She was the daughter of the late Clayton and Anna Hudson Ulmer. She was married to Thomas Alton Walden who preceded her in death. She was a member of Tired Creek Primitive Baptist Church and a homemaker. Jefferson Trent Howell Jr.
Memorial services for Jefferson Trent Howell Jr. of Austell are at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 12, 2005 in the Village Center at The Presbyterian Village in Austell. The Rev. Debbie Dunlap Wells will officiate. Interment is in Oakwood Cemetery in Pulaski, Va. at a later date. Dr. Howell died Feb. 7. Born Aug. 2, 1926 in Roanoke, Ala., he was the son of the late Jefferson Trent Howell Sr. and Mary Virginia Struthers Howell. His family moved from Alabama to Clearwater, Fla. in the mid-1930’s. He attended school in Clearwater, the Florida Military Academy in St. Petersburg, Fla. and graduated from high school at Sewanee Military Academy, Sewanee, Tenn. During World War II, he was in the Navy V-12 program. Following the war, he was in the Navel ROTC program at Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, and was commissioned an ensign in the Naval Reserve. He received the degrees of bachelor of science and bachelor of architecture from Georgia Tech in 1948 and 1949. Following graduation from Georgia Tech, he went to work with B.F. Goodrich Company in Akron, Ohio as a construction supervisor for warehouses and retail stores. In 1950, he entered Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur from which he graduated in 1953 with a bachelor of divinity degree. He later earned a master of theology of ministry from Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur in 1981. Through more than 40 years of pastoral ministry he served congregations in Spartanburg, S.C., Grover, N.C., Quincy, Fla. and Hapeville, Waycross and Albany. He retired from First Presbyterian Church, Albany in 1991. In 1999, he and his wife moved to The Presbyterian Village in Austell where they have lived for the last five years. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Martha Ann Board Howell formerly of Pulaski, Va.; two sons, Jefferson Trent Howell III and his wife, Carole Dunaway Howell of Lexington, S.C., William Board Howell and his wife, Julia Elizabeth Horne Howell of Thomasville; a daughter, Susanne Howell Drew and her husband, Gary Alan Drew of Fort Myers, Fla.; three grandchildren, Jefferson Trent Howell IV and his wife, Kelli Dozier Howell of Lexington, S.C., Gary Bradford Drew and Ethan Howell Drew of Fort Myers; a great-grandson, Parker Trent Howell of Lexington, S.C.; two nephews; and three nieces. John (Jack) Putnam Clement
Services for John Putnam Clement (Jack) of Thomasville are at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005 at First United Methodist Church in Thomasville. The Rev. Leigh Ann Raynor and the Rev. Bob Dixon will officiate and interment is in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Mr. Clement died Feb. 6 at 72 years of age at Archbold Memorial Hospital. A native of western New York, he was born April 9, 1932 in Jamestown, N.Y., the son of the late John I. and Annette Clement. He graduated from Gowanda High School in Gowanda, N.Y. and was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving during the Korean War conflict. After his military service, he graduated from Alfred State S. U. N. Y. with a degree in horticulture. All his working life was spent in south Florida where he retired as Director of Public Works for the City of Lauderhill, Fla., he and his wife chose Thomasville for retirement in 1996. He loved his adopted city and the tall pine trees. He was a member and past member of the board of trustees of First United Methodist Church in Thomasville. He was a member of the American Legion and was a Mason. Survivors include his loving wife, Norma Clement; daughter, Julie Fredrickson; grandchildren, Lori and Jim of Alpharetta; son, John Stark Clement of Laguna Hills, Calif.; brother, Rod Clement of Thomasville; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ray and Rosemary Stark of New Bern, N.C.; and many dear friends. Rev. C.R. McCutcheon
Services for the Rev. Clyde Ray McCutcheon, 86, of Carrollton are at 4 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005 at the chapel of Almon Funeral Home in Carrollton. The Rev. Dr. Steve Davis and the Rev. John Riley will officiate and interment is in Carroll Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers are Judson Bell, William Bell, Daniel Denney, Lee Campbell, Nat Shackelford, Don Smith, James Gordon and Dr. Lynn Holmes. Rev. McCutcheon died Sunday, Feb. 6 at his residence. Born Jan. 3, 1909 in Little Rock, Ark., he grew up and attended public schools in Atlanta and College Park. After working various jobs as a young man during the Depression, he married Ophelia Barrett in 1932 and later began selling life insurance for American National Life. He worked his way up to general sales manager and later deputy superintendent for the Atlanta region with American National. After years of serving as a deacon at Mercer Avenue Baptist in College Park and lay speaker in a few churches, he was ordained into the ministry in 1946 and called to serve as a bi-vocational pastor at Live Oak Gardens Baptist Church in College Park. In 1947, he quit his insurance business and began fulltime ministry. In 1948, he enrolled at Norman College, a Baptist college in Norman Park, and served as a student pastor at Big Creek Baptist in Thomas County. At Norman College, he was salutatorian of his class and president of the honor society and the ministerial association. He later served as a trustee of Norman College. He served as pastor of New Bethel Church in Colquitt County and Greenville Baptist, his longest pastorate from 1954 to 1971. He served for several terms as moderator of the Western Baptist Association, which included Meriwether and Coweta counties. In Carroll County, he served as regular and interim pastor of Roopville, Abilene, Antioch, Mars Hill and Midway Macedonia. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Carrollton since 1976. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Steve and Cynthia McCutcheon of Carrollton; a granddaughter and her husband, Stephanie and Sammy Dunlap of Barnesville; a brother, Roy L. McCutcheon of Apopka, Fla.; sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Parker of Fayetteville, Myrtice Teate of Starke, Fla.; and numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Ophelia McCutcheon; and a brother, Virgil O. McCutcheon. The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
