Services for Z.E. Norton, 70, Whigham, are at 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2007, at Eastside Baptist Church. He died Saturday, Oct. 20, at Grady General Hospital. Born Oct. 22, 1936, in Grady County, he was a son of the late Lonzo Laverne and Sarah Susan Keene Norton. He was retired from the construction business and was a member of Eastside Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Faye Gay Norton, Whigham, whom he married on April 11, 1957; sons and daughters-in-law, Tim and Melea Norton of Whigham, David and Melissa Norton of Sylvester; daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Juddy Womble of Whigham; sisters, Margaret Ouzts of Cairo, Carolyn Griffin of Cairo, Sarah Long of Cairo, Faye Ingram of Cairo, Betty Bearden of Cairo; brothers, Laverne Norton, Charlie Norton both of Cairo; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Jesse Bernard Ayers
Memorial services for Command Sgt. Maj. Jesse Bernard Ayers will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 29, 2005, at Cobb Funeral Chapel. Interment will be at Cobb Suncrest Memorial Gardens with military honors. The Rev. Dion Brown will officiate. Command Sgt. Maj. Ayers was born March 28, 1930, in Funston, Colquitt County, Ga. He was the first of three children born to Jesse Myles Ayers and Verdie Lorene Dunn Ayers. He spent his early life on farms in the Funston and New Bethel areas. He attended Baypole School before attending Moultrie High School. He studied business accounting at Southern Business University in Atlanta, Ga. He was a 27-year veteran of the United States Army, achieving the rank of command sgt. major, the highest non-commissioned officer rank available. He was a Vietnam War veteran, serving there in 1965. He also served one tour in Korea and two tours in Germany. He served at Walter Reed Medical Hospital and the Fort Detrick Chemical and Biological Warfare Research Facility. This facility was later converted to a cancer research center by President Nixon. He retired from the Army in May of 1975 to care for his father who had major medical problems. His father died in 1981 and Jesse and his wife, Virginia, continued to live in the new Bethel area until the present. He married Virginia Whitehouse in 1954. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Lindsey. He is survived by his wife, Virginia, of Meigs, Ga.; his sister, Cherie (Gordon Orme), of Utah; his son, Mark Anthony (Marcia), of Meigs, Ga.; and five grandchildren, Erin Brittni Ayers, Samuel Thomas Ayers, David Myles Ayers, Kaylyn Kennedy Ayers and Tanner Jesse Ayers, all of Meigs, Ga. Laval P. Trotter
Graveside services for Laval P. Trotter of Quitman will be at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2005 at Laurel Hill Cemetery on Tennessee Street. The Rev. Stephen Bradshaw will officiate. Mrs. Trotter died Aug. 27, 2005, at the Presbyterian Home in Quitman. Born April 26, 1927, in Grady County, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Henry Martin and Lula Elizabeth Boyett Peacock. On Nov. 29, 1958, in Brooks County, Ga., she married Willis Henry Trotter, who preceded her in death. She was a homemaker and attended services at the Presbyterian Home. Mrs. Trotter, with her husband, had previously owned a small country store near Boston, Ga. Before her marriage, she had worked at a children’s home and John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Dale and David Nacinovich, Karen and Tom Holt all of Thomasville; grandson, Stephen Thomas Holt; brother and sister-in-law, Charles Robert (Bob) and June Peacock of Seminole, Fla., and many nieces and nephews. Colin E. Winkelmann
Memorial services for Colin E. Winkelmann, 29, Greenville, N.C., were held Monday, Aug. 15, 2005, in Greenville and Thursday, Aug. 18, 2005, in Dayton, Ohio. Mr. Winkelmann died Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2005, at his residence in Greenville, N.C. Born in Columbus, Ohio, his passion, since age 11, was performing stunts on BMX bikes. At age 19, he turned pro and was best known throughout the BMX world as a rider that was willing to try any stunt, pushing the limits and opening minds to what’s possible on a bicycle. His legacy is well documented in BMX magazines, videos, on TV and in the Guinness Book of World Records. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Winkelmann. Survivors include his mother, Barbara E. Winkelmann of New Carlisle, Ohio; sister, Amy W. She loved her family dearly and will always be remembered by her smile, Christian countenance and her willingness to pray for others. Born Dec. 23, 1913 in Grady County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Oliver Lee and Goldie Faircloth Lee. In Nov. 9, 1935, she married Charles J. Rehberg who preceded her in death in 1996. A lifetime resident of Grady County, she was a member of Tired Creek Primitive Baptist Church and a homemaker. She volunteered as a gray lady at Grady General Hospital during the 1960’s. She was an active member of the Reno Community and was known by many friends as an avid gardener who especially enjoyed her day lilies. Dr. David Arthur Cullison
Services for Dr. David Arthur Cullison, Thomasville are at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005 at First United Methodist Church in Thomasville. The Rev. Burns Willis and the Rev. Bob Dixon will officiate and interment is in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Dr. Cullison died Aug. 24 as the result of heart failure. Born Sept. 29, 1946, in Auburn, Ala., he was the son of Arthur and Correnne Cullison. In 1950, the family moved to Athens, where he spent his formative years. After graduating from Athens High School in 1964, he attended the University of Georgia, earning bachelor of science and Ph.D. degrees in organic chemistry. He was selected as a fellow in research with the National Institute of Health while earning a post doctorate degree in organic chemistry at the University of Chicago. Following a position as a research chemist with Squibb Pharmaceuticals in Lawrenceville, N.J., he earned his medical degree through the Ph.D.-M.D. program at the medical school of the University of Miami. He was senior resident in dermatology at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta before moving to Thomasville in 1982 and opening his dermatology practice. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi academic fraternities and the Pi Kappa Phi social fraternity at the University of Georgia. He served his country honorably as a captain in the United States Army chemical corps. He found great pleasure in the joyous moments he shared with his children and seven grandchildren. He developed lasting friendships with many of over 7,000 patients he treated in his 23 years of practice. He loved the beauty of the north Georgia mountains and scenic boat rides at his home at Lake Santeetlah, N.C. An aficionado of 50’s doo-wop music, he took great pleasure in singing his favorites often at the expense of family members. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Cullison; daughter and son-in-law; Deborah and Chris; daughter, Catherine; son and daughter-in-law, David and Jakki; seven grandchildren, William, Preston, Christopher, Tyler, Evans, Mary Catherine, and Kendall, all of Thomasville; and his brother Joe Cullison of Macon. He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Cullison; his mother, Correnne Pence Cullison; and his sister, Diane Pence Cullison.
