Mr. Turner died Tuesday, Feb. 22 at his residence. He was born April 13, 1957 in Thomas County and was a draftsman for Florida Steel. Ulysess Burgess Jr., 64, of Thomasville died Friday, Feb. 18, 2005, at Grady General Hospital in Cairo. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with the Rev. Estelle Arrington officiating, assisted by the Rev. Earnest Scott. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Ronnie Frazier, James Smith, Jeffery Davis, Isaac Davis, Terry Stewart and Joe Henry Stewart. Born Dec. 6, 1940, in Brooks County, Mr. Burgess was the son of the late Ulysess Burgess and the late Beatrice Burgess. He was a logger and a member of the Baptist faith. Survivors include a daughter, Sikondra Anderson-Moore of Tampa, Fla.; two stepsons, Barry Ross of Valdosta and Kemberly Ross and wife Aroma of Atlanta; five stepdaughters, Glenda Ross, Robin Davis and Ceryl Ross, all of Thomasville, Fawn Davis and husband Hubert of Valdosta and Wanda Randolph and husband Daryl of Atlanta; a brother, Willie James Burgess and wife Betty of Hartford, Conn.; five sisters, Betty Jackson and husband Roy, Jeanette Lee and husband Willie, Leona Burgess and friend Roy and Ethelene Burgess, all of Trenton, N.J., and Mary Stewart of Pavo; a grandchild, Charles Moore of Tampa, Fla.; a great-grandchild, Zyia Moore of Tampa, Fla.; two aunts, Lilly Bell Giddens and Mary Lee Thomas, both of West Palm Beach, Fla.; a goddaughter, Gwen Scott of Thomasville; a host of nieces and nephews; a special friend, Estelle Ross of Thomasville; and several other relatives and friends. A visitation for George Kenneth (Ken) Hamilton is from 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005 at Allen & Allen Funeral Home. Mr. Hamilton, formerly of St. Simons Island and Atlanta, died Feb. 21 at his residence. Born Nov. 10, 1919 in Millen, Ga. he was the son of the late Rev. George Wharton and Bessie Naomi Barton Hamilton. In 1948 he married Anna Hansen Hamilton, who survives. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and member of the VFW, a Mason, 1952 graduate of the University of Georgia, a member of the Venetian Society and a member of Alpha Kappa Psi Fraternity. He is also survived by a daughter, Elaine Hamilton of Thomasville; a granddaughter and her husband Kristina Joy and Christopher Brian Minchew of Americus; great-grandchildren, Wesley Ian Smith, Anna Lenora Delaney Smith, Hamilton Morgan Minchew; sister, Margaret Naomi Adams of Decatur, Ala.; numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were a brother, Joe Sharp Hamilton; sisters, Helen Strain, Lavana Gardner and Francis Pippin, precedes him in death. Robert Dewitt Ayers
Memorial services for Robert Dewitt Ayers, 68, Green Cove Springs, Fla. and formerly of Thomasville, are at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005 at All Saints Episcopal Church in Thomasville. The Rev. Frederick A. Buechner will officiate. The private interment is in the All Saints Memorial Garden. Mr. Ayers died Saturday, Feb. 19 in Green Cove Springs, Fla. He was born in Tuscaloosa, Ala., the son of John Henry Ayers and Anna Mae Ayers. He attended Syracuse University as a student in the school of business. He worked for Flowers Industries for 20 years retiring in 1997 as director of information services. He and his wife, Judy, moved to Green Cove Springs in 2004. He was an avid antique car collector and an accomplished builder of stereo loudspeakers. He was a charter member and served as president of Glen Arven Country Club, active in Thomasville Landmarks and the Thomasville-Thomas County Chamber of Commerce. A founding member of All Saints’ Episcopal Church, he played a major role in the development and design of All Saints’ physical plant and properties. Survivors include his wife, Judith Sawyer Ayers; two sons, Richard Scott Ayers of Augusta, Robert Dale Ayers of Green Cove Springs; a daughter, Elizabeth Ayers Riley of Garrettsville, Ohio; a son, Mitchell David Ayers of San Diego, Calif.; and four grandchildren, Mallory DePalma, Daniel DePalma, Danielle Ayers and Janelle Ayers. William E. ‘Billy’ Duncan
A memorial service for William E. (Billy) Duncan, 65, is at 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 13, 2005 at Whigham United Methodist Church. Mr. Duncan died Feb. 8. He was born July 17, 1939 to Floyd and Clyda Worn Duncan and grew up in the Whigham area. After enlisting in the military, he was assigned to Alaska, where in 1962 he married Virgina Ruesink and they had three children. After leaving the military, he joined an engineering firm in Alaska and his firm relocated him to Salt Lake City, Utah in 1981. He was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church in Salt Lake City. He loved his family, Whigham, reading, fishing and his remote control. He will be truly missed by his family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Ginny; children, Michael, Karen and Laurie; grandchildren, Nick, Drew, Kelli, Parker and Connor; and a brother, Myron Prevatte.
