A Thomas County native, Mr. Wilson was born May 24, 1940, a son of the late J.T. and Willie Mae Wilson. He was of the Methodist faith. Mr. Wilson is survived by a brother, James Wilson and wife, Sylvil, Funston; sisters, Betty Lacey and husband, Buddy, Moultrie, Linda Roberts, and husband, Buddy, Moultrie; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Yellock was a gardner/painter at Springwood Plantation and a member of OakGrove Primitive Baptist Church. Russell Griner Guy
Memorial services for Russell Griner Guy of Thomasville are Monday, May 9, 2005, at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church Chapel. The Rev. Larry Nunnally will officiate. Mr. Guy died Friday, May 6, 2005, after an extended and courageous battle with cancer. Born Aug. 20, 1951, at Archbold Memorial Hospital, he was a son of Betty Griner Guy and the late John Brewster Guy. After graduation from Thomasville High School, he attended Georgia Southwestern College and served in the Marine Corps Reserve at Parris Island. He and his brother then worked with the Alaska Pipe Line. Throughout his life, he enjoyed long-term friendships. He was a lover of nature and fishing. He was an excellent tennis player and fisherman. He worked 20 years in the State Capitol in the State Auditing Department in Juneau. After his retirement, he worked in construction in North Carolina and Georgia. He was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church of Thomasville. He had two children, Jesse Russell Guy and Wylie Mueller Guy of Juneau, Alaska. Other survivors include twin brother and sister-in-law, Ernest Lacy and Barbara Guy of Franklin, N.C.; sister, Grace Elizabeth Guy of Pavo; brother and sister-in-law, John B., Jr. and Jane Guy of Thomasville. Mr. Jackson died Tuesday, May 3, 2005, at Grady General Hospital. A Cairo native and lifetime resident, he was born Sept. 6, 1927, a son of Samuel Loomis and Bernice Sandera Jackson. His was married to Annie Murphy Jackson. Mr. Jackson taught music and mathematics in Grady County for more than 40 years, and he was a World War II veteran and a member of Bethlehem AME Church. He attended the Grady County School System and received a Bachelor of Science in Education at Albany State University at Albany, Ga. He later received a Masters of Science at Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, Fla. He is survived by his wife, Annie Murphy Jackson, Dixie; son, Samuel Eric (Roslyn) Jackson, Fredericksburg, Va.; daughter, Harriet Cecelia Jackson, Portland, Oregon.; sons, Karl Wendell Jackson, Portland, Oregon, Marion Eugene (Lashan) Jackson, Arlington, Texas; grandchildren, Makeda Jackson, Joshua Jackson, Elijah Jackson; sister, Zenobia Mae (Albert) Holloway, Cairo; 11 sisters-in-law; 10 brothers-in-law; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. McKinley Williams
McKinley Williams, 95, of Coolidge, died Friday, May 6, 2005, at Sunrise Nursing Home of Moultrie. Mr. Williams was born Nov. 22, 1909, to the late Elmo and Bertha Mae Williams in Brooks County, Ga. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2005, at Silver Hill Baptist Church of Coolidge, with burial to follow in the Morning Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Norman Park. Mr. Williams was a retired construction worker and of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives, Essie Mae Williams and Mattie Williams; two sons, Rudolph Williams and Johnny Williams; four brothers, Willie Williams, Nathaniel Williams, Robert Williams and Joe Williams; and one sister, Louise Williams. He is survived by two sisters, Lucile Powell of Norman Park and Pearlie Mae Blackwell of Ellenton; three grandchildren, Linda Harris and husband Johnny of College Park, Phyllis S. Born Aug. 17, 1935 in Grady County, he was a son of the late Willie M. and Frances Greene Dinkins. He was married to Karen Dinkins, Grady County, Ochlocknee who survives. He was retired director of the Grady County EMS and served as deputy coroner of Grady County. He served in the U.S. Army and a member of Bold Springs United Methodist Church. Roosevelt King
Services for Roosevelt King are at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 3, 2005 at Antioch Baptist Church in Wrightsville. A graveside service is at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 4 in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Thomasville. Mr. King died April 27. He was born July 18, 1927 to the late William King and Geneva Yellock King Atkinson. He was raised in Beachton and accepted Christ early in life at Oakgrove Primitive Baptist Church. Following high school, he went on to serve successfully in the United States Army. After an honorable discharge, he married Edna F. Phillips and they had one son, Wayne Adrian King. He attended Albany State College and earned a bachelor of education degree in 1952. He furthered his education and received a master’s in educational leadership from New York University in 1961. Some time after his wife’s death, he married Bessie Mae Hall and they have two children, Michael Patrick King and Cindy Anita King. A lifelong educator, he helped to nurture children statewide. In 1983, King retired after more than 30 years of service in the field of public education. Prior to and following retirement, he was involved in several activities as a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, member of Doc Kemp Alumni Association and serving faithfully on the deacon board at Antioch Baptist Church in Wrightsville. He has had numerous honors and been involved in various worthy educational, social and political activities, notably, making a run for the mayor of Wrightsville. He touched many lives and will be greatly missed. Survivors include his three children, Wayne Adrian King of Augusta, Michael Patrick King of Albany, Cindy King Williams (Sunday) of Thomasville; a granddaughter, Lydia Sade’ Williams of Thomasville; a sister, Rosetta Kindred of Los Angeles, Calif.; a devoted niece, Imogene King (Kelvin) and her two children, Kelsey Reddick, Keldrin Reddick of Tallahassee, Fla.; as well as a host of devoted family, friends, neighbors and church members.
