Thomas F. Erdman Jr., 79, of Ferguson, Mo., and formerly of Athens, diedTuesday, July 23, 2002.
Mr. Erdman was bornin Baltimore, Md., a son of the late Thomas F. Sr. and Mary A. Norton Erdman.
He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army, and was a retired Southern Baptist minister. Mr. Erdman was a member of New Harmony Baptist Church, Nicholson.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Monday, July 29, at New Harmony Baptist Church with the Revs. Howard Garrison and Kenneth Dillard officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Curt Hockemeyer, Ken Seabolt, James Loggins, Andy Seabolt, Davis Ray and Jason Lowe served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were nieces and nephews.
Mr. Erdman is survived by his wife, Dorothy L. Hawks Erdman, Ferguson, Mo.; one daughter, Georgia Whinery, Ferguson, Mo.; one son, Tom Stone-Erdman, Palatka, Fla.; one sister, Edith Wardell, Baton Rouge, La.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Larry Dale Downey, 52, of Commerce, diedThursday, July 25, 2002.
Born in Lynn County, Ala., Mr. Downey was a son of the late Floyd Monroe and Dorothy Ann Cooper Downey.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during Vietnam, and was employed as a dispatcher for McClains, Athens. Mr. Downey was of the Baptist denomination.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 28, in the chapel of Brown Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the Rev. Sam Dorsey officiating.
Mr. Downey is survived by his wife, Karlene Hill Downey; one daughter, Paris Dawn Epps, Winterville; one son, Shawn Keith Stilwell, Danielsville; one sister, Billie Owsley, Fayetteville, N.C.; one brother, Robert Downey, Tampa, Fla.; and four grandchildren, Tyler Stilwell, Trenton Epps, Alexys Stilwell and Ashlyn Stilwell.

Mrs. Sylvia Lee Seagroves Overcash, 66, of Elberton, diedSaturday, July 27, 2002, at Elbert Memorial Hospital, Elberton.
Mrs. Overcash was bornin Tift County on October 4, 1935, a daughter of the late Ora Mae Justice Howard.
She was retired from the textile industry and was of the Pentecostal Holiness denomination. Mrs. Overcash was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Overcash.
Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church cemetery with the Rev. Reggie Vaughn officiating.
Survivors include two daughters, Debbie Seagroves Moon, Royston, and Phyllis Verdane Saunders, North Carolina; one brother, Charles E. Howard, Macon; five grandchildren, Amber Meeks, Kite, Amanda Seagroves Setchel, Hartwell, Melissa Saunders and Kevin Saunders, both of North Carolina, and Heather Moon, Royston; and two great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Irma Lou Compton Brewer, 84, of Bogart, diedThursday, July 25, 2002.
A native of Madison County, Mrs. Brewer was the daughter of the late James Augustus and Zell Parham Compton.
She was a member of Mars Hill Baptist Church. Mrs. Brewer was preceded in death by her loving husband, Paul Brewer, three brothers, Guy, Talmadge and Allen Compton, and a sister, Ruby Compton.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 27, at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, West, Bogart, with the Revs. W.C. Tribble and Charles Jones officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Park.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Jo and Charles Whitehead, Bogart; grandchildren, David Whitehead, Bogart, and Annette Turner, Statham; great-grandchild, Justin Paul Whitehead, Bogart; sister-in-law, Mattie Compton, Hull; and several nieces and nephews.

James Marvin Bryant, 77, of Jefferson, formerly of Franklin County, diedTuesday, July 23, 2002, at his home.
Mr. Bryant was bornin Franklin County on February 8, 1925. He was a son of the late James Washington Bryant and the late Liza Jane Looney Bryant.
Mr. Bryant was a retired farmer and was of the Baptist denomination. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Bryant was preceded in death by three children, J.M. and A.M. Bryant and Annie Sue Bryant, one brother, Thomas Bryant, and three sisters, Ella Ware, Addie Whited and Susie Hill.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Friday, July 26, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, with the Revs. Robbie Black and Buddy Barron officiating. Burial was in the Zidon Baptist Church cemetery.
Mr. Bryant is survived by his wife, Lula Mae Dowell Bryant, Jefferson; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ellen and Leonard Jones, Jefferson; brother, Lonnie O. Miss Sarah Frances Sexton, 75, of Athens, diedWednesday, July 24, 2002, at Athens Regional Medical Center.
Miss Sexton was bornin Madison County on July 27, 1927, a daughter of the late Earl Lee and Idell McEwen Sexton.
She was a member of Evangelical Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, Miss Sexton was preceded in death by two brothers, Norman Sexton and Fred Sexton.
Funeral services were held at 5 p.m. Thursday, July 25, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, with the Rev. Tim Peek officiating. Burial was in Danielsville Memorial Gardens.

Lon Gribble
Lon Gribble, 76, of Clarkesville, formerly of Lakeland, Fla., diedFriday, July 26, 2002, at his residence following an extended illness.
Born in Habersham County on June 23, 1926, Mr. Gribble was the son of the late James B. and Winnie Lee Hill Gribble.
He was a retired manager with Ridge Lumber Company, Lakeland, Fla., and was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in World War II. Mr. Gribble attended the Cornelia Church of God and was a member of the North Side Assembly of God in Lakeland, Fla., where he served as deacon for many years.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Lurline Holbrook.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 29, at Harvest Ministries Church, Jacksonville, Fla., with the Rev. Eddie Tanner officiating. Services were also held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 31, at Cornelia Church of God with the Revs. Eddie Tanner, Wilmer Ivester and Len Pirkle officiating. Burial was in Clarkesville Memorial Cemetery.
Mr. Gribble is survived by his wife, Alma O’Steen Gribble, Clarkesville; daughters, Winnie Higgins, Comer, and Donna Coleman, Charlotte, N.C.; son, James Gribble, Auburndale, Fla.; brother, James M. Gribble, Clarkesville; sisters, Eula Belle Franklin and Lila Alley, Clarkesville; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Seay was the son of Walter L. Seay and Mildred Ann Seay, Danielsville.
He worked in construction with Shelton & Son, of Danielsville.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 29, at Line Baptist Church with the Revs. Walter Singletary and Ardis Anglin officiating. David Moore, Phillip Croya, Matt Pilkington, Anthony Anglin, Randy Gosnell and Joseph Looney served as pallbearers. Kirby Allen Greer, 89, of Danielsville, diedSaturday, September 28, 2002.
A native of Gwinnett County, Mr. Greer was a son of the late John H. and Mary Henderson Greer. He was preceded in death by a son, John Allen Greer.
Mr. Greer was an automobile mechanic and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Ila Baptist Church.
Mr. Greer was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 1, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the Rev. James Sexton officiating. Burial was in Danielsville Memorial Gardens. Mr. Greer’s nephews served as pallbearers.
Survivors include his wife, Sara Jones Greer; son, Jason Corbitt Greer, and his wife, Phyllis, Ellenwood; daughter-in-law, Mary Nelle Greer, Duluth; step-daughter, Sandra Doolittle, Danielsville; grandchildren, Jay Greer, Duluth, and Danna Greer Daughtry, Lawrenceville; great-grandchildren, Wesley Daughtry, Samantha Daughtry and Justin Daughtry; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Willie Genoa Bruce Bridges, 75, of Comer, diedWednesday, September 25, 2002, at her home.
Mrs. Bridges was bornin Oglethorpe County on August 11, 1927, a daughter of the late Tom and Mary Ann Harrington Bruce.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Corinth Congregational Holiness Church in Bowman. Mrs. Bridges was preceded in death by her husband, Merlin Griffin Bridges, and a grandson, Michael Jones.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Friday, September 27, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, with the Rev. Carl Herring officiating. Burial was in the Macedonia Holiness Church cemetery. Jimmy Strickland, Tony Scoggins, Scottie Bruce, Josh Johnson, Terry Shelton, John Sims and Mitchell Brooks served as pallbearers.
Survivors include three daughters, Ethelene Jones and Dora Ann Scoggins, both of Bowman, and Linda Strickland, Comer; five sons, Tony Bruce, Martin, David Bruce and Wayne Bruce, both of Bowman, Greg Bruce, Royston, and Dale Bruce, Lavonia; two brothers, Freeman Bruce and Claude Lee Bruce, both of Comer; 22 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
