Services for Harriet J. Scott of Pavo are at 2 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004 at Allen & Allen Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Larry Harris will officiate and interment is in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Scott died Dec. 20, 2004 at her residence. Born May 24, 1917 in Youngstown, Ohio, she was the daughter of Harmon C. and Gertrude Miller Welch. She was married to Walter U. Scott, who preceded her in death. Mrs. Scott was a retired school counselor at Thomasville High School and a member of Pavo Baptist Church, NEA and GAE. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Walter Harmon and Sharon Scott; grandchildren, Walter Harmon Scott Jr. of Jesup, Mary Susan Scott Casey of Statesboro; great-grandchildren, Savannah Scott, Cierra Scott of Jesup, Anna Casey, Brittany Casey, Candace Casey and Trey Casey all of Statesboro. Services for Marie Clark Swain, 87, of Thomasville are at noon, Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004 at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Pavo with the Rev. Estelle Arrington officiating and the Rev. Clarence Parker assisting. Interment is in Mt. Zion Cemetery. Active pallbearers are her grandsons. Mrs. Swain died Friday, Dec. 17 at her residence. Born May 5, 1917, in Wilcox County, Mrs. Swain was the daughter of the late George and Dora Clark. Survivors include five daughters, Mary Medley White and husband Frank White of Wappingers Falls, N.Y., Elaine Cage and Mary E. Morrow and husband Edward Morrow Sr., all of Atlanta, Ann Wright and husband Larry Wright Sr. of Knoxville, Tenn., and Catherine Swain of Thomasville; one son, Freddie Swain Sr. and wife Phecifinese of Albany; 23 grandchildren, Patricia, Daryl, Valerie, Myeka, Renae, Richard, Robin, Johnny Lewis, Joyce, Lewis, Kathy, Troy, Stewart, Saundra, Djana, Cornelius, Christopher, Desmond, Edward, Freddie, Jasmine, Larry and Michael; 25 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Swain Sr.; a daughter, Hattie Mae Swain; and three sons, Arthur Swain Jr., Lewis Swain and Willie James Swain. Services for Bonnie Jean Shierling of Thomasville are at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 20, 2004, at Allen & Allen Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Keith Cowart, the Rev. Ken Webb and the Rev. Sherman Hall will officiate and interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Nephews will be pallbearers. Mrs. Shierling died Dec. 18, 2004, at John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital. Born Nov. 11, 1932, in Brooks County, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Isaac B. and Stella Parker Jones. On Aug. 28, 1955, she married Marcus O. Shierling, who survives. She was a member of Christ Community Presbyterian Church and was a homemaker. Roscoe Cline Wilder

Services for Roscoe Cline Wilder of Thomasville are at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 20, 2004, at Springhill Methodist Church. The Rev. Leigh Ann Raynor, Rev. Waymon Cleveland and Rev. Mike Jones will officiate and interment will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers are Morgan Parker, Bobby Brown, Hank Stringer, Ken Stringer, Mike Lee and Chase Lee. Mr. Wilder died Dec. 17, 2004, at his residence. Born Oct. 8, 1910, in Fenholloway, Fla., he was the son of the late Roscoe Cavner and Shirley Jackson Wilder. On June 9, 1937 at Springhill Methodist Church he married Carolyn Ferrell Wilder, who preceded him in death. Mr. Wilder was a veteran of the United States Navy Air Corp serving during WWII. He received his master’s degree from the University of Florida and was a member of First United Methodist Church. He was a retired Florida Educator and Georgia Tree Farmer and a member of the American Legion, Phi Kappa Phi and a former board member of First United Methodist Church. Survivors include daughter Martha Wilder of Pompano Beach, Fla.; daughter and son-in-law, Margaret Wilder Wingate and David R. Wingate of Cartersville, Ga.; adopted son, Robert Taylor of Thomasville and brother, Willie James Wilder of Mexico Beach, Fla. Mary Emma Estella Sirmans Jones Lilly

Services for Mary Emma Estella Sirmans Jones Lilly, 92, of Thomasville are at 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 19, 2004, at St. Temple First Born Church. The Rev. Elder Rueben Addison and the Rev. Bishop Ira Campbell will officiate and interment will be in Northside Cemetery, Ochlocknee. Active pallbearers are Michael Taylor, Jimmy Brown, Jr., Michael Laing, Keith Howlett, Curtis James, Brian Lilly, and Timothy Campbell. Honorary pallbearers are Morris Laing, Nelson Andrews, Richard Thomas, Willie Jones, Enoch Lee, and Johnnie Byrd. Deaconess Mary Emma Estella Sirmans Jones Lilly was born Dec. 4, 1912, in Clinch County to the union of the late Mary Eady Graham Sirmans Brockington and the late Joseph Sirmans (PaPa). She was the ninth of 10 children - John, Horace, Elizabeth, Wash, Jessie, Huey, Isaiah, Lucile, and Joe, who preceded her in death. She departed this life on Sunday, Dec. 12, 2004. Mrs. Lilly accepted Christ as her personal savior and joined the Church of God in Christ in Clinch County Georgia at an early age. Later, she moved to Thomasville and became a devoted and faithful member of St. Temple First Born Holiness Church under the leadership of the late Bishop Jackson. In addition to serving as the local church treasurer, she was also a member on the Deaconess Board. Mrs. Lilly was appointed District Deaconess of the Thomasville District. She organized and was the first President of the Goodwill Club. Her other many accomplishments include Past Worthy Matron of Hannah’s Pride Chapter 3 O.E. S., Boston, and past President of the All Citizens Pallbearers Charity Society, Thomasville. Services for Mother Ossie Thomas, 80, of Cairo are at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 20, 2004, at the Bethlehem A.M.E. Church in Cairo. The Rev. Willie R. Mitchell, Sr. and the Rev. Willie F. Griffin will officiate, and interment will be in Crestview Cemetery in Cairo. Pallbearers are Mrs. Thomas’ sons and grandsons. Mrs. Thomas died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004 at Grady General Hospital following an extended illness. Born Oct. 25, 1924, in Grady County, she was the daughter of the late Hardy and Elize Cochran-Yates, and a lifelong resident. She was a member of the Saint John Free Will Church, and attended the Grady County School System. She was married to William C. Thomas, Sr., who preceded her in death Jan. 11, 1998. Mrs. Thomas is survived by sons, Lewis (Cassie) Thomas of Pelham, Florzell Thomas and William (Thelma) Thomas, Jr., both of Cairo ; daughters Littie Carter, Vinnie (Albert) Smith, Rosa Mack, Clara (Roger, Sr.) Pierce, Marchell Butler, and Beverly Council, all of Cairo; sister Rossie Calloway of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; brother Simil Yates of Cairo; devoted nephew Samuel Lawson; sister in Christ Juanita Hill of Cairo; goddaughter Evangelist Barbara Hatcher of Thomasville; special friend Deborah (Dell) Smith of Bainbridge.; 28 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren. Graveside services for Karleen Daniel Whaley, 83, of Tallahassee, Fla. are at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004, at Pinecrest Memory Gardens, Pelham. The Rev. Keith Goodlett will officiate. Mrs. Whaley died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004, in Tallahassee. Born Feb. 11, 1921 in Carroll County, she was the daughter of the late Leona Griffin and Robert Jackson Daniel. Mrs. Whaley was a homemaker and a member of Pelham First Baptist Church. She was married to the late Albert Whaley who preceded her in death Feb. 2, 1995. She is survived by a son, A. Robert Whaley and wife Lynette of Tallahassee, Fla., a daughter, Anne W. Dollar of Quitman; two grandchildren, James D. “Jay” Dollar, Jr. and wife Amy of Pelham, Kathryn D. “Kay” and husband Wayne Pierce of Quitman; two great-grandchildren, Colby Pierce of Quitman and Lane Dollar of Pelham. Paul Stanford Clements Sr.

Services for Paul Stanford Clements Sr., 72, of Dixie, are at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004 at Boston Church of God in Boston. The Rev. James Lott and the Rev. Teddy Ray Hunt will officiate and interment is in Grooverville Cemetery. Mr. Clements died Dec. 14 at Archbold Memorial Hospital. Born Nov. 18, 1932 in Colquitt County, Ga., he was a son of the late C.A. Clements Sr. and the late Irene Lampp. On Nov. 30, 1954 in Lowndes County, Ga., he married Genell S. Perry. He was a member of Boston Church of God, a retired farmer and a lifelong resident of Dixie. Survivors include his wife, Genell Perry Clements of Dixie; daughter, Debby Higgs and husband, Bobby of Quitman; sons, Stan Clements and wife, Kim of Dixie, Matthew D. Clements and wife, Jackie of Valdosta; sisters, Hazel Downing and husband, Larry of Valdosta, Joyce Phillips of Cuthbert; nine grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Ruby Marie Cochran

Services for Ruby Marie Cochran, 77, Lloyd, Fla., are at 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 19, 2004 at Beggs Funeral Home Monticello Chapel, Monticello, Fla. Interment is in Springfield Cemetery in Lloyd. Mrs. Cochran died Tuesday, Dec. 14 in Monticello. A native of River Junction, Fla., and a former resident of Chatthoochee, Fla., she lived in Lloyd most of her life. She was the owner and operator of a local grocery store in Lloyd. She was a big part of the community in Lloyd for more than 30 years through her store. For five years she was the secretary to the board of directors of the Jefferson Communities Water System. She also owned Ruby’s Mobile Home Park for 25 years. Mrs. Cochran was also known as a Community Angel for all the goodwill she spread to the elderly and sick. She was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Cochran of Tallahassee, Fla., Sandra Helton of Metcalfe; two sons, Royce Rouse of Metcalfe, Luther Rouse of Lloyd, Fla.; three sisters, Vernice O’Quinn, Joyce Shepherd both of Monticello, Pauline Hutchinson of Chattahoochee, Fla.; a brother, Horace Henderson of Monticello, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She preceded in death by a brother, Amos Henderson. Donations may be made to Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, Fla. 32308. Raymond Scott ‘Scotty’ Lewis

Services for Raymond Scott (Scotty) Lewis of Thomasville, are at 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004 at North Side Baptist Church where he was a member. Interment is in Little Ochlocknee Cemetery. Mr. Lewis died December 14 at Archbold Memorial Hospital. Born Aug. 18, 1939 in Dade County, Fla. he was the son of the late William Raymond and Alice Sutton Lewis. He was married to Betty Earline Atkinson Lewis who preceded him in death on Nov. 18, 2002. Mr. Lewis retired from the industrial maintenance department at National Pipe and Plastic. Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Darrell and Valerie Lewis of Choctaw, Okla., Keith and Ericha Lewis; son, Chad Lewis; daughter, Carrie Lancaster all of Thomasville; five grandchildren; and sister, Mary McRae of McIntosh, Fla. Allie LeeAnn Phillips

Services for Allie LeeAnn Phillips of Cairo are at 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004 at Patten Church of God. The Rev. Vernon Fletcher and the Rev. Greg Player will officiate and interment is in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Allie died Dec. 15 at Archbold Memorial Hospital. Born April 23, 2003 in Thomasville, she was the daughter of Bobby J. and Catherine A. Bradley Phillips who survives. Other survivors include a brother, Hunter V. Phillips of Cairo; grandparents, Cathy A. Bradley, Kenneth R. Bradley both of Thomasville, Eddie J. Phillips, Benita C. Phillips both of Coolidge; uncle, Kendal Bradley of Thomasville; uncles and aunts, Russell J. and Lisa Phillips of Coolidge, Melissa A. and Lennon D. Jameson of Boston; great-grandparents, Vernon D. and Evelyn C. Fletcher, Phillip R. Bradley and Lanell L. Edwards. She was preceded in death by great grandparents, Betty L. Bradley, C. L. Dosh White Jr.

Services for Dosh White Jr. of Detroit, Mich. are at 1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004 at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church with interment in Magnolia Cemetery. Mr. White died Dec. 7. Born Feb. 3, 1940, he was a son of Mary Frazier White and the late Dosh White Sr. He was a laborer of Ford Motor Co. and of the Presbyterian faith. Survivors include his mother, Mary F. White of Detroit; brother, Thomas White of Detroit; sister, Catherine Clark of Thomasville; aunt and uncle, Corine and Fred Davis; daughters and husbands, Sandra Jones (David), Katherine Watts (Gregory Sr.); son, Dosh White III; son and wife, Revennie White (Deannelle); daughter and husband, Mamie Davis (Brian); son, Timothy White; daughters, Elmora White, Robin White; sons, Eugene White, Thomas White all of Detroit; 26 granchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. Vivian Jones Gould

A memorial service for Vivian Jones Gould, 87, of Albany at 5 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004 at Putney United Methodist Church, of Putney, with Pastor Donald Woeltjen officiating. Mrs. Gould died Monday, Dec. 13 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. Mrs. Gould, a native of Thomasville, formerly of Tallahassee Fla., has lived in Albany for the past several years. She was retired from the State of Florida as a research assistant for the Joint Legislature Committee, preparing legislative changes for the State of Florida. She was a member of Putney United Methodist Church and was a previous member of St. Paul No. 8217, United Methodist Church of Tallahassee where she served as secretary of the church board for 17 years. She was an exceptional mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother to a family that she loved dearly. Survivors include a daughter, Patricia L. Young of Albany; a granddaughter, Margaret Young Cravens and her husband Roger of Albany; a great-grandson, Gregory Cravens and his wife Lori of Albany; two great-great-grandchildren, Austan and Lexy Cravens; three sisters, Elsie Jackson of Albany, Emogene Miller and her husband Henry of Brunswick, Janette Miller of Brandon Mo.; a sister-in-law Hilda Jones of Atlanta; 14 nieces and nephews; and six great-nieces and nephews.
