CORNELIA - Mrs. Fannie Erwin Tilson, 88, diedThursday, August 5, 1999, at BJC Medical Center following an extended illness.
Mrs. Tilson was bornon September 11, 1910 in Habersham County. She was a daughter of the late John Chandler and Margie Morris Erwin.
Mrs. Tilson was a homemaker and a member of New Hope Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Tilson, two sons, Truman Tilson and J.C. Tilson, and a daughter, Hazel Robinson.
Funeral services were held Sunday, August 8, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, with the Rev. Clyde Garrison officiating. Burial was in the New Hope Baptist Church cemetery.
Survivors include two daughters, Jannie Baker, Maysville, and Marie Collins, Colbert; two sons, Lawton Erwin, Cornelia, and Tommy Tilson, Homer; three sisters, Marie Thompson Tench, Lovenie Simmons and Ethel Ivester Smith, all of Cornelia; four brothers, Lewis Erwin, Coleman Erwin and Homer Erwin, all of Cornelia, and Ray Erwin, Homer; 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

MR. MULCHI
U.S. Air Force veteran
MT. AIRY - Carl Mulchi, 61, diedMonday, August 9, 1999, at his residence following an extended illness.
Mr. Mulchi was bornNovember 20, 1937 in North Carolina. He was a son of Annie Elliott Mulchi, Lincolnton, N.C., and the late Herman Clifton Mulchi.
Mr. Mulchi was a U.S. Air Force veteran and was employed with Schneider Inc., where he worked as a truck driver. He was preceded in death by a son, Carl Lee Mulchi, and two brothers, Herman Ray Mulchi and Charlie Clifton Mulchi.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 12, at Amy's Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Thomas Gragg and Avery Mote officiating. A military burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Linda Hamilton Mulchi; two daughters, Regina Lynn Mulchi, Cornelia, and Terena Ann Mulchi, Mt. Airy; two sons, Clifton Claude Mulchi, Mississippi, and Charlie Mulchi, Mt. Airy; three brothers, Jimmy James Mulchi, Greensboro, N.C., and John Garland Mulchi and Jackie L. Mulchi, both of Lincolnton, N.C.; and several grandchildren.
The family was to have received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at McGahee-Griffin Funeral Home, Cornelia.

MR. SCALES

MARYVILLE, TENN. - Peyton S. Scales, 83, of Maryville, Tenn., diedTuesday, August 10, 1999, at Blount Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Scales was a son of the late Paul and Calla Scales. He was owner of Scales Builders Supply from 1946 to 1982 and was a member of Bakers Creek Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder and Sunday School teacher. Mr. Scales was also a Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the Maryville Lions Club, where he served at local, state and national levels. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Paula Anne Ruckart, and two brothers, David Scales and Paul Scales Jr.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 11, in the chapel of McCammon-Ammons Funeral Home, Maryville, Tenn., with the Revs. Ron Sabo and Roy Englehardt officiating. Burial was in Sherwood Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include his wife, Anna K. Scales; three sisters, Eleanor S. Whitfield and Doris S. Wright, both of Commerce, and Bess S. Crawford, Homer; grandson and wife, Matthew P. and Denise Ruckart; great-grandson, Peyton Ruckart; and several nieces and nephews.

MR. JUSTICE
World War II veteran
GAINESVILLE - Benjamin "Ben" Justice, 78, diedSaturday, August 7, 1999, at Dogwood Forest, Gainesville, following an extended illness.
Mr. Justice was bornDecember 22, 1920 in Spartanburg, S.C. He was a son of James Madison and Margaret Ann Stepp Justice, Spartanburg, S.C. He had lived in Gainesville for the past 11 years.
Mr. Justice was retired from the U.S. Navy, with 30 years of service. He served as Chief Petty Officer during World War II on the USS Ranger CV-4 and the USS Improve. Mr. Justice also served as a Naval Advisor to the Turkish Navy and as a naval recruiter.
Later, he retired from United Technologies Corp. in Greensboro.
Military graveside services will be held Saturday, August 14, in Level Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Ron Wasiluk officiating.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his wife, Geraldine Hardy Justice; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda Louise and Elliott McClure, Mableton; son and daughter-in-law, Preston F. and Bonnie Justice, Gainesville; one granddaughter, Becky Justice, Gainesville; one aunt, Grace Justice, Spartanburg, S.C.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

EASLEY, S.C. - Will Duey Irvin, 69, diedMonday, August 2, 1999, at his residence.
Mr. Irvin was bornon March 29, 1930 in Gillsville. He was a son of the late Jess and Mae Bell Tanner Irvin.
Mr. Irvin was employed in heavy construction work.
Funeral services were held Friday, August 6, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Henry Webb officiating. Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
Survivors include two sons, Greg Irvin, Athens, and Stanley Irvin, Gainesville; one daughter, Cheryl Irvin Lance, Gainesville; one brother, George Irvin, Danielsville; five sisters, Martha Harnish, Simpsonville, S.C., Mary Lou Hix, Commerce, Edith Smith and Peggy Webb, both of Gainesville, and Virginia Strickland, Chestnut Mountain; and five grandchildren.

COMMERCE - Mrs. Willie Maude Murray, 96, diedTuesday, July 27, 1999, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce.
A native of Maysville, Mrs. Murray was bornFebruary 16, 1903. She was a daughter of the late Franklin Hogan and Burnice Eugena Prickett Adams.
Mrs. Murray had worked as a schoolteacher for the City of Commerce and taught in Gadsden, Ala., and Mississippi. She also served as an in home missionary to families in the mountains of Kentucky.
She was marriedto the late Lieut. Col. Eugene Murray, an Air Force Chaplain, and assisted him in his ministry within the United States and abroad.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 30, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce. Burial will be in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
Survivors include one brother, Frank E. Adams, Tavares, Fla., and two nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Commerce First United Methodist Church Building Fund.
The family was to have received friends on Wednesday.

A native of Jackson County, Mrs. Masters was bornOctober 18, 1920. She was a daughter of the late Dillard and Annie Lee Ferguson Morris.
Mrs. Masters was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, R.D. Masters, and a son, Franklin Masters.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 4, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. Wesley Morris and Pete Wing officiating. Burial was in Gillsville Cemetery.
Survivors include two sons, Buddy Masters, Gillsville, and Sonny Masters, Cumming; two brothers, Benny Morris, Gillsville, and James Morris, Nicholson; one sister, Annie Read Sims, Gillsville; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

GAINESVILLE - John F. McDonald, 70, formerly of Murphy, N.C., diedSaturday, July 24, 1999, at a Hall County hospital.
A native of Cherokee County, Mr. McDonald was a son of the late Andrew J. "Andy" and Ellie Abernathy McDonald.
He had lived in Gainesville since 1977 and was a retired barber. Mr. McDonald was a member of Boiling Springs Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 27, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy, N.C., with the Rev. Dallas Crowder officiating. Burial was in the Hanging Dog Baptist Church cemetery. Kim and David Cordin, Roy Ward, Paul and Larry Dockery, Edward Carter and Stephen and Thomas Curtis served as pallbearers.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Nell Carter McDonald; daughter and son-in-law, Patsy M. and David R. Dolin, Commerce; three sisters, Dorothy "Dot" Beaver and Mary Lou Cordin, both of Murphy, N.C., and Iowa "Toots" Marcus, Pleasant Hill, Ore.; brother-in-law, Cliff Killian, Andrews, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.

ROYSTON - Mrs. Katie Bell Hart, 89, diedFriday, July 30, 1999, at Cobb Memorial Hospital, Royston. A native of Franklin County, Mrs. Hart was bornJuly 21, 1910. She was a daughter of the late Jim and Delree Fowler Haley.
Mrs. Hart was a homemaker, an avid fisherwoman and a member of Peniel Pentecostal Holiness Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Hart, one brother, Rob Haley, and five sisters, Geneva Carey, Mayola Fowler, Emma Bray, Wilma Smith and Gertrude Randall.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Aug. 1, at Peniel Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Revs. Gary Osteen and Burt Synan officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mrs. Hart's grandsons served as pallbearers.
Survivors include five sons, James Hart, Commerce, Jerry Hart, Danielsville, Perry Hart, Canon, Barney Hart, Hartwell, and Jackie Hart, Comer; six daughters, Annie Ree Phillips, Mamie Lee Beard and Georgie Gibby, all of Royston, Bobbie Sue Boleman, Danielsville, Sara Nell Voyles, Carnesville, and Judy Pace, Nicholson; 36 grandchildren, 62 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, seven step-great-grandchildren and one step-great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 31, at Bush River Baptist Church, Homer, with the Rev. Julius Mack officiating.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include one sister, Michelle Mackey; three step-sisters, Hope Dowdy, Chris Bonds and Barbara Bonds, all of Jefferson; one step-brother, Mitchell Dowdy; grandmother, Hazel Burns; great-great-great-grandmother, Etta Jones; aunts, Mary Howard, Athens, and Judy Nsong, Gainesville; godmother, Johnnie Gillespie, Commerce; and a host of other relatives and friends.
