MR. CARTER
New Liberty Methodist rites
BRASELTON - Wilburn Carter, 43, diedFriday, July 30, 1999, at BJC Nursing Home, Commerce, following an extended illness.
Mr. Carter was bornin Barrow County, but had lived in Jackson County all of his life. He was a son of Mrs. Estelle Carter, Braselton, and the late James Carter.
Mr. Carter had worked for Great Northern Construction Company and was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Willis and Cecil Carter, and a sister, Susie Brock.
Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 2, at New Liberty Methodist Church, Jackson County. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include one daughter, Brandy Bishop, Jefferson; one son, Rodney Carter, Jefferson; three sisters, Edna Carter, Fayetteville, N.C., and Edith Abernathy and Sheryl Carlile, both of Braselton; three brothers, Garnett Carter, William Carter and Robert Carter, all of Braselton; and three grandchildren.
Memorial Park Funeral Home, Gainesville, was in charge of arrangements.

MR. RYLEE
New Salem UMC member
COMMERCE - James David Rylee, 81, diedFriday, July 30, 1999, at Athens Regional Medical Center.
A native of Banks County, Mr. Rylee was bornOctober 22, 1917. He was a son of the late Leon and Fannie Bray Rylee.
Mr. Rylee was retired from McCann Machine Shop and was a member of New Salem United Methodist Church, Commerce. He was preceded in death by a son, Larry Rylee.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Aug. 1, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Luis Ortiz officiating. Burial was in the New Salem United Methodist Church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Bernell Rylee Rylee; one son, Ronald Rylee, Lula; two daughters, Gladyne Davison, Carnesville, and Brenda Nichols, Commerce; one sister, Francine Tucker, Atlanta; 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Little-Ward Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

MRS. BRADY
Corinth Baptist member
COMMERCE - Mrs. Gladys Fleming Brady, 88, diedFriday, July 30, 1999.
A native of Banks County, Mrs. Brady was bornMarch 22, 1911. She was a daughter of the late Thomas Grayson and Mary Gordon Fleming.
Mrs. Brady was a homemaker and a member of Corinth Baptist Church, Stone Mountain. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Reid Brady, and a son, Danny Brady.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Aug. 1, at Corinth Baptist Church with the Revs. Don Richards and Bob Hill officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include one step-daughter, Joyce Slade, Tucker; two brothers, John Marvin Fleming, Decatur, and Odis H. Fleming, Cornelia; one sister, Ruth Segars, Commerce; nieces, Jennie Jett and Sarah Borders, both of Commerce; and other nieces and nephews.
Tim Stewart Funeral Home, Lawrenceville, was in charge of arrangements.

MRS. PRUITT
Homemaker
CRESTVIEW, FLA. - Mrs. Cleo Pritchett Pruitt, 81, formerly of Jefferson, diedFriday, July 30, 1999, at West Florida Regional Medical Center.
A native of Jackson County, Mrs. Pruitt was bornMay 1, 1918. She was a daughter of the late Clarence and Lola Wood Pritchett.
Mrs. Pruitt was a homemaker and a member of Apple Valley Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Toy Pruitt.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 3, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Vaughn Howington Jr. officiating. Burial was in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce.
Survivors include three sons, Charles Pruitt, Atlanta, Jerry Pruitt, Maysville, and Johnny Pruitt, Bogart; three daughters, Robbie Cartledge, Crestview, Fla., and Martha Chambers and Diane Davis, both of Jefferson; four brothers, Harold Pritchett, Cornelia, Nolan Pritchett, Maysville, Roy Pritchett, Commerce, and Swayne Pritchett, Anderson, S.C.; 20 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Little-Ward Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Lorene F. Mason
Mrs. Lorene Fowler Mason, 86, of Danielsville, diedSaturday, July 31, 1999.
A native and lifelong resident of Madison County, Mrs. Mason was bornMay 25, 1913. She was a daughter of the late Clifford and Ada Bridges Fowler.
Mrs. Mason was a member of Hannahs Creek Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert James Mason.
Graveside services were held Monday, Aug. 2, in Evergreen Memorial Park with the Rev. Leonard Morton officiating.
Survivors include one sister, Jessie Dye, Athens; three god-children, Blake Martin, Courtney Martin and Ryan Martin, all of Crawford; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hannahs Creek Baptist Church, c/o Ruth Fleming, 451 Cobb Street, Royston, GA 30662.
Bridges Funeral Home, Athens, was in charge of arrangements.

Boyce G. Herring
Mrs. Boyce G. Herring, 74, of Hull, diedSunday, Aug. 1, 1999, at her residence.
Mrs. Herring was bornJanuary 18, 1925, the daughter of the late John and Janie Jordan Glenn.
She had been employed with Blue Bell Manufacturing as a sewing machine operator. Mrs. Herring was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Herring.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 3, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Donald Wilson officiating. Burial was in Ila Cemetery.
Survivors include one son, Johnny Leon Herring, Bishop; one daughter, Virginia Evelyn Rams, Hull; a niece raised in the home, Birdie Nix; two sisters, Gladys Sellers, Supply, N.C., and Lillian Dykes, Macon; five grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Ivie Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Charles M. Veal
Charles M. Veal, 71, of Comer, diedSunday, Aug. 1, 1999.
A native of Fulton County, Mr. Veal was the son of the late Fondren Veal and the late Annie Sue McCannon Veal Rogers.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a retired Atlanta policeman. Mr. Veal was of the Baptist faith.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, Aug. 4, in the Meadow Baptist Church cemetery with the Rev. Joe Dooley officiating.
Survivors include one uncle and many cousins.
Brown Funeral Home, Danielsville, was in charge of arrangements.

Ronald G. Anderson
Ronald Gordon Anderson, 57, of Comer, diedThursday, July 29, 1999.
A native of Clarke County, Mr. Anderson was a son of Louise Wilson Anderson and the late Curtis Gordon Anderson.
He was a retired farmer and of the Baptist faith.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 31, in the chapel of Brown Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the Rev. Terry Smith officiating. Burial was in Wilson Cemetery. Mr. Anderson's nephews served as pallbearers.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include two sisters, Linda A. Knight, Bogart, and Eddie A. Manley, Colbert; three brothers, Johnnie Anderson, Fairfield, Calif., and Curtis Anderson and Bobby Anderson, both of Hull; several nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Brown Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mary C. Jones
Mrs. Mary Cathryn Kern Jones, 86, of Hull, diedSunday, Aug. 1, 1999.
Mrs. Jones was bornSeptember 20, 1912, the daughter of the late Clifford D. and Savanna Sullivan Kern.
She was a homemaker and of the Methodist faith. Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Jones.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 4, in the chapel of Gholson Funeral Home, McLeansboro, Ill. Burial was in Corinth Cemetery, Macedonia, Ill.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty J. Babe, Hull, and Kathy Faye Boulier, Fort Herron, Mich.; one son, Donald Norman Jones, Aurora, Ill.; two sisters, Katheline Sanders, Bloomington, Ill., and Beaulah Lahti, California; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Brown Funeral Home, Danielsville, was in charge of arrangements.

Carrie R. Haley
Mrs. Carrie Reba Lee Fortson Haley, 90, of Ila, diedThursday, July 29, 1999.
Mrs. Haley was the daughter of the late Tom and Lizzie Lord Fortson. She was a homemaker and of the Holiness faith.
Mrs. Haley was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh D. Haley, and one son, Roger Lee Haley.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Aug. 1, in the chapel of Brown Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the Revs. John Ingram and Gary Osteen officiating. Burial was in Danielsville Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Haley's grandsons served as pallbearers.
Survivors include two daughters, Bonnie Cary, Danielsville, and Betty Drake, Hull; one son, Hugh E. Haley, Colbert; three brothers, Dupree Fortson, Ila, S.T. Fortson, Danielsville, and Charlie Homer Fortson, Charlotte, N.C.; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Katie B. Hart
Mrs. Katie Bell Hart, 89, of Royston, diedFriday, July 30, 1999, at Cobb Memorial Hospital, Royston.
A native of Franklin County, Mrs. Hart was bornJuly 21, 1910. She was a daughter of the late Jim and Delree Fowler Haley.
Mrs. Hart was a homemaker, an avid fisherwoman and a member of Peniel Pentecostal Holiness Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Hart, one brother, Rob Haley, and five sisters, Geneva Carey, Mayola Fowler, Emma Bray, Wilma Smith and Gertrude Randall.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Aug. 1, at Peniel Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Revs. Gary Osteen and Burt Synan officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mrs. Hart's grandsons served as pallbearers.
Survivors include five sons, James Hart, Commerce, Jerry Hart, Danielsville, Perry Hart, Canon, Barney Hart, Hartwell, and Jackie Hart, Comer; six daughters, Annie Ree Phillips, Mamie Lee Beard and Georgie Gibby, all of Royston, Bobbie Sue Boleman, Danielsville, Sara Nell Voyles, Carnesville, and Judy Pace, Nicholson; 36 grandchildren, 62 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, seven step-great-grandchildren and one step-great-great-grandchild.
Flowers are optional or memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in Madison or Franklin County.
Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, was in charge of arrangements.
