Frances Odell LeCroy Slaton, 90, of Royston, diedSaturday, October 2, 2004, at Hart County Hospital.
Born in Oconee County, S.C., July 22, 1914, she was a daughter of the late Willie Snow and Emma Shiflet LeCroy. She was a seamstress and a member of the Royston Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Tom and Ed LeCroy, and a sister, Idell Busby.
Survivors include a son, Tommy Slaton, Martin; daughter, Naomi Slaton Scogin, Royston; brothers, Curt LeCroy, Athens, Jimmy LeCroy, Greenville, S.C. Gene LeCroy, Belton, S.C.; sisters, Louisa Busby, Lavonia, JoAnn Skelton, Starr, S.C., Ruth Page, Belton, S.C., Shirley Holcombe, Anderson, S.C., Cecil Saylors, Braselton, Willie Mae Graham, Crossroads, S.C.; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, October 4, in the chapel of the Pruitt Funeral Home with the Rev. Byron Greene and Dr. Danny Barton officiating. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Royston.

Gladys Shelton
Gladys Davis Shelton, 86, of Nicholson, diedSunday, October 3, 2004, at Athens Regional Medical Center, Athens.
Born in Hart County, August 2, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Callie Little Davis. Mrs. Shelton worked in the manufacturing of paper product. She was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
Survivors include one sister, Azalee Dove, Nicholson.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, October 5, at the Rose Hill Cemetery with Mr. Vernon Boswell officiating.

‘Bob’ Heath
Dr. Robert W. "Bob" Heath, 67, of Franklin Springs, diedSaturday, November 27, 2004, at Cobb Memorial Hospital, Royston.
Born in Tulsa, Okla. August 15, 1937, he was the son of Sue Wever Heath, Tulsa, Okla., and the late A.J. (Jack) Heath. He was a retired College Professor at Emmanuel College and also had taught at Oral Roberts University and Southwest-ern Bible College. Before his death he was teaching online for the University of Maryland. Dr. Heath was an Ordained Minister in the Pentecostal Holiness Church and attended The Grove in Maysville. He was a member of Georgia Communication Association, Geor-gia Golf Association, Family Motor Coach Association and the Georgia Newmar Motor Coach Association. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon Lynne Heath, and a half-sister, Jacqueline Heath Hume.
Survivors include his wife, Hester L. Henderson Heath, Franklin Springs; son, Robert D. Heath, Alpharetta; daughter, Susan Heath Johnson, Monroe; his mother; brothers, A.J. (Jim) Heath, Tulsa, Okla., and Charles Heath, Wellington, Fla.; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 30, at the Franklin Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Glen Howard and Pastor Jeff Appling officiating. Burial was in Eternal Hills Memory Gardens, Snellville.

Sara Bond
Sara L. Bond, 78, of Canon, diedThursday, November 25, 2004, at Athens Regional Medical Center, Athens.
Born February 26, 1926, in Anderson, S.C., she was the daughter of the late R.F. Locke and Ophelia Partain Locke. She was a retired paraprofessional for the Hart County School System, where she served for 27 years at the Eagle Grove Elementary School. She was a former member of the Redwine Home Demonstration Club and a member of the Hartwell First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willis Franklin Bond.
Survivors include her sons, Sonny Bond, Royston, Bobby Bond, Colbert, and David Bond, LaGrange; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, November 27, in the chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with the Rev. Ted Kelly officiating. Burial was in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park.

Frances Anderson
Frances Bone Anderson, 83, of Winterville Retirement Center, Winterville, diedMonday, November 22, 2004, from the effects of Alzheimer’s disease.
The daughter of Ralph J. and Frances Wyland Bone, she was bornin Onslow, Iowa January 10, 1921. Educated in the public schools of Monticello, Iowa, she was a graduate of Grinnell College. Mrs. Anderson taught history and government in the Algonia, Iowa and Boone, Iowa schools. She lived in Alliance, Iowa for 17 years and in Glendale, Ca. for seven before moving to Athens in 1974.
She was always interested in education and governmental affairs, served as a volunteer tutor for grade school children, taught Sunday School, and assisted wives of foreign students in learning English. She was an active member of the League of Women Voters and organized the first Head Start in Alliance. She participated in the Athens Council on Aging and the Meals-on-Wheels program.
Her friends admired her warm, friendly manner as well as her homemaking skills. An excellent cook, she particularly enjoyed making dozens of cookies and many candies at Christmas. Friends looked forward to her annual Cookie Day. She sewed and knitted various articles, among them baby blankets for her friends. Blessed with a good sense of humor, she collected jokes and passed them on when she visited any friends who may have been house bound or hospitalized. An avid reader, she shared her books with others. She was preceded in death by three brothers.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Charles H. Anderson; son, Jeffrey Anderson, New Castle, Ca.; daughters, Barbara Muratore, Athens, JoEllen Giesbrecht (Mrs. Steve) of Hull and Julie Chapman (Mrs. Carl), Alpharetta; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were held Monday, November 29, at Covenant Presbyterian Church with the Revs. James Bowden, Mark Harper and Beecher Mathes officiating.
Memorials may be made to Meals-on-Wheels program and the Athens Council on Aging.

Lula Smith
Lula Margaret Smith, 86, of Dewy Rose, formerly of the Sandy Cross Community in Franklin County, diedFriday, November 26, 2004, at the Cobb Memorial Hospital in Royston.
She was bornin Franklin County September 22, 1918, daughter of the late James Tom and Etta Carey Smith. Mrs. Smith was a retired textile worker with Candlewick Industries and attended Dewy Rose Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a brother, William Howell Smith and sister, Millie Horne.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Harvey Lee and Shirley Crowe, Dewy Rose; brother, Carey Williard Smith, Royston; sisters, Tommie Lou Rice, Canon, Veba Phillips, Etta Jo Bell, and Mary Jean Smith, all of Royston; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday, November 28, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home with the Revs. Gary Purvis and Kenny Martin officiating. Burial was in the Pennington Chapel UMC Cemetery.

Ruby Peeples
Ruby Peeples, 85, of Canon, diedThursday, November 25, 2004, at Cobb Memorial Hospital in Royston.
Born in Franklin County November 19, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Asa and Ethel Allen Peeples. She was a homemaker and member of the Double Branches Baptist Church. Mrs. Peeples was preceded in death by her husband, Frank H. Peeples; a son, Bobby Peeples; daughter, Jeanette Adams; and granddaughter, Donna Rudeseal.
Survivors include children, Betty Baskins, Margaret Fortson and June Brooks, all of Danielsville, Joel Peeples, Canon, Linda Rudeseal, Elaine Finley, Kathy Fowler and Helen Banister, all of Royston, Don Peeples, Elberton, Ellen Matthews, Lexington, and Tammy Fitzpatrick, Bowersville; sisters, Eula Outz, Rachel Whitworth and Lattie Wooten, all of Lavonia, and Florence Norris, Gastonia, N.C.; 34 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Janice Lyons
Janice M. Lyons, 67, of Danielsville, diedSunday, November 28, 2004, at Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens following a brief illness.
Born May 27, 1937, in Gosport, Ind., she had lived in Middletown and Sulphur Springs most of her life before moving to Georgia in 1984. She graduated from Pendleton High School in 1955 and had worked at Next Day Apparel Incorporated in Ila for several years. Mrs. Lyons was a former member of the Middletown Nazarene Church and a member of the Eagle Nest Ministry in Ila. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert L. and Violet Marie Hancock, son, Dana Karl Bishop, brother, Robert Charles Hancock; sister, Myra Jane Fridley, and a sister-in-law, Emma Lou Hancock.
Survivors include three daughters and son-in-law, Marcella Jane “Marty” and Rick Hollenback and Debbie C. Lyons, all of Danielsville, Lisa Marie Granger (finance’ Frankie White), Ila, Debbie C.; son and daughter-in-law, Allen Dale and Rita West, Danielsville; nine grandchildren, Tammy, Christina, Ashley, Amber Nichole, Isaih00, Chance K., Canyon C., Amber and Bryan; five great-grand-children; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Arthur Dale and Joyce Hancock, Danielsville, Terry Lee and Melinda Hancock, Marion, Ind., Steven Earl Hancock, Danielsville, Michael and Aria Hancock, Indianapolis, Ind.; two sisters, Roberta Ann Ball, Marion, Ind., and Phyllis Jean Hymer, Bogart; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Mary Edna Fowler Briscoe, 63, of Brown Memorial Convalescent Center in Royston, diedSunday, November 28, 2004, at Cobb Memorial Hospital, Royston.
Born in Franklin County October 2, 1941, she was the daughter of the late James Mack Fowler and Mayola Haley Fowler. Mrs. Briscoe was a homemaker and attended the Peniel Pentecostal Holiness Church. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Stewart, L.C. (Pete), Marvin and Boyce Fowler, and one sister, Bertha Price.
Survivors include sons, Dennis Briscoe, Royston, and Kenny Briscoe, Carnesville; daughter, Donna Briscoe, Carnesville; sisters, Cathryn Cromer, Salisbury, N.C., Rachel Royston, Joyce Floyd and Ruby Brown, all of Royston; and JoAnn Peeples, Canon; brother, Jack Fowler, Kannapolis, N.C.; and six grandchildren.

Cynthia Perry Nelms, 44, of Colbert, diedMonday, November 29, 2004.
Born in Athens, she was the daughter of Eugene Perry and the late Shirley Wilson Perry.
Survivors include a son, Shaun Nelms; brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Robin Perry, Alpharetta; sisters and brothers-in-law, Meg and James McCart, Greensboro, and Susan and Timmy Evans, Milledgeville; grandson, Jackson Nelms; five nieces and nephews; and companion, Dan Hollifield, Colbert.

Charlie Fortson
Charlie Homer Fortson, 84, of Charlotte, N.C., diedFriday, November 26, 2004, at the home of his son in Locust, N.C.
Born July 23, 1920, in Madison County, he was the son of the late Thomas Jackson and Lizzie C. Lord Fortson. Mr. Fortson was retired from Scandura Belting Company as a loom fixer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jennie Mae Barber Fortson, son-in-law, Richard Barker, and brother, Dupree Fortson.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne Fortson, Bessemer City, N.C., Larry and Ruth Fortson, Locust, N.C., and Daniel and Deborah Fortson, Lancaster, S.C.; two step-daughters and step-son-in-law, Dorothy Barber Barker, Boone, N.C. and Nancy Barber and James Bailey, Nokesville, Va.; two brothers, Este Fortson, Danielsville, and Daryl Fortson, Salisbury, N.C.; two sisters, Lucy and Mary Hazelrig, both of Cleveland, Ala.; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
