Mr. Gary Leon Hump, 58,
died Monday Nov. 15, 2004 at the Medical College of Georgia.
A memorial service will be held 5 p.m. today, Wednesday, Nov. 17, at the DeLoach-Kennedy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Dixon officiating.
Mr. Hump was employed by Mavis Brothers Construction for 12 years. He was born in Kingsland, Fla., and spent most of his life in Burke County.
He is survived by a son, Daniel Willis, a daughter, Jenny Battles, former wife, Donna Brookins, father-in-law, Raymond Brookins, and wife Rosa, all of Sardis. He is also survived by Edna Sue Hump of Hickory, NC.
Arrangements by DeLoach-Kennedy Funeral Home, 842 Liberty St., Waynesboro, Ga., (706) 554-3531.

Mr. Willie Blockett of Sardis
entered into rest on Thursday Nov. 11, 2004 at Southeast Georgia Medical Center.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, Nov. 17, at Carter’s Mortuary. Interment will be at Proctor Cemetery. He was the son of the late Clarence and Gussie Blockett.

Deanna Taylor Foster, 36,
of Macon entered into rest Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004.
Her funeral was held 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19, at Riverside United Methodist Church with the Revs. Sonny Mason and Matthew Shryock officiating.
Burial followed in Riverside Cemetary.

Mrs. Foster attended Mercer University and graduated from the University of Georgia School of Pharmacy. She was a very active member of Riverside United Methodist Church where she served as children’s coordinator and youth counselor and was a member of the administrative board, the BBC Sunday School class and Sojourner’s Circle and coordinated the Drive-thru Nativity. She was also a member of Heart of Georgia Emmaus Community. Mrs. Foster worked as a pharmacist for 13 years at various retail and institutional pharmacies and was an active parent at Springdale Elementary School.
Survivors include her husband, Raymond J. Foster of Macon; daughter, Heather Brooke Foster; father and mother, William Dennis and Betty Taylor of Waynesboro; brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Dennis and Jenny Taylor of Dublin; sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Ricky Mock of Social Circle; sister-in-law, Rhonda Williams of Macon; several nephews; and one niece.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Riverside United Methodist Church, 735 Pierce Ave., Macon, GA 31204.
Hart’s Mortuary in Macon has charge of the arrangements.

Dr. William Conner McCormick, 84,

of Tifton died Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004 at Tift Regional Medical Center.
His funeral was 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 23, at First United Methodist Church, Tifton, with the Revs. Jerry Lillard and Jay Roberson officiating. Dr. McCormick was born July 24, 1920 in Fort White, Fla. He was the son of the late Joel and Nettie McCormick.
In 1942 Dr. McCormick received a bachelor of science degree from the University of Florida, and in 1947, he received a master of science degree from Kansas State University. He was awarded his Ph.D. from Texas A & M in 1954.

He began his professional career at the North Florida Experiment Station in Quincy, Fla., in 1942. After moving to Tifton in 1945, he began his employment with Coastal Plain Experiment Station. During his tenure there he was the head of the Animal Science Department, serving in this capacity for 16 years.

Dr. McCormick retired in 1986 as the associate director of the Georgia Agriculture Experiment Station and resident director of the station. In his 44 years of employment at the Experiment Station, he was the recipient of numerous awards.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Thrasher McCormick of Tifton; three daughters, Ann (Don) Schutt and Julia (Bob) McKissack, all of Valdosta, and Carol (Preston) Lewis of Waynesboro; one brother, Wallace McCormick of Live Oak, Fla.; three sisters, Avaree Evans of Jacksonville, Fla., Odelle Kinat of Clermont, Fla. and Kathleen Dunagan of Pensacola, Fla.; and three grandchildren, Conner and Laura McKissack of Valdosta and Kitty Lewis of Waynesboro.

Oren Daniel Lunsford, 85,
entered into rest Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004 at University Hospital.
A memorial service was held 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 21, at St. Andrews Cemetery in Darien with the Rev. Ron Register officiating.

Mr. Lunsford was a retired teacher and chief financial officer of the Glenn County Board of Education. He also served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and was a member of Darien United Methodist Church.

Mr. Lunsford was preceded in death by his wife, Dr. Milburn B. Lunsford.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews. He will be missed dearly by friends and family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Dr. Milburn B. Lunsford Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 454, Darian, GA 31305.

Vincent L. Bernard, 90,
of Midville and formerly of Cedar Falls, Iowa, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004 at University Hospital. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Internment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
Survivors include a son, Dennis Bernard of Waynesboro.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Patrick Catholic Church.
Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Martha Dean Mulkey Chick, 72,
of West Palm Beach, Fla, died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2004 at a local hospice center in West Palm Beach after an extended illness. Visitation and funeral services were held 11 a.m.-12 p.m.Tuesday, Nov. 23, at Crowe-Fields Funeral Home. Burial was in the Millen Cemetery.

Chick was a native of Sardis and had lived in West Palm Beach for 51 years. She was a retired medical technologist for the State of Florida Health Services and was a member of First Baptist Church of West Palm Beach. Survivors include her sister, Kathryn Mulkey Bridges of Martinez; a nephew, James Thomas Bridges of Tucson, Ariz.; and a stepson, Michael William Close of West Palm Beach.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Hospice of Palm Beach County, 5300 East Ave., West Palm Beach, FL 33407.

Mike Gilchrist Jr.
entered into rest Sunday, Nov. 21, 2004 at University Hospital.
Funeral services will be held noon Friday, Nov. 26, at Gordon Hill Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Berry Rogers officiating. Internment will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Gilchrist was a life-long resident of Burke County and a veteran of World War II. He was a retired employee of Castleberry Food Company.

He was a member of McElmurray Spring Baptist Church where he served on the Deacon Board until his health failed. He was preceded in death by one son, Sylvester Gilchrist.
Survivors include his wife, Rosa Gilchrist of Hephzibah; four daughters, Coreatha (Charner) Henderson and Martha West of Hephzibah, Beatrice Gilchrist of Augusta and Lillie (Leonard) Vallery of Snellville; four sons, Mike (Francies) Gilchrist III and Jimmy (Anisa) Gilchrist of Hephzibah, Darian (Monica) Gilchrist of Augusta and Johnny (Gloria) Gilchrist of Suffolk, Va.; one sister, Beatrice Merriweather of Washington, Pa.; 18 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 25, at the funeral home.
Arrangements are being handled by Phinazee and Son Funeral Home.

Mr. Windell Johnson, 71,
of Collins, died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004 at St. Joseph Hospital in Savannah.
Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, in the chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home in Reidsville, with the Rev. Andrew Nelms officiating. Interment followed at the Little Flock Church Cemetery in Collins.

The Tattnall County native had lived in Loxahatchee, Fla. before moving back to Collins 35 years ago. The U.S. Navy veteran served in the Korean Conflict while stationed on the USS Wisconsin BB-64. He was retired from Georgia Pacific. He was a member of the USS Wisconsin Association and the Collins Full Gospel Tabernacle. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Lessie Johnson; son, Wayne Johnson; brother, George L. Johnson; and sisters, Miner Sparks, Vaska Lee Johnson and Sula Oliver.

Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife of 52 years, Anna Laura Jarriel Johnson of Collins; four daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Dennis Thompson and Debra and Danny Ray Collins, all of Cobbtown, Katherine and Todd Gromes of Claxton and Lavonna and Richard Drawdy of Waynesboro; a son, Samuel Johnson of Collins; four sisters, Onida Oliver, Cora Cobb, Bonnell Youmans and Faye Screen, all of Collins; a brother, Elvin Johnson of Collins; 18 grandchildren, Charity Hill, Adam Thompson, Paul Thompson, Sarah Thompson, Shannon Royal, Natasha Bashlor, Jennifer Johnson, DeWayne Collins, Hannah Collins, Lori Williams, Ashley Todd, Michelle Daley, Jennifer Drawdy, Jessica Drawdy, DeAnna Hudson, Blake Johnson, Alexis Johnson and Ethan Johnson; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Adam Thompson, Michael Bashlor, Grant Williams, DeWayne Collins, Jamie Royal, Michael Daley, Paul Thompson, Michael Hill and Blake Johnson. Honorary pallbearers were Gary Kennedy, Karon Jenkins, Larry Hightower, Don Oliver, Harold Thompson, Millard Williams, Hugh Davis, Tony Oliver, Randy Jenkins, Richard DeLoach, Eric Mack and Calvin Anderson. Memorials may be made to the Collins Full Gospel Tabernacle Building Fund, P.O. Box 469, Collins, GA. 30421. Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
