GAINESVILLE - Mrs. Alpha Charlotta Lewallen, 95, diedSunday, February 27, 2000, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville, following a brief illness.
Mrs. Lewallen was bornin Stephens County. She had lived a period of years in Banks County and the last 50 years in Hall County.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 29, in the chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home, Gainesville, with the Rev. Ricky Elrod officiating. Burial was in the Harmony Baptist Church cemetery, Banks County.
Survivors include five daughters, Louise Wilson, Lula, Alice Gilbert and Scviller Wright, both of Gainesville, Thursey Howell, Commerce, and Lillie Rose Crow, Tampa, Fla.; three sons, William R. "Bob" Lewallen, Clermont, Bennie Lewallen, Pendergrass, and James Ellis Lewallen, Commerce; 38 grandchildren, 59 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

COMMERCE - Miss Betty Jean Carroll, 62, diedMonday, February 28, 2000, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce.
Miss Carroll was bornMarch 29, 1937, in Jackson County. She was a daughter of the late Roy Carroll.
Miss Carroll was a homemaker and of the Baptist denomination.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 2, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Jimmy Owensby officiating. Burial will be in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce.
Survivors include five sons, Pete Brooks and Michael Ollis, both of Atlanta, Dean Konrady, Yorkville, Ill., and David Ollis and Jimmy Ollis, both of Commerce; one daughter, Regina Phillips, Commerce; two brothers, Harley Carroll, Winterville, and Roy Carroll Jr. Maysville; two sisters, Montine Bowen, Chester, S.C., and Marie Knight, Covington, S.C.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The family was to have received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the funeral home.

World War II veteran
TALMO - William Hardy Parker, 76, diedMonday, February 28, 2000, at Walton Medical Center following an extended illness.
Mr. Parker was bornDecember 16, 1923, in Gordon County. He was a son of the late William Luther and Susie Elizabeth Pharr Parker.
Mr. Parker was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army, and was retired from the Lookeed Corporation, with 33 years of service. He was a member of Rose Lane Baptist Church, Marietta.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 1, at Talmo Baptist Church with Dr. Charles B. Walls and the Rev. Jeff Burt officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Ron Vincent, Roy Vaughn, Josh Holcomb, Lonnie Waller, Daniel Parker and Steve Parker served as pallbearers.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Louise Kiker Parker; two sons, Michael William Parker, Marietta, and Marshall David Parker, Irwinton; two daughters, Sylvia Vaughn, Talmo, and Kimberly Vincent, Buford; two sisters, Nelle Davis, Dalton, and Sue Fourman, Hamilton; one brother, Delford Parker, Pine Mountain; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

COMMERCE - Mrs. Lillie Mae Law diedWednesday, February 23, 2000, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce.
Mrs. Law was bornNovember 1, 1909, a daughter of the late Julius and Eula White.
Family members say Mrs. Law found Christ at an early age and united with King's Branch Baptist Church, Carnesville. She served God faithfully until her death, they said.
Mrs. Law was a devoted mother, valued family member and friend, family added.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud Law, two sons and a daughter.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 26, at Neal's Grove Baptist Church, Commerce, with the Rev. J.M. Thomas officiating. Burial was in the King's Branch Baptist Church cemetery. Friends of the family served as pallbearers and flower ladies.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Eula Mae and Lodgin Williamson, Alice and Columbus Rucker and Barbara and Bernard Dubose, all of Commerce, and Everine and Charles Ray Rivers, Mocksville, N.C.; daughters, Annie Lois Carson and Marie Carson, both of Atlanta; sons and daughters-in-law, Willie and Vickie Carson, Atlanta, and George and Rachel Law, Commerce; sons, Leon Carson, Jefferson, and James Carson, Atlanta; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and relatives and friends.

Mr. Smith was bornin Fulton County, a son of Ruby Louise Matthews and the late Joseph H. Smith.
He was employed as a painter and was a member of the IBPAT International Brotherhood of Painters.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Geraldine O. Pruitt; two daughters, Melody Wehunt and Emily Caroline Smith, both of Hoschton; four sons, James Howard Smith, Decatur, Claude Edgar Smith and Jonathan Douglas Smith, both of Hoschton, and Joseph Benjamin Smith, Jefferson; three brothers, Gene Smith, Snellville, Billy Ray Smith, Decatur, and Rex B. Smith, Corpus Christi, Texas; and seven grandchildren.

BRASELTON - Mrs. Selba Nell Ferguson, 74, diedMonday, February 28, 2000, at her residence following an extended illness.
A native of Hall County, Mrs. Ferguson was a daughter of the late Odus L. and Eva Mundy Turk.
She was a member of Memorial Park Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Ferguson was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Ferguson, a brother, Royce Turk, and a sister-in-law, Alma Turk.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 1, in the chapel of Little-Davenport Funeral Home, Gainesville, with the Revs. Willard Baxter and Charles Gibbs officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Gainesville.

Funeral services were held Monday, February 28, at New Liberty Baptist Church with the Rev. Everett Carlisle officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include one daughter, Peggy Carlile, Braselton; one son, Danny Lee, Jefferson; two sisters, Edna Carter, Fayetteville, N.C., and Sheryl Carlile, Braselton; two brothers, Garnet Carter and William Carter, both of Braselton; and three grandchildren, Kelly and Dustin Carlile and Cody Lee.

Hubert M. Chastain, 88, of Hull, diedThursday, February 24, 2000.
Mr. Chastain was bornin Clarke County, a son of the late John E. and Daxie C. Chastain.
He was retired, having been self-employed as a metal operator, and was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Mr. Chastain was preceded in death by his wife, Marcelene Williams Chastain.
Graveside services were held Saturday, February 26, in Evergreen Memorial Park with the Rev. Luther Fouche officiating.
Survivors include two sisters, Ruth Epps, Dearing, and Janelle Vinging, Savannah; and one brother, Lawrence Chastain, Macon.

JEFFERSON - Jeff M. Armstrong, 93, diedMonday, February 28, 2000.
Mr. Armstrong was bornDecember 20, 1906, in Chester, S.C. He was a son of the late Forney Richard and Mamie Witherspoon Armstrong.
Mr. Armstrong was retired from the Georgia Power Company and served as past president of the Rotary Club. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jefferson, where he served as a past deacon.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 3, at the First Baptist Church of Jefferson with Dr. Jon Appleton officiating. Burial will be in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce.
Survivors include his wife, Frances K. Armstrong; one daughter, Janet K. Cassidy, Maryland; one sister and four brothers, all of South Carolina; two granddaughters and one great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Jackson Funeral Home, Jefferson.

Annie M. Dixon
Mrs. Annie Mae Dixon, 87, of Danielsville, diedSaturday, May 13, 2000.
A native and longtime resident of Madison County, Mrs. Dixon was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Stephens.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Grady Dixon, and two sons, Jimmy Edwards and Henry Edwards.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 15, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the Rev. John Edwards officiating. Burial was in the Calvary Baptist Church cemetery.
Survivors include six daughters, Jerrie Edwards, Danielsville, Ann Strickland, Carolyn Strickland, Barbara Streetman and Mary Sorrow, all of Hull, and Sherry Bramlett, Farmington; one brother, Buster Stephens, Griffin; 18 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren.
