COMMERCE - Mrs. Jessie Faulkner Haggard, 87, diedWednesday, May 17, 2000, at Crystle Springs Nursing Home.
Mrs. Haggard was bornMay 18, 1912, in Banks County. She was a daughter of the late Candler Allen and Mary Pittman Faulkner.
Mrs. Haggard was retired from Blue Bell and was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Haggard.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 19, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. Carlton Peters and James J. McLendon officiating. Burial was in the Mount Olive Baptist Church cemetery.
Mrs. Haggard is survived by one daughter, Janice Hubbard, Maysville; one sister, Blatz Mize, Commerce; two grandchildren, one niece and one nephew.

MR. LEDFORD
U.S. Army veteran
COMMERCE - Clomer Lamar "Slim" Ledford, 78, diedTuesday, May 16, 2000, at Lanier Park Hospital, Gainesville, following an extended illness.
Mr. Ledford was a native of Jackson County. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II, and also served in the Air National Guard. Mr. Ledford was retired from General Motors and was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Madison County.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 19, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Douglas Duncan officiating. Burial was in the Talmo Baptist Church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Ethelene Myers Ledford; one son, Brandon Lamar Ledford, Commerce; two brothers, Charlie Ledford, Gillsville, and Franklin Ledford, Talmo; two sisters, Cynthia Mae Shelton and Ollie Jane Ledford, both of Talmo; and a number of nieces and nephews.

MRS. THOMAS

CLARKESVILLE - Mrs. Hazel D. Thomas, 70, diedSaturday, May 20, 2000.
A native of Towns County, Mrs. Thomas was a daughter of the late James Frank and Lola Mae West Dyer.
She was retired from Kandy Kane Nursery and Learning Land and was a member of North Georgia Bible Church. Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by her husband, D.L. Thomas.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 22, in the chapel of Whitfield Funeral Home, Demorest, with the Rev. Mark Akin officiating. Burial was in Yonah Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include one daughter, Stephanie Martin, Clarkesville; two sons, Roy Lee Thomas, Clarkesville, and Larry G. Thomas, Crawfordville, Fla.; three sisters, Betty Marolf and Lois "Cricket" Mason, both of Alto, and Velma Crawford, Greenrock, Ill.; three brothers, Loyd Dyer, Gillsville, Guy Dyer, Cornelia, and T.J. Dyer, Blairsville; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

WASHINGTON - Mrs. Myrtie Ogletree Callaway, 90, diedWednesday, May 17, 2000, in Thomson.
Mrs. Callaway was bornin Taliaferro County, a daughter of the late Frank and Lucey Cheney Ogletree.
She had lived most of her life in Wilkes County and was retired from Royal Manufacturing Company in Washington. Mrs. Callaway had also been employed part-time with Wills Memorial Hospital and was a member of Phillips Mill Baptist Church, Washington. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Thomas Callaway.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 19, at Phillips Mill Baptist Church with the Revs. John M. King and Robert Jacobs officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Barry Callaway, Donnie Callaway, Gary Callaway, Hal Callaway, Tim Callaway and David Callaway served as pallbearers.
Survivors include two sons, W.C. "Sonny" Callaway, Monroe, and Cecil Callaway, Homer; one daughter, Annie Callaway, Thomson; two brothers, Owen Ogletree, Bogart, and Cephas Ogletree, Union Point; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Phillips Mill Baptist Church, Washington.

COMMERCE - Mrs. Merle O. Gober, 92, diedSaturday, May 20, 2000, at Gainesville Nursing Home.
Mrs. Gober was bornJune 10, 1907, a daughter of the late William Lamartine and Nettie Ovie Segraves O'Kelley.
She was a housewife. Mrs. Gober was preceded in death by her husband, George Dewey Gober, a son, William Henry Hawkins Gober, a great-grandson, Douglas Gober Smith, and two brothers, Ovie Lee O'Kelley and Dorsey O'Kelley.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 22, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Robert Passmore officiating. Burial was in the Minish Family Cemetery.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Dewey and Billie Stone Gober, Hull; two sisters, Cecil Sinift, Canton, Mich., and Geraldine Start Galena, Kan.; three grandchildren, Gerald Gober and Pamela Smith, both of Hull, and Ann Nix, Woodstock; eight great-grandchildren, Darrick, Amanda and Daniel Smith and Jeniece and Jenna Gober, all of Hull, and Sarah, Alan and Rachel Nix, all of Woodstock; and several nieces and nephews.

MT. AIRY - Mrs. Rachel Clark LaCount, 71, diedMonday, May 22, 2000, at Habersham County Medical Center following injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Mrs. LaCount was bornApril 23, 1929, in South Carolina. She was a daughter of the late Guy and Alice Langston Clark.
Mrs. LaCount was a homemaker and was a member of Mt. Airy Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Ralph Clark.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 24, in the chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home, Cornelia, with the Revs. Ray Turpin and Bobby Langston officiating. Burial was in Level Grove Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, George LaCount; five daughters, Judy Owenby, Brenda McAllister and Pat Crocker, all of Mt. Airy, Faye Porterfield, Clarkesville, and Debbie Kardos, Valparaizo, Ind.; one son, Michael LaCount, Mt. Airy; one sister, Hazel Martin, Alto; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Mr. Martin was bornJuly 23, 1968, a son of Warren Albert Sr. and Callie Christine Ledford Martin, Talmo.
Funeral services were held Sunday, May 21, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. Johnny Knight and Harvey Smith officiating. Burial was in the Martin Family Cemetery.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include sister, Angela Renee Martin, Talmo; sister and brother-in-law, Gwen Martin and Craig Puntervold; special friend, Samantha Hulsey; three nieces, Dawn and Ashley Puntervold and Samantha Martin; and one nephew, Scott Miller.

JEFFERSON - Sam "Alton" Smith, 91, diedSunday, February 27, 2000, at Crystle Springs Nursing Home.
Mr. Smith was bornOctober 14, 1908, in Franklin County. He was a son of the late John Henry Butler Smith and Nancy Elizabeth Ayers Smith.
Mr. Smith was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy, and was retired from Jefferson Mills. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Jefferson, as well as many charitable organizations.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his wife, Bertrice Smith.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 1, at Faith Baptist Church with the Rev. Gerald Mitton officiating. Burial was in Woodbine Cemetery, Jefferson.
Mr. Smith is survived by a sister-in-law, Roena Irvin, Jefferson; brothers-in-law, A.J. Irvin, Talmo, and H.B. Irvin, Adrian; and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Tolbert was bornJuly 14, 1932, in Jackson County. She was a daughter of the late Clifford and Grace Woodall Wilson.
Mrs. Tolbert was a homemaker and a member of Antioch United Methodist Church.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 1, at Antioch United Methodist Church with the Revs. Richard Cathy and Dennis Kesler officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, Gene Tolbert; one daughter, Yvette Jones, Nicholson; two brothers, Leon Wilson and Winford Wilson, both of Commerce; two sisters, Geraldine Bruce and Vivian Poe, both of Commerce; one grandson, Austin Blakley Jones, Nicholson; and two granddaughters, Autumn Michelle Reno and Brianna Yvette Reno, both of Nicholson.

JEFFERSON - Mrs. Coetta Pursley, 76, diedSaturday, May 20, 2000, at Moodys Personal Care Home.
A native of Jefferson, Mrs. Pursley was bornJuly 6, 1923. She was a daughter of the late Henry Grady Moon and Annie Ruth Nash.
Mrs. Pursley was retired from Jefferson Mills and was a member of the Congregational Holiness Church of Jefferson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Pursley, and two sons, Richard and Jerry Gearin.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 22, at Living Word Worship Center, Jefferson, with the Rev. Dennis Kesler and Billy Autry officiating. Burial was in Woodbine Cemetery, Jefferson.
Mrs. Pursley is survived by two sisters, Bernice Hagood, Monroe, and Elizabeth Sorrow, Union Point; four step-children and several nieces and nephews.
