Lyons -- Delores B. Perkins, 62, of Lyons diedJanuary 29, 2006, at Medical Regional Medical Center of Vidalia after an extended illness. She was a native of Chicago, Ill., residing in Lyons for the past 15 years. She was a homemaker and a member of Liberty Baptist Church of Hazlehurst. She is survived by seven daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and Anthony Anderson of Jesup, Tracy and Bill Zimmerman of Hudson, Ind., Karen and Anthony Emerick and Kathy and Chad NeSmith both of Vidalia, Krissy and Derrick Oliver of Collins, Dottie and Barney Hutcheson of Lyons, and Connie Jo and Garrett Durrence of Glenville; one son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Nikole Perkins of Vidalia; one sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Terry Taylor of Hazlehurst; and 16 grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Feb. 2 at 2 p.m. from Ronnie L. Stewart Family Funeral Service Chapel of Vidalia with the Rev. Bill Vansant officiating. iIntermentwill follow in Pinecrest Cemetery. Edward Francis Maske
Screven - Edward Francis Maske, 67, diedJan. 27, 2006, in Wayne County Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. He was a native of Jackson, Mich., residing in Georgia for the past 30 years. He retired from the United States Navy after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Navy Fleet Reserves and attended Screven Church of God. He is survived by his wife of 35 years Betty Jean Maske; two step-daughters, Joann Webb and Bobbie Jean Thornton both of Brunswick; one step-son, Jackie L. Harris of Screven; two children, Edward Lawrence Maske and Natalie Maske both of Erie, Penn.; one sister, Jackie Seamon of Parma, Mich.; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one niece and two nephews. Funeral services were held Jan. 29 from Screven Church of God with the Rev. Terry Jones officiating. iIntermentwas in Old Ritch Cemetery with full military honors. Antonio LeShon Atkins
Jesup -- Antonio LeShon Atkins, 21, of Wayne County passed away on April 28, 2006 in Albany. He was bornMarch 20, 1985, to Rhonda Atkins of Waycross and Don Thomas of Jesup. He was raised by Lillie Mae McGill of Gardi and Essie McGill of Jesup. He was a 2003 graduate of Wayne County High School and a student at Albany State University. He was a prominent athlete both in high school and at Albany State University, where he led the Golden Rams to three state championships. He was loved by many and will be sorely missed by all. Survivors include his mother, Rhonda Atkins; his father, Don Thomas; his custodial mother, Lillie Mae McGill; seven brothers and four sisters-in-law, Sgt. First Class Gregory and Sharon Moundine of Killeen, Texas, Elder Timothy and Cheryl Thomas of Statesboro, Marvin Atkins of Waycross, Eldren and Carolyn McGill of Jesup, Elmer McGill of Gardi, Terry McGill of Brunswick and Jimmy Ray and Patricia McGill of Biloxi, MIss.; eight sisters and one brother-in-law, Shantelle Williams of Nahunta, Cholie Thomas and Lencola Thomas of Waycross, Keisa Atkins, Alyssa Atkins and Jamie Blake, all of Waycross, Lena and James West of Screven, and Essie McGill of Jesup; his grandparents, Lillie and Ramon Collins of Nahunta and Lee Thomas of Jesup; a very close and devoted friend, LaShica McCrary of Atlanta; and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family gives a special thanks to Elliott Funeral Home Inc. of Albany and restoration art work that was performed on their loved one. Solomon “Ranell” Elliott
Screven -- Solomon “Ranell” Elliott, 90, of Screven diedMay 4, 2006, after an extended illness. The White County native had lived in Wayne County most of his life. He was a retired cabinet maker and was a member and former deacon of Old Bethel Baptist Church. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army and was predeceased by his wife, Mary Elizabeth (Lizzie) Elliott. Survivors are a son, Donald Elliott of Screven; his companion, Clarice Goober of Odum; three grandchildren, Joan Elliott Brown, Lisa Elliott, both of Screven and Jeff Elliott Sr. of Jesup; 8 great-grandchildren, Shannon Gill-Moody, the Rev. Gabriel A. Gill, Heather D. Gill, Britney D. Elliott, Trinity Elliott, Jeffrey Elliott Jr., Travis Elliott and Shane Elliott; two step-great-grandchildren, Michele Brown Manning, Joseph A. Brown Jr.; 12 great-great-grandchildren; two step-great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral were held May 5 from Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Larry Harris, the Rev. Gabriel Gill and the Rev. Alvin Gill officiating. iIntermentwas in Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery. Geraldine "Gerry" Miles Gardner
Patterson -- Geraldine "Gerry" Miles Gardner, 84, passed away May 2, 2006, at her residence following a short illness. Born Feb. 6, 1922, in Thomas County near Pavo, she was the youngest daughter of George W. and Ada Mae Branch Miles. She moved with her family at an early age to Blackshear where her father was engaged in the turpentine business. She attended Blackshear Elementary School and graduated from Blackshear High School in 1938. After graduation she attended college at Valdosta State for five quarters before transferring to Georgia Southern Teacher’s College in Statesboro to qualify for a teaching position. At that time six quarters were sufficient to teach school in Pierce County. She taught one year at Satilla Grammar School and one year at Alabaha Grammar School before going to Washington, D.C., to work for the F.B.I. during World War II. She returned home in the summer of 1946 and entered the University of Georgia, graduating in the spring of 1948 with a degree in home economics. Along with her degree she received a “transfusion of red and black corpuscles that she never lost.” She saw to it that each of her family members received a similar transfusion. She accepted a teaching position at Patterson High School in the fall of 1948. During her first year in Patterson she met and marriedJoseph W. Gardner. They were marriedat 4 p.m. June 30, 1949, at the Blackshear First Baptist Church by the Rev. Lester Dixon and made their home in Patterson for 57 years. She continued to teach home economics in high school in Patterson and Blackshear, first grade in Patterson, Fourth District in Appling County, Southwood School in Waycross and Screven Elementary School in Screven. She retired in June 1985 because of ill health. She and her husband have been members of the Patterson Baptist Church since May of 1959 serving in church and Sunday School work. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a sister,
Lucille Miles Bowen; both of her brothers, Earl Miles and Johnny Miles; a grandson, Scott Alan Gardner; and her son-n-law, John Cordell. Survivors include her husband, Joseph W. Gardner of Patterson; three children and their spouses, Linda Leah Gardner Cordell of St. Simons Island, Gerald and Missy Gardner and Joseph and Annette Gardner, all of Patterson; two sisters, Waunell Miles Strickland of Mershon and Bertie Belle Miles of Blackshear; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Funeral services were held May 6, 2006, at 11 a.m. from the Patterson Baptist Church. iIntermentwas in the Patterson Cemetery. Mary Lou Slover
Jesup -- Mary Lou Slover, 59, of Jesup diedMay 2, 2006, at her residence after a brief illness. The Fulton County native lived in Jesup most of her life, and retired from teaching after 31 years, most recently at Oak Vista Elementary. She was a member of Jesup First United Methodist Church and choir, and an accomplished vocalist. She was one of the needle work artists who created the 18-foot altar pad for First United Methodist Church. She was predeceased by her parents, John Waring and Lucille Murphy Slover. Survivors are her dog, Sugar; uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. R.W. “Buck” Murphy of Jesup; cousins, Susan Majette and Don Carson of Athens, Robert Michael and Cathy Murphy, Ellen Anne and Larry Smith, all of St. Simons Island, Katherine Wilson and Wally Orrel of Townsend, Roswell and Melba Murphy of Jesup; and other relatives. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Bobbie and Ronald Shelton of Cookeville, Tenn.; three grandsons, Kevin and Jennifer Shelton, Greg Shelton and David Shelton, all of Cookeville, Tenn.; three great-grandchildren, Justin, Kristin and Megan. Betty Way Paige
Jesup - Betty Way Paige, 52, of Jesup diedMonday, June 12, 2006 in Wayne Memorial Hospital after a long illness. A native and life-long resident of Wayne County, Paige was a member of More Than Conquerors Ministries in Jesup. She is survived by her husband, Michael Paige of Jesup; two sons, Bernard Way and Marle Lurry r., both of Macon; two sisters, the Rev. Mary Ellis and Brenda A. Kendrick, both of Jesup; two brothers and their wives, Ruffin and Tessie Way of Los Angeles, Calif., and John and Zell of Jesup; six grandchildren; and a host of other relatives. Funeral services were Saturday at 11 a.m. at Emory Chapel United Methodist Church. The pastor, the Rev. Juance Wilson and the Rev. David Jones officiated. Burial was in Jesup City Cemetery. Visitation was Friday from 6 to 7 p.m. at Royal Funeral Home.
Frederick King
Jesup - Frederick King, 51, of Jesup diedMonday, June 12, 2006 in Memorial Medical Center after a long illness. The Appling County native had lived in Wayne County most of his life. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He is survived by one daugther, Cedrick King of Tampa Fla.; one son, Orlando JOnes of Jesup; one sister, Earlene Gibbs of Thomasville; four brothers and their wives, Robert and Carolyn Grant Jr. of Landinwalk, N.J.; James C. and Mae Grand of Jesup; Jimmie and Cheryl Grant of Ludowici and Edward Biggs of Hollywood, Fla.; and eight grandchildren. Furneral services were Saturday at 3 p.m. at Morning Glory Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bruce Rountree officiating. Burial was in Jesup City cemetery. Glynn E. 'Papa Bud' Chadwick, 69, of Odum diedNov. 7, 2006, in Memorial Medical Center of an apparent heart attack. The Wayne County native was a member of Crossroads Church of God. He was a farmer and former employee of Rayonier. He was predeceased by a daughter, Kathy Chadwick Bloom; his parents, Bertha and Steede Chadwick; three brothers, Terry Chadwick, James Chadwick and Carroll Chadwick; and one sister, Bernice Mallard. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Stephanie Chadwick of Odum; a granddaughter, Faith “Punkin” Chadwick of Odum; one brother, M.L. Chadwick of Odum; three sisters, Vera Moore of Odum, Geraldine Bridges of Lumber City, and Sarah Chadwick of Odum; and several nieces and nephews.
