Betty L. Brown
Ms. Betty Lou Brown, 51, of Anderson, S.C., diedSaturday, October 27, 2001.
A native of Mercer, Pa., Ms. Brown was the daughter of Ethel Nelson Marstellar and the late Randall Marstellar.
She was a member of Comer Baptist Church and worked for U.G.A. Ms. Brown was an administrative assistant for Howell & Mitchell Investment, Athens, for five years and was presently employed as an administrative assistant with Gunter Investment, Anderson, S.C.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, November 2, at Comer Baptist Church with the Rev. Stewart Lang officiating. Burial was in the Vineyards Creek Baptist Church cemetery. Jason Brown, Jeff Spratlin, Tony Lundy, John Smith, Zach Smith and Joseph Smith served as pallbearers.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include two sons, Matt Brown and Tim Brown, both of Athens; three sisters, Carol Spratlin, Winterville, Janet Pursley, Watkinsville, and Barbara Smith, Athens; one brother, David Leroy Marstellar; best friends, Wayne and RoseMary Wilson; and several nieces and nephews.
Brown Funeral Home, Danielsville, was in charge of arrangements.

Marshall C. Cauthen Jr.
Marshall C. Cauthen Jr., 79, of Winterville, diedSunday, October 21, 2001.
A native of Clarke County, Mr. Cauthen was the son of Mary A. Cauthen, Winterville, and the late Marshall C. Cauthen Sr.
He was retired from the University of Georgia and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Mr. Cauthen was a member of Center Methodist Church and a member of the Winterville Civitan Club.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 3, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, East, Athens, with the Rev. Sanford Willard officiating. Burial was in the Winterville Cemetery. Members of the Winterville Civitan Club, along with Ed Fleeman, served as pallbearers.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include a sister and brother-in-law, Luann and William E. Orr, Winterville; one nephew and three nieces.
Memorials may be made to Center Methodist Church.

Barbara N. Poole
Mrs. Barbara N. Poole, 67, of Commerce, diedThursday, November 1, 2001, at her residence.
Mrs. Poole was bornFebruary 8, 1934, in Anderson County, S.C. She was a daughter of the late Grady Henry and Elise Christina Miles Nichols.
Mrs. Poole was a retired emergency management coordinator for Gwinnett County and was a member of New Salem United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Banks County Planning Commission.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 4, at New Salem United Methodist Church with the Rev. Don Scott officiating. Burial was in the Poole Family Cemetery, Commerce.
Mrs. Poole is survived by her husband, Roy Poole, Commerce; one son, Roy Poole Jr., Commerce; one daughter, Sherri Blackburn, Commerce; three brothers, David Nichols, Commerce, Gene Nichols, Lula, and James Ray Nichols, Maysville; one sister, Virginia Evans, Commerce; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, was in charge of arrangements.

Kasey M. Leachman
Kasey Marie Leachman, infant daughter of Walter Leachman and Sherry Embrick, Hull, diedThursday, May 23, 2002, at Athens Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.
Kasey was bornJanuary 21, 2002, in Clarke County.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 25, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Bill Carpenter officiating. Burial was in Howington Cemetery, Nicholson.
Survivors, in addition to her parents, include one brother, Jonathan Howard Leachman, Hull; two sisters, Britney Kay Embrick and Paige Bloom, both of Hull; maternal grandparents, Leonard and Diane Embrick, Bogart; paternal grandmother, Hazel Lee Leachman, Maysville; and paternal great-grandfather, Howard Walter Leachman, Maysville.
Memorials may be made to a Trust Fund at Athens First Bank and Trust Company in care of Leonard Embrick or Sherry Embrick.
Ivie Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

George P. Anglin
George Paul Anglin, 72, of Colbert, diedSaturday, May 25, 2002.
Born in Madison County, Mr. Anglin was a son of the late Waymon Elmer and Ella Louise Hunsinger Anglin.
He had been employed with Westinghouse and was a member of Macedonia Holiness Church.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 27, at Macedonia Holiness Church with the Rev. William Anglin officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Wayne McClain, Jason Baxter, Carter Dove, Mark Highland, Rusty Chandler and Jeff Anglin served as pallbearers.
Mr. Anglin is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Strickland Anglin; six daughters, Carol Paulette Anglin, Bowman, Linda Bernice Highland and Debra Lynn Anglin, both of Danielsville; Barbara McClain, Comer, Audrey Diane Jackson, Nicholson, and Stacie Marie Anglin, Colbert; two sons, George Paul Anglin Jr. and Richard Russell Anglin, both of Colbert; three sisters, Irene Thompson, Bonnie Sue West and Ella Mae Dove, all of Ila; three brothers, Ardis Anglin, Waymon Anglin and Jessie Anglin, all of Danielsville; 21 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Brown Funeral Home, Danielsville, was in charge of arrangements.

Lonnie B. Chambers
Mrs. Lonnie Belle English Chambers, 87, of Commerce, diedFriday, May 24, 2002, at BJC Nursing Home, Commerce.
A native of Houston County, Mrs. Chambers was bornJanuary 15, 1915, a daughter of the late Will and Fannie Cotton English.
She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist denomination. Mrs. Chambers was preceded in death by her husband, John Chambers.
Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 26, in the Riverside Baptist Church cemetery, Maysville, with the Rev. Bill Carpenter officiating.
Survivors include two sons, James Chambers, Homer, and Johnny Chambers, Commerce; three daughters, Myrtle Cowart and Betty Minish, both of Commerce, and Eloise Gregory, Fairmont; one brother, Floyd English, Hawkinsville; 15 grandchildren 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, was in charge of arrangements.

Ruth Adams
Mrs. Ruth Adams, 72, of Hull, diedSunday, May 26, 2002.
A native of Madison County, Mrs. Adams was a daughter of the late Clifford Melvin and Vella Gooch Bradley.
She was employed as a greeter with Wal-Mart at Banks Crossing and was a member of Gordon’s Chapel United Methodist Church. Mrs. Adams was preceded in death by her husband, Orin “Big” Adams.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, at Gordon’s Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert Passmore officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Russ Adams, Lee Adams, Ronnie Williams, Ricky Busbin, Kenny Bradley and Jerry Bird served as pallbearers.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and David Hawks, Nicholson, Becky and Steve Hill, Hull, Janet and Joey Goetz, Ila, Sherry Allen, Hull, and William Hardman; sisters, Norene Eller, Demorest, Mozelle Bird, Ila, Mary Hooper, Comer, and Catherine Callaway, Hull; brothers, Tommy Bradley, Ila, and Robert Bradley, Hull; grandchildren, Amy Hawks, Scott Hawks, Josh Hill, Alex Hill, Deena Goetz, Bradley Allen and Adam Allen; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1060 Gaines School Road, Athens, GA 30605.

Ruby M. Reece
Mrs. Ruby M. Reece, 92, of Winder, formerly of Hoschton, diedSunday, May 26, 2002.
Born in Weekly County, Tenn., Mrs. Reece was a daughter of the late Joseph and Fannie Brawner Myrick. She was the wife of the late A.C. Reece.
Mrs. Reece was a homemaker and was a member of Hoschton United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by a son, Marion F. Reece, and a sister, Nell Clouse.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 29, in the chapel of Carter Funeral Home, Winder, with the Rev. Darrell McGinnis officiating. Burial was in the Hoschton City Cemetery.
Survivors include one daughter, Edna Sell, Hoschton; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Carter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

James A. Scogin
James Allen “Black Racer” Scogin, 60, of Colbert, diedThursday, May 23, 2002.
A native of Madison County, Mr. Scogin was the son of Robert Scogin and the late Mary Louise Carter Scogin. He was the grandson of the late Robert “Bill” and Annie Louise Goss Scogin and the late Harvey and Ester Carter. Following the death of his mother, Mr. Scogin was raised by his aunt, Azilee Nation.
He was an electrician and was of the Baptist denomination. Mr. Scogin also raced cars on dirt tracks and was very involved with his grandson’s racing team, JSR.
“He was loved and respected by all,” said family members.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 25, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, Madison Chapel, with the Rev. Albert Vaughn officiating. Burial was in the Kirk-Scogin Family Cemetery, Colbert. Shaun Hardman, Jason Elrod, Scott Lance, Michael Scogin, Ronnie Scogin and Keith Thompson served as pallbearers.
In addition to his father, Mr. Scogin is survived by his wife, Gail Scogin, Colbert; daughter and son-in-law, Teresa Gail Scogin Janson and Kevin Janson, Colbert; daughter, Donna Lynette Scogin Davis, Colbert; son, Jeffery Allen Scogin, Colbert; grandchildren, Brandon Kevin James Janson and Briana Gail Janson, both of Colbert; brother, Robert “Billy” Scogin, Colbert; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mildred and James Lance, Pendergrass, Peggy and Ronald Elrod, Commerce, and Sandra “Sandy” and Tim Hardman, Pocataligo; six nephews, three nieces and several great nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1060 Gaines School Road, Ste. B-2, Athens, GA 30605.

Mildred J. Henderson
Mrs. Mildred Jean Henderson, 59, of Com-merce, diedSaturday, May 25, 2002, at her residence following a brief illness.
Mrs. Henderson was bornSeptember 16, 1942, in Jackson County, to the late Robert Lee Embrick and Annie Fedricks Embrick.
She was a retired cook and was a member of Berea Baptist Church.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 29, in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce, with the Rev. Len Bernat officiating.
Mrs. Henderson is survived by her husband, Howard Henderson, Commerce; two sons, Eugene Henderson, Maysville, and Bruce Clayton, Commerce; two daughters, Michelle Henderson, Commerce, and Melissa Henderson, Watkinsville; two brothers, Charles Embrick, Lexington, and Harold Embrick, Commerce; two sisters, Dot Austin, Commerce, and Venice Roberts, Athens; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, was in charge of arrangements.

Claude Davenport
Claude Davenport, 77, of Comer, diedFriday, May 24, 2002.
A native of Madison County, Mr. Davenport was a son of the late Harvey and Birdie Davenport.
He was a member of Springfield Baptist Church, Comer.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, at Springfield Baptist Church with Pastor Larry E. Blount officiating.
Mr. Davenport is survived by his wife, Emmaline Johnson; one daughter, Edith Appling, Athens; one son, Claude Davenport Jr., Comer; one sister, Birdie Lou Simmons, Atlanta; one brother, Harvey Davenport Jr.; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Mack & Payne Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
