Eula M. Crocker
Mrs. Eula Mae Crocker, 94, of Commerce, diedThursday, June 3, 2004, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Athens, of an extended illness.
Mrs. Crocker was the daughter of the late Hubert and Bessie Pruitt Leach, and the wife of the late Herman Young (Brud) Crocker. She was preceded in death by a son, Fred J. Crocker.
Mrs. Crocker retired from Harmony Grove Mill, Commerce, after 57 years of service.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 6, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Kent Cranford officiating. Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
Survivors include two daughters, Juanita Crocker Osborn, Homer, and Judy Crocker Hall, Great Falls, Va.; three grandchildren, Julie Hall Perry, Atlanta, Todd S. Hall, Reston, Va., and Erlene Osborn Stowe, Homer; two great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Madge Barnes
Mrs. Madge Whitmire Barnes, of Royston, diedTuesday, June 1, 2004, at Brown Memorial Convalescent Center in Royston.
Mrs. Barnes was bornin Brevard, N.C., on January 10, 1912, the daughter of the late Cair and Pearl Neill Whitmire.
She was a retired secretary and a member of the Royston First United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the LOVE Circle and the Adult Bible Study.
“Mrs. Barnes was a caring lady, always willing to help others as she served at the Ty Cobb Health Care Center, Pink Ladies Auxiliary,” it was stated.
Mrs. Barnes was preceded in death by her husband, James Doyle Barnes, and a brother, James Whitmire.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, with Dr. Brian Clark officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Royston.
Mrs. Barnes is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Sarah M. Embrick
Mrs. Sarah Miller Embrick, 59, of Jefferson, diedMonday, June 7, 2004, of a sudden illness.
Born in Winnsboro, S.C., Mrs. Embrick was a daughter of L.C. Miller, Hull, and the late Gladys Legrand Harris, and the step-daughter of Mozelle Miller, Hull.
She was a homemaker and a member of Brockton Road Baptist Church. Mrs. Embrick was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Embrick.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson, with the Revs. Doug Merck and Jesse Mealor officiating. Burial was in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce.
Survivors, in addition to her father and step-mother, include one daughter, Janice Sanders, Maysville; two sons, Jerry Childs, Jefferson, and Keith Childs, Commerce; two sisters, Irene Embrick, Commerce, and Nancy Coile, Nicholson; one half-sister, Terry Baxley, West Columbia, S.C.; one brother, Tommy Miller, Commerce; one half-brother, Charles “Bubba” Miller, West Columbia, S.C.; and three grandchildren, Haley and Lauren Sanders and Tyler Childs.

Hattie Foster
Hattie Pearl Foster, 91, Athens, diedMonday, July 26, 2004.
A native of Madison County, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Blanche Williams Gordon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Guy P. Foster; son, Ronnie Foster; grandson, Wade Foster. She was retired from McClellan’s Dime Store and a member of Gordon’s Chapel United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Royce Foster, Athens; four grandchildren, Curtis Foster, Wendy Foster, Kelli Maxey and Kim Foster; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are to be held Friday, July 30, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. in Gordon’s Chapel United Methodist Church with the Revs. Luther Fouche’ and Robert Passmore officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Bernstein Funeral Home Thursday evening from 7:00 to 9:00.

Aubrey Wallace Wade, 83, Commerce, diedTuesday, July 27, 2004, at Hillhaven Nursing Home.
Mr. Wade was bornApril 26, 1921 in Madison County, the son of the late Polly Wade.. With his wife, Wilda Check Wade, Commerce, he owned and operated several retail businesses in the Commerce area, including Wade’s Grocery and Burger Kreem. He was a member of Madison Street Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 29, 2004, at the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home in Commerce, with the Rev. Bill Manus officiating. Burial will take place at Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce.

Francine Brown Beck, 90, Athens, diedThursday, July 22, 2004, after an extended illness.
Mrs. Beck was a homemaker and was employed by Belk for many years in downtown Athens. She was a Charter Member of Central Baptist Church where she was a member of the Dorcas Sunday School Class and taught Sunday School. She held the title of Beauty Queen at St. Mary’s Long Term Care Facility and was first runner-up in Mrs. Georgia Nursing Home in 2000. She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Andrew Beck Sr. and daughter, Frances Beck Adams.

Mr. W.C. Duncan, 85, Danielsville, diedJuly 24, 2004, at the Banks-Jackson-Commerce Medical Center.
Mr. Duncan was the son of the late Johnny and Hester Whitsel Duncan. He was retired from Harmony Grove Mills and was a United States Army Veteran of WW II and a member of Liberty Church.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice Stewart Duncan; son and daughter-in-law Jimmy and Jane Duncan, Danielsville; daughter, Elizabeth Collins, Danielsville; two grandchildren, Wesley and Dale Duncan, Danielsville, and one great-granddaughter, Courtney Duncan, Danielsville.

He was bornin Clarke County, October 16, 1939, the son of the late Jessie Thomas and Geneva Dye Jordan. He was a parts manager and was of the Baptist Faith.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Wood Jordan, Danielsville; three sons, Ricky Jordan, Lawrenceville, Mark Jordan, Danielsville, and Michael Jordan, Bishop; daughter, Denese McClellan, Cleveland, TN; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services are to be held Friday, July 30, 2004, 3 p.m., at Pruitt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tim Peek officiating. He was the son of Eddie Vera (Jackson) Westmoreland and was preceded in death by his father, Branson Westmoreland.

Russell Sanders, 69, East Point, diedSunday, July 25, 2004 at Christian Minstries Hospice.
He was bornon July 30, 1934 in Jackson County and was the son of the late Margaret Louise (Waldroup) Sanders and Howard Sanders. He was a member of the Connally Drive Baptist Church and a retired snack stand owner.
Survivors include two aunts, Sarah Howington, Jefferson, and Katie Wilson, Charleston, SC.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 29, 2004 in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home. The Rev. Donald Wilson will officiate. Burial will be in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.

Mrs. Smith was a daughter of the late Lester and Jettie Burt Matthews. She was a homemaker and was a member of the Glade Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Smith.
Survivors include a brother-in-law, J.P. “Jake” Smith, Carlton; a sister-in-law, Syble Smith, Carlton; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday, July 25, 2004, at the chapel of Hicks Funeral Home in Elberton, with the Rev. John Griffeth officiating. Burial was in the Glade Cemetery.
