Mr. Robert W. Martin, 81, of Sharpsburg, Ga., died Monday, October 21, 2002 at Georgia Baptist Meriwether Hospital.
Mr. Martin was born April 23, 1921 in the Turin-Sharpsburg area of Coweta County. He worked as a farmer and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by wife Ruby Mae Rogers Martin and parents Walker and Blanche Martin.
A funeral will be at graveside in Mt. Gilead United Methodist Church cemetery Thursday, Oct 24 at 2 p.m. The Rev. Mike Ayers will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Mt. Gilead United Methodist Church, 2651 E. Highway 16, Sharpsburg, Ga. 30277.

Mrs. Martha Rebecca Robertson, 88, of Waverly Circle, Newnan, Ga., died Monday, October 21, 2002 at Atlanta Medical Center.
Mrs. Robertson was born December 22, 1913 in Newnan. She was a homemaker and retired sales clerk. She was the widow of the late Oliver O. Robertson.
The family was receiving friends Tuesday from 7-9 p.m.
A funeral will be in McKoon Funeral Home chapel Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 3 p.m. The Rev. John Riley and Rev. Chris Webb will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

A funeral for Mr. Allan George "Tig" Teagle of Newnan will be Wednesday, October 23, 2002 at 1 p.m. at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church. The Rev. J. W. Mr. Teagle was born August 10, 1952 to the late Mrs. Georgia Mae Marsh Johnson and the late Mr. George A. Teagle. He attended Central High School in Newnan where he participated in several sports and was considered a good athlete and graduated with the class of 1970. He joined the U.S. Military and was honorably discharged.
He was a member of the Zion Hill Baptist Church during the earliest years of his life and in later years joined Mt. Sinai Baptist Church. He was a wonderful father, caring brother and good friend to others.

Mrs. Willie Jean Smith Thurman died Sunday, October 20, 2002 at Newnan Hospital.
A funeral will be Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 3 p.m. at Wesley Chapel A.M.E. Church with Rev. Melvin Henry pastor officiating, assisted by other ministers. Burial will be in the New Macedonia Church cemetery on Cedar Creek Road. The body will lie in state at the church from 1:30 p.m. until the hour of the service. Mrs. Thurman was born Nov. 12, 1939, the second of nine children born to Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Smith (Annie Mae) in Coweta County, Ga. At an early age she joined the Wesley Chapel A.M.E. Church. Willie Jean married Willie James Thurman in 1962. She is preceded in death by her father, Alvin Smith; brother, Eddie Smith; children, Carolyn Roberts, Terry Thurman and Lonnie Robertson; and a grandchild, Chemise Hill.

Rev. Marion Lewis Mayo, of Hazelhurst, Ga., died October 20, 2002.
Rev. Mayo was born and raised in McDonough, Ga. where he worked for Henry County Freezer Locker and Meritta Bread Company. He married Marilynn Boyd in 1945 and with her raised five children. He was called into the Lord's service in 1957 and was ordained as a Baptist minister on December 23, 1957. He began his theological education at Norman Junior College and continued at Mercer, William Carey College, Luther Rice Seminary, New Orleans Seminary and Baptist Bible Institute. He received his Doctorate of Divinity in 1981. He served as Pastor to many churches throughout Georgia including: Pinegrove Baptist in Mountrie, Big Creek Baptist in Coolidge, Kingwood Baptist in Moultrie, Roddy Baptist in Cochran, Morningside Baptist in Brunswick, Stuart Baptist in Covington, Second Baptist in Jackson, Emmanuel Baptist in Brunswick, McIntosh Baptist in Newnan, Baptist Tabernacle in Newnan, Calvary Baptist in Gainesville, Calvary Baptist in Gray, Emmanuel Baptist in Cochran, Pineview Baptist in Sylvester, Magnolia Baptist in Whigham, Blockhouse Baptist in Jacksonville, and Grace Baptist in Hazelhurst.
In his own words of his ministerial calling Rev. Mayo wrote: "I was saved at the age of 24 and immediately called to preach. I believe my role as pastor is to lead a church in a strong comprehensive study of the Bible, to train the leadership of the church, disciple believers, and go forth in action through personal soul winning. I have a total commitment to the calling of God to do His will." His children testify he was a true man of God because he lived the life he preached about.
Rev. Mayo loved fishing, baseball and growing vegetables that he shared with others. He enjoyed his family, children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Marilynn and by a son, Randy.
Surviving are his present wife, Mildred Mayo of Hazelhurst; sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Joan Mayo, and Gary Mayo of McDonough, Chad and Carla Mayo of Newnan; daughter, Tamara West of Newnan; stepson, Neil and Amy Carter of Hazelhurst; siblings, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Mayo and Miss Ruth Mayo of McDonough, Mr. and Mrs. David Mayo of Griffin and Mr. J. D. Mayo of Newnan; 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Merlin Merrill, 71, of Franklin, Ga., was remembered at a funeral Thursday, October 17, 2002 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Tom Stutts and Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Farlow officiating.

Mr. Merill was born in Heard County, Ga., October 13, 1931 to the late Joe Bell Merrill and Velma Hyatt Merrill. He was a roofing contractor and member of the Centralhatchee Methodist Church. He was a man that was known for his tremendous work ethic.

He married Lovenia Dixon of Newnan on Nov. 4, 1934. The couple had these children: the Rev. and Mrs. Curtis Ray (Hazel) Miller, Airlene Williams (deceased), Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Williams, the Rev. and Mrs. Willie J. (Alice) Reese, the Rev. and Mrs. Hayward Williams Jr., and the Rev. Mrs. Laurens Williams. Other survivors included one sister-in-law, Mrs. Airlene Salughter Avery; dedicated granddaughter, Mrs. Phyllis Dorsey and cousin, Miss Inez Jefferson; 24 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great grandchildren.

Mr. Corry Tillman White, 75, of Hogansville died Saturday, Oct. 19 at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.
Mr. White was born Oct. 15, 1927 in Hogansville. He was the son of the late Joe Henry and Pauline Denney White. He retired from the Air Force where he played baseball for both the Army and the Air force in the United States and in England. He also played baseball and basketball for Callaway Mills in Manchester and Uniroyal Stark Mill ball teams. After retirement, he was employed by Liberty National, Botex and the City of Hogansville. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and the Hogansville Masonic Lodge.
The funeral will be held at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 22 in the chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. Brother Ed White and Rev. Vernon Prather will officiate and interment will military honors will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Dorothy Jane Adams, 65, of Carrollton, died Friday, Oct. 18, 2002, at Tanner Memorial Medical Center.
Born Nov. 4, 1936, Mrs. Adams was a retired seamstress from Playtex.
A funeral service will be held Monday, Oct. 21, 2002, at 2 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home, with Reverend Troy Blackwelder, Reverend Talmadge Chandler and Reverend J. W. Daniel officiating. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be today between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. and between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Mrs. Frances Mary Askey
Frances Mary Askey, 86, of Newnan, died Friday, Oct. 18, 2002, at LaFayette Nursing Home in Fayetteville after an extended illness. Mrs. Askey was born to Frank and Tillie McKnight in 1916 in Cork City, Ireland. She lived in Ireland, France, and Canada before moving to Toledo, Ohio, where she lived for 73 years.
Mrs. Askey graduated Woodward High and attended the University of Toledo. For years, she was a bookkeeper for DeVeaux Appliance and then for Haupert Appliance, where she retired. She was married to James Askey for 59 years at his death. Together, they were active in many Toledo activities, including the Toledo Rose Society, Cars of the Past and Body Recall. An avid gardener, she won many prizes for her roses and flower arrangements.
Survivors include two children, James Bruce Askey and Elaine Askey of Newnan, Janice Meister and Charles Meister of Elmhurst, Ill; five grandchildren, David Askey and wife Shumei of Carlisle, Mass., Cheryl Cardella and husband Daniel of Raleigh, North Carolina, Daniel Askey and wife Nellie of Sharpsburg, Eric Meister and wife Michelle of Geneva, Ill., and Ethan Meister of Elmhust, Ill; and six great grandchildren, Christopher and Nicholas Cardella, Ellen Askey, Haley Askey, Andrew and Caroline Meister; two brothers, William McKnight and F. Rush McKnight and wife Nancy.
Mrs. Askey was preceded in death by her husband James and a brother, Robert McKnight.

A funeral service will be held today at 2 p.m. from the New Hope A.M.E. in Haralson for Mrs. Ruby Jewell Calhoun Harris Hill. Reverend Willie Heard and Elder Stanley Harris will officiate, assisted by Lucy Hill, Elder Ronnie Johnson, Elder Willie J. Hill, and Elder Rodney Hill.
Interment will be at CMG Cemetery in Cleveland, Oh. The cortege will assemble at Sellers-Smith Funeral Home at 12:45 p.m. today.
Mrs. Hill was born on Sept. 20, 1941 to the late John C. Calhoun and Catherine Spear Calhoun. She was the third of four children. Her only brother, J.C. Calhoun, preceded her in death.
Ruby accepted Christ at an early age and later became a member of Davis Temple of God in Christ. She was a faithfull member and served on the Mother's Board and on the hospitality committee.
Ruby met and fell in love with Joseph Harris. Together they had four children; Bernice Harris, who died shortly after birth, Betty Jo Harris, Elder Stanley Harris and Laverne Harris. She moved to Cleveland, Oh., in 1968 where she met Melvin Jeter and they had a daughter, Melba Jeter.
She worked at Monifiore Nursing Home in Beachwood for seven years until her death. She was a loving mother and a very caring person to everyone she met. She was known for her loving smile. All who knew her knew she loved her grandchildren dearly. She would tell people you haven't lived until you have grandchildren.
Survivors include children and grandchildren, Jeffrey Juan Harris, Darrell Demario Smith, Ter'yance Lashon Sanders, Eric Kincard Harris Clark, Dawn Marie Black, Kevin Juan Black, and Corina Nicole Harris, sisters, Lucy Hill and Mrs. Louise Tookes; a great aunt, Dealie Mae Matthews and her husband Arnold and their eight children; great aunts, Olivia Hill Penson, Mary Ruth Cook and Rosetta Dorsey, and a host of other loving relatives and dear friends.

Mr. Johnson was born September 7, 1946 in Hogansville, son of the late Leroy and Effie Estes Johnson. Before making his home in Dawson earlier this year, he lived in Troup County most of his life and was employed as a carpenter.
Surviving are two daughters, Mary Jo Furlow and Melinda Ray Cauthen; son, William Grady Johnson, all of Hogansville; four sisters, Linda Golden of Sasser, Dolly Bonner, Patricia Moody and Gaynelle Spradlin, all of LaGrange; three brothers, Tommy Johnson of LaGrange, Benny Johnson of Hogansville, and Danny Johnson of Albany; five grandchildren, Kacie Furlow, Chase Furlow, Hayley Cauthen, Dixie Cauthen, and William Cody Johnson.

Mr. Curtis Leonard Moore, 84, of Bulldog Drive, Griffin, Ga., died Monday, October 14, 2002 at the Sunbridge Health Care.
Mr. Moore was born in Fort Payne, Alabama, August 22, 1918 to the late John Perry Moore and the late Martha Robertson Moore. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Patsy Evans; and a son, Tommy Moore. Mr. Moore was retired from the Crompton-Highland Mill, and was of the Holiness Faith.

Mrs. Swason was born May 3, 1924 in Atlanta, daughter of the late Luke and Lucille Cauldwell Dickey. She was a homemaker and gardener.
Mrs. Swanson was a member of First Alliance Church of Atlanta. She was the widow of Grant H. Swanson Sr.

Dr. Eugene William Tornow
Dr. Eugene William Tornow, 84, died Thursday, October 17, 2002 in Newnan, Ga.
Dr. Tornow was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin September 14, 1918, son of Julius and Ida Tornow. He grew up in Milwaukee and graduated from Milwaukee State Teachers College where he lettered four years in cross-country. He took his first teaching position in Albany, Wisconsin, where he met Antonia Nuwash. They were married July 18, 1941. In 1943 the couple moved to Appleton, Wisconsin where he taught Junior High School for the next 13 years. In 1946 he earned his Mater of Education from Lawrence College. In addition to teaching math and social science, Mr. Tornow coached football, basketball and track, and was an official for state high school football and basketball. He was also the assistant director of the Appleton recreation department. In 1956 he moved into public school administration, holding positions of high school principal in Reeseville and Watertown, Wisconsin. In 1965 he earned his PhD from the University of Wisconsin. He subsequently became Superintendent of Schools in Massena, New York, Oak Creek, Wisconsin and Beloit, Wisconsin. Dr. Tornow retired as Superintendent of the Beloit School System in 1979. The Wisconsin Association of School District Administrators recognized his contributions to public education by awarding him the first Outstanding Educator Award for the state of Wisconsin. Following his retirement, Mr. Tornow served as a consultant to school administrators and the Wisconsin State Board of Education. In 1998, Eugene and Antonia Tornow moved to Newnan, Ga.
Surviving are his wife, Antonia; two sons, Robin Tornow and wife Barbara of Newnan and Joel Tornow and wife Suzanne of Meridian, Idaho; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The family will have visitation at McKoon Funeral Home in Newnan from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20. There will be a memorial service at the Newnan First United Methodist Church Monday, Oct. 21 at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Valhala Cemetery in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
The family requests memorial contributions in lieu of flowers. Contributions may be made to Newnan First United Methodist Church Building Fund, the Alzheimer's Association or Pointe Magnolia Care Center.

Mrs. Mattie Wortham Cameron died Sunday, Oct. 13, 2002 in Asheville, N. C.
A resident of Asheville for a number of years, she was a daughter of the late Ernest and Ruth Ann Lovette Wortham. She was a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church.
The graveside funeral service will be held Saturday, Oct. 19, at 1 p.m. in Mt. Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery in Moreland.

Ms. Minnie L. Hill
Ms. Minnie L. Hill, died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002 at Emory Peachtree Regional Hospital.
Ms. Hill joined Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. She attended the church until her health failed. Ms. Hill was preceded in death by a brother, Willie Carl Hill.

Mrs. Clyde Holston
Mrs. Clyde Hickson Holston, 72, died Sunday, Oct. 13, 2002 at Spalding Regional Hospital in Griffin.
Mrs. Holston was born July 23, 1931 in Woolsey, daughter of the late Jack and Petra Hickson. She joined Oak Grove Baptist Church at an early age and services faithfully on the Mother Board until her health failed.
Mrs. Holston was employed at Southern Mills for many years.
On Feb. 28, 1949, she married Deacon Harold Holston, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by a son, the Rev. David Holston.

Mr. James E. "Jimmy" Staley, 67, of Hogansville died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002 at his home.
Mr. Staley was born Nov. 11, 1934 in Grantville. He lived most of his life in Hogansville.
Mr. Staley attended Hogansville High School. He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Austell.
Mr. Staley was a retired photographer. He was preceded in death by his father, James A. Staley, and a brother, Ronald A. Staley.
The funeral service will be today, Oct. 17, at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville with the Rev. Bob Kerr officiating. Interment will follow at Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville.

Charles V. Tennihan
Charles Vincent Tennihan, 87, of Fayetteville died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002 at Portsbridge Hospice Center in Riverdale.
Mr. Tennihan was born in 1915 in Boston, Mass., one of 10 children of Robert and Alice Tennihan. He grew up in Boston.
Mr. Tennihan was drafted by the U. S. Army Air Corps in 1941. He saw active duty as an air crew chief in both the European and North African theaters.
After the war, while stationed in Atlanta, he met and married his wife, Alice. They were married 54 years before she died two years ago.
Mr. and Mrs. Tennihan were both active members of North Fayette United Methodist Church. He liked golf and painting, but particularly enjoyed his friends at church.
The family will receive friends at Jones Funeral Home today, Oct. 17, from 5-7 p.m.
The funeral service will be held Friday, Oct. 18, at 1 p.m. Mr. Tennihan will lie in state starting at noon.
Rev. Bob Kerr and Rev. Franklin Long will officiate. Interment will follow at Westminster Gardens in Peachtree City.

Mr. Rollie Lee Thompson, 66, of Sharpsburg, died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002.
Mr. Thompson was born February 18, 1936, to the late Wilber and Ester Thompson. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of Heatherwood White Oak Baptist Church, where he was a deacon, choir member, and member of the Joy Sunday School Class.
A funeral will be held Friday, Oct. 18, 2002, at 2 p.m. at the Heatherwood White Oak Baptist Church. Dr. Tom Daugherty and the Rev. Don Lunceford will officiate, and burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. The Joy Sunday School Class and the Heatherwood deacons will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Mrs. Barbara Sue Wilkerson, 52, of Newnan, died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002.
Mrs. Wilkerson was born Oct. 18, 1949, in Fulton County, to James and Betty Brown. She was a member of The Rock Baptist Church in Fayette County, and was preceded in death by her husband, Ronnie Wilkerson.
A funeral will be held Friday, Oct. 18, 2002, at 11 a.m. at The Rock Baptist church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive visitors on Thursday from 2 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. The remains will lie in state at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday.

Mrs. Grace Lupo Harmon, 86, of Hogansville died Sunday, Oct. 13, 2002 at Florence Hand Home in LaGrange.
Mrs. Harmon was born Jan. 29, 1916 in Walker County, daughter of the late Arthur and Lena Hilton Lupo. A resident of Hogansville for the past 22 years, she was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Harmon was active in the United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She had served as a leader for Camp Fire Girls.
She was the widow of Earl H. Harmon.

Mrs. Hallie Reid
Mrs. Hallie Alcutt Wilson Reid, 92, of Atlanta and formerly of Luthersville, died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002 at Haven House Hospice in Atlanta.
Mrs. Reid was born Jan. 29, 1910 in Richmond, Va., daughter of the late Herbert and Emma Gregory Alcutt. A longtime resident of Luthersville, she was retired from the sales tax division of the Georgia Department of Revenue.
Mrs. Reid was a member of Luthersville United Methodist Church, where she had been active in the United Methodist Women. She was the first woman appointed to the Meriwether County Jury Commission, and she was named to Who's Who in Georgia in 1973.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ormond Wilson; a son, Bobby Wilson; a daughter, Emily Wilson Fuller; and two granddaughters, Joy Wilson Brahan and Debbie Wilson.

Mr. Austin Moses
Mr. Austin Ruel Moses, 51, of Lakemount Drive, College Park died Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002 at South Fulton Medical Center in East Point.
Mr. Moses was born May 28, 1951 in Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, U. S. Virgin Islands. The oldest of eight children, he lived in St. Thomas until he completed his elementary school education and moved to the mainland United States at age 15 to complete his high school education.
In 1971, he joined the U. S. Army, serving three years. After his military service, Mr. Moses returned to Bronx, N. Y. where he supported his family through various jobs.
The funeral service was held Oct. 10 at Mt. Olive Seventh-day Adventist Church in East Point with the Rev. Darryl Howard, pastor, officiating. Interment followed at Mt. Harmony Memorial Gardens in Mableton.
Survivors include sons, Austin Jr., Lavarr, Jermaine; sisters, Juliet, Deborah, Karen, Lydia; brothers, Lee, Dwayne; two grandson and one granddaughter.

Mr. Benjamin Romanowski, 65, of Newnan died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002 at Newnan Hospital.
Mr. Romanowski was born Dec. 17, 1936 in Bedford, Mass. He was a maintenance planning supervisor with World Airways.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, Oct. 16, at 7 p.m. in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home.
