Mrs. Mathalee Bukovich
Mrs. Mathalee Bukovich, 73, of Newnan, died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, at her home after a battle with cancer.
Mrs. Bukovich was born March 31, 1928, in Kentucky. During World War II, she worked in a P-38 aircraft factory in Akron, Ohio, but spent the most rewarding part of her life as a wife, mother, and homemaker. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Betty Bukovich.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Sept. 28, at Higgins Hillcrest Chapel.
Surviving are her husband of 53 years, Lawrence J. Bukovich; children Patty Hord, Carolyn Basham, and Larry N. Bukovich; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters Buelah Reedy of Virginia, Juanita Sexton of North Carolina, Geneva Breth of Pennsylvania, Maggie McGraw of Maryland, and Maxine Wagner of Maryland; and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. John Marcus Brittain Jr., 38, of Newnan died Friday at Newnan Hospital.
Mr. Brittain was born Oct. 27, 1963 in Atlanta Ga. His parents are John Brittain Sr. and Mrs. Don Henderson. He was the owner of a heavy truck repair business.
Besides his parents, survivors include his wife, Teresa; his son Marcus; his daughter Tana; and his sisters Rachel Henderson and Ronda Henderson of Forest Park and Heather Richards of Stockbridge.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home on Sunday. The funeral will be on Monday at 10 a.m. with the Reverend Dan Akain officiating. Burial will be at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.

Mary Vera Camp Bryant, 87, of 904 Murphy Ave., LaGrange, died Thursday at her home.
Mrs. Bryant, born Feb. 21, 1915 in Fulton County, was the daughter of the late James Dillard and Hattie Estelle Teate Camp. Having lived in LaGrange since 1935, Mrs. Bryant was a member of Southwest LaGrange Baptist Church and W.M.U. and was active in the Bible School program.
She attended Manchester High School in Manchester and was a former employee of the Kex Plant of Callaway Mills Company.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, JoAnne and Melvin Foster of LaGrange; four grandsons and their wives, Freddie and Vicki Foster, Joey Foster, Thomas and Missy Foster, Steve and Angel Foster, all of LaGrange; one great-granddaughter, Shelby Foster; five great-grandsons, Robby Foster, Taylor Foster, Levi Foster, Steven Foster and Austin Foster; a sister, Clovys C. Wood of Newnan; a sister-in-law, Frances Bryant Yarbrough of LaGrange and nieces, nephews and friends, including Pamela C. Spradlin.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William P. (Billy)
Bryant, a son, James Thomas (Jimmy) Bryant, two sisters, Velma Camp Cochran, Gladys Camp Hewell, and a brother, John J. Camp.
The funeral was 4:30 p.m. Saturday in the Hunter-Allen-Myhand Chapel with the Revs. Craig Marshall and J. Darry Walker Sr. officiating. Burial was in Hillview East Cemetery.

Mr. Ralph L. Cochran, 79, of Fayetteville and Covington died Friday at his home in Fayetteville.
Mr. Cochran was born Aug. 24, 1923 in Meriwether County. He was the son of the late Lucious and Pearl Parks Cochran.
He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps prior to World War II and was an Army veteran of World War II. He lived in the Atlanta area for many years, retired from the City of Atlanta Fire Department after 27 years of service. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Riverdale.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mildred Teague Hurley Cochran of Fayetteville; two daughters, Mrs. Linda Mericle of Covington and Mrs. Cathy Vickers of Morrow; two sons, Mark Cochran of Covington and Michael Chastain of Conyers; a step-daughter, Mrs. Marcia Owen of Atlanta; one sister, Mrs. Rachel Pitts of Columbus; two brothers, Carl Cochran of Douglasville and Marion Cochran of Ellenwood; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. Mr. J.T. Reeves will officiate and interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville.

Mattie Nell McCorkle, 90, of Newnan died Friday at Newnan Hospital.
She was born June 26, 1912 in Meriwether County, the daughter of Charter S. and Ella Briley Smith.
A graveside funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Bethesda Church Cemetery in Manchester with the Revs. Jimmy Fleming and Jimmy Chapman officiating.
She was a member of Elim Baptist Church and worked as a supervisor at Good Products.

Mr. Scott Wilson, 54, of LaGrange died Friday at West Georgia Medical Center.
Mr. Wilson was born July 20, 1948 in Roanoake, Al, the son of the late Chase Y. and Ardith Sessions Wilson. He was retired as a financial consultant and a member and past Commander of the VFW Post #4629 in LaGrange having served two terms in the Army during the Vietnam era.
He was an all-star basketball player for Troup High School from 1962 to 1966 and attended Young Harris College on basketball scholarship. Mr. Wilson was a Baptist by faith.
Survivors include two sons, Eric Scott Wilson of Atlanta and Joshua Chase Wilson of LaGrange; their mother, Mary E. Wilson of LaGrange; stepsons Franklin D. Singletary of South Carolina, Christopher J. Singletary of Atlanta; one sister, Ardith (Cindy) Boone and one brother, Dan Wilson both of Newnan.
Visitation will be Sunday afternoon from 3 to 5 p.m. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 30 in the chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary with the Reverend Jimmy Willis officiating. Burial will follow in Meadoway Gardens.

Mr. John Christopher "Chris" Rogers, 35, of Franklin, Ga., died September 26, 2002 at Emory Peachtree Regional Hospital.
He was born September 1, 1967 in Fulton County, Ga. He worked in sales for Pep Boy auto parts store. He served in the United States Navy from 1986-89, receiving two overseas service ribbons.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Merrill Hayes; and son, Bobby Lee Hayes.

Mr. Roy Hunt, 68, of Newnan, Ga., died Wednesday, September 25, 2002 at Hospice LaGrange after a short but hard fought battle with cancer.
Mr. Hunt was born November 23, 1933 in Fulton County to the late Houston Hunt and Viola Joyner Hunt.
He was a veteran of the Korean War serving the United States Navy. Mr. Hunt was a member of White Oak Country Club where he was regarded as an avid golfer. He was a past-Exhalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge and a longtime member of Macedonia Baptist Church.
Surviving are his children, Mike Hunt and Tracy Hunt of Newnan, Cathy Goetchius of Charlotte, N.C.; one sister, Mrs. Laura Whittington of St. Augustine, FL; and Mary Hunt, Traci Houze, Marti and Ron Head, Donald and Lisa Cochran, Ronald and Barbara Cochran, all of Newnan; as well as seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Sept. 26 at McKoon Funeral Home from 5-7 p.m.

Mrs. Catherine Millians Wood, 79, of Newnan, Ga., died at her residence Thursday, September 26, 2002.
She was born March 11, 1923. Raised in Newnan, she was a member of the First Baptist Church., a 1940 graduate of Newnan High School and attended Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville. She worked for Arnall Grocery Company and later for Liberty National Life Insurance Company.
Mrs. Wood is survived by her husband, Woodie Wood Sr.; daughters, Nora Ann Wood and Vicki and Frank Barron; son, Woodie T. and Niki Wood Jr.; grandchildren, Jess Barron, Jennie and Bob Blackburn, Vic and Kim Ivery, Cynthia Ann Wood, Madison Wood, Woodie (Trey) Wood III; and great-grandchildren Matt and Tori Blackburn, all of Newnan.

Mr. Mack Anthony Abercrombie, 60, of Newnan, died this past weekend at his residence.
Mr. Abercrombie was born in Coweta County in 1942. He worked in the construction industry before retiring due to becoming disabled.
The body was cremated and no arrangements are planned at this time.

Mrs. Vivian Davis Blackburn, 87, of Newnan, Ga., formerly of Atlanta, died on Tuesday, September 24, 2002 at Dogwood Health and Rehabilitation Center. Mrs. Blackburn was born Sept. 16, 1915 in Chatham County, Ga. Her husband, Harry Allen Blackburn, precedes her in death.

Mrs. Mary Ellen Powers, 88, of Mike Powers Road in Grantville, died Thursday, September 26, 2002 at Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28 in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Rev. Jimmie Willis and the Rev. Frank Powers will officiate and burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan.

Mrs. Powers was born May 27, 1914 in Meriwether County, daughter of the late Barney and Dallas Denney Malcolm. A resident of Grantville most of her life, she retired from Grantville Mills and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Grantville, where she taught the Beginner Sunday School class for many years.
Surviving are her husband of 73 years, Mike Powers of Grantville; three sisters, Mrs. Leona Burks of Grantville, Mrs. Eva Allen of Newnan and formerly of Grantville, and Mrs. Edna West of Carrollton; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Joyce Powers.

Mr. John D. Sharp
Mr. John D. Sharp, 75, of Newnan, died September 25, 2002 at his residence following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Sharp was born April 14, 1927 in Hartselle, Alabama, to Arthur Chapman and Vessie Haygood Sharp. He attended the Morgan County Public Schools. His high school education was interrupted to join the United States Navy in 1945. He served as a ship's cook aboard the USS Monongahela in the Pacific. When the war ended, he returned to graduate from Morgan County High School in 1947. Much to his delight, he was able to play one more year of football, therefore, earning a total of five letters.
He completed his Bachelor of Science in Forestry at Alabama Polytechnic Institute, Auburn, Alabama, in 1952. He began his forestry career with The Union Bag Paper Company in Savannah, Ga. He met and married Virginia DeLaigle in 1954 in Waynesboro, Ga. After working in various positions in south Georgia, the family moved to Newnan in 1964 when John accepted a position with Georgia Power Company Land Management Department. In 1989, he retired.
Through his membership in the First United Methodist Church of Newnan, he was actively involved with adult education in the Sunday School for more than 35 years. He also was associated with the Kiwanis Club and Georgia Power Ambassadors.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia DeLaigle Sharp; daughters, Virginia Franz and her husband Larry, Emily Sharp, and Pamela Cray and her husband John. His granddaughters are Amy Franz, Laura Franz and Casey Page. A sister-in-law, Ruth Sharp, also survives.
Preceding him in death besides his parents were his brothers, Arthur C. and Douglas L. Sharp.
A funeral will be held at First United Methodist Church Saturday, Sept. 28 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Gary Parrish and Rev. Larry Patton officiating.
Visitation is Friday evening at McKoon Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m.
Burial will be later at Burke Memorial Gardens in Waynesboro, Ga.

Mr. Charles Keys Davis Jr. of Whitesburg, born July 27, 1929, died at his residence September 22, 2002.
Mr. Davis was a retired construction superintendent and also ran a booth at West Georgia Flea Market in Carrollton.
Surviving are his wife, six children and 10 grandchildren.

Rev. Ralph Gandy, 71, of Alexander City, Alabama, died Monday, September 23, 2002 at his home in Hueytown, Alabama.
Rev. Gandy is survived by his wife of 45 years, Irene Tate Gandy; five children, Bill and Debbie Gandy of Talladega, Austin and Debbie Gandy of Alexander City, Judy and Carl Glass of Hueytown, Alabama, Jimmy and Kirsten Gandy of Roswell, Ga.; and Joan and Curtiss White of Jasper, Alabama; 11 grandchildren; brother, Frank Gandy of Vidor, Texas; two sisters, Janie Ann Carder of Loganville, Ga., and Shelvie Jean and Jack Beaton of Hoover, Alabama; and a host of nieces and nephews.
His parents, Lester and Evie Gandy; and one brother, Paul Gandy, preceded him in death.
Rev. Gandy is a 1949 graduate of Rockford High School. He is a former business partner of L. M. Askew and Austin Holley of Alexander City, Alabama. He is a 1969 graduate of Alexander City State Junior College (now Central Alabama Community College) and a 1971 recipient of the Bachelor of Arts degree from Auburn University. He earned a Master of Divinity degree from Emory University (Candler School of Theology) in 1975.
Rev. Gandy was an ordained elder in the North Alabama Conference of the United Methodist Church. During his 27-year career, he served the following United Methodist Churches: Bradford (Goodwater, Alabama); Lovejoy (Newnan, Ga.); Wadley/Almond/Ebenezer (Wadley, Alabama); Center Springs/Antioch (Sommerville, Alabama); First (Moulton, Alabama); Trinity (Alexander City, Alabama); Zion/Oakman (Jasper, Alabama) and Long Memorial/Williams Chapel (Cordova, Alabama). He served on several District boards and agencies and mentored pastors in the United Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends at Radney Funeral Home in Alexander City, Alabama, Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002 from 5-8 p.m. Memorial worship will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church in Alexander City, Alabama, Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002 at 11 a.m. Rev. John Simmons (First UMC of Hueytown, Alabama), Rev. Dalton Styes (First UMC of Trussville, Alabama) and Rev. Gerry Hearin (retired UM minister) will lead worship. Mr. Willie Paul Hatchett Jr.
Mr. Willie Paul Hatchett Jr., 50, of W. College St. Ext., Griffin, died Sunday, September 22, 2002 at Emory Hospital in Atlanta.
Mr. Hatchett was born July 27, 1952. He was a brick mason for more than 30 years and was preceded in death by his mother, Inez Hatchett.
Surviving are his father, Willie Paul Hatchett Sr. of Griffin; sons, Willie P. Hatchett III, Horace Hatchett, Rocky Hatchett and Olin Hatchett, all of Newnan; brother, Alva Hatchett of Griffin; sisters, Patricia Gregory of Griffin, Josie Hogue of MI and Ponda Goddard of TN; grandchildren, Jerry Hatchett, Jason Hatchett, Sherry Caldwell, Sarina Caldwell, Christopher Hatchett and Dustin Hatchett, all of Newnan; one great-grandchild and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and many caring friends.
A funeral will be Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Moody Funeral Home with the Rev. James Lester officiating. Burial will be in Neal Baptist Church Cemetery in Molena.

Mrs. Arnita Amie
Mrs. Arnita "Lil Sister" Amie, 63, of Newnan, died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002, at her home.
Mrs. Amie was born Nov. 12, 1938 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mayes, Sr. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie James Amie, Sr., son, Bruce Amie; sisters, Daisy Trammell and Jane Mayes; and brothers Lee Valley Mayes and Marvin Mayes.
She joined the Mt. Vernon First Baptist Church at an early age, and retired from the William L. Bonnell Company after 20 years.
A funeral was held Sunday, Sept. 22, 2002, at 3 p.m. at the Mt. Vernon First Baptist Church. The Rev. Phillip Carr, pastor, Rev. Larry Barner officiating, assisted by Evangelists Susie Hudson and Geraldine Moss. Burial was in the Eastview Cemetery.

Mr. Harvey Lee McCormick, 56, died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002, at the West Georgia Medical Center, following a brief illness.
Mr. McCormick was born Dec. 8, 1945, in Heard County, to the late Luke McCormick and Lorena Garrison McCormick. He was a Christian. He worked as a machinist and had been employed by Durand Wayland.
A funeral was held Friday, Sept. 20, 2002, in the chapel of the Tom Stutts and Son Funeral Home in Franklin. The Rev. Chad Smith officiated, and Mr. McCormick's son, Bobby, gave a stirring tribute to his father while his wife, Christy, provided music.
Serving as pallbearers were Floyd McCormick, Donald Parrott, Marvin McCormick, Shelby Chatman, Tracy McCormick, and William Chatman. Burial was at the Antioch Cemetery in Heard County.

Mr. Paul Edward Robinson
Mr. Paul Edward Robinson, 56, of Newnan, died Friday, Sept. 20, 2002, at the Franklin Healthcare Center in Franklin, Ga.
Mr. Robinson was born Jan. 13, 1946, in Coweta County, to the late Bryant and Eddie Thelma Robinson. He joined the China Grove Baptist Church in Turin at an early age. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, and a brother.
A funeral will be held Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, 2 p.m. at China Grove Baptist Church in Turin. Minister Steve Dennis will deliver the eulogy, and will be assisted by the Revs. H. Kilgour and R. Grooms, and other ministers. Burial will be in Eastview Cemetery, and Mr. Robinson's nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Mrs. Norman Carlisle Wortham
Mrs. Norman Carlisle Wortham, 86, of Alabama, and formerly of Newnan, died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002, at her home.
Mrs. Wortham was born Dec. 1, 1915, in Coweta County, the last of seven children. She became Christian at an early age and joined the Elim Baptist Church in Newnan. Later she relocated to Birmingham, Ala., and joined Shady Grove Baptist Church in Mulga, where she remained faithfully until her health failed. She served as the president of the church choir and the nurses guild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Willie Carlisle Sr.
Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 16, 2002, at the Shady Grove Baptist Church in Mulga Ala. The Rev. James Tyus, Jr., officiated, and burial was in the Georgia Washington Carver Memorial Garden in Birmingham.
Serving as pallbearers were Charles Atkinson, Freddy Wortham, Ronald Woods, Robert (China) Woods, Dominique Rankine, Jerry Atkinson, and Jake Wortham. Flower Ladies and Ushers were members of the nurses guild, Shady Grove and Peace Baptist Church, and Jackie Woods.

Mr. Marcus Eugene Colton, 50, died Thursday, Sept. 19, 2002.
Born March 24, 1952 in Meriwether County to the late Mr. Walter Thompson and to Ms. Margaret Colton, Mr. Colton was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church.
A funeral service will be Monday, Sept. 23, 2002 at 2 p.m. at the Zion Hill Baptist Church in Luthersville, with Reverend M.A. Blount officiating.
