Dr. Anne Carrington-Gawne, 45, of Peachtree City, Ga., died December 15, 2002 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Atlanta.

She was a physical medicine and rehabilitation physician and was well known for her involvement and research with Polio Survivors. She was a member of the Active Medical Staff at the Roosevelt Warm Springs Institute for Rehabilitation.

A memorial service will be held Monday, Dec. 23 at 2 p.m. in the Roosevelt Hall Auditorium at Roosevelt Institute in Warm Springs, Ga. Burial will be in the Chattanooga National Cemetery in Chattanooga, TN at a later date.

Surviving are her husband, Tim Gawne; son, Andrew John Gawne; daughter, Elizabeth Anne Gawne, all of Peachtree City; father, Robert Avery Carrington of CA; mother, Jeanne Currington of Seattle, WA; and brother, Jim Carrington of CA.

Mrs. Betty Ann Phillips
Mrs. Betty Ann Phillips, 68, of Newnan, Ga., died December 18, 2002 at her residence.

Mrs. Phillips was born October 28, 1934 in Wooster, Ohio to R. B. and Ida (Howard) Ickes. She was a homemaker and volunteer Pink Lady at Southern Regional Medical Center and Emory Peachtree Regional Hospital. She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church where she was Sunday School teacher of the Joy Class.

Visitation is Friday, Dec. 20 from 6-9 p.m. at Higgins Hillcrest Chapel in Newnan.

A funeral will be at Macedonia Baptist Church Saturday, Dec. 21 at 3 p.m. The remains will be placed in state at 2:30 p.m. The Rev. John Riley and the Rev. Searcy Jackson will officiate. Burial will be in Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery.

Surviving are her husband, Homer Phillips; sons, Homer D. Phillips of Acworth, Edward Luther Phillips II (Kay) of McDonough; daughters, Lois D. Phillips of Lawrenceville, Lori D. Anderson (Harvey) of Ohio; two brothers; two sisters; nine grandchildren.

Mr. Joseph Harold Eidson
Mr. Joseph Harold Eidson died Tuesday, December 17, 2002 at his daughter's home in the community of Goodes near Palmetto, Ga. where he had lived all of his 88 years.

He was preceded in death by his son, Marvin Edward Eidson, in 1991.

Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Hattie Shell Eidson; and daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Kent Stephens, all of Palmetto; grandson, Joseph Eidson of Newnan.

Mr. Eidson was a farmer and carpenter by trade and built many beautiful homes with the help of his son and nephew, including the home he and his wife lived in for 54 years. He was a dedicated Christian and hard worker in his church. He also loved gospel muic and enjoyed singing in church and at other gatherings with his daughter, brother and other friends. He loved people, never met a stranger and had a wonderful sense of humor and a gentle loving spirit.

A funeral will be Friday, Dec. 20 at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Parrott Funeral Home. Rev. Tom Gullatt and Pastor Jenny Davis will officiate. Burial will be in New Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the New Hope United Methodist Church Building Fund, Atlanta-Newnan Road, Palmetto, Ga. 30268.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hettie Crowell Gross, 101, formerly of Leisure Living in the LaGrange area, died Tuesday, December 17, 2002 at Twin Fountains Nursing Home.

She was born June 3, 1901 in Meriwether County, Ga., to William Arnold and Sarah Anna Bell Murphy Crowell. She had lived in the LaGrange area since 1923. She retired from Southern Bell Telephone Company with 41 years of service. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, the Pink Lady Auxiliary and the Telephone Pioneer Organization.

A funeral will be Friday, Dec. 20 at 2 p.m. at graveside in Shadowlawn Cemetery with Dr. Harry Daniel officiating.

Surviving are four nieces and their spouses: Jean and Jim Windom of Grantville, Ga., Janet and Burt Smith of Newnan, Betty and Frank Hanner of Springfield, TN, and Agnes and Clyde Brown of LaGrange, Ga.; other nieces and nephews.

The family requests that flowers be omitted and contributions made to your favorite charity in memory of Mrs. Gross.

Mr. Nicholas F. Maloof Sr.
East Providence, RI -- Mr. Nicholas F. Maloof Sr., 86, of 316 Greenwood Ave., Rumford, a retired glass worker, died Tuesday, December 17, 2002 at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center of Home and Hospice Care of Rhode Island, in Providence, RI.

He was the husband of the late Rita A. (Lynch) Maloof. Born in Warren on May 25, 1916, a son of the late Fadel and Annie (Boulice) Maloof, he was a stepson of the late Gertrude (Connelly) Maloof. He had lived in Cumberland for many years before moving to Leesburg, Fla., 25 years ago, and had lived in East Providence, RI for the past 5 years.

He was a 1934 graduate of St. Raphael Academy, Pawtucket.

Mr. Maloof had worked at the former Corning Glass Works Co. plant in Central Falls for many years before retiring 25 years ago. An Army veteran of World War II, he served in Asia and the Pacific. Mr. Maloof had coached several youth baseball teams in Cumberland.

In Leesburg, he had been active in the ministry of St. Paul's Church and had been a member of the church's Project Hope.

Surviving are five sons, Nicholas F. "Nick" Maloof Jr. of Moreland, Ga., Ronald Maloof of Smithfield, Joseph Maloof of Freedom, N.H., Raymond Maloof of Pawtucket and David Maloof of Gainesville, Fla.; four daughters, Rita Owens and Evelyn Keene, both of Rumford, Margaret House of Limerick, Pa., and Mary Roberts of St. Paul, Minn.; a brother, George Maloof, and a sister, Halony Maloof, both of Leesburg; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was a brother of the late Joseph Maloof.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Margaret Church, Pawtucket Avenue. Burial will be private.

Mrs. Dorothy H. Payne
Mrs. Dorothy H. Payne, 80, of Senoia, Ga., formerly of Palmetto, Ga., died at Portsbridge Hospice Center in Riverdale, Ga. Monday, December 16, 2002 after an extended illness.

Mrs. Payne was born in Atlanta to T. A. and Rose Howard. After finishing school, she began her career with the Federal Government and worked in the Department of Transportation, Department of the Army, and the Department of Agriculture before her retirement in 1977 after 44 years of service. After her retirement, she spent her life enjoying her family and friends and was very active at the Palmetto Senior Citizens Center. She will be remembered as a loving, devoted mother and good friend.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 25 years at his death, Mr. Harold Payne; and a daughter, Cynthia P. Daniel.

Surviving are daughter, Claudia Kunin of Senoia, Ga.; sister, Kitty Turner of Newnan, Ga.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at Ramah Baptist Church in Palmetto, Ga. at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002 with the Rev. Ralph Bobo officiating.

Mr. Melvin B. Arnold of College Park, formerly of Newnan, will be remembered at a funeral Thursday, Dec. 19 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Roscoe Jenkins Funeral Home.

Bishop Shirley Wright Colton will deliver the eulogy. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Shenandoah. Family friends will serve as pallbearers.

Mr. Arnold was born Jan. 1, 1918 in Coweta County to the late J. W. and Mary Lizzie Arnold and died Dec. 16, 2002 at South Fulton Medical Center in East Point, Ga.

Three brothers preceded him in death, Arthur J., John Harvey and Warner (Cooter) Arnold.

He served in the Armed Forces for five and a half years and was employed by the City of Palmetto for a number of years.

Surviving are brothers, Willie (Irvin) Arnold, College Park, Robert Arnold of Alabama; special friend, Clara Ann; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Margaret Blalock, 84, of Grantville, Ga., died Saturday, December 14, 2002 at the Fairburn Health Care Center.

Miss Jackie Garner, 39, died December 16, 2002 at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange, Ga.

She was born in Coweta County January 18, 1963, daughter of Doris Cannon of Newnan and Arlin Garner of North Carolina. She worked in patient care at Beaulieu Convalescent Center in Newnan. She was preceded in death by an uncle, John Garner; grandmother, Della Gilley; and grandparent Forest and Eva Garner.

Visitation is Wednesday, Dec. 18 from 6-9 p.m. at Higgins and Hillcrest Chapel Funeral Home in Newnan.

A funeral is at Higgins at Hillcrest Chapel Thursday, Dec. 19 at 11 a.m. Rev. Milton Hall will officiate. Burial will be in Cross Plains Baptist Church Cemetery.

Surviving are mother, Doris Cannon of Newnan; father, Arlin Garner of North Carolina; aunt, Ruby Garner of Franklin; aunt and uncle, Jewell and Pek Hammett of Hogansville, Ga.; uncle, James Gilley; fiancee, Marcus Folds of Hogansville.

Mr. John W. Music, 64, of Grantville, Ga., died Monday, December 16, 2002 at his home.

A funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 19 at the Lighthouse Tabernacle of Jesus Christ in Hogansville. The Rev. Robert Longshore and the Rev. David Simmons will officiate, and burial will be in St. Paul's Church Cemetery in Whitesburg.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home 7-9 Wednesday night.

Mr. Music was born March 4, 1938 in Douglasville, son of John James Music and Ora Molana Johnsa Music. A resident of the Atlanta area most of his life, he lived at Lake Sinclair for six years before making his home in Grantville earlier this year. He served as an Army Green Beret in the Korean War and the Vietnam Conflict and was retired from SACO Systems in Suwanee. He was a member of the Lighthouse Tabernacle of Jesus Christ.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley Wilder Music of Grantville; one daughter, Teresa Tripp of Buford; three sons, John William Music Jr. of Macon, Danny James Music of Newnan, and Ronnie Ross of Griffin; two step-daughters, Debra Walton of Forest Park and Tina Brickey of Ligionier Ind.; three step-sons, Buddy Wilder of Grantville, Scott Wilder of Newnan, and Billy Wilder of Forest Park; three sisters, Margie Snowden of Jonesboro, Eula Lee Nix of Forest Park, and Mildred Bryson of Social Circle; brother, Mac Braswell of Whitesburg; 29 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Brenda Watts.

Mr. Shaun Mitchell Bennett, 23, of Newnan, Ga., formerly of Luthersville, Ga., died Saturday, December 14, 2002.

Mr. Bennett worked with the kitchen staff at Ruby Tuesday's in Newnan.

Surviving are his parents, Ralph and Donna Bennett Jr.; brothers, Jayson Bennett and Stacy Bennett; maternal grandparents, Welborn and Sarah Askew; paternal grandparents, Ralph and Helen Bennett.

Maj/Ret USAF Richard James Corbett, 81, of Newnan, Ga., died Sunday, December 15, 2002 at his residence.

Mr. Corbett was born October 15, 1921 in Miller, SD. He was a retired as a fighter pilot in the United States Air Force.

A funeral will be Thursday, Dec. 19 at 2 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home. An Air Force chaplain will officiate.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Audrey Corbett; daughters, Mrs. Greg Mansour of Newnan, Mrs. Martin Walter of Houston, Texas, and Ms. Stacey Corbett of Phoenix, AR; sons, Richard C. Corbett of Burke, Virginia, and Alan Corbett of Kansas City, MO; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was born November 25, 1933 in Noble County, OH.

Burial will be at Riverside National Cemetery, March Air Force Base, CA.

Mrs. Smith was born July 4, 1917 in Georgia. She worked in the clerical field with Sears Roebuck and Co.

A funeral service for Mr. Aurthur Lee Jackson, Jr., 62, of Newnan, will be held Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Roscoe Jenkins Funeral Home.

The Rev. H.A. Bowles will officiate, and burial will be in the Smith Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. Family friends will serve as pallbearers.

Mr. Jackson was born June 5, 1940, in Newnan, to the late Aurthur Jackson.,Sr., and Aveola Melson Jackson.

Mr. Jackson served in Job Corps and worked as a ceramic tile mason until his retirement. He was a member of the Faith Tabernacle Holiness Church, and married Jeannette Jackson in 1993.

Surviving are his wife; step-children Annette Hunter and Gary Hunter of Newnan, and Richard Hunter of Dayton; brothers and sisters-in-law Eddie Lee and Claudia Hunter, Willie Lee and Essie Jackson, Henderson Jackson, and Ike Jackson, all of Cincinnati, Ohio; god-sister Vivian Wilson and her husband Theron; god-brothers Randy Lay and his wife Emma of Franklin and Harvey Lay, Jr., of Newnan; and a host of in-laws, grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Mr. Aubrey Nathaniel McClain, 87, of Newnan, died Friday, Dec. 13, 2002, at his home.

Mr. McClain was born March 2, 1915, in Winston, Ala. He was retired from Douglas Lomason.

A funeral will be held Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home. The Rev. Steve Fronze will officiate.

Mrs. Myrtle Doris Pitts
Mrs. Myrtle Doris Pitts, 72, of Newnan, died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002, at Emory Peachtree Regional Hospital, after an extended illness.

A Coweta native, Mrs. Pitts was the daughter of the late Harvey and Lessie Lucile Dingler, and was known as Doris to all her many friends.

Mrs. Pitts worked for the Coweta-Fayette EMC and retired several years ago as a dispatcher. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Sylvan chapter 532 before she joined the Coweta Chapter 378 in 1963. Mrs. Pitts was also a member of the Sargent Baptist Church for more than 50 years. She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years, Erskine Ray Pitts. Sr., her brother, Harvey Dingler, Jr., and a sister, Linda Lou Burkeen.

A funeral will be held Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, at 1 p.m., with rites and honors from the Order of the Eastern Star. The Rev. Joe Bufford will officiate, and burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at Jones Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16.

Mrs. Eva Ruby Hancock, 93, of Wagers Mill Road, Newnan, died Friday at Avalon Healthcare and Rehabilitation.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at McKoon Funeral Home in Newnan with the Rev. Joe Bufford officiating. Burial will be in Oak hill Cemetery in Newnan. Great-grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

She was born in Georgia on July 6, 1909. She was a retired textile worker and a member of Sargent Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Dorothy Hancock of Newnan; grandchildren, Judy and Jimmy Tyson, Sherry and Dennis Dean, Cindy and Donnie White, Joey and Jan Truitt, Robin Daniel and Danny and Kathy Truitt.

Mr. Harry Lee Patrick
Mr. Harry Lee Patrick, 86, died Friday at his residence.

A native of Toccoa, Georgia, he was born Sept. 16, 1916 to the late Emerson George and Marie Rumsey Patrick.

Mr. Patrick served in the United States Navy from 1935 to 1939. He worked for The Georgia Power Company for 40 years. He retired as manager of Plant Wansley.

He was a member of the Civitan Club, Georgia Power Ambassadors and a long time member of First Baptist Church of Newnan.

Mr. Patrick is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Lois Patrick; a son, Robert Emerson Patrick, Sr. and his wife Emma Laura Barron Patrick; grandsons, Robert Emerson Patrick Jr., Michael Lee Patrick and Frank Yeadon Patrick; wives of the grandsons, Kelly Brown Patrick and Beth Richardson Patrick; great-grandchildren, Robert Emerson Patrick III, William Gunnar Patrick, Ann Kelly Patrick, Frank Yeadon Patrick, Jr., and Amelia Kathleen Patrick; a sister, Sara May Patrick and his nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, December 15 between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. with the funeral service being conducted at 4 p.m. by Dr. Gene Tyre, assisted by Frank Y. Patrick. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Mrs. Mary Dorothy Beckham
Mrs. Mary Dorothy Beckham, 63, of Sharpsburg, Ga., formerly of Fayetteville, Ga., died at Portsbridge Hospice Center Thursday evening, December 12, 2002 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Mrs. Beckham was born in Fayette County to Herman and Pauline Brown, where she grew up and attended school. She and her family moved to Sharpsburg in 1973 where she raised her family. As a homemaker, she devoted her life to her husband, children, and grandchildren and brought joy to everyone fortunate to know her.

The family was receiving friends at Jones Funeral Home 6-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13.

A funeral will be at graveside 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14 at Sharpsburg Baptist Church Cemetery on Highway 54 in Sharpsburg with Rev. Mike Ayers officiating.

A brother, Gerald Brown; and a sister, Ruby Powell, preceded her in death.

Surviving are her husband of 42 years, Mr. Bobby Beckham; son, Tim Beckham and his wife Lisa of Sharpsburg; two daughters, Sandra Brown and husband Gary of Luthersville, and Barbara Byrom and Husband Rodney of Moreland; sister, Martha Gwin of Fayetteville; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Mr. Jack Burns, a former resident of McDonough, Ga., now of Dunedin, Fla., will be remembered at a funeral Tuesday, December 17, 2002 at 2 p.m. at Higgins Hillcrest Chapel Funeral Home in Newnan. Burial will be at 3:30 in Forest Hills Memorial Gardens in Forest Park, Ga.

He is a veteran of World War II and served in the United States Marine Corps. Mr. Burns participated in two separate beach landings during the war.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Burns of Dunedin; children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other family members.

The family will receive friends Monday afternoon from 3-6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Ronald Derring
Mr. Ronald Derring of Newnan, Ga., died December 10, 2002.

He was born in Newnan September 15, 1962 to Bobby and Annie Kate Derring. He joined Dent Chapel A.M.E. Church and accepted Christ at an early age. He was blessed with a musical talent and served God as a musician in various churches.

A funeral was Friday, Dec. 13 at 11 a.m. at Dent Chapel A.M.E. Church. Rev. Azell Warner, eulogist. Burial in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were Bob Geter, Roger Geter, Leroy Geter Jr., Gregory Geter, Tony Derring and Jackie Clerk.

Mr. Robert W. Sutton Jr., 73, of 77 Hall Dr., Newnan, Ga., husband of Mrs. Annie Ruth Sutton, son of the Rev. and Mrs. R. W. Sutton Sr., died December 11, 2002 at Newnan Hospital.

A funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Powell Chapel United Methodist Church, Old Atlanta Highway, Newnan, Ga., with the remains placed in state at 1 p.m. The Rev. J. P. Geter, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Sutton was born October 26, 1929 in Coweta County, Newnan, Ga. He was the first born of Robert W. and Elizabeth Huling Sutton. He is preceded in death by a brother, James Sutton, two sons and one daughter.

Junior was a member of Powell Chapel United Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War and was released with an honorable discharge. He graduated from the former Warner High School in Newnan with honors. He was an outstanding athlete. Junior had many gifts. He was a barber, free lance photographer, marksman, artist, comedian (no one could describe and act out each character in a skit quite like Junior) and cook. He retired from James River Corporation after 28 years of service. He married Annie Ruth Wood May 17, 1952 and they had ten children. He is preceded in death by two sons, Allen Jerome Sutton and Reginald Sutton; and one daughter, Patricia Anne Sutton Parks.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Annie Ruth Sutton; children, Michael Sutton, Esther Elizabeth (Rev. Henry Jr.) Teagle, Robert W. Stutton III, John Leonard (Tracy) Sutton, Stanley (Sharon) Sutton, William G. (LaSonja) Sutton and Levi Douglas (fiancee, Kim) Sutton; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; parents, Rev. and Mrs. R. W. Sutton Sr.; mother-in-law, Mrs. Esther Wood; two brothers, David (Lizzie) Sutton and Jeffery (Janice) Sutton; two sisters, Annie (Felton) Ransby and Bernice Poythress; two uncles, Willie (Mattie Mae) Huling and Leonard (Velma) Huling Jr.; aunt, Rose Vanlowe; one great aunt, Mattie Buggs; brother-in-law, J. C. (Suzette) Wood; sisters-in-law, Velma Sutton, Leila Clay and Lucile McCombs, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mr. Elton Burton Lanier, 98, of Shoal Creek, Sharpsburg, Ga., died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002 at Newnan Hospital.

Mr. Lanier was born September 23, 1904 in Nashville, Tenn. He worked as head teller with the First National Bank of Atlanta and was owner of Lanier Piano Co. in westend Atlanta and retired from there when he was 70 years old. He was also a Shriner.

Visitation was at McKoon Funeral Home Thursday, Dec. 12 from 6-8 p.m.

A funeral will be Friday, Dec. 13 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Gary Parrish officiating. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery, 1680 Westview Drive, Atlanta.

Surviving are daughter, Jane L. Milam of East Point, Ga.; son, Burt Lanier Jr. of Lilburn, Ga.; sisters, Beatrice Sanders of Atlanta, Ga., and Carolyn Allen of Dayton, Fla.; grandchildren, Lanny Milam, Donna Hudson, Jodi Waller, Michael Lanier; five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Martha Chappell Massengale, 86, of Greenville, Ga., died Wednesday, December 11, 2002 at her home.

A funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13 at graveside in the Greenville Cemetery, with the Rev. Jonathan Porter officiating.

Mrs. Massengale was born February 22, 1916 in Coweta County, daughter of the late Aaron and Lucy Wilson Chappell. She lived in Meriwether County most of her life, was a member of Union Baptist Church in the St. Marks Community, and was retired from West Point Pepperell Manufacturing Co. in LaGrange. She was the wife of the late Aubrey H. Massengale.

Surviving are daughter, Mrs. Joanne Kennedy of Columbus; step-brother, Aaron Young of Newnan; three grandchildren, Bert Kennedy of Louisville, Kentucky, Mrs. Suzanne Hanley of Columbus, and Mrs. Sally Young of Moreland; six great-grandchildren, Scottie Hanley, Michale Hanley, Gray Hanley, all of Columbus, Rebekah Young, Sarah Beth Young, and John David Young, all of Moreland; two step-great-grandchildren, Robert Young and Jane Young, both of Selfridge, Michigan.

Mrs. Fannie L. Carter Newell died Tuesday, December 10, 2002 at Newnan Hospital.

A funeral will be Saturday, Dec. 14 at 1 p.m. at Zion Hill Baptist Church, 87 Pinson St. Rev. W. J. Johnson, pastor, officiating, assisted by Rev. Moses Woodruff, Rev. J. T. Coleman, Rev. Robert Stuton. The body will lie in state at the church from 11:30 a.m. until the hour of the service. Burial in Eastview Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be grandsons. Flower bearers will be granddaughters. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 6-7:30 p.m. On the day of the service the cortege will assemble at the funeral home at noon.

Mrs. Newell was one of 16 children born to the late Rev. Roland Ernest Perry Carter and Fannie Lou Carter. She married Alton Newell Sr. and they had six children. Ten of her siblings preceded her in death, as well as her husband and her son, Ronnie Newell.

Fannie was best known for three things, her love of God, her love of her family and her love for cooking. Everyone would flock to Newell's Restaurant for potato pies and home cooked meals. When you would come she would be ready with a smile and a word to make you feel better. Until her illness she was a faithful member of Zion Hill Baptist Church.

Surviving are children, Kenneth and his wife Juanda, Odessa Newell Hill (Ralph), Alton (Bernice), Patricia Newell Satterwhite, Ricky (Patrice); daughter-in-law, Frances Morgan Newell; brothers, J. C. Carter, Clarence Carter; sisters, Ada Lee Wright (Allen), Addie Bell Couch, Emmie Wheat; 18 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mrs. Fannie Pearl Evans Prather, Murray Street, Newnan, died Wednesday, December 11, 2002 at Georgia Baptist Hospital in Meriwether County.

A funeral will be Saturday, Dec. 14 at 2 p.m. at St. John Baptist Church, Shenandoah, Ga., with Rev. Harvey Peek, pastor, and Patricia Arnold, eulogist.

The remains will lie in state at the church from12:30 p.m. until the hour of the service. Burial in Eastview Cemetery. Pallbearers and flower ladies will be family and friends.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 7-8 p.m.

On the day of the service the cortege will assemble at the home of her mother, Fannie Mae Sinkfield, 14 Berry Ave., Newnan.

Mrs. Prather was born Feb. 17, 1958 to the late Charlie A. Evans and Fannie Mae Evans Sinkfield. Her stepfather was Clearance Sinkfield. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Charlie and Bryson Evans.

Mr. Joel A. Robbins, 78, of Newnan, died Thursday, December 12, 2002. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Marine Corps. He was wounded in battle and received a Purple Heart. He was an attorney for the federal government before retiring.

A funeral with military honors will be Saturday, Dec. 14 at graveside in Oak Hill Cemetery. Dr. Joel Richardson will officiate.

The family will receive friends Friday, Dec. 13 from 7-8:30 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home.

She was born December 8, 1920 in Fulton County, Georgia, daughter of Francis Burger and Annie Mae Martin. She was a homemaker and an active member of the Senior Citizens' Group of Coweta County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wiley J. Scott.

Visitation will be Friday, Dec. 13 from 5-8 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home.

A funeral will be Saturday, Dec. 14 at 2 p.m. at McKoon chapel with the Rev. Scott Kidd and Rev. Steve Fetkenhour officiating. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery in Moreland, Ga.

Surviving are daughter, Patricia and Sonny Ellis of Newnan; son, Glen and Ann Blackley of Cedartown, Ga.; brother, Frank Burger of Wichita, Kan.; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Inez Head, 81, formerly of Meriwether County, died Thursday, December 5, 2002 at her home in Atlanta.

A funeral will be Thursday, December 12, 2002 at 2 p.m. at the Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Luthersville, Ga. Rev. Clifford Black will officiate as eulogist, along with pastor the Rev. C. Jimerson. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Head was born March 12, 1921, in Coweta County to the late Leandra Coverson. She joined the Mt. Perria Baptist Church at an early age where she served faithfully until her health failed.

She was preceded in death by her mother; two brothers, Willie H. Coverson and Harrison Coverson; and two sisters, Mrs. Cindy Brown and Miss Lucille Coverson.

Surviving are brother, Mr. and Mrs. Willie Amos Coverson (Sarah); four sisters, Mr. and Mrs. Ector Sewell (Luria) Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Williams (Mattie), Mr. and Mr. Willie Goerge Reese (Charlie Mae), Mr. and Mrs. Willie Grady Dean (Martha Louise) and a devoted and loving second cousin, Louise Arnold; uncle, Mr. Robert Stevens; aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Anderson Porter (Betty); two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Bessie Coverson and Mrs. Lydia Coverson; a host of other nieces, nephews, family and friends.
