A memorial service for Miss Hilda Darnell Tomberlin is at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005 in the Chapel of All Faiths at Southwestern State Hospital in Thomasville. The Revs. Clarence and Laura Jackson will officiate. Miss Tomberlin was born July 9, 1945 and died Jan. 29, 2005. Hilda was a precious gift from God. She was a beautiful lady and her sweet spirit touched the lives of everyone who knew her. She is survived by special friends, Jennifer and Robert Griffin of Ochlocknee, Libby Evans of Meigs, Terry Wilder of Thomasville, Fred and Debbie Maddox of Pavo, and a multitude of loving caregivers and friends at Southwestern and in the community. She was married to Luther Lamar Walden Sr. who preceded her in death on Sept. 26, 2004. She was a homemaker and a member of Midway Baptist Church. Raymond Herschell Baggett
Raymond Herschell Baggett, 75, of Hohenwald, Tenn., died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2005 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn. Mr. Baggett, born April 28, 1929, in Thomas County, was the son of the late Jessie Leonard and Wilma Bernice Fulgham Baggett. He was the owner of Auto Body Repair. He is survived by his wife Annie Marie Vonier Baggett of Hehenwald, Tenn.; four sons, Raymond Baggett Jr. of Thomasville, Steven Baggett of Havana, Ill. and Bruce and Frank Baggett of Hehenwald, Tenn.; two daughters, Antonia Natschke of Waynesboro, Tenn. and Teresa Natschke of Machaw, Ill.; two brothers, Jerald and Bill Baggett of Thomasville; two sisters, Estelle Carlson and Helen Henderson of Thomasville; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was a farmer and carpenter and had lived all his life in Boston. He was married to Mattie Hudson on July 2, 1960. To this union six children were born, James, Joann, Melvin, Darrell, Jerome and Carla. After his first marriage dissolved, he later married Bessie T. Brooks on April 28, 1984. Juanita Minchew Faulk Robinson
Memorial services for Juanita Minchew Faulk Robinson are at 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005, at First Presbyterian Church of Thomasville where she was a member. Mrs. Robinson died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005, after a brief illness. Born May 9, 1927, in Waycross, Ga., she was the daughter of Dr. Benjamin Harvey Minchew and Juanita Bennett Minchew. A graduate of Waycross High School, she earned her bachelor’s degree in comparative religion in 1948 from Sweetbriar College, where she received the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award given by the New York-Southern Society. She did graduate work at the Union Theological Seminary of Columbia University in New York. On Dec. 22, 1948, she married Ralph Ivey Faulk of Thomasville, who preceded her in death on June 15, 1991. A homemaker for most of her life, she raised five children and was an active community volunteer, sharing her time and talents on behalf of the Thomasville Junior Service League, Thomas County League of Women Voters, Daughters of the American Revolution, Thomasville-Thomas County Chamber of Commerce, Thomas County Historical Society and Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for Children, among others. Active in the First Presbyterian Church, she was a noted Bible teacher and served the Women of the Church in many capacities, including president. In her later life, she continued her education at Valdosta State College, earning a second bachelor’s degree, in early childhood education, in 1980, and she taught 13 years in the Thomas County public schools. On April 3, 1993, she married Arthur R. Robinson, who survives. Other local survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Philip and Sissy Faulk of Thomasville; daughters and sons-in-law Ellen and George Herring of Boston; Charity and Ken Manwaring of Thomasville; and Elizabeth (Boo) and Rick Ivey of Thomasville; grandchildren, Hamilton Faulk, Ivey Manwaring, Sarah Manwaring, Mitchell Herring, Sterling Ivey, Brantley Ivey and Ford Faulk; and a great-granddaughter, Mallie Faulk, all of whom reside in Thomas County. A daughter, Mary Ivey Faulk of Thomasville, preceded her in death on Dec. 1, 1995. Mrs. Robinson is also survived by her brother, Dr. Harvey Minchew of Winchester, Md.; her sister, Doris Tennant, of Jacksonville, Fla.; and a large extended family. No formal visitation is planned, but the family is receiving visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Faulk at 1203 E. Washington Street. Washington Assembly No. 34, steward and church financial secretary, vice president of Civic Garden Club, president of the Susie Flipper Missionary Society, member of the Usher Board and member of the church choir. Judge George Arthur Horkan Jr.
Services for Judge George Arthur Horkan Jr., 78, Moultrie, are at 11 a.m., Friday, Feb. 4, 2005 at First Presbyterian Church in Moultrie. The Rev. Hugh Ward will officiate and interment is in Westview Cemetery. Judge Horkan died Feb. 2 at Colquitt Regional Medical Center. Born March 9, 1926, in Moultrie, the son of the late George A. and Martha Olliff Horkan, he is a lifelong resident of Moultrie. He graduated from Moultrie High School in 1943. He is a combat veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific war zone. He received his A.B. degree from Mercer University, 1950, and his J.D. degree from the University of Georgia School of Law, cum laude, in 1952 where he also served on the school Honor Court and as a student editor of the Georgia Bar Journal in 1952. Admitted to the practice of law in the Georgia and federal courts in 1952, he practiced law in Moultrie from 1952 to 1969. He served as judge, Moultrie Municipal Court, 1957 to 1969; as district attorney, Southern Judicial Circuit of Georgia, 1969 to 1972; judge, Superior Courts, Southern Judicial Circuit of Georgia, 1972 to 1994; and as chief judge of the circuit, 1979 to 1994. He served as senior judge, Superior Courts of Georgia, 1995 to present. He served as president of the Moultrie Bar Association; as a member of the Georgia Judicial Qualifications Commission, 1977 to 1981; the Georgia Criminal Justice Council, 1975 to 1976; the Judicial Council of Georgia, 1982; as administrative judge for the 2nd Judicial District of Georgia; and as a member of the Council of Superior Court Judges of Georgia, 1972 to present. He served as president of the Moultrie Kiwanis Club, 1963; as an adult advisor for the Moultrie Youth Center; president of elementary school PTA; president of the semi-pro Dixie Baseball League; as a director of the Georgia-Florida professional baseball league; president of Moultrie Touchdown Club; director, Sunset Country Club; director, Moultrie YMCA; chairman of the board of deacons and as an elder of Moultrie First Presbyterian Church. He was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Virginia Davis Horkan; sons, George A. Horkan III and wife, Alicia of Moultrie, Frank D.
