B. Church, Valdosta will officiate, church pastor is the Rev. Kenneth L. Boyd Sr. and interment is in Springhill M. B. Church Cemetery. Mr. Johnson was born April 17, 1937, son of the late Mary Shiloh. He was a master carpenter, designing and creating his own style and touch to every job he encountered. Not only was Mr. Johnson unique, he was stylish, loving, gentle, funny, and well -spoken of by everyone he met. Survivors include his wife, Wanda Wilson of Thomasville; sons, J.W. Williams (Ann) of Camilla, Myron Wilson of Monticello, Fla., Darrell Johnson of Statesboro; daughters, Lynn Jones (Jimmy) of Norfolk, Va., Debra Jackson (Joe) of Camilla, Susan Dyson (Gregory) of Leesburg, Mary Johnson, Yvette Wilson both of Camilla, Nicara Mitchell of Thomasville; brothers, Jasper Sweat of Miami, Fla., Robert Johnson, Henderson Johnson, Roosevelt Johnson all of Camilla; sister, Susie Mae Johnson of Camilla; Assie Young of New Jersey; 24 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Gladys Pauline Hardwick Swindle
Services for Gladys Pauline Hardwick Swindle, Ochlocknee, are at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2007, at Ochlocknee United Methodist Church. The Rev. Mrs. Swindle died Monday, Nov. 19 at Camellia Gardens of Life Care. Born Oct. 5, 1913, in Houston Miss., she was a daughter of the late Gordon Hardwick and Alma Wilbanks Hardwick. In 1939, in Mississippi, she married James Herman Swindle who preceded her in death in 1984. She wa a graduate of Valdosta State College and wrote letters to the editor for many years to the Thomasville Times-Enterprise. She was a retired school teacher having taught more than 40 years in several places. She was a volunteer teacher for adult literacy in Mississippi and very active in Habitat for Humanity. She was a member of Ochlocknee United Methodist Church where she taught in the adult, children and youth Sunday school department and was a member of the adult choir for many years. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Wanda Gail Swindle Ricks and J.D. Ricks Jr. of Ochlocknee; two granddaughters, Katrina Ricks Brock (James Richard), Michelle Ricks Green (Alvin); a grandson, James Douglas Ricks III (Rozane) of Ochlocknee; great-grandchildren, Niki Smith, Bo Wainright, Whitney Wainright, Devon Green, Hannah Smith; great-great-grandchildren, Avigail Wainright and Ty Smith. Mr. Hopkins had lived in Thomasville for 54 years, having moved here from Tacoma, Wash. A Thomasville native, Mr. Hopkins was born March 18, 1946, a son of the late Lula Mae Beard (George) and Rev. Dr. John Hopkins (Bernita). He was married to the former Albertha Holmes Rainey. Mr. Hopkins was a member of Springhill Missionary Baptist Church in Thomasville. He attended Magnolia High School and graduated from Stadium High school in Tacoma. He is survived by his wife, Albertha Rainey Hopkins, Thomasville; father, Rev. Services for Jerry Alton Pilkinton, 71, of Leesburg, are at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2007, at Liberty Primitive Baptist Church in Smithville. A native of Thomas County, he had resided in Leesburg for the past 30 years moving from Albany. He had served in the National Guard, was a soil scientist retiring from the United States Department of Agriculture and a member of Liberty Primitive Baptist Church. Born Jan. 6, 1934, in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Clifford and Willie Mae Smith Gunter. She was married for 56 years to Elmer Ernest Bertschy who survives. Mrs. Bertschy worked for the Thomas County School System in the accounting department. Services for Bennett Elvin Warren, 88, of Coolidge, are at 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007, at Cobb Funeral Chapel in Moultrie. The Rev. Mike Keown, the Rev. Harold Pullen and Mr. Warren's grandchildren and great-grandchildren will officiate and interment follows in Big Ochlocknee Cemetery. Active pallbearers are Tommy Warren, Daniel Warren, Ferrell Warren, Bobby Warren, Randy Buckner, Jimmy Buckner and Ben Taylor Jr. Mr. Warren died Oct. 31. Born Jan. 7, 1919, in Wilcox County, he was the son of the late James Alec and Mattie Stewart Warren. He spent his life farming and was known for his master gardening skills. His family and friends also thought he should have been famous for his delicious barbecued rotisserie chickens that he loved to cook. Mr. Warren was an active member and deacon of Coolidge Memorial Baptist Church, where he also served as Sunday School secretary for many years. Born July 31, 1912, in Grady County, she was the daughter of the late Ira and Julie Mae Griffin Gainous. In December of 1928, she married James Odell Slappey, who preceded her in death on Nov. 2, 1981. She was a homemaker and a member of Ochlocknee Church of God.
