Born Oct. 25, 1909 in Thomas County to the late Ruben Milton Horton and the late Mary Emma Pfister, she was a life-long resident and a homemaker. She was married April 8, 1927 in Monticello, Fla. and was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Edward King, on Oct. 21, 1991. Mrs. King was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Thomasville. She died Friday, May 13, 2005 at Hospitality Care Center in Thomasville. Col. Samuel E. Dyke

Paul Dupree will officiate and interment will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Cairo, with full military honors. Col. Dyke died Saturday, Nov. 27 in Atlanta. Born Oct. 3, 1921, in Moultrie, he was the son of the late Wardell and Thelma Posey Dyke. A member of First United Methodist Church, Dyke served for 33 years in the U.S. Air Force, retiring as colonel. On Jan. 29, 1949, he married Betty S. Dyke, who survives. Newton died Saturday, Nov. 27, at Archbold Memorial Hospital. Born in Thomasville Dec. 31, 1933, he was the son of the late Ralph Newton and the late Ruth Edwards Newton. Newton was a retired machinist with United Airlines for 34 years, served in the U. S. Air Force, and was a member of Boston United Methodist Church. On Dec. 28, 1991, in Cartersville, he married Elsie Mercer Newton who survives. Other survivors include a son, Michael Newton; a daughter, Tracy Newton; stepchildren Terrie Peeples, Tim Mercer and wife Lyndell, Connie Mercer, Bruce Mercer and wife Debby; nine step-grandchildren and six step-great grandchildren; brother Arnold Newton and wife Marion of Wakulla County, Fla. Strickland who preceeded her in death in 1972. Leon O. ‘L.O.’ Wright
Services for Leon O. “L.O.” Wright will be held at 4 p.m. on Monday, April 24, 2006, at the First Presbyterian Church in Thomasville, with the Rev. Daniel Smoak and Dr. Stephen Murray officiating. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Savannah on Tuesday. Mr. Wright died April 21, 2006, at Archbold Memorial Hospital. Born on July 4, 1929, in Canton, Miss., he was a son of the late Leon Ollie and Ruth Wright. He graduated from Louisiana State University with a degree in forestry and worked for more than 35 years with Union Camp Corp. as Manager of Harvesting Operations. Mr. Wright was an avid gardner and enjoyed cultivating a wide variety of plants. He also had a strong interest in land conservation and management. While living in Savannah, he was a member of the Rotary Club and White Bluff Presbyterian Church, where he was an elder. He currently was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Thomasville. On July 25, 1968, in Brunswick, he married Francine Farrer Wright, who survives. Other survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Evelyn Rose Wright and Cameron Fogle of Washington, D.C.; and daughter, Krista Gayle Wright of Atlanta. Lee Waller will officiate. Mr. Satterfield died April 20, 2006, at his residence. Born on Nov. 8, 1940, in Oklahoma, he was a son of the late John Thomas and Irene Whitney Satterfield. Mr. Satterfield was a retired restaurant owner and was married on December 16, 1962, in Carson City, Nev., to Patricia Powers Satterfield, who survives. Thomas E. McRae Sr.
Graveside services for Thomas E. McRae Sr., 90, Cairo, were Saturday, April 22, 2006, at Greenwood Cemetery in Cairo, with The Rev. Charles M. Bennett officiating. Mr. McRae died Thursday, April 20, 2006, after an extended illness. He retired after 24 years working as a high school principal in several Florida counties. After moving to Georgia, he worked as a purchasing agent for the Grady County School System for 14 years. A member of the Georgia Retired Teachers Association, Mr. McRae also helped organize and was a past president of the Cairo Golden K Kiwanis Club. A veteran of World War II, he was a member of the VFW. Mr. McRae is survived by his wife of 22 years, Alice Louise McRae, Cairo; children, Thomas E. McRae Jr., Tallahassee, Fla., Mary Ann Evans, Leander, Texas; grandchildren, Mary Jane Macaluso, Senoia, Byron Evans, Tampa, Fla.; and seven great-grandchildren. Mr. Jones, a retired educator, died Saturday, April 22, 2006, at Grady General Hospital in Cairo. He was born April 3, 1914, in Cairo, a son of the late Robert Henry Jones and Pency Jane Stanaland. Mr. Jones owned Jones Dairy in Cairo for 32 years and was an appliance technician. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Cairo. She served in the Women’s Army Corps during World War II. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Fairborn, Ohio. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Baird was preceded in death by her husband, Sheldon Baird; and two brothers, Buddy and Burney Sealy.
