Graveside services for Gonez Singletary Ferrell are at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005 in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Thomasville. The Rev. Wayne Burdeshaw and the Rev. Dr. Paul Jones will officiate. Mrs. Ferrell died Jan. 12 at Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville. Born Nov. 1, 1911 in Grady County, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Oscar and Bama Drew Singletary. She was married to Grady Wade who preceded her in death on Jan. 11, 1942. She was married to John Morgan Ferrell who preceded her in death on March 3, 1990. She was a lifetime resident in this area. She worked as a clerk at the Cairo Firestone Store and later as a nurse’s aide in Thomasville. She was a member of Bold Springs United Methodist Church and attended Eastside Baptist Church in Cairo with her daughter. Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Jacquelyn and Hubert Chambers of Cairo; a grandson, Ed Green Chambers of Fitzgerald; a sister, Agnes S. Williams of Cairo; and a niece, Marilyn Joyner of Cairo. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Eastside Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 749, Cairo, Ga. 39828 or to a favorite charity. Dorothy Louise Giles

Services for Dorothy Louise Giles, 76, Coolidge, are at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005 at the chapel of Harrell Faircloth Funeral Home. The Rev. Max Newham and the Rev. Donnie Sloan will officiate. Interment is in Murphy Cemetery in Coolidge. Active pallbearers are Aaron Goff, Jesse Goff, William Craig, Will Craig, Logan Walker, Clint Giles, Jim Courtney and Thomas Shoffeitt. Mrs. Giles died Jan. 12 at her residence. She was born March 8, 1928 in Colquitt County, Ga. She was a retired nurse ad a member of Doerun Church of God. Survivors include sons, the Rev. Larry W. Giles and wife, Diane of Brunswick; daughters, Dottie R. Goff of Coolidge, Tonia R. Rowland of Doerun; brothers, the Rev. Kerry L. “Buddy” Courtney and wife, Carol of Illinois; sisters, Hazel Squires, Martha Harrell both of Moultrie; seven grandchildren, Kimberly Craig, Leigh York, Aaron Goff, Clint Giles, Suzanne Shoffeitt, Gerri York and Lori Giles; and 10 great-grandchildren. Wilmon R. ‘Snooks’ Green

Services for Wilmon R. (Snooks) Green, of Cairo, are at 3 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005 at Gordon Heights Baptist Church in Cairo. The Rev. John Paul Hasick will officiate and interment is in Cairo Cemetery in Cairo. Active pallbearers are Kenneth Green, Edward Green, Buz Green, Raymond Green, William Owens and Jimmy Douglas. Honorary pallbearers are Men’s Sunday School Class at Gordon Heights Baptist Church, Burt Horton, Marcus Pearce all Grady County Law Enforcement personnel, Sam Singletary, Jimmy Scarborough, Scott Newberry, Bill Adams, Carlton Powell, Wayne Bonner and Wayne Tootle. Mr. Green died Thursday, Jan. 13 at his residence. Born Nov. 3, 1923 in Cairo, he was a son of the late William N. and Effie Lee Owens Green. On July 24, 1943, he married Virginia Bonner Green of Cairo. He retired Dec. 31, 2004 as sheriff of Grady County after serving two terms in office. Before becoming sheriff, he was a bus driver for Grady County Board of Education. He was a member of the American Legion Post 122, the VFW and Georgia Sheriff Association. He was the oldest person to ever graduate from the Georgia Law Enforcement Academy. He was the oldest elected sheriff in Georgia when he took his oath of office in 1996. He was a member of Gordon Heights Baptist Church in Cairo and served in the U.S. Navy. Survivors include his wife, Virginia Bonner Green of Cairo; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Karen Green of Cairo; granddaughters, Missy and Gary Morton of Arcadia, Fla., Kimberly and Ben Crapps, Ginny and Ed Hopper all of Thomasville, Laren Green who is a senior at the University of Georgia in Athens; great-grandchildren, Kendell Morton, Jake Crapps; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, William Floyd Green; and a sister, Louise Green. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday at the funeral home. - Clark Funeral Home

Willie Gene Howard Sr.

Services for Willie Gene (Tan) Howard Sr. , 54, 1082 Norias Rd., Metcalfe, are at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005 at Healing Temple Church, corner of M.L. King and West Jackson Streets. Bishop Robert Welch, pastor and the Rev. Charlie Barfield of Madison, Fla. officiating and interment is in Mitchell Cemetery in Metcalfe. Active pallbearers are Paul Guyton, Willie Johnson, Robert Gantt, Johnny Williams, Oscar Sanders and Charlie Brown. Mr. Howard died Jan. 4 at Archbold Medical Center. Born Sept. 14, 1950 in Macon, he was a son of the late Jessie Howard and Willie Mae McDow Howard. He was married to Sherry Lynn Bass Howard. He lived here for 14 years after moving from Macon. He was a 1969 graduate of Ballard-Hudson High School and attended South Georgia College. He was a member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church where he served as trustee. He was a farmer and was employed by Diamond Service Station, Packing Co-Operation of America and Yellow Cab Company. After moving to Thomasville, he proudly served his community by supplying vegetables to many of his friends and was known as the Vegetable Man. Survivors include his wife, Sherry L. Howard of Thomasville; sons, Carl White, Terrance (Sabrina) Palmer, Corey Banks all of Macon, Kamal Howard of Atlanta; daughters, Thandi (Emory) Eakin of Cincinnati, Ohio, Shayla Howard of Macon, Djanaha Howard of Thomasville, Adrienne Howard of Thomasville; son, Willie G. Howard Jr. of Thomasville; daughter, Akilah Howard of Thomasville; brothers, Jessie (Shirley) Howard Jr. of Atlanta, Jimmy (Carolyn) Howard of Macon; sisters, Elizabeth S. Brown, Mattie Gantt all of Macon, Clifford Howard of Atlanta; mother-in-law, Cora M. Bass of Thomasville; sister-in-law, Elaine (Larry) Sellers of Macon; father-in-law, the Rev. W.G. Mr. Huffman died Thursday, Jan. 13 at his residence. Born May 27, 1951 in Gleenwood, W. Va., he was a son of the Betty Lou Neville Huffman Chaney and the late William M. Huffman Sr. He was a truck driver for Moore Truck Lines. Services for LeClaire Clayton of Athens are at 11 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 13, 2005 at the First United Methodist Church in Thomasville where she was a member. Interment is in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Clayton died Jan. 9, 2005 in Athens. Born Sept. 1, 1911 in Stewart County, Ga. she was the daughter of the late Kirk S. and Eddie House Wimberly. On Sept. 7, 1938 in Thomasville, she married William Roland Clayton who preceded her in death. Mrs. Clayton worked for many years at McCollum and Simmons CPA in Thomasville. She was a member of the United Methodist Women’s Circle and the Garden Club. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn Clayton Braun and James V. of Dayton, Ohio, son and daughter-in-law, Williams Roland Clayton Jr. and Kasey of Athens; grandchildren, Benjamin Clayton and Martha, Jennifer Clayton Frost and Dana, David C. Braun, Suzanne Braun, Janine and Karl Borneman, Joyce and Tim Trapp; great-grandchildren, Clayton Frost, Drew and Max Borneman, Robbie, Joey and Jeffrey Trapp; sister, Elizabeth McKinnon of Tallahassee, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. Interment is in Pinecrest Memory Gardens. Mr. Watson died Monday, Jan. 10 at Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville. Born March 8, 1920 in Brantley, Ala., Mr. Watson was the son of the late John Alvin and Lessie Mallette Watson. Survivors include his wife, Glenda Watson of Pelham; a son, John A. Watson III of Orlando, Fla.; a daughter, Diane Watson of Pelham; a stepson, John Maloy of Pelham; three stepdaughters, Georgiann Isreal of Colquitt, Sonya Maloy of Pelham, Stacey Hughes of Albany; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and six step-grandchildren. Kelso Cooper

Services for Kelso Cooper, 87, of Spence Rd., Pelham, are 3 p.m. today at Braswell Chapel. The Rev. Jack Wolfgang II will officiate and interment is in Spring Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers are Aubrey Collins, RL Brannon, Donald Cooper, Tommy Cooper, Mike Cooper and Alvin Mitchell. Born in Thomas County on January 27, 1917, Cooper was the son of the late Deloris Hickey and Young Columbus Cooper. He married the late Christine Christie Cooper on June 21, 1942. Cooper attended First Christian Church of Cairo and was a retired farmer, owner/operator of a grocery store, Grady County Commissioner and Grady County Board of Education member. He died Jan. 7, 2005, at Grady General Hospital in Cairo. Survivors include son and his wife, Chris and Dianne Cooper of Cairo; grandchildren, Gina and Mike Collinsworth of Cairo and Clay and Charisha Cooper of Athens, Ga.; grandchildren, Anna Cooper, Caleb Cooper, Hunter Robinson and Garrett Robinson; sister, Grace Daughtry of Pelham; and fianceé, Vida Mae High of Pelham. - Braswell Funeral Home

Antionette Jones

Graveside services for Antionette Jones, 80, of St. Petersburg, Fla., are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Magnolia Cemetery in Thomasville. Born in New York City, Mrs. Jones graduated from Lincoln High School in Brooklyn, N.Y., the Fordham School of Nursing and All Saints Academy of New York City. Mrs. Jones was a retired pediatric nurse at Flushing Hospital in Long Island, New York and an active member of the Democratic party, where she served as a district leader. She also worked with a shelter for the homeless and a senior citizens program. Mrs. Jones lived in New York before moving to St. Petersburg, Fla. in 2000. She died Jan. 5, 2005, in St. Petersburg, Fla. Survivors include sister, Joyce Nelson of St. Petersburg, Fla.; granddaughters, Antionette Wooldridge of Middletown, N.Y., Gail Dixon and Janeice Vanderlip, both of Queens, N.Y.; grandsons, Lamont Sinkler of Ozone, N.Y. and Thomas Dixon of Queens, N.Y.; five great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. - Hatcher-Peoples Funeral Home

He attended Life Spring Community Church of Moultrie and was the owner/operator of The Glass Shop. Singletary died Jan. 7, 2005, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center. Survivors include wife, Margie Copeland Singletary of Moultrie; mother, Doris Kay Keener Singletary of Hoschton, Ga.; sons, Robert Ted Singletary, Jr. and wife Jackie of Thomasville, Scott Kevin Singletary and wife Terri of Coolidge, Ron Jason Singletary and wife Michelle of LoveJoy, Ga.; sister, Helen Small and husband Herman of Hoschton, Ga.; special friends, George Dewey Stillwell and Michael Chadwick Stillwell; grandchildren, Leaha Singletary, Jordan Singletary, Scott K. Mr. Boyette died Thursday, Jan. 6 in Cairo. Born Feb. 21, 1930 in Grady County, he was a son of the late Robert and Emma Lowe Boyette. On Dec. 29, 1949 in Grady County, he married Ethel Bell Boyette of Cairo. He was a lifetime resident of Cairo, owner and operator of Boyette Oil Co. and retired in 1992 from Drew Oil Co. in Cairo and a member of Long Branch Baptist Church in Cairo. He was served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Survivors include his wife, Ethel Bell Boyette of Cairo; son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Susan Boyette of Cairo; daughters and sons-in-law, Rita and Marcus Smith of Cairo, Rhonda and Allen English of Cairo; brother and sister-in-law, Arthur and Willie Green Boyette of Cairo; grandchildren, Shawn and Karen Boyette of Eatonton, Casey and Jason Mirick of Thomasville, Austin Boyette, Beth Hollingsworth, Katie Alred, Darah English, Allen-Micheal English all of Cairo, Lindsay Smith of Atlanta, Kelley Smith of Macon; and a great-granddaughter, Allyson Mirick of Thomasville. He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and a brother. Graveside services for Eva Mae P. Daniels of Thomas County, Ga., are at 2 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 9, 2005 in Laurel Hill Cemetery on 14th Street. The Rev. Doug Mills will officiate. Mrs. Daniels passed away quietly at the home of her youngest daughter on January 6, surrounded by her children and loved ones after suffering from a long-term illness. Born April 4, 1929 she was the daughter of the late Melvin C. Plymel and Lillie M. Plymel. She is survived by a son, Melvin S. Benton and his wife, Joyce of Goose Creek, S.C.; a daughter, Eva M. Hunter and her husband, Tony of Tallahassee, Fla.; a daughter, Judy C. Haler of Tallahassee; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, a brother, Mayo C. Plymel and his wife Mary of Cairo; and a sister, Thelma Golding of Thomasville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Julian K. Daniels; a daughter, Nancy K. Benton; and a son, Anderson S.
