Miller of Cairo who survives. He was retired from Davis Industries in Thomasville and was a veteran. Graveside services for Cardin A. Russell, Thomasville, are at 10 a.m., Thursday, April 20, 2006, at Ochlocknee City Cemetery. Rev. Barry Perez, Dr. Robert H. Ackerman and the Rev. Keith Hill will officiate. Mrs. Russell died Monday, April 17 at Archbold Hospital. Born July 13, 1939, in Thomasville, she was the daughter of the late Eugene A. Ackerman and Miriam McMillan Ackerman. On June 20, 1959, in Thomasville, she married Robert L. Russell. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and graduated from Thomasville High School and attended the University of Georgia. She worked many years for her brother, Dr. Robert H. Ackerman before retiring as a homemaker. While at home, she made mayhaw jelly for her husband’s fruit and vegetable market located between Thomasville and Tallahassee that people from all over the Southeastern United States enjoyed. She raised five children and was a mama for more than 46 years. She was a sustaining member of Junior Service League and a volunteer with Thomas County schools. Survivors include her husband, Robert L. Russell; daughter, Ashley Russell Hoffman; sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Lee Russell Jr. and wife, Jodi, Ronald M. Services for Sarah Lily Hjort, 84, formerly of Thomasville, are at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 26, 2007, in the chapel at First United Methodist Church. Interment follows in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Hjort died Sunday, April 22, at her residence in Perry. Born July 6, 1922, in Thomas County, she was the daughter of the late Samuel C. and Nell P. Hjort. She was a resident of Thomasville for most of her life before retiring and moving to Albany and then to Perry. She graduated from Stetson University with a degree in music, which she used as a teacher for several years following graduation. She returned to Thomasville to join the family nursery business where she worked for most of 50 years before retiring in 1994. Survivors include three brothers, Samuel Conrad Hjort Jr., of Sequim, Wash., Peter W. Hjort, A. Paul Hjort, both of Thomasville. Among her many nieces and nephews are Anne Hjort Lanier of Perry and Peter W. Hjort Jr., of Rome, whom she cared for and nurtured during their grammar and high school years. Born March 5, 1920, in Grady County, she was the daughter of the late Jesse Dillard and Edna Barineau Stringer. On Aug. 11, 1940, at the Ochlocknee Methodist Church, she married Herbert Wayne Adams who preceded her in death. Mrs. Adams was a caseworker for the Thomas County Department of Family and Children’s Services. She was 1937 graduate of Thomasville High School and Georgia State Women’s College in Valdosta. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church for 77 years. A longtime member of the United Methodist Women’s Circle No. 1, the Keenagers and a charter member of the Sue McTier Sunday School Class. She was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Thomasville Garden Club and the South Georgia Genealogical Society. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and needlework, genealogy, reading, canning and cake decorating. Ed Hornig will officiate. An Auburn resident since 1966, she was retired from the U.S. Soil Conservation Service with 20 years tenure. After five years of loving care by her husband at home, she entered Wesley Terrace (Oak Park) Nursing Home for the remainder of her life. She was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Auburn where she served as the church treasurer. She was born in Boston, Mass., a member of the Osage Tribal Nation and attended Colby College in Maine. After marrying, she and her husband moved to Deland, Fla., where they raised a family and ran a restaurant and pony farm. She was a loving mother and wife and a talented and tireless worker. She was also a fine cook and homemaker, lover of music and a skilled artist. Survivors include her husband, Ken Rymal of Auburn; daughter, Margaret “Peggy” Corbitt (Mac) of Thomasville; and granddaughters, Christine Corbitt and Katherine Corbitt both of Thomasville.
