Services for Alvenia Louise Simmons, 69, Atlanta and formerly of Thomasville, are at 2 p.m., Aug. 27, 2005 at Providence Missionary Baptist Church, Thomasville where she was a member. The Rev. Emory Virgil, church pastor, will officiate and interment is in Peaceful Rest Cemetery in Thomasville. Active pallbearers are Darrin Baker, Travis Baker, Terrence Childs, La’Roy Childs, A.J. Childs III, Bill L. Williams and Felix W. Davis. Honorary pallbearers are deacons of Providence M.B. Church. Miss Simmons died Aug. 20 in Atlanta. Born in Thomasville, she was a daughter of the late Leroy and Fannie Simmons. Survivors include a sister, Pauline Simmons Cone of Thomasville; brother-in-law, Samuel Cone of Thomasville; sisters, Vivian Childs, Carolyn Fogle both of Thomasville, Frances Smith of Columbus, Marion Hunter of Tallahassee, Fla., Jacqueline Simmons Chambers of Atlanta; brothers, Ernest Simmons of Atlanta, Bernard Simmons, Leo Smart both of Thomasville aunts, Inez Simmons of Thomasville, Mary Monroe of Miami, Fla.; brother-in-law, Michael Chambers of Atlanta; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pastor Addie Walker will officiate and interment is in Peaceful Rest Cemetery. Active pallbearers are grandsons. Mrs. Young died Aug. 24 at her residence. Born Sept. 7, 1923 in Thomasville, she was a daughter of the late Lizzie Kaye Williams. She was married to Frank Young Sr., who survives. She was a graduate of Albany State College and was retired from Flowers Bakery and Georgia Crate Co. Other survivors include daughters, Patricia Ann (Ramsey) Ford, Annette (Freddie) Gabriel, Barbara Davis, Virginia (Eddie Ray) Brinson all of Thomasville; sons, John Neloms, Eddie Neloms, Frank Young Jr., Kenneth Young all of Thomasville, Willie J. Revels of Miami, Fla., Ricky (Cathy) Young of Valdosta; daughters-in-law, Alice Mae Revels of Thomasville, Annie Burkes of West Palm Beach, Fla.; brother-in-law, Arthur Young of Thomasville; sister-in-law, Eula Williams of West Palm Beach; 60 grandchildren; 90 great-grandchildren; 36 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends. Mrs. Bulloch died Wednesday, Aug. 24 at Archbold Hospital. Born Jan. 13, 1927 in Ochlocknee, she was a daughter of the late James Scott Bulloch and Fairfax Foy Bulloch. She was a homemaker, member of Ochlocknee Baptist Church and had lived in Ochlocknee all her life. Survivors include several cousins. Cecilia (C.C.) Nicole Brooks Johnson

Services for Cecilia (C.C.) Nicole Brooks Johnson, Cairo, are at 10 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 25, 2005 at Heritage Funeral Home Chapel. Interment is in Pine Level Annex Cemetery. Mrs. Johnson died Aug. 20 in Peoria, Ill. She was born Oct. 23, 1972 in Thomasville. She attended school and lived most of her life in Cairo. She was a member of Pine Level Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Thomas James (T.J.) Johnson; children, Courtney Jane, Cody Jack, McKenzie Thunder, Paige Dakota Johnson all of Colchester, Ill.; mother and stepfather, Kathryn Dianne and Lee Monk; and in-laws, Billy and Kathy Jones all of Cairo. She was preceded in death by her father, Larry Wayne Brooks; brother, Joey Thursby; and grandparents, Charlie Wilburn and Odene Taylor Akridge. A fund has been established at Cairo Banking Company for her children. Checks should be made to Bereavement Fund for Johnson Children. Services for Ivey Malcolm Shepard of Boston are at 11 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 25, 2005 at Barwick Baptist Church where he was a member. The Rev. Mr. Shepard died Aug. 23 at Hospitality Care Nursing Home. Born April 30, 1930 in Sale City, he was the son of the late G. B. and Nora Sellars Shepard. On June 4, 1960 in Boston, he married Ruth Jarrard Shepard who survives. He was a retired master sergeant from the United States Air Force. Other survivors include daughters, Sherry Shepard of Bartow, Fla., Theresa Fallin of Thomasville; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Clark Gregory of Columbia, S.C.; son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Kim Shepard of Alpharetta; brothers, Edward Shepard of Thomasville, Winston Shepard of Sylvester, Charles Shepard of Thomasville; sister, Sue Hughes of Merrillville; grandchildren, Earl Fallin, Kelsey Gregory, Cole Gregory, Seth Gregory, Kayla Shepard, Brooke Shepard; great-grandchildren, Halen Fallin, Logan Fallin; and numerous nieces and nephews. Dewitt Phillips will officiate and interment is in Little Ochlocknee Cemetery. Mr. Rollins died Aug. 20 in Bainbridge. Born Nov. 22, 1935 in Thomas County, he was a son of the late Oland A. Rollins Sr. and Esther Tecoy Glover Rollins. He was a retired mechanic and landscaper. Survivors include two daughters, Deborah Cannon and husband, Edward of Palm Springs, Fla., Brenda Stogner and husband, Joseph of Bainbridge; a son, Robert Rollins and wife, Sherri of Bainbridge; seven grandchildren, John Ward, Amanda Cannon, Kevin Miller, Eric Miller, Jordan Stogner, Charles Rollins, Angelia Rollins; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ronald Rollins of Ochlocknee and Gene Pollock of Pelham. Graveside services for Harlowe Nell Stringer White, Thomasville, are at 9 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2005 at Pine Park Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. George Ehling will officiate. Mrs. White died Aug. 22, at Holly Hill Nursing Home in Valdosta. Born Feb. 20, 1922 in Grady County, she was the daughter of the late Charles Edgar Stringer Sr. and Ora Belle Bryant Stringer. Mrs. White was a member of First Baptist Church. She worked for Southern Bell during World War II in communications and liked gardening, fishing and was a homemaker. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Timothy H. White Sr. and Teri Hurst White of Thomasville; daughter and son-in-law, Susan White Futch and Thomas Allen Futch III of Valdosta; daughter-in-law, Kelly Harvey White of Thomasville; grandchildren, Jennifer White Ehling and husband, George Ehling, Timothy H. White II, Rachel White Hanson and husband, Jonathan Hanson, Dorothy Futch, John (Jay) F. White III, Mary Beth White; great-grandchildren, Matthew Ehling, Nathan Ehling, Mickey Hanson; and sister, Frances Stringer Lear of Jacksonville, Fla. She was preceded in death by a son, John F. Sandra J. VanAllen Paulson

Sandra J. VanAllen Paulson, at age 41, loving wife, daughter, sister and friend lost her courageous battle with cancer. Predeceased by her father in 2001, Robert VanAllen. She is survived by her husband, John Paulson of Boston, Ga.; her mother and stepfather, Laura and Kenneth Benjamin of Pigeon Forge, Tenn.; her brother, Raymond VanAllen of Troy, Ala.; her sister, Pam (Charlie) Salisbury of Rochester, N.Y.; her stepchildren, Summer Paulson of Clearwater Fla. and Jack Paulson of Boston, Ga. as well as three nieces, a nephew and an unborn grandson. Sandy loved life and loved sharing it with her many, many friends and family. We will truly miss her optimism, caring ways and sense of humor. We find comfort in knowing she is now at peace and “shopping” with the angels. A memorial service may be announced at a later date. Pallbearers are Eric Poole, Ryan Waters, Tre’ Waters, Carey Walden, Marcus Singletary and Josh Waters. Mrs. Waters died May 16 at her residence. Born April 18, 1909 in Grady County, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Jesse and Cora Lorene Barrett Holley. She was married to Charlie Milton Waters who preceded her in death. She was a member of First Christian Church and worked for Sunnyland Packing Co. in the lard department. Mrs. Waters was an avid gardener, fulltime mother and homemaker. Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Charles L. and Lou Waters of Bainbridge; daughter and son-in-law, Shirley W. and Edward Singletary of Cairo; sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph D. and Joyce Waters of Terrell, Texas; Dennis and Vicki Waters of Rincon, Maxwell L. and Sandra Waters of Thomasville; 17 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by brother, James Holley; sisters, Lorene Harrison, Hazel Norman, Thelma Griffin; and grandson, Justin Waters. Born Sept. 28, 1927 in Mitchell County, she was the daughter of the late James Luther and Harriett McMillan Wright. She was married to James Homer Connell who preceded her in death. Mrs. Connell was a homemaker. Graveside services for Ocena Dekle of Thomasville are at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 18, 2005 at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Keith Hill will officiate. Mrs. Dekle died May 16 at the Brian Center. Born June 25, 1916 in Thomas County, she was the daughter of the late Lee and Ruth Cone Duren. In 1937 she married Thomas N. Dekle who preceded her in death. She was retired from the Civil Defense as a communication supervisor. Survivors include a sister, Montine Brown of Thomas County; niece, Ocena Hasty of Deltona, Fla.; great-nephew, Chris Hasty of Deltona, Fl, great-nieces, Donna Sumner of Green Cove Spring, Fla. and Kim Hasty of Crescent City, Fla. The Rev. Curnell Henry and the Rev. Aaron Hopkins will officiate and interment is in Peaceful Rest Cemetery. Active pallbearers are members of Thomasville High School class of 1972. Dr. Gatlin died May 10 at his residence. Born Jan. 12, 1954 in Thomas County, he was a son of Carrie Thurman Gatlin and Otis Gatlin Sr. He was married to Valerie Vance of Virginia on May 17, 2003 in St. Petersburg, Fla. He is a 1972 graduate of Thomasville High School and graduated from the University of Iowa earning his bachelor of science degree in business, master of business administration degree and his doctorate of education degree. He served as an educational recruiter for the University of Iowa and joined Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. Survivors include his wife, Valerie V. Gatlin of Fredericksburg, Va.; daughter and her husband, Tanya Gaudet (Brian) of Iowa City, Iowa; sons, Jarrod Gatlin, Kennith Bernard Gatlin both of Iowa City; daughter, Teneesha Anderson of Dallas, Texas; son, Rajshad Anderson of Dallas; grandchildren, Jalen Gaudet and Avery Gaudet both of Iowa City; brother, Otis Gatlin Jr. of Thomasville; brother and his wife, Alfred Gatlin (Judy) of Thomasville; sister, Marie Spencer of Jacksonville, Fla.; sisters and their husbands, Phyllis Hill (Elijah) of Miami, Fla., Carastine Addison (David) of Vancouver, Canada, Anita Bacon (Eric) Norcross, Madeline Watts (Robert) of Jonesboro; uncles and aunts, Annie B. Gordon Cloud will officiate and interment is in Pine Park Baptist Church cemetery. Active pallbearers are deacons of the church and James Powell. Mr. Royals died Sunday, May 15 at Grady General Hospital in Cairo. Born Sept. 3, 1913 in Climax, he was a son of the late Lonnie Divine Royals Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Stevens Royals. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a farmer and member of Pine Park Baptist Church. Survivors include a sister, Edna R. Rev. M.K. Weaver

Services for the Rev. M.K. Weaver, 72, Fort Oglethorpe, are at 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 17, 2005 at East Ridge Church of the Nazarene. The Rev. Charles Knight, the Rev. Justin Nave, the Rev. Richard Reed and the Rev. Don Weaver will officiate. Interment is at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 18 at Lebanon Cemetery in Pavo. Active pallbearers are Bill Waldron, Smokey Bundey, George Varnell, Sam Stephenson, Harold Waldron, Dennis Kerley, Alan Anderson and Raymond DeClue. The family requests that pastors from the district and surrounding areas serve as honorary pallbearers. Rev. Weaver died Saturday, May 14 at his residence. He had served for more than 50 years in the ministries of the Church of the Nazarene as pastor, evangelist, district youth director and district advisory board member. He had been pastor of East Ridge Church of the Nazarene for 36 years, from December 1962 until December 1998. He had also pastored at Chapman’s Chapel Nazarene and Beulah’s Chapel Nazarene. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, mowing and raising and training horses. Survivors include his wife, Frankie Weaver of Fort Oglethorpe; sons, Klay and Leona Weaver of Ringgold, Kent and Karena Weaver of Idobe Sound, Fla.; stepson, Doug Weir of Ringgold; grandchildren, Kain, Kolt, Klyne, Kyle and Kage; sisters, Sue Chitty of Jacksonville, Fla., Judy Dalton, Barbara Floyd, Jean Hart all of Pavo; brother, Don Weaver of Pulaski, Va.; several nieces and nephews. - Cobb Funeral Chapel, Moultrie and Heritage Funeral Home, Fort Oglethorpe
