Letcher Campbell
Letcher Campbell, 84, of Comer, diedWednesday, January 22, 2003, at Comer Healthcare Center.
Mr. Campbell was bornApril 10, 1918, in Madison County, a son of the late Richard and Donnie Fowler Campbell.
He was a carpenter and was past member of the National Coon Hunter Association. Mr. Campbell was preceded in death by his wife, Dessie Lou Simmons Campbell, and several brothers and sisters.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 24, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, with the Rev. Ray Jenkins officiating. Burial was in the Bluestone Baptist Church cemetery.
Survivors include two sons, Paul Campbell, Cuthbert, and Sharon Campbell, Alvaton; five sisters, Annie Sue Christian and Frances Childs, both of Royston, Rhea Beard, Athens, Joyce Campbell, Danielsville, and Decie Lee Bryant, South Carolina; one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter.
Pruitt Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mary G. Lee
Mrs. Mary Gibson Lee, 76, of Hull, diedMonday, January 27, 2003.
A native of Telfair County, Mrs. Lee was a daughter of the late James Aubrey and Sallie Belle Damaron Gibson. She was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Lee, and a son, Patrick (E.J.) Burch.
She was a member of Redstone United Methodist Church.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 29, at Redstone United Methodist Church with the Revs. Jerry Varnado and Roy Smith officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mrs. Lee’s nephews served as pallbearers.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda Taylor, Hull, and Virginia Brown, Birmingham, Ala.; one son, Michael Fields, LaFayette, Tenn.; one brother, A.G. Gibson, Jefferson; five sisters, Sue Hawkins, Athens, Jean Morgan, Watkinsville, Carol Dills and Nell Archer, both of Jefferson, and Jackie Gibson, Royston; nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Bernstein Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Sandra Owens
Mrs. Sandra Ann Alewine Owens, 47, of Commerce, diedMonday, January 27, 2003.
A native of Clarke County, Mrs. Owens was a daughter of Tony and Dorothy Alewine, Athens.
She was a lifelong resident of the area and was formerly employed with Gateway Restaurant.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 31, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, East, Athens, with the Rev. Clay Huff officiating.
Survivors, in addition to her parents, include her husband, Gilbert Owens; son, Montana Mace, Orlando, Fla.; sisters, Rose Patterson and Chris Garrison, both of Hull; and brothers, Mike Alewine, Ricky Alewine and Paul Alewine, all of Athens.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Brenda Collins
Mrs. Brenda Frances Smith Collins, 56, of Comer, diedSunday, January 26, 2003.
A native of Chattanooga, Tenn., Mrs. Collins was the daughter of the late Roy J. Smith and Doris Miller. She was preceded in death by a son, Delmas Brent Fitzpatrick.
Mrs. Collins was a homemaker.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 2, at Lyerly Baptist Church, Lyerly.
Mrs. Collins is survived by her husband, David F. Collins; son and daughter-in-law, Jeffery G. and Christine Fitzpatrick, Carlton; daughter and son-in-law, Alexandria and Art Berry, Watkinsville; sisters, Nancy Johnson, California, Sandra Lee, Buford, Paula McNeese, Lyerly, and Jennifer Smith, Ringgold; brothers, Butch Smith and Greg Smith, both of Lafayette; step-father and step-mother, Ross and Mary Lou Martin, Lafayette; grandsons, Jason Fitzpatrick and Nicholas Berry, both of Watkinsville, and Jeffery G. Fitzpatrick Jr. and Philip Fitzpatrick, both of Carlton; granddaughters, Meagan Susan Fitzpatrick, Carlton, Isabella Berry, Watkinsville, and Krista Fitzpatrick and Jenna Fitzpatrick, both of Pennsylvania; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Thomas A. Davison III
Thomas A. Davison III, 82, of Nicholson, diedSaturday, January 25, 2003, at his residence.
Mr. Davison was bornin Sumter County on November 29, 1920, the son of the late Thomas A. Davison Jr. and Lottie Hill Davison.
A Pearl Harbor survivor, Mr. Davison was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II 25th Infantry, serving in the South Pacific and Korea. He was retired from the State of Georgia as a security guard at the World Congress Center and was a member of Nicholson Baptist Church. Mr. Davison was a volunteer chaplain at the Veterans Hospital in Decatur for eight years.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 28, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. Ralph Easterwood and Terry Smith officiating.
Mr. Davison is survived by his wife, Betty Nadine Jenkins Davison, Nicholson; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Gary Underwood, Kingston Springs, Tenn.; sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas A. Davison IV and Andre Davison, Fort Myers, Fla., Malcolm and Leslie Davison, Independence, Kan., William and Muriel Davison, Cumming, and Charles and Denise Davison, Columbia, S.C.; step-sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry William and Anne Owen, Arlington, Wash., Bryan Wayne Owen Sr. and Brenda Owen, Stockbridge, Jefferson Douglas Owen Sr. and Marcela Owen, Milstead, and Christerfer Berry and Kelly Jo Owen, Nicholson; 24 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Nicholson Baptist Church Building Fund, 71 Church Street, Nicholson, GA 30565.

Myrtie A. Wooten
Ms. Myrtie A. Wooten, 98, of Royston, diedThursday, January 23, 2003, at Cobb Memorial Hospital in Royston.
Ms. Wooten was bornAugust 23, 1904, in Franklin County. She was a daughter of the late James and Susie McCollum Wooten.
Ms. Wooten was retired from Swift Company, where she worked in sales for 32 years, and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Atlanta.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Ezra Wooten, Alex Wooten and Frank Wooten, and three sisters, Lillie Wooten, Montine Street and Tinie Wooten. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 26, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, with the Rev. Eldon Massey officiating. Burial was in the Redwine United Methodist Church cemetery.

Mary L. Ray
Mrs. Mary Lois McAdams Ray, 82, of Jefferson, diedWednesday, January 22, 2003.
Mrs. Ray was a native of Gwinnett County. She was a homemaker and a member of White Plains Baptist Church, Jefferson.
Mrs. Ray was preceded in death by her husband, Nathan Howell “Pop” Ray, a daughter, Alice Thompson, and a son, Willie Ray.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 25, in the chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home, Buford, with the Revs. Everest Carlisle and Gary Carlyle officiating. Burial was in the Hebron Baptist Church cemetery, Dacula.
Survivors include daughters, Anne Ray Nix, Hoschton, and Helen Ray Nesbitt, Auburn; daughters and sons-in-law, Estelle and Dean Carlisle, Winder, and Bobbie and the Rev. Everest Carlisle, Braselton; sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Joyce Ray, Hull, David and Debbie Ray, Pendergrass, and Dale and Sandra Ray, Nicholson; step-brother, George McAdams, Berkley Lake; step-sister, Mrs. Rosalee Scott, Suwanee; 32 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Sara Skelton
Mrs. Sara Geneva Dove Skelton, 63, of Royston, diedWednesday, January 22, 2003, at her home.
Mrs. Skelton was bornJuly 16, 1939, in Franklin County, a daughter of the late Grady and Mandy Busby Dove.
She was a seamstress and a member of Grace Baptist Church. Mrs. Skelton was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert Dove, Lee Dove and Howard Dove.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 24, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, with the Rev. Andy Huff officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Skelton is survived by her husband, George Devant Skelton, Royston; one sister, Jean Carey, Danielsville; two brothers, Rayford Dove, Royston, and Raymond Dove, Hartwell; and several nieces and nephews.
Pruitt Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Edmund
‘Ed’ McGrew
Edmund Kenneth “Ed” McGrew, 68, of Athens, diedFriday, January 24, 2003.
A native of Pittsburgh, Pa., Mr. McGrew was a son of the late Edward James and Louise Lashock McGrew.
He retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years of service and was employed with Westinghouse, then VeraTec until his retirement. Mr. McGrew was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Karl McGrew.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 27, in the chapel of Bernstein Funeral Home, Athens, with Father Dayro Rico officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors.
Mr. McGrew is survived by his wife, Mary Arthur McGrew, Athens; daughters, Page Brewer, Danielsville, and Sharon Mize, Athens; sisters, Barbara Steglinski, Gilmer, Texas, Patti Reyome and Louise Bowen, both of Riverside, Calif.; brothers, James B. Richards, Mineola, Texas, Larry McGrew, Phoenix, Ariz., and Danny McGrew, Crown Point, Ind.; sister-in-law, Terry Arthur; grandchildren, Taylor Mize and Ashley Brewer; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the Vista Care Foundation, 767 Oglethorpe Avenue, Athens, GA 30606, or to the St. Joseph Catholic School Building Fund, 134 Prince Avenue, Athens, GA 30601.

Michael D. Drake
Michael David Drake, 52, of Carlton, diedSaturday, January 25, 2003.
A native of Athens, Mr. Drake was a son of the late Robert Lee and Julia Chandler Drake.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 28, in the Macedonia Holiness Church cemetery with the Rev. Roy Sorrow officiating. Marion Gunter, Alfred Sorrow, David Gunter, Junior Towe, Tommy Towe and George Hubbard served as pallbearers.
Survivors include a sister, Patricia Gunter, Carlton; and several nieces and nephews.
Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, Danielsville was in charge of arrangements.
