Graveside services for Margaret Cox Brown, 82, of Thomasville are at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, 2007, at Laurel Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Weyman Cleveland and Dr. Robert Rivers officiating. Mrs. Brown died Dec. 19 at her residence. Born Oct. 12, 1925, in Dooly County, she was the daughter of the late Fannie Lilly and J.E. Cox. She was a graduate of Georgia State College for Women and taught physical education in Plant City, Fla. On Aug. 9, 1952, she married Alexander Young Brown of Quitman who survives. In 1961, the family moved from Atlanta to Thomasville where she was a teaching assistant at Jerger Elementary School, a pink lady with Archbold Auxiliary, bloodmobile volunteer and a member of First Baptist Church. She will be remembered for her giving and caring nature that extended beyond her family to her many friends and loved-ones. Other survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Peggie Brown and Tony Abbott of Atlanta, Frances and Tom Wechsler of Decatur; son and daughter-in-law, Young and Barbara Brown Jr. of Statesboro; grandchildren Alex, Peter, Nick, and Krissy Wechsler, Alexander and Sarah Elizabeth Brown, Allie and Katie Abbott; nieces, Majel Rivers of Dyer, Ind., and Evelyn Strickland of Toccoa. Mrs. Brooks was a member of Richland Missionary Baptist Church. She died Dec. 17, 2007, at John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Supt. Paul Elzie Hayes Sr., 73, died Monday, Dec. 17, 2007, at Woodlands Living Center in Moultrie. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 22, at the St. Paul’s Temple Church of God in Christ in Coolidge, Ga., with Bishop Jack Stephens officiating. Burial will follow in the Strong Memorial Gardens. Bobby Cherry, Freddie Sanford, Wesley Hancock, Jimmy Heflin, M.D. Wilson and Gregory Robinson will serve as active pallbearers. Nephews and Brothers-in-law will serve as honorary pallbearers. He was born on May 12, 1934 to the late Tony Hayes and the late Hanna Thomas Hayes in Colquitt County. He was a minister at the St. Paul’s Temple Church of God in Christ, served on the Colquitt County EMC advisory Board, was state treasurer for Church of God in Christ, was administrative assistant to Bishop Jack Stephens, served for 30 years as state statistician for Southern Georgia Church of God in Christ, and served as Presiding Superintendent for the Valdosta District since 1967. He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers; and seven sisters. He is survived by his wife of many years, Eve Hayes of Moultrie; three sons, Randy Gene Hayes and wife Rosa of Fairburn, Ga., Elder Paul Hayes Jr. and wife Janice of Deltona, Fla., and Michael Maurice Hayes and wife Stacey of Charlotte, N.C.; a daughter, Vanessa H. Mr. Prosser was self-employed in new home construction and worked on many area plantation homes. He was a lifelong resident of Thomasville and a former member of Thomasville Exchange Club. He is survived by three daughters, Linda Kitchens, Peachtree City, Cathy Prosser, Orlando, Fla., Peggy Richards, Peachtree City; grandchildren, James Kitchens Jr., Winter Springs, Fla., Sam Kennedy, Max Kennedy, both of Peachtree City; and sister, Francis Annis, Warner Robins. She attended New Union School in Boston, a 1966 graduate of Howard Academy in Monticello, 1967 graduate of Walton Division of Thomas Technical School, 1975 graduate of Birdwood Junior College; and a 1977 graduate of Valdosta State College where she received her bachelor of science degree in nursing. She was a retired registered nurse. She was a member of Kelly Rose Temple No. 1005, Order of Eastern Star, American Legion Auxillary 519 and founder of the Socialite Club. She wore many hats in these organizations. In her church, she was church clerk and president of the Usher Board.
