Services for Mandy Lawyer, 84, Thomasville, are at 11 a.m., April 4, 2005, at Ochlocknee Missionary Baptist Church in Beachton. The Rev. James Herbert will officiate and interment is in New Hope Cemetery in Leon County, Fla. Active pallbearers are family and friends of the family. Mrs. Lawyer died March 31 at Albany Health Care. Born July 2, 1920, in Leon County, Fla., she was a daughter of the late Tom and Lizzie Lawyer. She was a member of Ochlocknee Missionary Baptist Church and a laborer. Survivors include a brother, David Lawyer of Thomasville; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Dolores Ann Foltz Saxe

Dolores Ann Foltz Saxe, 90, died March 27, 2005, at her home in Rose Court in the Village. She was born and raised in Nebraska. A registered nurse, she served her country in the Army Nurse Corps from 1941 to 1949 then as an Army wife. Her warm heart and friendly nature made friends wherever she went and she served as an information network for her extended family. She was a devout Catholic and member of St. Jerome’s parish in Largo, Fla. and Holy in Faith in Gainesville, Fla. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Robert Saxe. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Joanne Saxe of Cairo; daughter and granddaughter, Mary and Karen Saxe Aplin of Gainesville, Fla.; sisters, Agnes Brooks of Atlantic, Iowa and Peg Opitz of Englewood, Colo.; brothers, Ray and Francis (Fritz) Foltz of Greeley, Neb.; and many beloved nieces, nephews and friends. She will be interred with her husband in Largo, Fla. and a memorial service will be held in Gainesville, Fla. at the Village. - Moss-Feaster Funeral Home, Largo, Fla.

Quissie Lee Adams Batchlor

Services for Quissie Lee Adams Batchlor, 96, Thomasville, are at 2 p.m., Friday, March 18, 2005, at First Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Dr. I.L. Mullins will officiate and interment is in Peaceful Rest Cemetery. Active pallbearers are deacons of First Missionary Baptist Church. Mrs. Batchlor died March 15 at Hospitality Care Nursing Home. Born May 23, 1908, in Thomas County, she was a daughter of the late Lacey and Alice Adams. In 1930 in Thomas County, she was married to Jessie Batchlor who preceded her in death in 1984. She attended Thomas County Schools and was a homemaker and seamstress. She was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church where she was in the Rose of Sharon Club, Beulah Bush Mission, I.L. Mullins Gospel Choir and Guiding Light Club. Survivors include her nephews, the Rev. Dr. Earl Williams of Thomasville, Russell H. Williams of Anniston, Ala., Clarence Williams of Thomasville; nieces, Dennie Adams, Ethel L. Parks, both of Thomasville, Barbara Jean (Johnnie) Ford of Florence, S.C.; nephews, Norman (Donna) Washington of Cleveland, Ohio, Walter (Julie) Washington of Monteserno, Calif.; niece, Jacquelyn Adams Clayton of Cleveland, Ohio; nephews, Russell Adams Jr., Joseph Adams, Marcell Adams both of Cleveland, Ohio; niece, Mynndale Adams of Cleveland, Ohio; special friend, Mary Holton of Thomasville; extended family, Hiram and Carolyn Thomas of Thomasville; numerous great-nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Russell Adams and Herbert (Jack) Adams; two sisters, Amanda Washington and Flossie Williams. Robert Crapps will officiate and interment is in Greenwood Cemetery. Active pallbearers are grandsons, Ron Harrison, Brice Edwards, Heath Jones, Bradley Jones, Darren Moore and Matthew Ferguson. Honorary pallbearers are nephews, Donald Womble, Tommy Brinkley, Shawn Butler, Terry Collins, Chad Butler, Randy Smith, Eric Horton, Eddie Wilson, Junior Robinson and Dennis Darsey, Jimmy Payne, Johnny Mac Butler, Jet Cox, Dr. Mark Hudson, D.H. Cantrell, Wayne Tootle, Richard Moore, Winfred Robinson, Pierce Strickland, Frank Davenport and W.A. Harrell. Mrs. Butler died Saturday, April 9 at her residence. Born Feb. 23, 1928, in Cairo, she was a daughter of the late Henry J. and Josie Green Horton. She was a homemaker and lifetime resident of Grady County. Mrs. Butler was a charter member of Gordon Heights Baptist Church where she was a faithful nursery worker all the years of her membership. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and David Harrison, Jane and Danny Cliett, Sylvia and Terry Ferguson all of Cairo; sisters, Eilene Britt of Cairo, Agnes Wilson of Pelham, Bobbie Brinkley of Cairo, Thelma Ginn of Ellerslie, Annette Ezell of Cairo; grandchildren, Dana and Darren Moore, Ron and Greta Harrison of Cairo, Sherrie and Heath Jones of Whigham, Heather Cliett, Matthew Ferguson of Cairo; great-grandchildren, Bradley Jones, Kolby Jones both of Whigham, Lacey Moore, Dara Moore, Brice Edwards, Cole Harrison and Zach Harrison all of Cairo. Beryl Davis Kancle, Cairo, died Monday, April 11 at her residence. Born Jan. 8, 1926, in Cairo, she was a daughter of the late John W. and Rosa Rehberg Davis. She was a member of Cairo First Presbyterian Church and a retired secretary for Abitibi Paper in Dayton, Ohio. Survivors include a brother and sisters-in-law, A.J. and Leitha Davis of Cairo, Dolores Kirschbaum and Allison Park of Pennsylvania. Services for Fonnie Mae Norman are at 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at Providence Baptist Church in Whigham. Rev. Steve Singletary will officiate and interment is in Providence Cemetery. Active pallbearers are David Ulmer, Steve Baggett, Lionel Swaim, Dave Hopkins, Mike Sellars and Dennis Clark. Mrs. Norman died Sunday, April 10 at Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville. Born Nov. 7, 1935 in Grady County, she was a daughter of the late Jesse Walter and Audrey Hurst Maxwell. She was married to John L. Norman on Nov. 17, 1951, who preceded her in death on May 5, 2003. She was a member of Providence Baptist Church and was a retired supervisor at Ithaca Industries. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Susan Ann and Roy Perkins, Brenda Harrell (late Raymond Harrell); grandchildren, Johnathan (Bo) and Shelly Harrell, Amy Harrell; great-grandchildren, Jesse Harrell, Hanna Harrell all of Whigham; brothers, William A. Alice Blanche Knapp Snyder

Services for Alice Blanche Knapp Snyder, 93, Americus, are at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 13, 2005, in the chapel of Hancock Funeral Home in Americus with the Rev. John Brodess officiating. Interment services follow at 4 p.m. in Laurel Hill Cemetery in Thomasville, with the Rev. Partain officiating. Mrs. Snyder died on Sunday, April 10 at Sumter Regional Hospital. Mrs. Snyder, a native of Thomasville, was born July 19, 1911, a daughter of the late Joseph Knapp and Mattie Arnold Knapp. She excelled as a basketball player while attending Thomasville High School, and served as captain of the team the year they won the state championship. She was a homemaker, garden club member and a member of Central Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Richard "Dick" Snyder of Americus; a son and daughter-in-law, Jack A. Way Sr. and Barbara Way of Covington; two grandchildren, Jack A. Way Jr. and Cherie Way of Tampa, Fla., and Judy and Kim Crowell of Covington; two great-grandsons, Kyle and Connor Crowell of Covington and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Dennis Lamar Hall Sr., 56 of Thomasville died March 9, 2005 in Bartow, Fla. Born March 14, 1948, he came to Thomasville eight years ago from Wauchula, Fla. where he had lived for eight years. He was a Baptist and a retired truck driver. Survivors include his wife, Florence Hall of Thomasville; sons, Dennis Hall Jr. of Zolfo Springs, Fla., Jason Hall of Valdosta; stepchildren, Matthew Bailey and wife, Angela, Zachary Bailey, Shaunna Bailey, Sharalynne Bailey all of Thomasville; brothers, Mike Hall of Clermont, Fla., Donald Hall of Thomasville, Ronald Hall of Douglas; sister, Melba Jean Johnson of Virginia Beach, Va.; and several nieces and nephews. - Robarts Family Funeral Home, Wauchula, Fla.

Ruby Jordan Stewart

Graveside services for Ruby Jordan Stewart, 74, are at 3 p.m., Tuesday, March 15, 2005 in Greenwood Cemetery in Cairo. The Rev. Carl Harrell and the Rev. Paul Jones will officiate. Mrs. Stewart died Sunday, March 13 at Suwannee Health Care Center in Live Oak, Fla. Born March 22, 1930 in Cairo, she was a daughter of the late Sidney B. and Fannie Harper Jordan. She was a retired nurse’s aide. Survivors include a sister, Odessa J. Mills of Cairo; sister-in-law, Carolyn Jordan of Cairo; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers and sisters, Ethelene Jordan, Sadie Mae Jordan Davis, Gwinn Jordan, Preston H. Jordan and Ivy Harper Jordan. - Clark Funeral Home

John J. Strafford Jr.

Memorial services for John J. Strafford Jr., 84, of Thomasville are at 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 16, 2005 at All Saints’ Episcopal Church with the Rev. Frederick A. Buechner officiating. Interment is in All Saints’ Memorial Gardens. Mr. Strafford died Thursday, March 10 at Hospitality Care Center in Thomasville. Born Aug. 22, 1920 in Cincinnati, Ohio, he was a son of the late John Jay Strafford Sr. and Lola Craigmiles Strafford. He moved to Thomasville in 1981 and was an active member of All Saints’ Episcopal Church, where he served on the Vestry and as Junior and Senior Warden. He was also active in the Kiwanis Club, Golden Key, Men’s Garden Club, the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1940 to 1948 and was a life member of the World War II Submarine Vets and Atomic Vets. He attended Ohio State University and the University of Chicago where he received his master’s degree in industrial engineering. Survivors include his daughter-in-law, Isabel Delgado Strafford; granddaughter, Ana Martha Strafford; and many friends. John Ferguson White Jr.

Services for John Ferguson White Jr. of Thomasville are at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 16, 2005 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where he was a member. Bishop Charles King and President Dan Watson will officiate and interment is in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Mr. White died March 13 in Lake City, Fla. Born March 25, 1946 in Thomasville he was the son of the late John Ferguson White Sr. and Harlowe Stringer White, who survives. On July 31, 1984 in Thomasville he married Kelly Harvey White, who survives. Mr. White was a Foreign Service Diplomat with the United States Information Agency and was a member of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans and Sons of the American Revolution. Other survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Rachel and Jonathan Hanson of Resaca, Ga.; son, John Ferguson White III, daughter, Marian Elizabeth White both of Thomasville; grandchild, Mickey Hanson; sister, Susan Futch of Valdosta; brother, Tim White of Thomasville; and mother-in-law, Marion Harvey of Moultrie. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home. - Allen & Allen Funeral Home

Ellis Paul Davis Sr.

Services for Ellis Paul Davis Sr., 98, Thomasville, are at 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 15, 2005 at Whiddon-Shiver Funeral Home. Interment follows at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Mr. Davis died Saturday, March 12 at Archbold Memorial Hospital. Born Nov. 6, 1906 in Martel, Fla., he was a son of the late Samuel and Penelope Davis. He moved to Thomasville in the early 1930’s, taking the position of bookkeeper for Pebble Hill Plantation. He was a retired CPA and founded the CPA firm Davis and Freeman, currently Fletcher and Associates, in Thomasville. He was a charter member of Dawson Street United Methodist Church and a current member of First United Methodist Church. He was a member of Thomasville Masonic Lodge No. 369 and was recently presented with his 50-year certificate and jeweled pin. Noble Davis was also a member of the Thomasville Shrine Club which is a member of the Hasan Shrine Center in Albany. He was an avid golfer and made two holes-in-one at Glen Arven Country Club. He enjoyed taking his children and grandchildren hiking, camping, fishing and sightseeing and instilled in them a love for adventure. Survivors include his wife of 19 years, Lorene Parramore Malone Davis; a son, Ellis Paul Davis Jr. of Washington, D.C.; daughter, Linda Davis Ross Goodwin and husband, Jimmy of Chapin, S.C.; stepchildren, Barbara Malone of Atlanta, Ann Malone Moon and husband, Don of Signal Mountain, Tenn., Judson Malone and wife, Christina of Columbia, Md.; sister-in-law, Evelyn Sweat of Thomasville; grandchildren, Jilynn Ross Parmly and husband, David of Knoxville, Tenn., Christopher Ross and wife, Kimberly of West Palm Beach, Fla., Alyssa Ross Hood and husband, Greg of Elk Grove, Calif., Buck Ross and wife, Sheri of Chapin, S.C., Michael Moon and wife, Rae of Signal Mountain, Tenn., David Moon of Chattanooga, Tenn, Melania Pender of Columbia, Md., Javier Pender of Columbia, Md.; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Carrie Shearer Davis. The family would like to thank special family friend, Ethel Davis who lovingly cared for Mr. Davis. Thanks also to Susan and Powell Waite and the entire staff at Woodleaf Assisted Living, sitters Herbert Johnson and Tracee Ford, the third floor nursing staff at Archbold Memorial Hospital and Hospice of Southwest Georgia. Services for Mrs. Sammie Sasser Wilder, 90, of Pelham, are 11 a.m. Monday, March 14, 2005, at Braswell Funeral Home Chapel. The Elder Max Childs and Rev. David Pickering will officiate and interment is in Godwin Cemetery. Active pallbearers are Norwood Wilder Jr., Windle Johnson, Kevin Elliott, Lynn Wilder, Littleton Wilder Jr. and Matthew Chancey. Mrs. Wilder was born in Grady County on July 9, 1914, to the late Edgar Earl Sasser and the late Ida Renora Burns. She married the late A. U. Wilder on Dec. 27, 1936. Mrs. Wilder was a homemaker and attended Macedonia Baptist Church. She died March 12, 2005, at Mitchell County Hospital in Camilla. Survivors include sons, Littleton Sr. and Mattie Pearl Wilder of Pelham and Norwood Sr. and Donna Wilder of Macon; sisters, Laleah Thacker of Albany and Ruth Campbell of Lakeland, Fla.; four grandsons; three granddaughters; and, eight great-grandchildren. Nancy Patricia Smith Horne

Services for Nancy Patricia Smith Horne, 52, of Iron City, Ga., are 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 15, 2005, at the First Baptist Church in Donalsonville. The Dr. Ron McCaskill will officiate and interment will be at 3 p.m. in Hawthorne Cemetery in Cairo. Pallbearers are Tony Riley, Dean King, Robbie Smith, Chris Thomas, Joe Burke and Danny Watson. Mrs. Horne was born on March 30, 1952, in Bainbridge, Ga. to James Wesley and Verna Jones Smith. She graduated from Seminole County High School in 1970 and married Kenneth Horne in 1971. She was a devoted Pre-K teacher at Children’s Manor Kindergarten in Donalsonville and then at the Mother Goose Nursery in Bainbridge where she worked along beside Karen Sheffield for 24 years. While in High School, Mrs. Horne was a member of the Beta Club. She taught Sunday School at Iron City Baptist Church for a number of years and just last summer went on the Romanian mission trip with the First Baptist Church of Donalsonville. Mrs. Horne was planning to go on this trip again this summer. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Donalsonville. She passed away on Friday, March 11, 2005, at Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan, Ala. Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Horne of Iron City; her parents, James Wesley and Verna Jones Smith of Cairo; her father-in-law, Hardy Horne of Iron City; son, Garrison Horne of Iron City; two daughters, Kristie Easom and her husband Scott of Donalsonville and Tammie Bond and her husband John of Chattanooga, Tenn.; two sisters, Gina Sue Harkins and her husband Paul of Tallahassee, Fla. and Sharon Brandon and her husband Kenneth of Thomasville; one grandson, Wesley Easom; and, a special friend, Karen Sheffield of Donalsonville. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 14, 2005 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home.
