COMMERCE - Mrs. Maggie Sarahelle Moore Sargent, 77, diedWednesday, September 15, 1999, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce.
A native of Franklin County, Mrs. Sargent was bornNovember 18, 1921. She was a daughter of the late Daniel Oscar and Ida Kay Moore.
Mrs. Sargent was retired from Southern Uniform Rental and was of the Baptist denomination. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Frank Sargent.
Funeral services were held Friday, September 17, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. Tim Garrett and Richard James officiating. Burial was in Fairview Memorial Gardens, Stockbridge.
Survivors include two sons, Ronnie Sargent, Charlotte, N.C., and Wyman Sargent, Braselton; one brother, Roger Moore, Jefferson; one sister, Merline McKie, Commerce; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

MRS. PHILLIPS

COMMERCE - Mrs. Flora Sailors Phillips, 96, diedTuesday, September 14, 1999, at BJC Nursing Home, Commerce.
A native of Jackson County, Mrs. Phillips was bornMay 7, 1903. She was a daughter of the late Zelotus and Susan Elizabeth White Sailors.
Mrs. Phillips was retired from Blue Bell Manufacturing and was of the Holiness denomination. She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny L. Phillips, and a son, Howard O. Phillips.
Funeral services were held Thursday, September 16, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. Curtis Hammonds and Luke Wheeler officiating. Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
Survivors include one son, Grady L. Phillips, Lithonia; one daughter, Eva Tolbert, Commerce; 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

MR. WATKINS
U.S. Army veteran
GILLSVILLE - Parris J. Watkins, 71, diedSunday, September 19, 1999, at his residence following an extended illness.
A native of Banks County, Mr. Watkins was bornDecember 7, 1927. He was a son of the late Charlie Henry and Hular Baker Watkins.
Mr. Watkins was a U.S. Army veteran, serving with rank of sergeant in the 101st Airborne Division, 82nd Mechanized. He was also a veteran of the Korean War and was wounded twice during the war. Mr. Watkins served as a deputy sheriff in Banks County for 12 years and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He was also a member of Gillsville Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 21, at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Lula, with the Rev. Ralph Smith officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Roberta Watkins; one daughter, Kathy Watkins Lenderman, Gillsville; one son, Mickey Jewell Watkins, Gillsville; two sisters, Barbara Coggins, Homer, and Gwen Ivey, Calhoun; two brothers, Harold Watkins, Homer, and Roy J. Watkins, Lula; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

ATHENS - Paul Marlowe, 41, diedWednesday, September 15, 1999.
Mr. Marlowe was bornin Warner Robins, the son of H.W. "Bill" Marlowe, Winterville, and the late Sybil Jean Neisler Marlowe.
He had lived in the Athens area all of his life and was employed in the construction business.
Graveside services were held Saturday, September 18, in Winterville Cemetery.
Survivors include one daughter, Michelle Marlowe, Danielsville; one sister, Becky Hammock, Athens; and three brothers, Richard Marlowe, Homer, David Marlowe, Hull, and Ronnie Marlowe, Athens.

MR. WEHUNT
U.S. Air Force veteran
LULA - Harold Dean Wehunt, 68, father of Peggy Samples, Commerce, diedFriday, September 17, 1999, at Emory Hospital, Atlanta, following an extended illness.
A lifelong resident of Hall County, Mr. Wehunt was bornJanuary 3, 1931, the son of John Wehunt and Bertie Roper.
He served in the U.S. Air Force and was retired from the FAA. Mr. Wehunt was a member of Salem Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Monday, September 20, in the chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home, Gainesville. Entombment was in the Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Survivors, in addition to his daughter, include his wife, Vivian Wehunt; one son, David Wehunt, Marietta; daughters, Denice Jones, Acworth, Diane Raines, Lovejoy, Penny Elrod, Gainesville, Cindi Deleon, Lula, and Tammy Lance, Hayesville, N.C.; three brothers, Junior Wehunt, Gainesville, Larry Wehunt, Flowery Branch, and Ronald Wehunt, Lula; four sisters, Freida Brookshire and Peggy Patterson, both of Gainesville, Marrel Bennett, Cumming, and Sue Peck, Dahlonega; 18 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

MR. LOVELESS
World War II veteran
CORNELIA - John Harold Loveless, 81, diedThursday, September 16, 1999, at Habersham County Medical Center following an extended illness.
Mr. Loveless was bornJanuary 5, 1918 in Atlanta. If ever asked his age, his standard answer would be, "Born in '18. Figure it out for yourself."
His father, the late John Marion Loveless, diedwhile John was a child, so his mother, Bertie, a schoolteacher in Atlanta, raised him and his sister, Kathleen.
Mr. Loveless earned a degree from Emory University. He joined the Army Air Corps, which later became the United States Air Force. He served his country during World War II and for 26 years.
Starting as a Lieutenant, he attained the highest rank available to non-commissioned officers, that of chief master sergeant. During this time, he met and marriedVirginia Ravenstein and they had four children. Due to the nature of his job, the family lived in many places all over the United States and in England.
After retiring from the service in 1967, he and his family moved to the family farm in Dacula. There he built a house and started two second careers as tax preparer for H & R Block and a Christmas tree farmer. He continued both jobs for about 20 years.
He always enjoyed the interaction with the public in both of these jobs, family members said.
His earlier travels led him to an appreciation of further travels. This included many cruises in the Caribbean, South America and Alaska. Other travels were the highlight of many years. Mr. Loveless and his wife moved to Cornelia five years ago. They resided at Alston Ridge.
Mr. Loveless was of the Baptist denomination.
Funeral services were held Saturday, September 18, in the chapel of McGahee-Griffin Funeral Home, Cornelia, with the Rev. Benny Nix officiating. Burial was in Level Grove Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Virginia "Jean" Loveless; daughters and sons-in-law, Beth and Gene Cody, Clarkesville, and Mary and Chester Tullis, Smith, Ala.; son and daughter-in-law, John K. and Marcia Loveless, Charlotte, N.C.; son, Charles Loveless, Hoschton; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

MRS. SHERIDAN
Lifelong Banks County resident
LULA - Mrs. Oulia Pritchett Sheridan, 87, of the Mt. Carmel Community, diedFriday, September 17, 1999, at a private nursing home following an extended illness.
A native of Banks County, Mrs. Sheridan was bornSeptember 26, 1911. She was a daughter of the late Will and Callie Nunn Pritchett.
Mrs. Sheridan was a lifelong resident of Banks County and was retired from Carwood Manufacturing, with many years of service. She was of the Baptist denomination. Mrs. Sheridan was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Sheridan.
Family members said, "She was a loving, caring sister and a good aunt to all nieces and nephews."
Funeral services were held Sunday, September 19, at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Lula, with the Revs. Ralph Smith and Phil Parks officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include brother and sister-in-law, J.D. and Annie Sue Pritchett, Lula; sisters and brothers-in-law, Rose and Clarence Parker, Oakwood, Wilma and Mack Sisk, Winder, and Estelle and Jessie Whitfield, Gainesville; sister, Minnie Hooper, Gainesville; two nephews of the home, Will Pritchett, Mt. Juliet, Tenn., and Allen Pritchett, Gainesville; and several other nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

COMMERCE - Mrs. Dovena Venable Beard, 93, diedMonday, September 20, 1999, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce.
A native of Jackson County, Mrs. Beard was bornJanuary 20, 1906. She was a daughter of the late Elmer and Margaret Matthews Venable.
Mrs. Beard was a former schoolteacher and was the owner of Beard Grocery and Restaurant. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Commerce. Mrs. Beard was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Beard.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 22, at the First United Methodist Church of Commerce with the Rev. Warren Huddleston officiating. Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
Survivors include one son, Larry H. Beard, Decatur; one daughter, Elaine Wilmont, Fayetteville; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

MARTIN - Harold Shields McGee, 87, diedSunday, September 19, 1999, following an extended illness.
Mr. McGee was bornSeptember 13, 1912 in Hart County, the son of the late William Keifer and Bertha Lorretta Johnson McGee.
He was a farmer and had worked in the textile industry. Mr. McGee was a member of Fairview Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Karen Crunkleton and Michael Delane McGee, three brothers, Howard, Thomas and John McGee, and three sisters, Nancy Whiten, Cleo Atkinson and Monteen Whitworth.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 21, in the B.D. Ginn Memorial Chapel of Ginn Funeral Home, Carnesville, with the Revs. Jewel Gaines and Paul Jameson officiating. Burial was in Franklin Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Sue Walters McGee; one son, Calvin McGee, Martin; two daughters, Carlene M. Crunkleton, Martin, and Edweena Voyles, Lavonia; two sisters, Martha Nell Smith, Lavonia, and Lorene Macomson, Carnesville; seven grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
