Services for Jacqueline Ashurst Cooper Morse, 86, Dunwoody and formerly of Montezuma are at 1 p.m., Friday, Feb. 4, 2005 at Montezuma United Methodist Church. The Rev. Ken Myers will officiate and interment is in Bertha Dozier Memorial Park. Mrs. Morse died Sunday, Jan. 30 at her residence. Born Jan. 13, 1919, in Eatonton, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Jackson Cooper and Celeste Ashurst Cooper. She had lived in Montezuma for 43 years, coming from Orlando, Fla. She was a member of the Montezuma United Methodist Church where she was an active choir member. She was a member of Montezuma Music Lover’s Club and assisted with various school activities and literary events. Mrs. Morse visited with her son, Jack Morse Sr. and his family frequently in Thomasville and enjoyed attending services at First Baptist Church in Thomasville. Survivors include two sons, Louis Tracy Morse Jr. of Roswell, Thomas Jackson Morse of Thomasville; daughter, Jacqueline M. “Cissy” Brown of Dunwoody; five grandchildren, Candice Brown of Dunwoody, Thomas Jackson Morse Jr. of Brunswick, David Lawrence Morse of Ann Arbor, Mich., Kristin Morse, Kevin Morse both of Roswell; two great-grandchildren, Tybalt Brown and Lexi Morse. Grandsons are pallbearers. Mrs. Adams died Jan. 30, 2005 at Archbold Memorial Hospital. Born June 13, 1915 in Dade County, Fla., she was the daughter of the late William Jordan Owens and Nancy Elizabeth Ambrose Owens. She was married to Fred Chandler Adams who preceded her in death. Mrs. Adams was a member of First Baptist Church and was a homemaker. She lived in Miami until the last 18 years when she moved to Thomasville. Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Fred and Carol Adams of Altamonte Springs, Fla., James and Rita Adams of Sharpsburg; daughter and son-in-law, Hazel and Robert Perkins of Thomasville; sister, Addie Mae Johns of Pembrook Pines, Fla.; grandchildren, James Adams, Bart Smith, Stacy Spaulding, Shelley McCurdy, Kristi Day, Kevin Adams, Debbie Nelson, Robert Perkins Jr., John Perkins, Brian Perkins; and 23 great-grandchildren. Active pallbearers are former athletes of Washington Consolidated and Washington Middle Schools. Mr. Cruel died Jan. 28 at his residence. Born Nov. 4, 1929 in Early County, Ga., he was a son of Eugene Cruel and Frances Hodges. On March 21, 1956, he married Earlene Averett Cruel. He had lived in Blakely before moving to Cairo 44 years ago. He is a 1956 graduate of Albany State College where he earned a bachelor of science degree in early childhood education. He was an educator/coach, member of Mt. Calvary M.B. Church where he was former deacon of chairmen, GAE, NAACP and Masonic Lodge of Early County. Survivors include his wife, Earlene Cruel of Cairo; son, Ronnie (Vickie) Cruel of Cairo; daughters, Cheryl (Tim) Simmons of Cairo, Latrice (Robert) Donaldson of Cairo; sister, Nita (Willie) Harrison of Leesburg; and six grandchildren. Mr. Hartley died Monday, Jan. 31 at Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville. Born Feb. 2, 1916 in Grady County, he was a son of the late Lonnie and Gertrude Scoggins Hartley. He was married to Myrtle B. Hartley of Cairo. He was a physical therapist aide with the Veterans Administration. An active member of Pine Park Baptist Church in Cairo, serving as a deacon for several years. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran serving in Asiatic Pacific Theater in the battles and campaign of New Guinea and East Indies Papuan. Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Myrtle B. Hartley of Cairo; daughters and sons-in-law, Doris H. and Fenton Castleberry of Cairo, Louise H. and Robert Turner of Athens, Mary H. and Robert Shiver of Bonaire; a son, Timothy A. Hartley of Cairo; sisters, Eira Mae Odom, Virginia Holland both of Cairo, Alice Pearson of Pelham, Hattie Royal of Albany; grandchildren, Cheryl C. Mr. Storch died Jan. 29 at Archbold Medical Center. Born Aug. 21, 1929 in Passiac, N.J., he was a son of the late Joseph Franklin Storch and the late Antoinette M. Gresser Storch. He was married to Eva Strickland Storch who preceded him in death on Dec. 19, 2001. He was of the Methodist faith and supervisor at the Jacksonville Journal and Florida Times-Union as a composer. Born May 1, 1911, in Cordele, she was the daughter of the late Enoch Northrop Bond and Lydia Bell Taylor Bond. She was married to Fondren Hammond Thompson who preceded her in death on April 25, 1990. Mrs. Thompson was a member of First Baptist Church in Thomasville and was a bookkeeper. Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn T. She was a 1949 graduate of Douglass High School and attended Savannah State College. She was a member of American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Providence. M.B. Church where she served as president of Providence Flower Fund and was a Girl Scout leader. She was a teacher’s assistant and lived in Thomas County all her life. Church, will officiate. Mrs. Melton died Jan. 22 at Glen-Mor Nursing Home. Born Aug. 22, 1910 in Thomas County, she was a daughter of the late Abe and Aggie Hayes. She was married to Jerome C. Melton, who preceded her in death on Nov. 28, 1959, in Wilmington, N.C. She graduated from Allen Normal and Industrial School on June 4, 1929 and was a member of Providence M.B. Church. She was retired and moved back to Thomasville in 1982 from St. Petersburg, Fla. Survivors include cousins, Willie Mae Williams, Ethel L. Dixon, Johnnie White, Rosa Mae Thompson, Louette Hampton, Rosetta Kerbo, Christine Hollis all of Thomasville; friends, Edna Surles, Eugene and Leola Collins all of Thomasville and other friends. Charles Foulkes Weir
Services for Charles Foulkes Weir, 85, 429 E. Calhoun St., Thomasville, are at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005 at Second Presbyterian Church, 1306 Fletcher St., Thomasville. The Rev. Earl Williams Jr., pastor officiating, and interment is in Peaceful Rest Cemetery. Active pallbearers are elders of the church and family friends. Mr. Weir died Jan. 20 in Lilburn. Born Jan. 20, 1920 in Charleston, S.C., he was a son of the late Charles Hilton Weir and Jenny Foulkes Weir of Nassau Bahamas. He was married to Johnnie Hamilton. His father moved the family back to Nassau shortly after his birth where Mr. Weir grew up. He attended The Boys Central School and graduated from Government High School in Nassau. As a boy, he played soccer, cricket and tennis. He went on to play tennis at Florida Agricultural & Mechanical College in Tallahassee, Fla. He was a veteran of World War II. He graduated from Florida Agricultural & Mechanical College with a bachelor of science in public school music. His major instrument was the pipe organ. He did further study at the Guilmant Organ School at First Presbyterian Church in New York City with Willard Irving Nevins. He also studied pipe organ at American Conservatory in Chicago, Ill. He loved God, church, family, music, conversation and tennis. He was a member of Second Presbyterian Church where he served as organist and choir director for over 20 years. He taught in public schools in Georgia, Dade County, Fla. and Nassau Bahamas. He also served as organist at St. Mary’s Church in Nassau Bahamas and churches in Miami, Fla. He loved teaching music to children and adults because he loved music and he loved people. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Johnnie Hamilton Weir; two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles Hamilton and Cherita Weir of Lilburn, John Luffborough and Reba Weir of Norcross; nephew, Warren Gibson of Miami, Fla.; five grandchildren, Yolanda Tinker, Harry Tinker, Don Pedro Tinker, Ronesha Tinker, Kristen Tinker of Nassau Bahamas; cousins, Walter Weir of Bronx, N.Y., Sheila Weir of Nassau Bahamas, Aubrey and Miriam Curling of Nassau Bahamas, the Rev. Dr. Emmette and Ena Wier of Freeport Bahamas, Dr. Roger Weir of Washington, D.C.; nieces, Maxine McCants of Midlothian, Va., Claire Oliver of Philadelphia, Pa., Terry Hawkins of Tallahassee, Fla., Emily James of Orlando, Fla.; and numerous other relatives and friends.
