Linton Stevens Reddish Jr

Linton Stevens Reddish Jr., 80, of Screven diedJune 22, 2007, in Wayne Memorial Hospital. Born to Maude Harris and Linton Stevens Reddish Sr., on Dec. 24, 1926. He was the youngest of seven children. He attended local schools in Appling County and served as a Fireman First Class, V-6, in the United States Navy during World War II. After serving in the U.S. Navy, he became an automobile mechanic, retiring in Jacksonville, Fla., in 1982. He was a Baptist by faith and a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. He relocated to Screven in the 1990s. He is survived by his wife of 10 years, Mabel Fowler Reddish of Screven; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Carol Reddish and John Michael of Jacksonville, Fla., and Debra Reddish and Gene Triozzi of Hollis, N.H.; two grandsons, Alex Michael and Drew Michae; special nephew, Dean Horton of Screven; a sister, Avy Olliff of Screven; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held June 26 from Old Big Creek Primitive Baptist with Elder Alvin Johnson and Elder Clark Lee officiating. iIntermentwas in Big Creek Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Ronnie Reddish, Jim Reddish, Tyrone Thornton, Nick Olliff, Alex Michael and Drew Michael. Memorials may be made to Hospice of South Georgia Building Fund, 117 Drennon Drive, Jesup, GA 31545. Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Arthur Brown III

Arthur Brown III, 60, of Jesup diedJune 22, 2007, at home after a short illness. The Coffee County native had lived in Wayne County most of his life. He was a former employee of The Press-Sentinel and Altamaha Healthcare for more than 20 years. He is survived by his wife, Betty L. Brown of College Park; one daughter and son-in-law, Tammy S. and William Small of Brunswick; one sister and brother-in-law, Mary L. and Milton Mitchell of Springfield; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Burley and Clydie Ray of Tallahassee, Fla., and Donald Ray of Jesup; two grandchildren; and a host of other relatives. Funeral services will be today (Wednesday) at 2 p.m. at Greater St. James Temple Holiness Church in Screven. Suff. Bishop A.D. Green will officiating. Burial will be in Screven City Cemetery. Royal Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ernest Dale Wykle

Ernest Dale Wykle, 44, of Wayne County diedMay 25, 2007, in the Southeast Georgia Regional Medical Center in Brunswick. He was a member of Odum Church of God. He was a former large equipment operator and welder. He was predeceased by his mother, Emma "Pearl" Wykle, and his father, Hubert Wykle. Survivors include his wife, Helen C. Wykle; two brothers, Joe Wykle and Franklin Lockhart; one sister, Jessie Wood Howard; one nephew, Billy Douberly; five step-grandchildren, Jessica, Haley, and Kristen Knowles of Savannah, and Brandi Poole and Shane Mainor both of Jesup; six step-great grandchildren, Zachary Mainor, Kristen and Zane Poole, and Mallory Knowles all of Jesup, and James Daniel Mainor and Skyler Alexis Denison. Survivors also include his friends of 22 years, Norma Jean Harless, Don and Diane Crawford, Dennis and Cheryl Mainor and Tony Harless; a companion, Katrina Pelky; and a special friend, Laura Miller.

Roy Wright Jr.

Roy “Edwin” Wright Jr., 49, of Screven diedJune 18, 2007, at his residence. The Wayne County native was a member of Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church and was the owner of South Georgia Counter Tops and Woodworking in Screven. He was a member of the Screven Masonic Lodge No. 368 F.&A.; M., loved cooking and was predeceased by his parents, Roy Edwin and Grace Aspinwall Wright. Survivors include two sons, Colby E. Wright and Chance Wright, both of Screven; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Jayne and Donnie Whitaker of Waycross, Grace and John Perreault of Charleston, S.C., and Debbie and David Sampson of Thomasville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services were held June 22 from Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church in Appling County with the Rev. Steve Hughes and the Rev. Lynn Harris officiating. iIntermentwas in Screven City Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Shawn McGowan, Key Roberson, Isham Roberson, George Roberson, Will Tyre and Hank Corbitt. Honorary pallbearers were Darrell Wasdin, Jason Wasdin, Tony Griffis, McKie McReady, Clay Tyre, Robert Todd, Stephen Ellis, Derrick Ellis and Eddie Ellis. Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Leon Wasdin

Leon Wasdin, 68, of Screven, diedJune 10, 2007, in Memorial Medical Center in Savannah. The Wayne County native was a member of the Screven First Baptist Church and was the owner and operator of L&M; Produce. He was predeceased by his parents, Wade Wasdin and Beulah Welch; a sister, Shirley Wasdin; and a brother, Carroll Wasdin. Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Millie K. Wasdin of Screven; a son and daughter-in-law, Howard and Debbie Wasdin of Jesup; four daughters, Rebecca Lynn Markel of Clarksville, Tenn., Tammy Lynette Gillican of Brunswick, Sue Anne Lassin of Screven and Brittney Marzullo of Statesboro; a brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Sally Wasdin of Jesup; a half-sister, Marthine Hutchinson of Callahan, Fla.; two aunts, Janie Wasdin of Callahan, Fla., and Abbie Lee Griffis of Jacksonville, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held June 14 from Screven First Baptist Church with Dr. Ron Wilcox and Harold Delk officiating. iIntermentwas in the Screven City Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Robert Odum, Edward Odum, Greg Wasdin, Brett Wasdin, Melvin Boyette and Steve Kirkman. Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home of Jesup was in charge of arrangements.

Jennifer Anderson

Jennifer Lynn Anderson, 31, of Jesup diedAug. 9, 2007, at her residence after a short illness. The Wood County, W.V., native had lived in Wayne County the past 11 years and was a member of Faith Chapel Southern Congregational Methodist Church of Jesup. Survivors include her husband of nine years, Thomas W. Anderson of Jesup; sons, Tom Anderson, Kenneth Anderson and Chance Almanza, both of Jesup; her parents, Gary and Joan Riffle of Cabool, Mo.; a stepbrother, Charles Matulick of Fort Collins, Colo.; and several cousins. Funeral services were held Aug. 12 from Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Carter officiating. iIntermentwas in Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery. Active pallbearers were friends. Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Evans Brown

Evans Brown, 57, of Macon diedAug. 9, 2007. The Bristol native was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Waycross, where he was part of the Men’s Ministries. He was a former leader of the senior citizen’s Joy Group. He was a former volunteer for the Ware County Emergency Management Agency, the Piedmont Baptist Association and Gideons International. He attended Middle Georgia College in Cochran and transferred to the University of Georgia where he studied banking and finance. He later organized Wayne National Bank. He loved hunting and fishing and was anticipating the birth of his first grandchild, Hannah Lauren Mock. His father, Larry King Brown, predeceased him. Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Betty Brown of Macon; a daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Shawn Mock of Waycross; his mother, Lois Brown of Screven; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Dana and Debbie Brown of Jesup, Charlie and Janice Brown of Screven, and Andy and Joan Brown of Odum; a sister, Nancy Brown of Hines-ville; his mother-in-law, Josephine Davis of Cochran; a brother-in-law and his wife, Robert and Lavonia Davis of Cochran; three sisters-in-law and their husbands, JoAnne and Doug Sheppard of Cochran, Marjorie and Hugh Alligood of Dexter and Mary and John Hill of San Antonia, Texas; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Sunday from Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Stanley Todd officiating. iIntermentwill be private. William Groover Jr.

William Isaac (Grover) Groover Jr., 63, of Jesup diedAug. 11, 2007, at his residence. The Wayne County native was attending Northside Baptist Church. He was a retired lumberyard operator and a U.S. Army veteran and served on the Resident Advisory Board of the Jesup Housing Authority. Survivors include a half-brother, Dwight Groover of Savannah; a stepsister, Debra Simmons of Savannah; cousins; and a host of friends. Graveside funeral services were held Monday from Piney Grove Cemetery in Wayne County with the Rev. Bobby Creel officiating. Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Morris Glenn Lewis Sr.

Morris Glenn Lewis Sr., 48, of Jesup diedAug. 13, 2007, of congestive heart failure. The Wayne County native was a member of Spring Grove Free Will Baptist Church and co-owner of McDonald’s of Jesup. He loved God, family and friends. His father, Lamar Lewis, and sister, Sheila Marie Harvey, predeceased him. Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Judy “Lib” A. Lewis of Jesup; two daughters and sons-in-law, Amanda and Josh Griffin of Odum and Heather and Brooks Johnson of Jesup; a son, Morris Glenn Lewis Jr. of Jesup; his mother, Juanita Brooker Lewis of Jesup; his brother, Donald Anthony “Tony” Lewis of Jesup; several nieces and nephews; cousins; and aunts and uncles. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday) from Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Johnny Lewis and the Rev. Leon Gibson officiating. iIntermentis in Spring Grove Cemetery. Charles McKenzie Jr.

Charles L. “Charlie” McKenzie Jr., 80, of Jesup diedAug. 12, 2007, at his residence after an extended illness. The Chatham County native had lived in Wayne County the past 34 years. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, member of the Men’s Club of St. Joseph’s, retired manager of Atlanta Gas Light Company, member of the Jesup Rotary Club, member of the South Georgia Hospice Board, member of the Knights of Columbus, former Library Board member and an enthusiastic community worker. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Mary Ellen Hardy McKenzie of Jesup; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ellen and Roger Dunne of Aberdeen, Md.; two sons, Charles L. McKenzie of Savannah and Michael McKenzie of Tallahassee, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Katie Johnson, Tracy Wieczorek, William Dunne, James Dunne, Charles Eric McKenzie, Neil Patrick McKenzie and Drew Nichols McKenzie; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday from St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Keith O’Neill and Father Cletus Pifher officiating. Memorials may be sent to Jesup Rotary Club or Hospice of South Georgia Building Fund, 117 Drennon Drive, Jesup, GA 31545. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Milja Kuusisto Thompson

Milja Kuusisto Thompson, 91, of Jesup diedAug. 13, 2007, after a short illness. The Grafton County, N.H., native had lived in Wayne County the past 25 years and was the widow of Frederick Walter Thompson. Her sister, Ella K. Byrne, predeceased her. Survivors are friends. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday from Jesup City Cemetery with the Rev. Jack Lee officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to graveside services. Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Lila Gibbs

Lila Gibbs, 99, of Jesup diedAug. 13, 2007, in Altamaha Healthcare Center after a lengthy illness. A native and lifelong resident of Wayne County, she was a faithful member of Bennett Union Missionary Baptist Church. She is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held today (Wednesday) at Royal Funeral Home from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Bennett Union Baptist Church with the Pastor Dr. F. Mincey officiating. Burial will follow at Jesup City Cemetery. Royal Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
