WINDER - Miss Ashley McDougald, 14, diedMonday, June 21, 1999, following injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Miss McDougald is the daughter of Tammie Barnette McDougald, Snellville, and Alan L. McDougald, Winder.
A native of Barrow County, she was an eighth grade student at Russell Middle School in Winder, where she was a member of the band and an honor roll student. Miss McDougald was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Dallas McDougald, and grandmother, Carolyn Cross Barnette.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 23, in the chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home, Buford, with the Revs. Gary Carlyle and Bobbie Black officiating. Burial was in the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church cemetery, Hoschton.
Survivors, in addition to her parents, include two brothers, Chris McDougald, Winder, and Kevin McDougald, Snellville; paternal grandmother, Marian McDougald, Hoschton; maternal grandfather, Richard Barnette, Statham; and several aunts and uncles.
MRS. STRICKLAND

COMMERCE - Mrs. Gertrude Bridges Strickland, 82, diedFriday, June 25, 1999, at BJC Nursing Home, Commerce.
A native of Madison County, Mrs. Strickland was bornFebruary 13, 1917. She was a daughter of the late Clifford Lee and Ada Phelps Bridges.
Mrs. Strickland was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, W.F. Strickland.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 26, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Brad Wilson officiating. Burial was in the Moons Grove Baptist Church cemetery.
Survivors include one son, Troy Strickland, Commerce; and two grandchildren.
MR. MOTE

WINDER - Jerry M. Mote, 48, diedFriday, June 25, 1999, at Walton Medical Center, Monroe, following injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Mr. Mote was a son of the late Charlie Levi Mote Jr. and the late Kathryn Annette Mote.
He was employed as a heavy equipment operator with B & A Construction Company, Gainesville, and was a member of the Church of Winder.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 28, in the chapel of Carter Funeral Home, Winder, with the Rev. Larry Youngblood officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Survivors include one son, Michael Mote Arnold, Norcross; two sisters, Janice Edwards, Hoschton, and Kathy Mote, Winder; friend, Melvina Collins, Winder; and several step-children.
MRS. ROBERTS

WINDER - Mrs. Carolyn Jane Roberts, 63, diedThursday, June 24, 1999, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville.
Mrs. Roberts was a daughter of Clara Belle Riley Bingham, Ft. Worth, Texas, and the late William Horace Bingham.
She was formerly employed with Midland Superette and the senior citizen center.
A memorial service was held Monday, June 28, in Smith's Memory Chapel of Smith Funeral Home, Winder.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include three sons, Harold "Robby" Roberts Jr., Buford, Bill Roberts, Winder, and Christopher "Jay" Roberts, Jefferson; four daughters, Melinda Davis, Winder, Becky Smith, Jefferson, Patricia Leverett, Auburn, and Beth Roberts, Monroe; one brother, Thomas Bingham, Ft. Worth, Texas; one sister, Kathy Kovacs, San Diego, Calif.; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

NEW BERN, N.C. - Mrs. Barbara Patricia Horne Brown diedTuesday, June 22, 1999.
Mrs. Brown was bornin Atlanta August 2, 1933, the daughter of Willie Patricia "Pat" Anderson Horne Simmons and the late Robert Fouche Horne Sr.
She attended Sacred Heart High in Atlanta, and worked as church secretary at the First Presbyterian Church of Orange, Calif., the First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta, and Colonial Church in Prairie Village, Kan.
Mrs. Brown was marriedto the late Thomas N. Brown in 1950 at Ponce de Leon Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 28, at Winship Chapel of the First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta, with the Rev. Herb Archer officiating. Burial was in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include two daughters, Nannette Patricia Brown Rod, Overland Park, Kan., and Barbara Lilleen Brown Hammond; four brothers, Robert Fouche Horne Jr., James Morgan Simmons, Jerry Thomas Simmons and George Gerald Simmons; one sister, Donna Miller; and one granddaughter, Ashley Fouche Hammond, Greenville, N.C.

NICHOLSON - Carl Paul Smith, 86, diedMonday, June 28, 1999, at his residence.
A native of Jackson County, Mr. Smith was bornMarch 23, 1913. He was a son of the late George Oscar and Emma Robertson Smith.
Mr. Smith was a retired union plasterer and was a member of Antioch United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Reba Jackson Smith
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 1, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. Richard Cathy and Bob Bone officiating. Burial will be in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce.
Survivors include his children, "The Seven G's"; two brothers, Hoyt R. Smith and Roy Neal Smith, both of Nicholson; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Antioch United Methodist Church Bicentennial Fund, 490 Tolbert Trail, Nicholson, GA 30565.
The family was to have received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

A native of Banks County, Mrs. Arrowood was bornApril 27, 1913. She was a daughter of the late Albert and Nettie Smith Dalton.
Mrs. Arrowood was a homemaker and a member of Alto Congregational Holiness Church. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Hershel Shubert and Arvel F. Arrowood.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 28, at Alto Congregational Holiness Church with the Rev. Leon Brown and Evangelist Jerry Arrowood officiating. Burial was in the Cross Roads Baptist Church cemetery.
Survivors include four sons, W. Young Shubert, Tyrone, Fay K. Shubert, Newnan, Frankie J. Arrowood, Gainesville, and Jerry A. Arrowood, Lula; one sister, Lee Fallyer Lewallen, Union City; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

CLEVELAND - Mrs. Carolyn Pritchett Tomlin, 46, diedSaturday, June 26, 1999, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville, following an extended illness.
A native of Habersham County, Mrs. Tomlin was bornMay 29, 1953. She was a daughter of the late Andrew and Cleo Fair Pritchett.
Mrs. Tomlin was employed with Unicoi State Park and attended Bethesda Fellowship Congregational Holiness Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Carroll Tomlin, a son, Chris Tomlin, and a brother, Ken Pritchett.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 28, at Bethesda Fellowship Congregational Holiness Church with Julia Rautenbureg and the Rev. J. Clarnece Reynolds officiating. Burial was in the Chattahoochee Baptist Church cemetery.
Survivors include one daughter, Rita P. Anderson, Toccoa; two brothers, Grady Pritchett, Toccoa, and Sam Pritchett, Clayton; one sister, Merle Boling, Baldwin; and four grandchildren.
MR. GARRARD

COMMERCE - Robert C. "Bob" Garrard III, 41, formerly of Dublin, diedSaturday, June 19, 1999, in Roanoke, Va.
Born in Ben Hill County, Mr. Garrard was a son of Kathryn Lee Garrard, Dublin, and the late Robert Conns Garrard Jr.
He was a graduate of Cedar Shoals High School, Athens, and attended both Middle Georgia College and Gainesville Junior College. Mr. Garrard was employed as a truck driver with Estes Express Lines and was a professional photographer. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Dublin.
Mr. Garrard was an advocate for professionalism and safety standards in the trucking industry and was a profound nature lover.
Memorial services were held Thursday, June 24, at Christ Episcopal Church with the Rev. Sally Franklin officiating.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Mary Ann Gaillard Garrard; one son, Joshua Paden Garrard, Commerce; two step-sons, Malcolm C. Warren, Rentz, and James T. Warren, Commerce; sister and brother-in-law, Rachel G. and Berry Simmons, Suwanee; brother and sister-in-law, Lee W. and Amy Garrard, Walterboro, S.C.; and nieces and nephews, Ramsey Simmons, Rob Simmons, Molly Simmons and William Simmons, all of Suwanee.

REV. SMITH
Franklin County native
LAVONIA - The Rev. Arad Dewitt Smith, 94, diedMonday, June 7, 1999, in Fort Myers, Fla.
The Rev. Smith was bornJanuary 15, 1905 in the Fairview Community of Franklin County. He was a son of the late Harrison and Etta Reed Smith.
As a Baptist minister, the Rev. Smith served as pastor of Fairview Baptist Church from 1942 to 1945, and from 1945 to 1966, he served as pastor of Berea Baptist Church in Asheville, N.C.
The Rev. Smith had been a resident of Fort Myers, Fla., since 1966.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Savannah Littleton Smith, three brothers, the Rev. Frank Smith, Hoyt Smith and Darby Smith, and three sisters, Ora Bruce, May Davis and Nora Lee Floyd. The Rev. Smith was the great-great-great-grandson of Henry Smith, Revolutionary War veteran and pioneer of Franklin County.
A memorial service was held Saturday, June 26, at Fairview Baptist Church, Lavonia, with the Rev. C. Roy Smith officiating.
Survivors include one son, Jack Smith, Fort Myers, Fla.; and two grandchildren.
