Mr. Ernest Bill Waldrop, 82, of Flippin (McDonough) died Oct. 12, 2002.
Mr. Waldrop was born Aug. 27, 1920, son of the late Will and Alice Waldrop. He served aboard the USS North Carolina BB55 while in the U. S. Navy during World War II.
He was preceded in death by a son, Mitchell Waldrop, and by siblings, Leroy Waldrop, Jessie Waldrop, Ann Purdy and Jean Hoffer.
The family will receive friends today, Oct. 15, from 6-8 p.m. at Carl J. Mowell and Sons Funeral Home in Fayetteville.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 2 p.m. at Sweetgum Baptist Church in Robbinsville, N. C. Interment will follow at the Wiggins Family Cemetery in Robbinsville.

Mr. Cody Watson
Mr. Cody Watson, 65, of North Ninth Street, Griffin died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002 at his residence.
Mr. Watson was the youngest of 17 children born to the late Ben and Mattie Watson of Meriwether County. He joined Sasser Grove Baptist Church at Senoia at an early age and served as an usher until he was ordained a deacon.
He worked for Panama Products in Griffin for 25 years. Mr. Watson was preceded in death by 14 brothers and sisters.
The funeral service was held Oct. 13 at Sasser Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. J. H. Childs, pastor, officiating. Interment followed at Neriah Cemetery at Haralson.

The funeral service for the Rev. Willie Robert "Roy" Zackery, 76, of Newnan will be held Wednesday, Oct. 16, at 2 p.m. at Sword of the Lord Ministries with Brother Randy Hall, officiating.
Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery, Moreland. Pallbearers will be Louis Zackery, Danny Haiston, Wallace McWilliams, Willie Tennie, Miki Render and Willie Parks.
The Rev. Zackery was born June 22, 1926 in Coweta County to the late R. Z. and Othella M. Zackery. He was educated in the Coweta County schools and later studied at Emmanuel Baptist College and the Candler School of Theology at Emory University in Atlanta.
While a member at Mt. Calvary, he served in many capacities with the Sunday School, the choir and as a deacon. He was called into the ministry and served several congregations.
His first wife, Inez Ingram Zackery, preceded him in death.

Mrs. Gladys Cook, 89, of Newnan, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, at Beaulieu Convalescent Center.
Mrs. Cook was born May 7, 1913, in Coweta County. She was a retired Licensed Practical Nurse at Coweta General Hospital, and a long-time member of Mills Chapel Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Lee Cook, and a granddaughter, Joy Rainwater.
A funeral will be held Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, at 3 p.m. at Higgins at Hillcrest Chapel. The Rev. Bob Daugherty will officiate, and burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Virgil Lex Thompson, Sr., 66, of Grantville, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, at Newnan Hospital.
Mr. Thompson was born Dec. 20, 1935, in Gastonia, N.C., to the late Collis and Mattie Morrow Thompson. He was a retired tree surgeon.
A funeral will be held Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002, at 11 a.m. at McKoon Funeral Home. The Rev. James Calhoun will officiate, and burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Mrs. Corene Bledsoe, 89, died Friday, Oct. 11, 2002 at Beaulieu Convalescent Center.
Born Feb. 15, 1913 in Carroll County, Mrs. Bledsoe was a retired garment worker at Playtex and a member of Arnco Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be Monday, Oct. 14, 2002 at McKoon Funeral Home at 2 p.m. with Reverend Franklin Treadwell and Reverend Doyle Bledsoe officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be today between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home.
Survivors include two sons, Bobby Bledsoe of Montgomery, and Peniston Bledsoe of Zebulon; a daughter, Gail White of Newnan; three sisters, Frances Craft of Austell, Clara Driver of Carrollton, and Tera Freeman of Carrollton; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Dr. Jimmy R. Brown
Dr. Jimmy R. Brown, 63, of Hogansville, died Friday, Oct. 11, 2002 at Hospice LaGrange.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. today at Highland Baptist Church in Hogansville. Dr. Frank McLeod and Dr. Bob Atkins will officiate. Interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville.
Dr. Brown was born Nov. 15, 1938, son of the late Fred and Velma Gladney Brown. A 1957 graduate of Hogansville High School, he earned his doctorate from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Jacksonville, Fla. Dr. Brown served as a Baptist minister for 31 years.
A former resident of LaGrange and the Atlanta area, Dr. Brown returned to Hogansville in 1991 to serve as pastor of Highland Baptist Church, after serving pastorates at Hillcrest Baptist Church, Hiram First Baptist Church, Clarkdale Baptist Church and Roopville Baptist Church. Over the years, he served as a chaplain at hospitals, nursing homes and hospices in LaGrange and in the Atlanta area and also served as a substitute teacher at Troup High School and Callaway High School.
Survivors include his wife, Sybil Yarbrough Brown of Hogansville; two daughters and a son-in-law, Cathy and Jeff Pike of Douglasville and Paula Brown of Hogansville; one son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Melinda Brown of Kokomo, Indiana; four grandchildren, Christen Pike, Joshua Pike, Elijah Patrick and Elissa Brown; two brothers, Bobby Brown of Grantville and Jack Brown of Atlanta.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Jimmy Brown Jr. and Chris Brown.

Mrs. Ruth H. Walker of Dahlonega, formerly of Atlanta, died Friday at Chestatee Regional Hospital.
A native of Cartersville in Bartow County, she was the daughter of the late Calvin G. and Lillian Maude Jasper Howren.
Mrs. Walker was a retired accountant for Fireman's Fund Insurance.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Walker Jr. in 1999.
Survivors include a daughter, Valerie Myers of Marietta; grandchildren, Kristen Myers-Fox of Tampa, and Joe Myers of Atlanta; and a brother, John Howren of Asheville, North Carolina.

Mr. Betty Jean Blair, 66, of Sharpsburg died Thursday, Oct. 10,. 2002 at Southwest Christian Hospice in Union City.
Mrs. Blair was born April 18, 1936 in Fulton County to the late Will and Evie Higgins Black. She was a retired bus driver for the Fulton County Board of Education.
Visitation will be today, Oct. 12, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Higgins Funeral Home at Hillcrest Chapel.
The funeral service will be Sunday, Oct. 13, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Higgins at Hillcrest. The Rev. Ted Padgett will officiate.
Interment will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Park in Fairburn.

Mrs. Lillie Maude Lynch, 89, of Newnan died Oct. 6, 2002.
Mrs. Lynch was born May 7, 1913 in Moreland, daughter of the late Raymond and Ada Walton. At an early age, she joined Mt. Prospect Baptist Church at Moreland.
She was the widow of Willie Lynch. Mrs. Lynch was employed by the Orr family for more than 40 years.
The funeral service will be held today, Oct. 12, at 1 p.m. at Mt. Prospect Baptist Church with the Rev. McArthur Blount officiating, assisted by other ministers. Interment will follow at the church cemetery with nephews as pallbearers.

Thomas Dozier Martin, 65, of Brooks died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002 at his residence.
Mr. Martin was born April 4, 1937, son of the late Raymond Williams and Sarepta Dozier Martin. A former resident of LaGrange, he was a graudate of LaGrange High School where he was voted Mr. LaGrange High.
Mr. Martin received a degree in industrial management from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1960. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army Reserves.
Mr. Martin was active in Ducks Unlimited. He was a retired real estate broker.
The graveside funeral service will be Sunday, Oct. 13, at 2:30 p.m. at Shadowlawn Cemetery in LaGrange. The Rev. Helen Henry will officiate.
The family will receive friends from noon until 2 p.m. at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary. A reception will follow the service at the home of Bruce and Jo Crawford, 187 Bass Rd., Hogansville.

Mr. Willie Thrash Sr., 84, died Oct. 9, 2002 at his residence.
Mr. Thrash was born Dec. 20, 1917 to the late Charlie Thrash and Endia Ellison. He was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church at Haralson.
Mr. Thrash was retired from Hi-Brand Foods of Peachtree City after 35 years of service. His hobbies included hunting, gardening, feeding his dogs and playing with his grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held today, Oct. 12, at 1 p.m. at Rocky Mount Bethel Baptist Church at Luthersville with the Rev. Kenneth Curtis, pastor and the Rev. Johnny Strickland, pastor of Piney Grove Baptist Church, eulogist. His body will lie in state from 11:30 a.m. until the hour of the service.

A funeral for Mrs. Virginia Anne McCutchen Guice, 88, was held Sunday, October 6, 2002 at 6 p.m. in the chapel of Tom Stutts and Son Funenral Home in Franklin, Ga. with the Rev. Rick McMahan officiating.
Pallbearers were Thomas Lipford, Kyle Tompkins, John Oswald, Tom Awbrey, Talmadge Davis and Thomas Miller. Burial was in the Franklin City Cemetery.
Mrs. Guice was born in Heard County, Ga. Sept. 11, 1914 to the late Pleasant Theodore McCutchen and Annie Katharine Hardy McCutchen. She was also preceded in death by her husband William Stuart Guice Jr. She was a member of Northside United Methodist Church in Atlanta, Ga.
Mrs. Guice was retired from the Atlanta City School System where she was an elementary educator. Mrs. Guice was a graduate of Heard County High School and the Georgia State College for Women. She was a member of the Georgia Educators Association, the Atlanta Association of Educators, and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a loving mother and grandmother.

Miss Nichole Pace, 17, of Senoia, died October 8, 2002 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
She was born April 19, 1985 in Fulton County, Ga. She was a senior at Central Educational Center in Newnan and a member of Alvaton Baptist Church.

Mr. Bill Frank Powell Sr., 82, of Albany, Ga., died Saturday, October 5, 2002.
A funeral was held at Central Baptist Church in Albany with burial in Crown Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Edd Spurlock was officiating.
A native of Newnan, Ga., Mr. Powell had lived in Albany for the past 38 years. He was a member of Central Baptist Church and the Crusaders Sunday School Class. He was in building maintenance at the church for 17 years. A veteran of World War II, Mr. Powell served in the United States Army. He was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes D. Powell.

Mr. James Perry Hill, 88, of Armuchee Road, Subligna, Ga., died Monday, October 7, 2002 at his residence.
Mr. Hill was born June 8, 1914 in Subligna, Ga., son of the late Tom and Ida Green Hill. He was a member of the Subligna Baptist Church, the Masonic Cherokee Lodge #66 F&AM, branch manager for Battey Machinery Company in Dalton, Ga., a member of the Board of Trustees of the Subligna Methodist Church, and was a veteran of the U.S. Merchant Marines having served in World War II.
Surviving are his wife to whom he was married for 65 years, Mattie Phillips Hill; sons and daughter-in-law, James Carey Hill, Ellijay, Ga., Steve and Robin Hill of Newnan, Ga.; daughter, Jennifer Ruth Eddings of Rome, Ga.; grandchildren, Zack Hill, Sara Hill, Erin Eddings and Laura Eddings.

Mr. Clinton "Clint" Dean Malcolm, 40, of Rock Hills, South Carolina, died Friday, October 4, 2002.
He was a native of Atlanta, Ga. and was a self-employed finishing carpenter. He was the son of Margaret Reitzel Malcolm Robinson and the late Wiley David Malcolm.
Surviving in addition to his mother are his son, Clinton Derek Malcolm of Jackson, Ga.; brother, Clayton E. Mr. Willie Thomas of Wallace Gray Road, Newnan, died Friday, October 4, 2002 at Atlanta Medical Center, Atlanta, Ga.
A funeral will be Thursday, Oct. 10 at 1 p.m. at Sellers-Smith R. W. S. Memorial Chapel with Rev. G. B. Vaughn officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 7-9 p.m.
On the day of the service the cortege will assemble at the residence at noon.
Mr. Thomas was born in Macon, Ga., Feb. 15, 1916. He was married at an early age in Macon. They had one child, Charles Thomas. Both preceded him in death.
He moved to New York where he met and married Sarah Willoughby in July 1952. They had two children. He moved to Newnan after he retired with 30 years of service from Joe Mills Paper Company, and later joined Newnan Chapel United Methodist Church in August 1993 where he attended until his health failed. He and his wife celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary July 24, 2002 with family and friends.
Surviving are his wife, Sarah Thomas; children, Vanessa Turner (Milton); son, Bruce Thomas (Tammy); grandchildren, Lytisha Stephens, Ryan Thomas, Chelsea Thomas, Joshua Thomas, Ion Thomas, Michelle Thomas, Theresa Thomas, Donald Thomas, Keith Thomas, Mark Thomas; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Millie and Rose Marie; two sisters-in-law, Emogene and Pearl; two brothers-in-law, Daniel and Clifford; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
