Services for Jane Elizabeth “Betty Jane” O’Quinn June, 85, Moultrie, are at 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004 at First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Dr. Hugh Ward will officiate and interment is in Laurel Hill Cemetery in Thomasville. Active pallbearers are Bill Acuff, Henry Klar, Andrew Christensen, Frank Horkan, Frank O’Quinn and Wayne Harris. Mrs. June died Nov. 3 at Colquitt Regional Medical Center. Born Oct. 22, 1919 in Thomas County, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Lula Mae Cox O’Quinn and Julius Hansford O’Quinn. She was a graduate of Thomas County High School and St. Margaret’s School of Nursing in Montgomery, Ala. She was a retired registered nurse, served in the Army Air Corp Air Evacuation in World War II and a member of First Presbyterian Church in Moultrie. She was married to the late John Denny June. Survivors include daughters, Dr. Patricia Lee June of Moultrie, Jackie Lynne June of Louisville, Ky.; special friend, Linda Witt of Georgetown, Ind.; brother, Douglas O’Quinn of Chatsworth; nieces, Yvonne Norman Harnish, Judy Douglas Daws, Sue Norman, Shelley Douglas and Dawn Gore. Born in Thomas County On Oct. 4, 1947, he was a son of the late Hubert and Annie Mae Pope. He attended school in Attapulgus, a laborer and a member of St. Mary AME Church. He was married to Bernice Pope of Cairo who survives. Born May 20, 1915, in Haleyville, Ala., Mr. Osborn was a plantation manager for Merryway Plantation for 40 years. He died April 28, 2006, at Archbold Memorial Hospital. Ronald R. Suber
Services for Msg. Ronald R. Suber, 41, of Fort Riley, Kan., are 1 p.m. Tuesday at McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd., in Columbus. Chaplain Captain Eddie Kinley will officiate and burial with military honors will follow at Fort Benning Main Post Cemetery at Fort Benning. Born in Pavo, Ronald was the son of Tommy R. Suber and Hazel Delain Suber. He graduated from Thomas County Central High School in 1982 and joined the U.S. Army in 1985. He married Cheryl Bishop on Dec. 23, 1985. During his military career, he served in Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Desert Storm, Egypt and Haiti, and had been stationed in Germany, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Korea, Georgia and Kansas. He had received numerous medals and commendations and was currently serving in the Military Police. Suber died Friday at Irwin Army Community Hospital in Fort Riley. Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Cheryl B. Suber of Fort Riley; daughters, Ashley B. Suber of Fort Polk, La. and Alicia R. Suber of Fort Riley; parents, Tommy and Hazel Suber of Pavo; grandmother, Ruth Perry of Moultrie; sisters, Brenda Elkins and husband Terry of Cairo and Michele Suber of Nelson, British Columbia, Canada; and, nieces, Joanie Suber and Amber Suber. Ann Faircloth Wight
Services for Ann Faircloth Wight are at 11 a.m., Friday, April 28, 2006, at First United Methodist Church in Cairo. Interment services follow at 3:30 p.m., in Perry, Fla., in Woodlawn Cemetery. Mrs. Wight died on Wednesday, April 26 at her residence. Born Oct. 2, 1937, in Perry, Fla., she was a daughter of the late Judson Baldwin and Dorothy Culpepper Faircloth. She was married to the late James Slater Wight Jr. She graduated from Taylor County High School in 1955 and attended Florida State University where she received her bachelor of science degree. She received her master’s and educational specialist degrees from Valdosta State University. A teacher for 33 years, she taught social studies at Cairo High School from 1972 to 1985. She then taught at Taylor County High School in Perry, Fla., from 1985 to 2004. She was also an adjunct professor for North Florida Community College. She was a Fulbright Scholar and traveled to both Egypt and China in this capacity. She retired in 2004, and enjoyed golfing, bridge, exercise class and time with her many friends. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Perry and attended First Methodist Church in Cairo. As a member of the Cairo Woman’s Club, the Magnolia Club and Cairo Ladies Golf Association, Mrs. Wight enjoyed her retirement. Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret and Jeff Binkley of Atlanta, Azalee W. and Cary Vereen of Camilla, Dolly and Bud Stringer of Moultrie; nine grandchildren, James Slater Wight IV, Sean and Maura Binkley, John, Virginia and Patrick Vereen, Albert and Slater Stringer; two brothers, John Faircloth of Tampa, Fla., and Frank “Bump” Faircloth of Perry, Fla. He was a veteran of the United States Army and Reserves and a former city councilman. On Nov 30, 1963, he married Ellen Peeples Terrell who survives.
