Mrs. Donna Ellison Bozarth
2006-09-13

Donna Ellison Bozarth passed away on Sept. 6, 2006 after a long bout with Leukemia.

Memorial graveside services will be held 11 a.m. today (Wednesday, Sept. 13) at Jenkins Family Cemetery in Sardis. The family received friends at DeLoach-Kennedy Funeral Home 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12.

Donna was born April 4, 1960 and grew up in Sardis. She graduated from S.G.A. High School in 1978, where she was a triple threat: She was voted Most Intellectual, Cutest and Most Athletic in her senior class. She was also the class salutatorian. She attended Berry College in Rome, and after graduating, she worked in Augusta before moving to Durham, N.C., where she worked at Duke University and then the Research Triangle Institute as a research chemist.

Donna married Cecil Bozarth in 1992 and gave birth to a son, Phillip in 1995. At the time of her death, she was a resident of Chapel Hill, N.C.

She was a gentle soul, an artist and a loving mother and wife. She will be greatly missed.

In addition to her husband and son she is survived by her father and mother, Eugene and Eva Nell Ellison of Sardis; five brothers, Derrel, Darwin, Richard, Dean and Kevin Ellison; three sisters, Debra Royal, Delaine Russell and Kelli Collins; and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, Donna requested that donations be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Donor Services, P.O. Box 4072, Pittsfield, MA 01202.

Mrs. Mattie Lee Outlaw Oglesby

Mattie Lee Outlaw Oglesby departed this life Saturday, Sept. 9, 2006 at University Hospital in Augusta.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, at Clear Spring Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Boyd officiating.

Viewing will be held in the church 1-2 p.m.

Mrs. Oglesby was a retired educator of the CSRA EOA Head Start Program. Her husband, Abe Oglesby, and two brothers, Dewey Outlaw Jr. and Dr. Bobby C. Outlaw Sr., pre- ceded her in death.

She was a devoted daughter and caretaker to her surviving mother, Aree Lee Outlaw. She is also survived by a brother, James Outlaw; a sister, Louise Daniels; sister-in-law, Hattie F. Outlaw; devoted cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Scott Sr.; an aunt, Estelle Burgess; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Mr. Jacob "Lee" Carter Jr.

Mr. Jacob "Lee" Carter Jr., 90, of Waynesboro died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2006.

Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 1, at R o s e m o n t Heights Baptist Church in Waynesboro with the Revs. Ellis Taff and Keith Alderman officiating.

Interment followed at Burke Memorial Gardens.

The family received friends 6- 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, at DeLoach-Kennedy Funeral Home.

Mr. Carter was born Aug. 5, 1916 in Waynesboro. He retired after working for 40 plus years with National Life & Accident Co., now American General. He worked with the CCC, Civilian Conservation Corp., during the Great Depression in the 1930s and was a past member of the Rotary Club, head of Burke County Civil Defense, life-long supporter of many recreation and sports activities including coach of little league and American Legion baseball in the county. He was an umpire in the old Ogeechee Baseball League. His greatest loves were his family, his church and his flowers.

He was a charter member of Rosemont Heights Baptist Church and served on the Missions Committee at First Bap- tist Church in the founding of Rosemont. He served in numerous leadership positions in the church including deacon emeritus, trustee, church council and Sunday School director.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Virginia Elizabeth Posey Carter; a son and daughter in-law, Billy and Carolyn Carter of White Plains; a daughter and son-in-law, Jeanie and Edwin Stephens of Waynesboro; a daughter, Linda Carter of Columbia, S.C.; four grandchildren, Bill Carter Jr., Ken Stephens, Scott Carter, and Sadie Waters; seven great-grandchildren, Ashton Stephens, Megan Hillis, Malorie Carter, Paige Stephens, Rebecca Carter, Cale Waters and Logan Waters; a brother, William Broadus Carter of Waynesboro; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Broadus "Bud" Carter Jr., Eddie Carter, Otis Glover, Clay Hooper, Don Ward, Lewis Foster, Bobby Posey and Jimmy Posey.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Rosemont Heights Baptist Church Building Fund, 710 Stone Ave., Waynesboro, GA 30830.

Richard Alvin Johnson

Richard Alvin Johnson, 62, of Vidette, beloved husband and father, passed away peacefully Sunday, Dec. 3, 2006 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, at Green Fork Baptist Church in Perkins with Dr. James Ray Freeman Sr. officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetery.

The family received friends at DeLoach-Kennedy Funeral Home in Waynesboro 6-8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 4.

Born March 31, 1944 to Kathleen Wright Johnson and the late Thomas Allen Johnson of Cordele, he grew up on a farm in Warwick, developing a lifelong love of agriculture and the outdoors. He graduated from Crisp County High School and from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. While in college, he entered the military and served a tour of duty in the Republic of Vietnam. He returned to the states and married Emma Lee Parker on June 7, 1969, before finishing his bachelor's degree at the University of Georgia. He received his master's degree in leadership from Georgia Southern University.

He spent the next 37 years raising a family and working in the agricultural and educational fields. He enjoyed several careers, including agricultural teacher and farm manager. He was employed with Ogeechee Mental Health Services at the Burke County Service Center at the time of his death. He was also a member of the American Legion and Green Fork Baptist Church, where he served for many years as a Sunday School teacher and deacon. His honesty and integrity provided a Christian witness to all he met.

He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Allen Johnson, and his father-in-law, Emory Parker.

Richard is survived by his wife, Emma Lee Parker Johnson; two daughters, Pamela Anne Johnson and Amy Janan Johnson Filson and her husband, William Filson; a grandson, Ford Filson; his mother, Kathleen Wright Johnson; sister and brother-in-law, Ava and Jim Hrodey; mother-in-law, Rosie Parker; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Louis and Debbie Parker; and many nieces and nephews.

Richard and his love of fun and humor will be sorely missed by his family and many friends.

James Raymond Kelley Jr.

James Raymond Kelley Jr., 72, died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2006 at the VA Hospital in Augusta.

Graveside services will be held 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, 2006 at Sardis Baptist Cemetery with the Rev. Tim Brown officiating.

He was born Nov. 10, 1934 in Miami, Fla., to James R. Kelley Sr. and Ruby Rackley Kelley. He was a retired truck driver for Carolina Freight and was a veteran of the U. S. Army.

He is survived by a sister, Jackie Thompson of Sardis; a nephew, Bruce Ray Thompson of Oak Hills, Calif.; a niece, Robin T. Kimler of Springdale, Ark.; six great-nieces; six greatnephews; two great-great nieces; and one great-great nephew.

Sewell Clifford Peckham

Sewell Clifford Peckham, 25, of Waynesboro entered into rest Saturday, Dec. 2, 2006.

Funeral services will be held 5 p.m. today (Wednesday, Dec. 6) at Poteet Funeral Homes South Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Dixon officiating.

The family will receive friends 3-5 p.m. today (Wednesday, Dec. 6) at the funeral home.

Mr. Peckham was formerly of Old Bridge, New Jersey. He was employed by OMI in Waynesboro. He received certified training for the Air Force ROTC in high school and was an avid fisherman.

Family members include his mother, Barbara Scadding of Waynesboro; his father and stepmother, Donald and Melody Peckham of Palatka, Fla.; a sister, Christa Noftsier of Augusta; stepsisters, Samantha and Brandy Pothero, both of Palatka, Fla.; a fiancée, Tracy Johnson of Harlem; paternal grandmother, Doris Peckham of Florida; and paternal grandfather, Sewell Peckham of New Jersey.

Harris Ivey

Harris Laverne Ivey, 69, of Waynesboro died Monday, March 21, 2005.

Funeral services were held 3 p.m. Thursday, March 24, at Oak Hill Baptist Church.

Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Ivey was born in Bulloch County, was a retired police chief for the city of Waynesboro, a member of the Chiefs of Police Association and attended Burkehaven Chapel.

He started his 35-year career in law enforcement in Belzoni, Miss., came home to Statesboro for 13 years and moved to Waynesboro and served on the Waynesboro Police force for 19 years. He was police chief for 13 years before retiring in 1996.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Carolyn I. Dailey, and grandson, Victor Ivey. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Shelvy Jean Jenkins Ivey of Waynesboro; three sons and daughters-in-law, Ricky (Reta) Ivey of Sylvania, A. Terry (Judy Taylor) Ivey and R. Juan (Loretta) Ivey, all of Waynesboro; eight grandchildren and a granddaughter-in-law, Chad (Bonnie) Ivey of High Springs, Fla., L Cpl. Adam Ivey USMC of Camp Pendleton, Calif., Shelby Nichole "Nikki" Ivey, Heather Ivey, Justin Ivey, Brett Ivey and Ashley Ivey, all of Waynesboro; two step-grandchildren, Tiffany and Steven Leiby, both of Waynesboro; two great-grandchildren, Michael and Caleb Ivey of High Springs, Fla.; two sisters, Frances Murphy of Stilson and Yvonne Zelt of Statesboro; three brothers, Pat Ivey of Brooklet, Timmy Ivey of Stilson and Bobby Ivey of Portal.

Pallbearers were active and retired law enforcement officers.

Memorials may be made to the Kidney Foundation.

Frank E. Long Jr. of Girard passed away Saturday, March 12, 2005 in Cleveland, Tenn.

A memorial service will be conducted 4 p.m. Saturday, April 2, at Sardis Baptist Church.
