Ethel Livonia Anderson Herrin, 91, diedFriday, Sept. 10 at her home after an extended illness. She was a member of New Hope Freewill Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, N.O. (Bud) Herrin and four sons, Billy Herrin, Vernon Herrin, Fleming Herrin and Lamar Herrin. Ms. Anderson is survived by four daughters, Josephine Tire, Faye and her husband Chubby Griffis, Dale and her husband Roger Anderson of Jesup, Etheleen and her husband Kenneth Gilder of Fernandina Beach, FL; seven sons, Ernie and his wife Frances Herrin of Brunswick, Herbert and his wife Joyce Herrin of Valdosta, Bobby and his wife Linda Herrin, Jimmy Herrin, Benny and his wife Erika Herrin, Ray and his wife Sharon Herrin of Odum and Charles and his wife Sharon Herrin of Screven; three daughters-in-law, Christine Reichert of Jesup, Ann Weitman of Montgomery and JoNell Herrin of Glennville; two sisters, Vestie Murray of Jesup and Adele Thompson of Dublin; 40 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12 at New Hope Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Billy Livesay, the Rev. Michael Crews and the Rev. Archie Griffis officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Pallbearers are grandsons. Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Rev. Orville L. Ferris
Rev. Orville L. Ferris, 75, diedWednesday, Sept. 8 at St. Vincents Medical Center in Jacksonville, FL, following an extended illness. A native of Lansing, MI, he was a son of the late J.C. Ferris and Alice Crum Ferris. He was also preceded in death by his sons, Dennis Ferris and Timothy Ferris and a sister, Juanita Keene and a brother, Joe Ferris. He was a current pastor of Akin Memorial United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant. He had previously pastored at Nahunta United Methodist Church/Pierce Chapel; Winona Park UMC; Waycross, Emanuel UMC; Brunswick; Ludowici UMC as well as Middleton Memorial UMC. For 26 years he pastored in the Church of Nazarene in Michigan. He was educated at Olivet Nazarene College in Kankakee, IL and Emory University in Atlanta. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. In 1990, he received the Harry Denman Award for Evangelism. Rev. Ferris is survived by his wife of 29 years, Naomi Reed Ferris of Waynesville; four daughters, Terri Lynn Rolfe of Kankakee, IL, Jeri Cooper of Mt. Rose, MI, Kim Sanders and Kay Brown, both of Waynesville; two sons, Kenneth Sanders of Jesup, and Keith Sanders of Brunswick; a sister, Donna Swenson of Flushing, MI; 21 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 4 p.m. from the Nahunta United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Rush, Rev. Randy Mosley and Rev. Gordon Dukes officiating. Burial will follow in the Akin Memorial United Methodist Church Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Shelton Mercer, Tracy Altman, Wendell Harrell, Tim Bennett, Thomas Proudfoot, Ricky Proudfoot, Richard Wells and Ed Long. Virgil Perry Robinson
Virgil Perry Robinson, 82, diedTuesday, Sept. 7 at Washington County Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. Mr. Robinson was a native of Coffee County, the son of the late William Jesse Robinson and the late Bennie Clyde Roberson Robinson. He was a retired parts salesman with Riner Auto Parts and a Army veteran of World War II. He was also a member of the V.F.W. Mr. Robinson is survived by a niece, Jackie Dekle of Jesup; a nephew, Ralph L. Parks Jr. of Jasper, FL and six great nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Thursday, Sept. 9, at Lang’s Chapel. Burial was at Josey’s Chapel Cemetery in Davisboro. Pallbearers were Tom Brett, Bobby Hendricks, Cliff Sheppard, Les Parks, David Parks and Russell Riner. Lang’s Chapel of Sandersville was in charge of these arrangements.
Edith Coleman
Edith Coleman, 92, of Brunswick, diedSunday, Nov. 7, after a short illness. The Tattnall County native had lived in Brunswick the past 56 years. She was a homemaker and a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church in Brunswick. She was a seamstress and member of the Crochet Class of Sears Manor. She was the widow of Thomas Watson Coleman and was preceded in death by a son, Merrin Tillman. Mrs. Coleman is survived by four daughters, Mary Woods and Marjorie Cothern, both of Brunswick, Gwen Poppell of Nowata, OK, and Dodie Griffith of Eatonton; three sons, Marvin “Bud” Coleman of Brunswick, Thomas W. “Red” Coleman and Raleigh Coleman, both of Jesup; a sister, Rose Morris of Jacksonville, FL; 31 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, from Calvary Baptist Church in Brunswick with the Rev. Ron Stinson officiating. iIntermentwill be in the Palmetto Cemetery. Donna Kay Green, 47, of Forsyth, diedThursday, Nov. 4, in the Medical Center of Macon after a short illness. The Wayne County native had lived in Forsyth the past 13 years and was a member of the First Assembly of God in Forsyth and a member of Beta Chi Chapter of Epsilom Sigma Alpha International and was a Red Cross volunteer for the past five years. Ms. Green is survived by her mother, Ophenia Wasdin Green of Screven; a sister, Deborah G. Harvey of Rockledge, FL; a brother, David Frye of Screven; a roommate and friend, Beverly Aldridge of Forsyth; two daughters, Jennifer Aldridge and Angel Aldridge, both of Forsyth; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday from the Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Brock and Dr. Ron Wilcox officiating. iIntermentwas in the Screven City Cemetery. Fannie (Johnson) Stephens, 88, diedThursday, Nov. 4, at Sunbridge Nursing Home in Brunswick. Mrs. Stephens was a native of Wayne County and had been a resident of Glynn County for the past 87 years. She was a member of the Golden Isles Church of God and the Sanctuary Sunday School Class of the church. Mrs. Stephens is survived by four sons, Ernest G. Stephens, Edward (Bud) Stephens, Lynch (Doogie) Stephens and Sam Stephens, all of Brunswick; three sisters, Nellie Crews and Retha Sapp, both of Brunswick and Louis Morgan of Waynesville; and a brother, Joe Johnson of Jacksonville, FL; 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, a great-great-granchild and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Nov. 7 from the Golden Isles Church of God with interment following in Palmetto Cemetery. The Rev. Jack Reynolds and the Rev. Bobby Tatum officiating. She was a native of Jackson, MS, but had lived in Orlando, FL, for many years before moving to Appling County 18 months ago. She was a member of St. Paul Holiness Church. She is survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Holiness Church. Burial will follow in Jesup City Cemetery. She was homemaker and the widow of Arvel E. Lane. She is survived by two sisters, Grace Scott of Odum and Sadie Flowers of Jesup; two brothers, Perry Flowers and Bill Flowers, both of Jesup; and several nieces and nephews. She was a homemaker who enjoyed fishing, gardening, antique collecting and was a bird enthusiast. She is survived by her husband, Keith A. Asmus of Bastings, NE; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Lana Garcia and Richard and Kathy Garcia, all of Lincoln, NE; three daughters and sons-in-law, Debra M. and John Swain of Fairfield, NE, Marylee A. and Craig Sievers, and Margaret E. and Brad K. Alvin W. Drawdy, 70, diedFriday, May 5. He was a retired electrician J.P. Stevens, a former member of the Tifton Police Department and a member of Northside Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Perry Moore Drawdy and Lena Clements Drawdy and three brothers. He is survived by his wife, Judith Frasier Drawdy of Lenox; a son, Andrell Joe Drawdy (Brenda) of Tifton; a daughter, Joyce Franks (Randy) of Jesup; two brothers, Dr. James Drawdy of Hialeah, FL, and Ben Drawdy of Nashville; three sisters, Pauline Wetherington of Tallahassee, FL, Evelyn Stewart of Athens and Beatrice James of Pearson; and three grandchildren, Doug Drawdy, Justin Franks and Gina Franks. Irene Lightsey Nichols, 91, diedJune 13 in the Wayne Memorial Hospital in Jesup. The Evans County native was a former resident of Charleston, SC and Interlachen, FL, before moving to Wayne County in 1976. She was the widow of George Durward Nichols and a member of the First Baptist Church, the Dogwood Garden Club and the D.A.R. She was a registered nurse. Mrs. Nichols is survived by two step-sons and step-daughters-in-law, Jerry and Geneva Nichols of Jesup, and Mike and Pam Nichols of Pensacola, FL; six grandchildren, Nick Nichols, Daniel L. Nichols, Maude Franceschina, Melony Scott-Buscher, Anna Nichols and Catherine Nichols; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held June 15 at the Jesup First Baptist Church with Dr. Felix Haynes officiating. Active pallbearers were Jones Nichols, Charles Nichols, Freddie Alexander, George Dart, Nick Nichols and Dan Nichols. Jane Stewart Simmons, 73, of Savannah, formerly of Jesup, diedJune 11 after an extended illness. The Wayne County native was a retired registered nurse. She was a member of Ben Gibbs Chapter Order of Eastern Star. Survivors are three daughters, Leitha S. Morris of Midway, Sue S. Whaley of Statesboro, and Teresa S. Berry of Savannah; a sister, Meta Bass of Charlotte, NC; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside funeral services were held June 14 from Jesup City Cemetery. Lester Dixon
Lester Dixon, 77, passed away Tuesday, June 13 in the Augusta VA Medical Center. Mr. Dixon was bornin Jenkins County, but had resided in Jesup since 1954. He was a World War II veteran and a cabinet maker. Mr. Dixon is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda and Tommy Elton of Hazlehurst and Sharon and Ralph Sheffield of Screven; a son and daughter-in law, Mike and Renee Dixon of Jesup; two sisters, Elizabeth Rowell of Hazlehurst and Pearl Livingston of Jacksonville, FL; three brothers, Frank Dixon of Blackville, SC, Cecil Dixon of Casselberry, FL and Barney Roth Dixon of Jacksonville; three grandchildren, Josh Elton of Hazlehurst, Brad Sheffield of Screven, and Tori Stroud of Jesup. Funeral services were held Friday in the Miles Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Dewain Joiner, the Rev. Terry Sellers and the Rev. Leroy Spivey officiated with burial in the Hazlehurst City Cemetery in Jeff Davis County.
