Funeral services for Mrs. Pauline Raines Braswell, 64 of Roberta were held Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2004 at 1 p.m. from Olive Grove Baptist Church in Roberta with the Pastor R.L. Hodo officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Braswell died Friday, Feb. 6, 2004 at Upson Regional Medical Center.

Our Beloved Deaconess Pauline Raines Braswell joined God's Calvary of Angels on Feb. 6, 2004. Born on Feb. 3, 1940 to her deceased parents, Thomas Van and Cora Lee (Duncan) Raines Sr. She was joined in holy matrimony to the late Deacon George Braswell who preceded her in death. To this union seven children were born. One preceded her in death, Kenneth Braswell. At an early age, Pauline joined the Olive Grove Baptist Church, she was a faithful member of the Senior Choir. She attended Crawford Co. Training School. She was retired from Martha Mills Inc. Deaconess Braswell was a faithful member of the Senior Choir.
She leaves to mourn her passing her devoted daughters, Sherry (Bill) Raines of Yatesville, Maryline (Adolphus) Willis and Jacqueline Braswell of Roberta; three sons, Edward (Loretta) Braswell of Thomaston, James (Daisy) Braswell of the Salem Community, Jerry (Elaine) Braswell of Reynolds; two grandchildren she reared as her own, Latonya and Anthony Braswell of Roberta; two sisters and one brother preceded her in death, Lizzie Lou Walker, Flossie Searcy and Marvin Lee Raines; five sisters, Henrietta Fegan of Roberta, Lillie Bell (Marvin) Harp of Barnesville, Clara Bell Gray of Forest Park, Fannie Mae Lewis and Carolyn Raines of the Salem Community; two brothers, Thomas Van (Annie Lizzie) Raines of Roberta, Willie Cleve (Mary) Raines of Detroit, Mich.; like a sister, Mrs. Juanita Raines of Roberta; a devoted friend, Mrs. Dorothy M. Jones of Roberta; 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; her surviving in-laws, Ruby Tennyson, Ulyssess (Birda) Braswell and Sterling (Judy) Braswell all of Roberta, Margaret Wilson of Lizella, William Sullivan of Fort Valley, Vera (Boyce) Bush of Denver, Colo., Barbara Ann Williams of Fort Valley, Clinton (Charlotte) Braswell of Waner Robins, Bennie (Julie) Braswell of Detroit, Mich., Marion (Kathryn) Braswell of Savannah, Louise Ponder of Detroit, Mich.; surviving aunts and uncles, Amanda (Morris) Jones of Roberta, Willie (Georgia Mae) Raines and Oscar (Lillie) Raines all of Butler, Horace Raines of Thomaston, Shirley Raines and Alice Raines of Detroit, Mich., Effie Maude Davis of Burmingham, Ala. and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
J.M. 'Mac' Raines
Funeral services for Mr. J.M. "Mac" Raines, 73, of Athens, formerly of Thomaston were held Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dusty Raines and the Rev. Charles Bennett officiating. Burial followed in South View Cemetery.
Mr. Raines died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004 at his residence.
Pasley-Fletcher Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Raines was a native and former resident of Thomaston, born Nov. 23, 1930. He was the son of the late Robert Holmes Raines and Lelia Belle Davis Raines. He was a retired real estate broker, having operated Raines Realty Co. He was a 1948 graduate of R.E. Lee Institute and an Army veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Raines was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Jean B. Raines of Athens; two daughters, Mrs. Edith Ann Raines Garrett and Caroline Raines, both of Athens; a granddaughter, Morgan Raines Garrett of Athens; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Johnny Slaton
Mr. Johnny Slaton, 74, of Greenville, died Monday, Feb. 8, 2004 in LaGrange.
Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date by Harper's Funeral Home of Manchester.
Sharon Ceceila Smith
Funeral services for Mrs. Sharon Ceceila Smith, 47 of Crest Highway, Molena were held Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2004 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Moody Funeral Home with the Rev. Tommy Smith officiating. Burial followed in Moody Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Smith died Monday, Feb. 9, 2004 at Upson Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents, Buck and Lucille Edmondson Yeoman. She enjoyed doing crafts, painting and gardening. She loved animals and was a good friend to everyone.
Survivors include her husband, Jackie W. Smith Jr.; daughter, Jill C. Duvall of Panama City, Fla.; sister, Martha Sims of Griffin; brothers, Danny Yeoman, Johnny Yeoman and Bill Yeoman of Griffin, Gene Yeoman of Pike County, Phillip (Leslie) Yeoman of St. Augustine, Fla.; a granddaughter, Jessica Duvall of Panama City, Fla.; mother-in-law, Sarah Williams of Meriwether County; father-in-law, Jackie W. Smith Sr. of Miami, Fla.; stepdaughter, Jacqulin Christine Smith of Griffin; stepson, Jackie Jeremiah Smith of Meansville; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Tim Manley, Jill Manley, Charles Manley, Sammy Manley and Bobby Manley, all of Griffin; uncles, Thomas Bell Connell and Tommy Smith, both of Griffin; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Eleanor Jane King Smith
Funeral services for Mrs. Eleanor Jane King Smith, 93, of Atlanta were held Monday, Feb. 9, 2004 at Spring Hill at 11 a.m. Burial followed in Westview Cemetery in Atlanta.
Mrs. Smith died Friday, Feb. 6, 2004 at her residence at Sunrise Assisted Living in Atlanta.
Mrs. Smith was a native Atlantan and was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Benjamin Terry Smith. She attended the North Avenue Presbyterian School which later became the Westminster schools and graduated from Finch School in New York City. She was a member of the Cathedral of St. Phillip, Atlanta Forward Arts Foundation, the Junior League of Atlanta, Planters Garden Club, the Capital City Club and former member of the Board of the Atlanta Girl Scouts. She and her husband owned Windsweep Farm in Thomaston where they raised registered polled Hereford cattle and had several champions.
Survivors include a son, Benjamin Terry (Katie) Smith Jr. of Thomaston; daughter, Eleanor S. (Richard) Lee of Atlanta; grandchildren, Benjamin Terry (Amy) Smith III, Susan Smith (Jeff) Hix, Richard King (Allison) Smith, Julie Orr (Steve) Hoover, James Clifton Orr, Susan Lee Simmons, Richard Cameron Lee Jr., Elizabeth Lee Rodriguez; nine great-grandchildren, Savannah Hill Smith, Benjamin Terry Smith IV, Catherine Elanor Hix, Jeffrey David Hix Jr., Caroline Aley Hoover, James Griffin Orr, Christian Rodriguez, Lindsey and Cameron Lee.

Funeral services for Mr. Mark A. Smith Jr., 80, of Dunwoody were held Friday, Feb. 6, 2004 at Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church in Atlanta. Burial followed at Arlington Memorial Park.
Mr. Smith died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004.

Mr. Smith was born in Thomaston April 23, 1924. He graduated from Robert E. Lee Institute in 1941. He attended Virginia Military Institute prior to serving in World War II and graduated after the war from Georgia Tech as a civil engineer. He was married to his high school sweetheart Lurline Turner Smith for 58 years. Mr. Smith served with the U.S. Army. 104th Infantry Div., receiving a Battlefield Commission in France. A Purple Heart recipient, he attained the rank of Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve.
A general contractor and developer in the Atlanta area, he was active in a number of civic and community organizations. He rose through the ranks of the Kiwanis International to serve as its International President during 1979 through 1980. Mr. Smith was a life long golfer and member of the Cherokee Town and Country Club.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Leila (Dick) Doll of Victor, N.Y.; a son and daughter-in-law, Angie (Mark) A. Smith III of Atlanta; three grandchildren, Alan Smith, Angelynn Doll and DJ Doll.
In lieu of flowers the family request contributions be made to the Kiwanis International Foundation Childrens Fund, 3636 Woodview Trace, Indianapolis, IN 46268.

Funeral services for Mr. Robert L. Thornton, 72, of Barnesville were held Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004 at 1 p.m. from the Springhill Missionary Church in Milner with Pastor E.J. O'neal officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Thornton died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004 at Spalding Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services for Mrs. Lula Pearl Jones Williams, 84, of Sixth Ave. were held Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Coggins Funeral Home with the Rev. Dean Hemphill officiating. Burial followed in Southview Cemetery.

Mrs. Williams was born in Dodge County on Nov. 24, 1919 to the late J.W. and Fannie Livingston Jones. She was a resident of Thomaston for many years and was retired from Martha Mills where she worked for over 33 years. Mrs. Williams was a member of Clark's Chapel Baptist Church of Thomaston. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Perry Monroe Williams.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Sandra (Thomund) Ellington of Thomaston, Mrs. Betty Joe (Jim) Alger of Brunswick and Mrs. Nettie Ruth Briddle of Jacksonville, Fla.; a son, Mr. Jessie (Evelyn) Williams of Brunswick; a sister, Mrs. Mary Bedsole of Eastman; 13 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.
