Grey Hill Cemetery rites
ATHENS - Dave Gordon Simmons, 21, diedSunday, November 5, 2000, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce.
Mr. Simmons was bornJanuary 10, 1979, a son of June Elrod Ramos, Athens, and Bobby Simmons, Commerce.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, November 9, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Larry Gailey officiating. Burial will be in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Simmons is survived by a daughter, Mercedes Seay, Danielsville; one brother, Robert Simmons, Athens; and one sister, Brandy Simmons, Athens; maternal grandmother, Ruth Elrod, Commerce, and paternal grandmother, Betty Free, Homer.
The family was to have received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Ivie Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

John E. Cannon
John E. Cannon, 89, of Jefferson, diedSaturday, October 28, 2000, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce, following an extended illness.
Mr. Cannon was bornDecember 5, 1910, in Lumpkin County, a son of the late John and Anne Cannon.
He was retired from the State Highway Department and was a member of Pond Fork Baptist Church.
Mr. Cannon was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Lewis Cannon, and a son, Jack Cannon.
Funeral services were held Monday, October 30, in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson, with the Rev. Charles Jenkins officiating. Burial was in the Talmo Baptist Church cemetery.
Survivors include two sons, James "Heavy" Cannon, Pendergrass, and Johnny L. Cannon, Jefferson; one daughter, Joan Turner, Jefferson; one brother, Herbert Cannon, Ila; eight grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Evans Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Robert C. Brown
Robert Cecil Brown, 76, of Commerce, diedSaturday, October 28, 2000, at Athens Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Brown was bornNovember 22, 1923, in Banks County, a son of the late Fred and Minnie Lee Eubanks Brown.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during World War II, and was retired from General Motors. Mr. Brown was of the Methodist denomination.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 31, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Luiz Ortiz officiating. Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Cannon Brown; two daughters, Yvonne Brannen, Madras, Ore., and Rosalyn Wilson, Duluth; one brother, Winfred Brown, Commerce; one sister, Ruby Bellamy, Toccoa; five grandchildren, Stephanie Wilson, Duluth, Glen Brannen and Robert "Beau" Brannen, both of Madras, Ore., Valerie Cronin, Sugar Hill, and John W. Wilson Jr., Commerce; and two great-grandchildren, Mikayla Wilson, Duluth, and Madelins Cronin, Sugar Hill.
Little-Ward Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Roscoe Clark
Roscoe Clark, 85, of Dale City, Va., formerly of Jackson County, diedSunday, October 22, 2000, at his residence.
Mr. Clark was bornMay 6, 1915, in Jackson County. He was a son of the late Bruce and Mammie Clark.
Mr. Clark was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II and the Korean War. He was a retired transportation director with Alachua County, Fla. Mr. Clark was preceded in death by his wife, Louise McEver Clark.
Funeral services were held in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Bill Carpenter officiating. Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
Mr. Clark is survived by two sons, Carroll Clark, Fairfax Station, Va., and Frank Clark, Dale City, Va.; and three grandchildren.
Little-Ward Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Aletha B. Bridges
Mrs. Aletha Belle Adams Bridges, 80, of Danielsville, diedFriday, October 27, 2000, at Comer Health Care Center.
Mrs. Bridges was bornSeptember 28, 1920, in Madison County, a daughter of the late Norman O. Adams and Vinnie Fowler Adams.
She was retired from Ila Manufacturing and was a member of Community Baptist Church.
Mrs. Bridges was preceded in death by her husband, J.P. Bridges, a son, Clayton Bridges, three grandchildren, Laura Bridges, Judy Free and Steve Strickland, a brother, Hope Adams, and a sister, Mary Dean.
Funeral services were held Monday, October 30, at Community Baptist Church with the Rev. David Strickland officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mrs. Bridges' grandsons served as pallbearers.
Survivors include two sons, Clifford Bridges, Hull, and Robert Bridges, Danielsville; three daughters, Doris Strickland and Diane Smallwood, both of Commerce, and Dora Preston, Danielsville; two grandsons reared in the home, Wesley Bridges and Mike Bridges, both of Danielsville; three sisters, Alberta Drake and Ida Rachel Adams, both of Danielsville, and Norma Arnold, Hull; 18 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, was in charge of arrangements.

Phyllis A. Peyton
Miss Phyllis Ann Peyton, 61, of Athens, diedTuesday, October 24, 2000.
A native of Athens, Miss Peyton was a daughter of the late Andrew Jackson Peyton Jr. and Mildred Louise Epps Peyton.
She retired from A and A Bakery as a sales clerk and was a member of Forest Heights Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 28, at Forest Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Purdy officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Park. Ed Berryman, Joe Wages, Calvin Bridges and Jack Butler served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Edward Lynn Sr., Edward Lynn II, Douglas Bray and Anthony Flowers.
Survivors include three sisters, Joyce Bray, Comer, Regina Lynn, Bogart, and Janie Switzer, Byron; two brothers, Andrew Jackson Peyton Jr., Salisbury, N.C., and Elton Ray Shelton Jr., Winterville; and nieces and nephews.
Bridges Funeral Home, Athens, was in charge of arrangements.

James S. Davis
James Samuel Davis, 85, of Danielsville, diedSaturday, October 28, 2000.
A native of Madison County, Mr. Davis was a son of the late Earl and Fannie Mann Davis.
He was retired from the Madison County Roads Department and was a member of Moon's Grove Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Monday, October 30, at Moon's Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Dan Fuller and Tony Lee officiating. Burial was in the Moon's Grove Baptist Church cemetery.
Mr. Davis is survived by his wife, Mozelle Autry Davis; daughters and sons-in-law, Martha Baker Baysden and James Baysden, Athens, and Brenda and Robert June Cleghorne, Colbert; son and daughter-in-law, Hugh and Jean Davis, Redlands, Calif.; one brother, Hugh Dorsey Davis, Atlanta; two grandchildren, Michael Baker, Danielsville, and Reneé Carey, Hull; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Brown Funeral Home, Danielsville, was in charge of arrangements.

Eugene G. Caputi
Eugene G. Caputi, 77, of Hull, diedTuesday, October 24, 2000.
Mr. Caputi was bornin Allendale, N.J., a son of Louis and Rose Lauano Caputi.
Mr. Caputi was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, having served during World War II, and was a machinist.
He had lived in Athens for 12 years, moving from New Jersey. Mr. Caputi was of the Protestant faith.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy A. Caputi.
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 28, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, East. Burial was in Athens Memory Gardens.
Mr. Caputi is survived by two sisters, Adaline Caputi, Ramsey, N.J., and Phyllis Caputi, Barefoot Bay, Fla.; three brothers, Louis Caputi Jr., Ramsey, N.J., Alfred Caputi, Toms River, N.J., and Robert Caputi, Hull; and nieces and nephews.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to The American Cancer Society, 1060 Gaines School Road, Suite B-2, Athens, GA 30605.
Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, East, was in charge of arrangements.

Grace E. Fowler
Mrs. Grace Elizabeth Rogers Fowler, 93, of Conyers, diedMonday, October 30, 2000, at St. Mary's Hospital, Athens.
Mrs. Fowler was bornSeptember 22, 1907, in Madison County. She was a daughter of the late Benjamin and Bethel Gordon Rogers.
Mrs. Fowler was a retired school teacher and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Commerce.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Comer D. Fowler.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 1, at the First United Methodist Church of Commerce with the Revs. Warren Huddleston and Tim Hogg officiating. Burial was in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathryn Edwards, Conyers, and Eleanor Jones, Rex; two sisters, Mary Baker and Lois Gordon, both of Athens; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, was in charge of arrangements.

Thomas Haley
Henry Thomas Haley, 67, of Danielsville, diedWednesday, October 25, 2000, at his home.
Mr. Haley was bornJune 22, 1933, in Madison County, a son of the late Rev. Grady and Mrs. Mary Sue Beard Haley.
He was retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation and was of the Holiness denomination.
Mr. Haley was preceded in death by a brother, James Talmadge Haley.
Funeral services were held Friday, October 27, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, with the Rev. Ray Jenkins and Odis Graham officiating. Burial was in Danielsville Memorial Gardens. Franklin Haley, Charles Adams, Frank Beard, Bannister Sexton, Pete Brown and Ricky Dalton served as pallbearers.
Mr. Haley is survived by his wife, Rachel Fortson Haley; one son, Thomas Jerry Haley, Danielsville; one daughter, Doris Miller, Danielsville; three grandchildren, Laurie Anne Skelton, Jessica Miller and Erin Miller, all of Danielsville; and two great-grandchildren, Allen Skelton and Allie Skelton, both of Danielsville.
Pruitt Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
