alan Charles of Palmetto, Jon Philip Charles of Newnan, Jennifer Lynn Charles Smith of Doraville; brothers, Richard Stone Charles and Randy Charles, both of Atlanta; sisters, Shelly Elizabeth Charles and Leslie Charles, both of Sandy Springs; grandson, James Wiley Smith.

Mr. Byron K. "Jack" Jones Jr., 81, of Peachtree City, Ga., died Wednesday, August 14, 2002 at Fayette Community Hospital.

Mr. Jones was born July 6, 1921 in Weston, son of the late Byron and Jennie Belle Smith Jones. He retired a Chief Warrant Officer from the U.S. Coast Guard after 38 years of service and also retired from Carolina Freight Carriers. A resident of Peachtree City for the past 30 years, he was a member of Mt. Gilead United Methodist Church and was a member of the Teamsters Union.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Dora Mae Jones of Peachtree City; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Hugh Patton of Sharpsburg; a granddaughter, Jaime Patton of Sharpsburg; and two grandsons, Kyle Jones and Mathew Jones, both of Loganville. He was preceded in death by a son, Byron Edward Jones.

Mrs. Laura Odeal McCarty, 88, of First Street in the Arnco community west of Newnan, Ga., died August 14, 2002 at her residence.
Mrs. McCarty was born May 25, 1914 in Coweta County to Edward and Mary Pearl (Goodroe) Attaway. She was retired from Sargent Mills.
A funeral will be a chapel service at Higgins at Hillcrest Chapel in Newnan Friday, Aug. 16 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Joe Strickland officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Cremer was born May 30, 1925 in Chambers County, Alabama, daughter of the late Grady Walker Allen and the late Sallie Shanks Allen. She was a lifelong resident of Hogansville, was a graduate of Hogansville High School, was retired from Uniroyal Inc., and was a member of the Appalachian Trail Association. An avid rock collector, she was affectionately known as the "nightingale" of Corinth Road.
Surviving are step-son and his wife, Richard and Pat Cremer of Jonesboro; sister and her husband, Sara and Curtis Lindsey of LaGrange; three brothers and their wives, Randall and Marice Allen of Mableton, Joe Frank and Doris Allen of Clemson, S.C., and Tommy and Nancy Allen of Williamson; sister-in-law, Betty Sue Allen of Hogansville; very special friend, Martha Russell, also of Hogansville; 13 nieces and nephews. Mrs. Nettie Cook Harry, 103, died Tuesday, August 13, 2002 at Hospice LaGrange.
Mrs. Harry was born December 13, 1898 in Heard County, Waresville Community. She was the daughter of the late Joe and Fannie Cook and was preceded in death by her husband, James Walter Harry Sr. and a daughter, Oweta Garrett. She was a member of Prospect United Methodist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Oleta Jabaley; son, James Walter Harry Jr. and his wife Ann Harry; ten grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Sara Foster of Franklin, Ga.

Mrs. Pollie Mickey, 80, died Saturday, August 10, 2002 at Newnan Hospital.

Mrs. Mickey was born Feb. 22, 1922 in Newnan, Ga., to the late Mr. and Mrs. Lunnie and Ludora Hall. She attended New Hope Baptist Church where she sang in the choir. She was a devoted wife and loving mother, and she opened her arms to everyone in need of help. Mrs. Mickey joined St. John Baptist in the 1970s where she attended faithfully until she became ill. There after she lived at home with her children there to care for her on a day to day basis. She was known to listen to various types of music, gospel, rhythm and blues.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Marie Bailey, Corrine Boykins, Minnie Hall, Mary Hall; and sons Willie Edward and John Henry Barnes.
Surviving are daughters, Louise Dunson, Bernise Ellis, Betty Ann Gates, Catherine S. Andrews; three stepdaughters, Lara Mae Spencer, Thelma Lee Johnson and Fannie Jean Wyatt; son, James Barnes; step-sons, Ralph Mickey and Andron Mickey; sons-in-law, Larry Ellis, Slyster Gates, Alonzo Andrews, Jessie Dunson; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Garnell Elder was born June 19, 1955 to the late Willie Claude and Janie Ray-Elder. He attended Murphy High School in Atlanta, Ga.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 17, 2002 at 11 a.m. in the sanctuary of Central Baptist Church in Newnan, Ga. for Lila Norman Fisher.
Mrs. Fisher was born November 8, 1915 in Greenville, Ga. She grew up in Columbus and married George B. Fisher Feb. 2, 1946. They lived in Newnan and Augusta, Ga. as well as Fayetteville, N.C. and Lexington, Va.
Mrs. Fisher died April 4, 2002 in Hickory, N.C.
Her husband and son, George B. Fisher Jr. of Hickory as well as her daughter, Virginia F. Cummins of Seattle, Washington, survive her. The family would like to invite any who knew Mrs. Fisher to attend this memorial service. There will be a reception following the service in the church fellowship hall.

Mr. James Webster Green, 88, of Smyrna, Ga., died Monday, Aug. 12, 2002.
A funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, at Carmichael Funeral Home in Smyrna, Ga. with the Rev. Jerry Atkins officiating. Burial will be in the Crestlawn Cemetery in Atlanta.
Mr. Green has lived in Smyrna since 1960. He was a fireman engineer for the Southern Railroad for 31 years, retiring in 1973. After retiring, he worked in security at the Scottish Rite Children's Hospital. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and the Eastwood Baptist Church in Marietta.
Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Joel Tharpe of Moreland, Carolyn and Bobby Allgood of East Point, Joyce and Steve Cambre of Newnan; two brothers, W. P. Alfonzia F. Hayes was the sixth child of thirteen born to the late George and Vannie Hayes on April 25, 1927 in Fayette County, Ga. He received Christ at an early age and joined Bethlehem Baptist Church in Peachtree City, Ga.
March 21, 1953 he married Annie M. Ringer. They had four children. He was a loving father and grandfather. He was respected and loved by all members of his family and friends.
Surviving are Alonza Hayes of Palmetto, Ga., Jannie Hayes Pruitt, Debbie Hayes, all of Palmetto, Ga., Aaron and (Chiquita) Hayes of Senoia, Ga.; ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; brother, Tommy Hayes of Clayton County; sisters, Jose Line Hayes of Peachtree City, Rose Mae Godrey, Atlanta; four sisters-in-law, Jennell Hayes of Palmetto, Wyelean Hayes of Clayton County, Ga., Betty Hayes of Atlanta, Ga., Minnie Pearl Hayes of Fayette County, brother-in-law; daughter-in-law, Lola Hayes, daughter-in-law, Lynn Hayes, Matthew Gay, Atlanta; very dear friend, Nettie Ellis of Griffin, Ga.; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Mr. Daniel "Larry" Toney, 63, died August 10, 2002 in Clayton County.
Mr. Toney, beloved father, brother and friend, was born August 12, 1938 in Fulton County, Ga. For most of his life he made his home in Tequesta, Fla. He had been a well-respected commercial and residential builder in the greater Palm Beach area for more than 45 years. He was a Shriner and member of the Amara Temple of Palm Beach, Fla. He had been made an honorary member of the American Legion Garden Lodge in P.B. Garden, Fla. In his youth he had raced stock cars at the Peach Bowl and at the Atlanta Fairgrounds.
He was the first child of Frieda Jeline Wilson Toney of Temple, Ga. and Esbon Emmett Toney of Morrow, Ga., both deceased.
Surviving are daughter, Teresa Toney Hobby; son-in-law, Joedy A. Hobby; and granddaughter, Jenny Marie Hobby, all of Newnan; sister, Glennis M. Nation of Stockbridge; two brothers, Aubrey Lee Toney and Esbon Emmett Toney Jr. and wives; nieces and nephews in Clayton County.

Mr. Emory "Pop" Gilbert Sr., 74, of Gainesville, Ga., died Sunday, August 11, 2002 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Lanier Park Campus, following an extended illness.
Born in Atlanta, Ga., Mr. Gilbert was a son of the late James Edwin and Catherine McDonald Simpson Gilbert. He graduated from Newnan High School in 1945 and was a graduate of Middle Georgia College. Mr. Gilbert also attended the University of Virginia and Georgia Tech. Mr. Gilbert, a veteran, served in the United States Army as a Corporal in Germany.
Mr. Gilbert worked for the Atlanta Gas Light Company from 1947 until he retired in 1991 after 44 years of service.
Mr. Gilbert was a past member of the Georgia High Schools Officials Association, Utility Committee of Hall County, received the 40-year safety award for no accidents with the Atlanta Gas Light Company, Elks Club, Board of Stewards - United Methodist Church in Newnan, Ga., and he was a member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church in Gainesville, Ga.
Mr. Gilbert was preceded in death by his wife, Marianne Gilbert.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center, 2150 Lime Stone Parkway, Gainesville, Ga. 30501 and Meals on Wheels, 430 Prior Street, Gainesville, Ga. 30501.
A funeral will be Tuesday, Aug. 13 at Alta Vista Cemetery at 2 p.m. with Dr. Bob Bridges officiating. The family will receive friends from noon until 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hillside Funeral Home. Burial will be in Alta Vista Cemetery.
Surviving are son and daughter-in-law, Thomas E. and Susan C. Gilbert, Evans, Ga.; sister, Charlotte Abney of Chattanooga, Tenn.; aunts, Doris Gilbert of Newnan, Ga. and Mary Ellen Gilbert of Gulf Shores, Ala.; uncle, William Gilbert of Hemet, CA.

Mrs. Daisy McDonall
Mrs. Daisy McDonall died August 7, 2002.
Mrs. McDonall was born Aug. 24, 1920 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Luther Underwood. She joined the Little Vine Baptist Church at an early age in Tyrone, Ga., under the leadership of Rev. H. H. Woodson, pastor. She married McKinley McDonall Oct. 11, 1936 and they had one child, Rubbie Lea, who preceded her in death. They later moved to Cleveland, Ohio and joined New Sardis Primitive Baptist Church where she served until her health failed.
Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Mary Jones and Mrs. Pearl Wyatt; very special nephew, Melvin McDonall; special friend, Smith Freeman; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
A funeral was Saturday, August 10, at 10:30 a.m. at New Sardis Primitive Baptist Church in Cleveland, Ohio. The Rev. Larry Tatum officiated. Family and friends served as pallbearers and flower bearers. Burial was in Highland Park Cemetery.
