Mrs. Lurlene S. Hendrix
Mrs. Lurlene Spradlin Hendrix, 80, of Franklin, Ga., formerly of Grantville, died Tuesday, October 29, 2002 at Newnan Hospital.

A funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1 at the Lighthouse Tabernacle of Jesus Christ in Hogansville. The Rev. Robert Longshore and the Rev. David Simmons will officiate, and burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Newnan. The family is receiving friends at the funeral home 6-9 both Wednesday and Thursday nights.

Pallbearers will be Chad Hendrix, David Pruitt, Scott Wilder, Marc Hendrix, Billy Wilder, Buddy Wilder and Gary Edwards.

Born July 26, 1922 in Carroll County, Mrs. Hendrix lived in Coweta County most of her life before making her home in Franklin. She was a member of the Lighthouse Tabernacle of Jesus Christ in Hogansville.

Surviving are her husband, Tommy G. Ellis of Franklin; five daughters, Sandra Webb of Carrollton, Marlene Martinez of Ontario, Calif., Bobbie Fennell of Valdosta, Shirley Wilder Music of Grantville, and Syble Harrell of Edenton, N.C.; five sons, Robert Hendrix of Hogansville, Tony Hendrix and Edward Agan, both of Newnan, Sidney Hendrix of Whitesburg and Mack Hendrix of Albany; four step-daughters, Barbara Jean Jones, Annie Ruth Butler, and Diane Osborne, all of Franklin, and Rosemary Ellis of Villa Rica; three step-sons, Bill Ellis of Roosterville, Ricky Ellis of Franklin, and Fred Ellis of Austell; two sisters, Ellen Hendrix of Mableton and Pauline Driver of Carrollton; 42 grandchildren, including two that she raised, Russell Wade Arrington and Kenneth Ray Hendrix, both of Newnan; and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Lula Mae Edwards and Elizabeth Hendrix, and two brothers, Talmadge Spradlin and Raymond Harper.

Mr. Woodrow Kelley, 83, of Hembree Road, Roswell, Ga., died Wednesday, October 30, 2002 at Portsbridge Hospice.

Mr. Kelley was born February 12, 1919 in Coweta County, Ga. He was a painter, both residential and commercial. He was also a veteran of the U.S. armed forces.

The family will receive friends at McKoon Funeral Home Thursday, Oct. 31 from noon to 2 p.m. and 5-7 p.m.

A funeral will be at Northside Baptist Church Friday, Nov. 1 at 1 p.m. The Rev. Hershal Randall will officiate. Burial will be in Old Alpharetta Cemetery in Alpharetta, Ga.

Surviving are his wife, Beatrice Kelley of Roswell; sons, Joe Kelley of Tallahassee, Fla., and Wayne Kelley of Newnan; daughters, Jenny Mills of Newnan and Lydia Scott of LaGrange, Ga.; sister, Shirley Smith of Newnan; 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Lorena B. Floyd, 71, of Greenville, Ga., died October 28, 2002 at Newnan Hospital.

Mrs. Floyd was born March 3, 1931 to the late Vallie and Elizabeth Durst Bauer in Point Pleasant, West Virginia. She was retired after more than 40 years as office manager with Piedmont Nat. Corp.

A funeral will be at Higgins Funeral Home at Hillcrest Chapel Thursday, Oct. 31 at 11 a.m. Pastor Daniel Dahl will officiate.

Surviving are son and daughter-in-law, Phillip and Dagmar Floyd of Greenville; brothers, Chris Mack Bauer of West Virginia and Wayne Bauer of Ohio; sisters, Clarice Jones, Garant Schwarz, Margarie Costanzo and Gladys Chapman, all of West Virginia; five grandchildren.

Mr. Seth James Floyd Sr., 58, of Lanett, Alabama, died at his residence Friday, October 25, 2002.

Mr. Floyd was born July 29, 1944 in Georgia. He was a graduate of Auburn University and the Rutgers School of Banking. He had been in the banking industry for more than 30 years. An avid sportsman, he loved fishing and hunting.

A funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30 in the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home chapel in Valley, Ala. A graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. in the Riverdale Cemetery in Columbus, Ga. The Rev. Dan Garrett will officiate.

Surviving are sons, Seth (Cassie) Floye Jr., Newnan, Ga., Mace Floyd of Atlanta and Evan Floyd of Atlanta; sister, Charlotte (William) Weathersby of Virginia; brothers, Charles E. (Norma) Floyd Jr. of Phenix City, Ala., C. F. "Rusty" (Gayle) Floyd, Phenix City, Ala; grandchild, Seth "Trip" Floyd, Newnan; mother, Hazel Rowell.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Elise Floyd Knowles and his father, Charles Eddie Floyd Sr.

Mr. Norman "Pappy" Gladfelter
Mr. Norman "Pappy" Gladfelter, 72, will be remembered at a funeral Thursday, October 31, 2002 in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Chapman and Dick Stender officiating.

Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Mr. Gladfelter was born June 17, 1930 to the late Edward and Arminta Gladfelter. He was a former employee of PAPP Clinic in Newnan, served in the U.S. Army, retired from James River Corporation, and also retired from the U.S. Air Force after serving 22 and a half years. He was a commander of the VFW Post in 1984-1985 and was All State Commander in 1984-1985. He was a Mater Mason member of Sylvan Lodge and a member of Faith Baptist Church. He was instrumental in raising funds for the Veterans Monument located in City Park at Jackson Street and Temple Avenue in Newnan where the annual Veterans Memorial Service is held each year.

Mr. Gladfelter was an avid gardener and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his son and grandson.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Otha Gladfelter; son, Skip Gladfelter; three grandchildren, Mitch, Russ and Brandy; one great-grandchild, Destiny; in-laws including Mary Gladfelter, Huntington, PA, Lawson and Nadine Boyd of Hogansville, Lois and Curtis Rooks of Carrollton, Joe and Anell Manion of Chester, Virginia; nieces and nephews; and a host of family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30 at McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson Street in Newnan.

Mr. James Elliott Otwell Sr., 79, of Oak Lawn Circle, Newnan, Ga., died Monday, October 28, 2002 at Emory Peachtree Regional Hospital.

Mr. Otwell was born February 24, 1923 in Newnan. He was a retired owner of a used car sales business. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Surviving are sisters Marie Hodge, Ruth Estep and Evelyn Chase, all of Newnan.

Visitation was Tuesday, Oct. 29 from 6-8 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home.

A funeral will be in McKoon chapel Wednesday, Oct. 30, at 11 a.m. Mansell Carpenter will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan.

Mrs. Deborah Lynn "Debbie" Cox Patacca, 47, of Newnan, Ga., formerly of Toccoa, Ga., died Thursday, October 24, 2002 in Key West, Florida.

Born January 8, 1955 in Stephens County, Ga., she was a daughter of Willie Mae Cox of Toccoa and the late Thomas Hugh Cox Jr. She was a homemaker and a member of the Toccoa First Baptist Church.

Surviving are her mother of Toccoa; husband, Tony Patacca of Newnan; daughter, Patti Powell of Phenix City, Ala.; brother, Thomas Hugh Cox III of Fayetteville, Ga.; sisters, Tommie Cox Philips and Jane Cox Sims, both of Lawrenceville, Ga.; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Patsy Cox.

A funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30 at Toccoa First Baptist Church with Dr. Jim Nelson and Dr. Henry Fields officiating. Burial will be in Stephens Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Snell, Buddy Lawson, Jackie Whitmire, David Jackson, Scott Leonard and David LaMont.

Mr. C. Everett Tolbert, 79, of Mt. Calvery Road, Whitesburg, Ga., died Monday, October 28, 2002.

Mr. Tolbert was born in Carroll County June 28, 1923, son of the late Charles Wilburn Tolbert and Siddie Lenderman Tolbert. He was a member of the Whitesburg Christian Church and a retired textile supervisor with Wellington Mills.

Surviving is his niece, Diane T. (Boyd) Stephens of Carrollton.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by sisters, Thelma Tolbert, Pauline Driver; and brother, Andrew Tolbert.

A funeral will be Wednesday, Oct. 30, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Almon Funeral Home with Minister Caryl Strange officiating. Music will be provided by Mrs. Angie Knight.

Pallbearers will be Bill Smith, Harvey Bowen, Charlie Gordon, Sherwin Shoemake, Elton Lyle and Gary Tolbert.

Mr. Billy Thomas Martin, 80, of Senoia, Ga., died October 28, 2002 at Georgia Baptist Medical Center in Warm Springs, Ga.

Mr. Martin was born in Cook county, Georgia July 24, 1922 to Daniel and Roxie Martin. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II and was a paint foreman with Textron Co. Mr. Martin was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by wife Mrs. Barbara Mason Martin.

Surviving are daughters and son-in-law, Patricia L. and Lewis Touchston, Greenville, Ga., Ms. Pamela M. Alford of Senoia, Ga; brother, Mr. Hugh Martin, Bainbridge, Ga.; sister, Mrs. Nonnie Ivey, Midlothian, Texas; grandchild, Andrew D. Mrs. Grace "Jackie" Mozelle McCormac, 81, of Sharpsburg, Ga., died Monday, October 28, 2002 after a long battle with cancer.

Mrs. McCormac was born in Havre, Montana in 1921. She was adopted early in her life by Colonel Edward Thornton McPherson. As the child of a career Army officer, she traveled extensively. An educated and experienced lady, she had a mind for business, and owned and operated several different entities, including restaurants and cemeteries. She loved nature and being outdoors. An accomplished horsewoman, she loved all animals, especially horses.

Mrs. McCormac is survived by her husband of 33 years, Mr. Frank C. McCormac; daughter, Diane Phillips of Williamsburg, Virginia; two grandchildren, two great grandchildren and many friends.

Visitation will be 2-7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29 at Jones Funeral Home.

A funeral will be at graveside in Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30 with the Rev. Thomas Shannon officiating.

She was born October 31, 1916 in Palmetto, Ga. She was a homemaker.

Mr. Thomas Watson Majors, Jr., 66, of Newnan, died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, at his home.

Mr. Majors was born Oct. 25, 1936 in Lanette, Ala. He was employed as a retail associate at Wal-Mart, and had previously worked for General Electric and in silver recycling associated with radiological equipment. He served in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force.

A funeral will be held Monday, Oct. 28, 2002, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home. The Rev. Joe Bufford and Dr. Gene Tyre will officiate, and burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sargent Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of Newnan.

Mr. Buford Nora Walker, 63, of Newnan, died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, at Emory Peachtree Regional Hospital.

Mr. Walker was born in Coweta County in 1939 to the late Alvin and Vera Walker. He was a lifelong resident of the Newnan area and was a carpenter and handyman by trade. Mr. Walker's hobbies included repairing televisions and other electronic appliances, and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Helen Walker.

A funeral will be held Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Jones Funeral Home. The Rev. Thomas Shannon will officiate, and burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 28.

Surviving are his nephews, Bobby Linch and his wife Juanita of Moreland, and David Linch and his wife Cheryl, also of Moreland; sister-in-law Bernice Walker of Newnan; several other nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Mrs. Mattie Lou Williamson, 98, of Carrollton and formerly of Luthersville, died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002 at Higgins General Hospital in Bremen.

Mrs. Williamson was born Sept. 14, 1904, in heard County. She was a member of the Hogansville Assembly of God, and had lived in Carrollton for the past five years.

A funeral will be held Monday, Oct. 28, 2002, at 4 p.m. in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Rev. Johnny Williamson will officiate, and burial will be in the Corinth Cemetery.

Mr. Billy Kenneth Adcock, 66, of Standing Rock Road, died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002, at Newnan Hospital.

A funeral service will today at 2:30 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Senoia City Cemetery.

Mr. Adcock was retired from the Ford Motor Company and had served in the United States Marine Corp.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Kathryn Howard; his father, Harold Adcock; a father-in-law, J.T. Pollard; a brother, Harry Adcock; and a sister, Mary Ellen Crockett.

Mrs. Jimmie Frances Caswell Bell, 86, of Cumming, died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002, at Beaulieu Convalescent Center.

Mrs. Bell was born in Heard County, to the late Frank Caswell and Ida Harris. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Clifford Bell. Mrs. Bell was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church and was retired from the Baby Cloths Manufacturing Company.

A funeral service was Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, at Salem United Methodist Church, with Reverends Don Jolly and Tom Lipham officiating.

Mrs. Irene Powell Levens, 85, of the Big Springs Community of Troup county, died Friday, Oct. 25, 2002, at the Brian Center of Nursing Care in LaGrange.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 28, at the graveside in Restlawn Memory Gardens in LaGrange.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 tonight.

Mrs. Levens was born March 21, 1917, in Clay county, Alabama, daughter of the late Homer and Missouri Johnson Powell. She lived in Troup county most of her life, was a member of Big Springs United Methodist Church, and was retired from the Dunson Division of West Point Pepperell Manufacturing Co. She was the wife of the late Leonard Levens.

Survivors include a daughter and son in-law, Margaret and Larry Craig of Big Springs; a grandson and his wife, Mike and Donna Craig of Hogansville; a granddaughter and her husband, Lisa and Robert Davis of Big Springs and Justin Craig and Rachel Craig of Panama City Beach, Fla.

Mr. Willie Joe Prophitt, 67, of Hogansville, died Friday, Oct. 25, 2002, at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28, at the graveside in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville. The Reverend R. C. Prescott will officiate and interment will be with full military honors.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 until 9 tonight.

Mr. Prophitt was born June 5, 1935, in Lanett, Alabama, son of the late James and Rosa Prophitt. He retired in 1974 from the U.S. Army after twenty years of service and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He had made his home in Hogansville since 1967 and also retired as a machinist from DeZurik Manufacturing Co. in LaGrange.

Mr. Phillip Lee Garner
Mr. Phillip Lee Garner, 55, of Atkinson Street, Newnan, Ga., died Thursday, October 24, 2002 at his residence.

Mr. Garner was born November 30, 1946 in Newnan. He was a retired supervisor for Delta Airlines.

The family was receiving friends at McKoon Funeral Home Friday, Oct. 25 from 6-9 p.m.

A funeral will be a McKoon Funeral Home chapel Saturday, Oct. 26 at 2 p.m. The Rev. Larry Patton and Rev. Allan Rainwater will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Bridges, Dave Edmondson, Robert Evans, Dennis Gray, Bruce Hall, Colin Harris, Sam Whitten, Campbell Williams.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Dana Garner, Sr.

Surviving are his wife, Beverly Storey Garner; mother, Cathryn Mozley Garner; sons, David Phillip (Tammy) Garner and Scott Owen (Jennifer) Garner; brothers, Charles Dana Garner Jr. and Roy Mozley (Beth) Garner; grandchildren, Scott Owen Garner, Jr., Abigail Michelle Garner and Hillary Elaine Garner; niece, Dana Garner; nephews, Seth Garner and Brian Houston.

Ms. Connie Lynn Merrigan
Ms. Connie Lynn Merrigan, 41, of Anchorage, Alaska, and formerly of Newnan, Ga., died October 19, 2002 at her home.

Ms. Merrigan was formerly from Newnan where she was the director of the Newnan Hospital Health & Fitness Center for 10 years.

Ms. Merrigan was born May 16, 1961, in Lake Charles, Louisiana and received her education at Baylor and East Stroudsbourg, Pennsylvania. She lived in Anchorage from 1974 to 1977 and returned to Alaska in March of 2000. Ms. Merrrigan worked for the Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation in Bethel, Alaska for a year and was employed by the University of Alaska Anchorage at the time of her death.

Her family writes, "Connie was a passionate friend, daughter, sister and aunt whose beautiful spirit would touch and enlighten the environment all around."

Survivors include her mother, Merle Merrigan of Quitman, Louisiana; niece, Anita Merrigan of Anchorage; sister, Toni Merrigan and brother-in-law, Roy T. Schellen of Wasilla, Alaska.

Her father, Gene Merrigan, preceded her in death.

A Service of Remembrance was held in Anchorage on Oct. 25. A Service of Remembrance for friends in Newnan will be held on Thursday, Nov. 7 at 5 p.m. at the Newnan Presbyterian Church.

Mr. William E. Murphy, 79, of Moreland, died Wednesday, October 23, 2002 at 128 Couch Street.

Mr. Murphy was born Feb. 2, 1923. He was a retired grocer and dog breeder. He was a military veteran.

A funeral will be at graveside in Southview Cemetery Saturday, Oct. 26 at 11 a.m. The Rev. Richard M. Huycke and Rev. Patrick Jansen will officiate.

Surviving are nieces and nephews along with his extended church family at Moreland United Methodist Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Moreland United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Martha Thurman Rutledge
Mrs. Martha Thurman Rutledge, 75, died October 21, 2002 after a long illness.

She was born June 20, 1927 to the late Sarah Powell Thurman and Arthur Thurman in Coweta County.

As a very young lady she became a member of the Powell Chapel United Methodist Church. She was a very active member. She served on the Usher Board ad President for 50-plus years. She was also a member of the Powell Chapel United Methodist Women, serving faithfully until her health failed.

She worked for Vinnie and George Rosenzweig for several years, where she was considered as one of the family.

She was married to Mr. Isaac Rutledge.

Surviving are three devoted cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie (Nell) Thurman, Mr. Marcellus Thurman of Detroit, MI, and Mr. Garland Thurman of Cincinnati, OH; aunt, Ms. Orrie Q. Powell; two step-sisters, Helen Jones of Newnan and Elizabeth Thomas of Atlanta; step-brother, Bennie Mathis of Newnan; special friend, Mr. James Patrick of Newnan; a host of cousins and other relatives and friends.

A funeral will be Sunday, Oct. 27 at 2 p.m. at Powell Chapel United Methodist Church. The Rev. Joe P. Geter will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Willie Geter, Rev. Ray Robinson, Rev. Moses Woodruff and Rev. R. W. Sutton. Burial will be in Eastview Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be the United Methodist Men of Powell Chapel. Cousins and friends will serve as active pallbearers.

Mrs. Douglass Sutherland Justiss
Mrs. Douglass Sutherland Justiss, 63, a teacher and principal, died Wednesday, October 23, 2002, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, Mississippi.

Visitation will be Saturday, Oct. 26 from noon until the 2 p.m. memorial service at St. Columb's Episcopal Church in Ridgeland, Mississippi. Burial will be in the church columbarium.

Mrs. Justiss, daughter of John and Artie Kern Sutherland, was a Mississippi native born in Canton. She was a graduate of Provine High School and the University of Southern Mississippi. She continued her terminal degree in education by attending the University of Georgia and Georgia State University.

Mrs. Justiss was a former resident of Newnan, Ga. where she was active in education in the local schools, and continued in school administration.

As a resident of Ridgeland she was a communicant of St. Columb's Episcopal Church, where she served on the Vestry and board of the Heritage School.

Surviving are her husband, Bobby Justiss of Ridgeland, MS; brother William J. Sutherland of Savannah, Ga.; two nieces and three nephews.

Memorials may be made to the building fund of St. Columb's Episcopal Church, 550 Sunnybrook Road, Ridgeland, MS 39157.

Mr. C. Cooper Bell Jr.
Mr. C. Cooper Bell Jr., 80, of Virginia Beach, Va. , died Tuesday, October 22, 2002 after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of the former Mary Ellen Banks of Grantville and the father of Janie Powell of Newnan.

A lifelong resident of Virginia, he graduated from Randolph-Macon College and the Medical College of Virginia (MCV). He served in the Army and later became a surgeon. He was the associate professor of surgery at MCV and director of research at McGuire Veterans Hospital in Richmond, where he was widely published. He later was director of research at the Hampton VA Hospital as well as chief of staff. He was also professor of surgery and assistant dean of the Eastern Virginia Medical School when it was founded in 1973. He retired in 1983.

He was former member of the Board of Governors of the Richmond Red Cross; a past president of the alumni society and a member of the Board of Trustees of Randolph-Macon and received the distinguished alumni service award from the College.

In addition to his wife Mary Ellen of Virginia Beach, Virginia, he leaves children, Cooper III of Virginia Beach, Janie and husband Jack Powell of Newnan, Donald and wife Patty of Virginia Beach, and Mary Ruffin and husband Tim Ardell of Virginia Beach; his grandchildren, Margaret, Frances and Elisa Powell, James and Tyler Bell and Thomas Bobo Ardell.

Burial in Grantville will be at 11 a.m., Saturday.

Mr. Franklin Lee Caldwell, 68, of Sargent, Ga., died October 22, 2002 at his residence.

Mr. Caldwell was born July 2, 1934 in Coweta County. He was a block mason and was self-employed. He was the son of the late Frank and Ruby Bolling Caldwell. He was preceded in death by a brother, Troy Caldwell.

Surviving are his wife, Annie Caldwell of Sargent; step-sons and daughters-in-law, George and Susie Caldwell of Luthersville, Walter and Michelle Hamrick of Carrollton; step daughters and sons-in-law, Rita Summers of Douglasville, Betsy and Rusty Smallwood of Sargent, Shirley Carroll of Sargent, Brenda and Mike Newman of High Falls, Nancy and Octavio Mata of Oklahoma, Rose and Shane Carlisle of Griffin, and Jessie Gibby of Forest Park; sisters, Betty Caldwell of Sargent, and Mary and Bobby McCoy of Sharpsburg; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the Higgins Hillcrest Chapel in Newnan. The Rev. Joe Strickland will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Mrs. Laverne Goare Chambless
Mrs. Laverne Goare Chambless, 91, of Columbus, Ga., and formerly of Luthersville, Ga., died September 23, 2002 at St. Frances Hospital in Columbus.

A funeral was Sept. 25 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Macon Road, Columbus, with Dr. Brad Hicks officiating. Pallbearers were her grandsons and grandsons-in-law. Burial was in Parkhill Cemetery.

Mrs. Chambless, widow of Hiram C. Chambless, was born Nov. 1, 1910 in Richland, Ga. Her parents were the late Levin Wesley and Willie Mae Hudson Goare. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Levada Henderson and brothers, Guy and Pic Goare.

Formerly of Richland and Luthersville, Ga., Mrs. Chambless lived in Columbus for the past four years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Richland, and was a registered nurse, completing her training at Grady Hospital in Atlanta, Ga. in 1930.

Surviving are two daughters and one son-in-law, Betty C. Roberts and Elaine C. and Charles Sheppard, both of Columbus; son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Peggy Chambless of Macon, Ga.; her eight grandchildren, Jeff, Steve and Paul Meyer, Bonnie Love, Mike Sheppard, David, Robbie and Ken Chambless; 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, Addie Thomason of Madison, AL; brother, Bill Goare of Slidell, LA; sister-in-law, Frances Goare of Lumpkin, Ga.; several nieces and nephews.

Ms. Julia (June) Berry died Saturday, October 19, 2002 in Detroit, Michigan.

A memorial service will be Thursday, Oct. 24 at 1 p.m. in the Sellers-Smith R.W.S. Memorial Chapel with Mrs. Charlie Perkins officiating, assisted by Dr. Vidalia Addy. Burial will be in Eastview Cemetery.

Ms. Berry was born in Newnan, Ga. April 16, 1930. She was the only daughter of the late C. L. and Lonnie Bell Berry and was preceded in death by two brothers, C. L. Berry Jr. and Aubrey Berry Sr.

She attended Pinson Street Elementary School and Howard Warner High School. She moved to Detroit, MI at age 19. In Detroit, she was an active member of her church.

Surviving are daughter, Charlie Perkins; grandchildren, Charles Chambers Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Christopher (Marecia) West, Dana Perkins; great-grandchild, Malea West; sister-in-law, Helen Berry; niece, Vanessa Coleman; nephews, Mr. and Mrs. Aubrey (Candice) Berry Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Elke (Pricella) Berry; great nephews and nieces; one great-great nephew; other relatives and friends.
