A native of Banks County, Mr. Free was bornNovember 28, 1930. He was a son of the late Luther and Iola Lord Free.
Mr. Free had lived in the Athens area for most of his life and was a retired carpenter. He was connected with Christian Hardware for a number of years. Mr. Free was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva E. Gearing Free, and a son, Ottis Lloyd Free.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 30, at Community Baptist Church with the Revs. David Strickland and Dub Adkins officiating. Burial was in the Union Baptist Church cemetery.
Survivors include three daughters, Jean Gordon, Athens, Patricia Ann Booth, Ila, and Juanita Irwin, Nicholson; two sons, David Free and Terry Free, both of Athens; three sisters, Worlene Ford, Rogersville, Tenn., Kathline Strickland, Jefferson, and Martha Jane Shiver, Athens; one brother, Henry Free, Athens; 18 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Magnolia A. Mathis
Mrs. Magnolia A. Mathis, 80, of Winterville, diedSaturday, July 31, 1999.
A native of Banks County, Mrs. Mathis was a daughter of the late John and Annis Strickland Allison.
She was a homemaker and had lived in the Winterville area all of her life. Mrs. Mathis was preceded in death by her husband, James Harry Mathis.
Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 2, in the chapel of Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, East, Athens, with Asa Thomas officiating. Burial was in Athens Memory Gardens. Allen Huff Jr., Bill Moody, Ronnie Gilbert and Tim Duecker served as pallbearers.
Survivors include three daughters, Harriett Ruff, Lexington, and Barbara Boggs and Pam Dudley, both of Winterville; one sister, Mae Bradberry, Senoia; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Willie M. Murray
Mrs. Willie Maude Murray, 96, of Commerce, diedTuesday, July 27, 1999, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce.
A native of Maysville, Mrs. Murray was bornFebruary 16, 1903. She was a daughter of the late Franklin Hogan and Burnice Eugena Prickett Adams.
Mrs. Murray had worked as a schoolteacher for the City of Commerce and taught in Gadsden, Ala., and Mississippi. She also served as an in-home missionary to families in the mountains of Kentucky.
She was marriedto the late Lieut. Col. Eugene Murray, an Air Force Chaplain, and assisted him in his ministry within the United States and abroad.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 30, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce. Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
Survivors include one brother, Frank E. Adams, Tavares, Fla., and two nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Commerce First United Methodist Church Building Fund.

Bonnie M. Reynolds
Mrs. Bonnie M. Smith Reynolds, 91, of Nicholson, diedSunday, Aug. 1, 1999, at Athens Regional Medical Center.
A native of Jackson County, Mrs. Reynolds was bornJanuary 28, 1908. She was a daughter of the late William Tramell and Betty Venable Smith.
Mrs. Reynolds was retired from Commerce Sportswear and was of the Holiness faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Henry Reynolds.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 3, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. Dennis Kesler and Daniel Johnson officiating. Burial was in the Nicholson Cemetery.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty Beauchamp and Emma Beauchamp, both of Nicholson; one sister, Gladys Walker, Smyrna; six grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

A native of Banks County, Mr. Rylee was bornOctober 22, 1917. He was a son of the late Leon and Fannie Bray Rylee.
Mr. Rylee was retired from McCann Machine Shop and was a member of New Salem United Methodist Church, Commerce. He was preceded in death by a son, Larry Rylee.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Aug. 1, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Luis Ortiz officiating. Burial was in the New Salem United Methodist Church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Bernell Rylee Rylee; one son, Ronald Rylee, Lula; two daughters, Gladyne Davison, Carnesville, and Brenda Nichols, Commerce; one sister, Francine Tucker, Atlanta; 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

A native of Commerce, Mrs. Cole was bornJune 26, 1904. She was a daughter of the late George Washington and Haseltine Berrong Tanner.
Mrs. Cole had been employed with Blue Bell Manufacturing. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Theron Cole.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 30, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Henry Webb officiating. Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
Survivors include one daughter, Marguerite Chandler, Commerce; granddaughter, Louisa Chandler; grandson and wife, Mrs. and Mrs. Benny Chandler; and two great-grandchildren.

A native of Banks County, Mrs. Brady was bornMarch 22, 1911. She was a daughter of the late Thomas Grayson and Mary Gordon Fleming.
Mrs. Brady was a homemaker and a member of Corinth Baptist Church, Stone Mountain. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Reid Brady, and a son, Danny Brady.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Aug. 1, at Corinth Baptist Church with the Revs. Don Richards and Bob Hill officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include one step-daughter, Joyce Slade, Tucker; two brothers, John Marvin Fleming, Decatur, and Odis H. Fleming, Cornelia; one sister, Ruth Segars, Commerce; nieces, Jennie Jett and Sarah Borders, both of Commerce; and other nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Katie Bell Hart, 89, of Royston, diedFriday, July 30, 1999, at Cobb Memorial Hospital, Royston.
A native of Franklin County, Mrs. Hart was bornJuly 21, 1910. She was a daughter of the late Jim and Delree Fowler Haley.
Mrs. Hart was a homemaker, an avid fisherwoman and a member of Peniel Pentecostal Holiness Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Hart, one brother, Rob Haley, and five sisters, Geneva Carey, Mayola Fowler, Emma Bray, Wilma Smith and Gertrude Randall.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Aug. 1, at Peniel Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Revs. Gary Osteen and Burt Synan officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mrs. Hart's grandsons served as pallbearers.
Survivors include five sons, James Hart, Commerce, Jerry Hart, Danielsville, Perry Hart, Canon, Barney Hart, Hartwell, and Jackie Hart, Comer; six daughters, Annie Ree Phillips, Mamie Lee Beard and Georgie Gibby, all of Royston, Bobbie Sue Boleman, Danielsville, Sara Nell Voyles, Carnesville, and Judy Pace, Nicholson; 36 grandchildren, 62 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, seven step-great-grandchildren and one step-great-great-grandchild.

Burns was bornJanuary 10, 1999. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Frankie Burns Sr.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 31, at Bush River Baptist Church, Homer, with the Rev. Julius Mack officiating.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include one sister, Michelle Mackey; three step-sisters, Hope Dowdy, Chris Bonds and Barbara Bonds, all of Jefferson; one step-brother, Mitchell Dowdy; grandmother, Hazel Burns; great-great-great-grandmother, Etta Jones; aunts, Mary Howard, Athens, and Judy Nsong, Gainesville; godmother, Johnnie Gillespie, Commerce; and a host of other relatives and friends.

John F. McDonald, 70, of Gainesville, formerly of Murphy, N.C., diedSaturday, July 24, 1999, at a Hall County hospital.
A native of Cherokee County, Mr. McDonald was a son of the late Andrew J. "Andy" and Ellie Abernathy McDonald.
He had lived in Gainesville since 1977 and was a retired barber. Mr. McDonald was a member of Boiling Springs Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 27, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy, N.C., with the Rev. Dallas Crowder officiating. Burial was in the Hanging Dog Baptist Church cemetery. Kim and David Cordin, Roy Ward, Paul and Larry Dockery, Edward Carter and Stephen and Thomas Curtis served as pallbearers.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Nell Carter McDonald; daughter and son-in-law, Patsy M. and David R. Mrs. Masters was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, R.D. Masters, and a son, Franklin Masters.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 4, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. Wesley Morris and Pete Wing officiating. Burial was in Gillsville Cemetery.
Survivors include two sons, Buddy Masters, Gillsville, and Sonny Masters, Cumming; two brothers, Benny Morris, Gillsville, and James Morris, Nicholson; one sister, Annie Read Sims, Gillsville; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
