William R. Bedgood Jr.
William Randall Bedgood Jr., 82, of Athens, diedTuesday, September 28, 1999.
A native of Athens, Mr. Bedgood was a son of the late W.R. Bedgood Sr. and Melba McGowan Bedgood.
A World War II veteran, he was decorated four times with the Silver Star for his 41 missions over North Africa, Italy and Axis occupied countries as a B-17 bomber pilot. Mr. Bedgood was retired as a Lt. Colonel from the U.S. Air Force Reserve and was a local businessman, starting with Bedgood Lumber and Coal Company, then the University Hotel Court.
He was a charter member of Beech Haven Baptist Church, was a former member of the Clarke County Board of Education and was a member of the Georgia House of Representatives. Mr. Bedgood also served as a Clarke County Commissioner and was a Rotarian. He was preceded in death by a son, William Randall "Bill" Bedgood III.
Funeral services were held Friday, October 1, at Beech Haven Baptist Church with Dr. Stewart Simms officiating. Burial was in Oconee Hill Cemetery. Rick McCue, Jack McCue, Jay Kelly, Christopher Miller, Ed Warren and Dan Bowdin served as pallbearers.
Survivors include two daughters, Diane B. Miller, Atlanta, and Glyn B. Green, Beaufort, S.C.; three sons, Richard C. Bedgood, Athens, James D. Bedgood, Colbert, and Robert E. Bedgood, Cumming; three sisters, Patsy B. Rogers, Colbert, Millie B. Warren, Athens, and Melba B. Mole, Pensacola, Fla.; six grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Beech Haven Baptist Church Building Fund, 2390 W. Broad Street, Athens, GA 30606, or to the charity of one's choice.

Reba P. Ballenger
Mrs. Reba Pendergrass Ballenger, 76, of Commerce, diedFriday, October 1, 1999, at St. Mary's Longterm Care Center.
A native of Franklin County, Mrs. Ballenger was bornFebruary 5, 1923. She was a daughter of the late Thad and Bessie Maebelle Snipes Pendergrass.
Mrs. Ballenger was retired from Blue Bell Manufacturing and was a member of Grove Level Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fredrick Esco Ballenger.
Funeral services were held Sunday, October 3, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. John Turlington officiating. Burial was in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Com-merce.
Survivors include one son, Donald Adams, Toccoa; three daughters, Sybil Looney and Shirley Sorrow, both of Commerce, and Helen Venable, Nicholson; three sisters, Lillie Clark, Royston, Ethel Gary, Commerce, and Maebelle Motes, Porterdale; 15 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Raymond V. DeWaters
Raymond V. DeWaters, 77, of Austell, formerly of Commerce, diedThursday, September 30, 1999.
Mr. DeWaters retired after 21 years of service with the rank of Master Sergeant with the U.S. Army. He was a Prisoner Of War of World War II and received several medals, including the Bronze Star Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Meritorious Unit Emblem, the American Campaign Medal and the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, with three bronze service stars for participation in Rhineland, Central Europe and Ardennes-Alsace campaigns.
Mr. DeWaters also received the World War II Victory Medal, the Army of Occupation Medal with Germany Clasp, the Korean Service Medal, the Combat Infantryman Badge and the United Nations Service Medal.
Funeral services were held Monday, October 4, in the chapel of Davis Struempf Funeral Home, Austell. Full military honors were held at Marietta National Cemetery.
Survivors include one daughter, Linda Cofield, Commerce; two brothers, John DeWaters, Commerce, and James DeWaters, Staten Island, N.Y.; one sister, Mary Peters, Connecticut; and several nieces and nephews.

Robert H. Daniel Jr.
Robert Hoyt Daniel Jr., 67, of Danielsville, diedWednesday, October 27, 1999.
A native of Madison County, Mr. Daniel was a son of the late Robert Hoyt Daniel Sr. and Laura Sexton Daniel.
He was a veteran of the Korean War.
Graveside services were held Saturday, October 30, in Danielsville Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Lanny Cobb officiating.
Mr. Daniel is survived by a niece and nephew.

Marvin R. Moon
Marvin Reid Moon, 67, of Colbert, diedMonday, November 1, 1999.
A native of Cabarrus County, N.C., Mr. Moon was a son of the late J.P. and Gladys McCarty Moon.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict, and was retired from Vend Inc. and United Services. Mr. Moon was a member of Colbert First Baptist Church.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, November 3, in Colbert Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Eberhart Moon; son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Linda Sue Moon, Colbert; two sisters, Ernestine Fleeming, Conyers, and Ann Emery, Danielsville; grandson, Will Moon; and several nieces and nephews.

Marie LaMotte
Mrs. Marie "Thach" LaMotte, 61, of Comer, diedTuesday, October 26, 1999.
Mrs. LaMotte was bornin Cantho, South Vietnam, a daughter of the late Thach Phvoc and Dao Thi Phi.
She was a housekeeper and of the Catholic faith. Mrs. LaMotte was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Joseph LaMotte.
Memorial services were held Saturday, October 30, in the chapel of Brown Funeral Home, Danielsville, with Father Joy Nellissery officiating.
Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Wilbanks, Comer, and Gina Whittington, Sebring, Fla.; one son, Billy LaMotte, Savannah; and eight grandchildren.

Mrs. Hansford was bornin Oglethorpe County, a daughter of the late John and Virgie Matthews Wheless.
She was retired from Chase Street Cafe and was a member of East Athens Baptist Church. Mrs. Hansford was preceded in death by her husband, Allan Hansford.

A native of Clarke County, Mr. Childs was a son of the late James Willie and Lenora Hendrix Childs.
He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a retired security guard with the E.P.A. Mr. Childs was preceded in death by his wife, Clarsy C. Childs, and a daughter, Jennie Marie Crowell.
Funeral services were held Sunday, October 31, in the chapel of Brown Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the Rev. Elmer Butler officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Wendall Evans, Jeff Evans, Mike Tittle, Lee Benton, Robert Cunningham and Mike Mattox served as pallbearers.

Frank H. Carithers Jr., of Comer, 69, diedWednesday, October 27, 1999.
Mr. Carithers was a son of Bertha Carithers and the late Frank Carithers Sr.
He was a retired employee of the City of Athens and was a member of Holly Creek Baptist Church. Mr. Carithers was a member of the N.A.A.C.P., served on the Madison County Board of Family and Children Services and was a city council member for the City of Comer.
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 30, at Holly Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Ronnie Gantt and Scottie Randolph officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Lizzie Carithers; four daughters, Cheryl Carithers Zeigler, Detroit, Mich., Rochelle Skelton, Hull, Terri Alice Carithers, Athens, and Krystal Carithers, Tuskegee, Ala.; three sons, Donnerall Deadwyler, Atlanta, Glenn Carithers and Gary Carithers, both of Comer; and one brother, Douglas Carithers.

Mrs. Sara Elizabeth Murray, 75, of Athens, diedThursday, October 28, 1999.
A native of Oglethorpe County, Mrs. Murray was a daughter of the late Willie Edward and Mattie Mae Blew Wills.
She had been employed with Thomas Textile as a sewing machine operator and was a member of Moons Grove Baptist Church. Mrs. Murray was preceded in death by her husband, John T. Murray, two sons, John Junior Murray and John Edward Murray, and a daughter, Dorothy Jean Murray.
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 30, in the chapel of Brown Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the Revs. Elmer Butler and B.G. Miller and the Rev. Haney officiating. Burial was in the Moons Grove Baptist Church cemetery. Nelson Calloway, Wayne Anderson, Allen Cowart, Larry Evans, Lamar Evans and Allen Gunter served as pallbearers.

Mrs. Sallie Bell Riden, 94, of Carlton, diedMonday, October 25, 1999.
A native of Oglethorpe County, Mrs. Riden was a daughter of the late Byrd and Julie Smith.
She was a member of Rockey Branch Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Mother Board. Mrs. Riden was preceded in death by her first husband, Henry Walton, and her second husband, W.C. Riden.
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 30, at Rockey Branch Baptist Church with the Revs. William Jennings, Luther Mahoney and Ervin Norman officiating. Burial was Fork Grove Cemetery.
Survivors include one daughter, Dora Downer, Carlton; three grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, 19 great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
