Mrs. Vera Perry, 90, of Maysville, diedSunday, October 24, 1999, at Hartwell Health Care Center following an extended illness.
Mrs. Perry was bornApril 25, 1909 in Demorest. She was a daughter of the late Dillard and Leila Martin Vinson.
Mrs. Perry was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her first husband, James Christian Wheeler, and her second husband, Carlton Perry, a brother, Willard Vinson, and two sisters, Eva Vinson Sosbee and Elizabeth Kelley Boas.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, October 27, in the Wheeler Family Cemetery, Maysville, with the Rev. Kenneth Dillard officiating.
Survivors include one son, Charles Wesley Wheeler, Nicholson; two daughters, Barbara McDonald, Malvern, Pa., and Jeanette Powell, Hartwell; one sister, Irene Thompson, Mt. Airy; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Aubrey J. Perry
Aubrey Jewel Perry, 87, of Commerce, diedWednesday, October 20, 1999, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce.
A native of Madison County, Mr. Perry was bornOctober 23, 1911. He was a son of the late Young Luvin and Etta Lee Freeman Perry.
Mr. Perry was retired from Harmony Grove Mill and was a member of Providence Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Reba Bray Perry, five brothers, Berlin Perry, Freeman T. Perry, Y.L. Buster Perry, G.T. Perry and William Perry, and a sister, Fleeta Hooper.
Funeral services were held Friday, October 22, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. Albert Vaughn and Donald Paulson officiating. Burial was in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce.
Mr. Perry is survived by one daughter, Danice Perry, Commerce.

Johnnie R. Williams
Mrs. Johnnie-Ruth Lay Williams, of Commerce, diedSaturday, October 16, 1999.
Mrs. Williams was bornAugust 27, 1931, a daughter of the late John and Evelyn Lay, Jefferson.
She received her early education from the Jefferson School System and graduated from Athens High School. Mrs. Williams joined Paradise A.M.E. Church at an early age where she was a faithful member until joining her husband, Willie A. "Sonny" Williams, at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.
Family members said, "She lived a peaceful and useful life. She was nice to everyone."
Services were held Tuesday, October 19, at Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, Commerce, with the Rev. W.R. Brown officiating. Burial was in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce. Mrs. Williams' nephews served as pallbearers, while deacons of Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church served as honorary pallbearers. Flower ladies were Mrs. Williams' nieces and deaconess of Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church served as honorary flower ladies.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include three children, Shelia Williams, Commerce, and Aubrey D. Williams and Marvita Williams, both of Athens; brothers and sisters-in-law, Clyde R. and Juanita Leigh, Brooklyn, N.Y., and James E. and Elizabeth Leigh and Claude H. and Bobbie Lay, all of Jefferson; sisters, Erma K. Lay and Loretta Lay, both of Jefferson, and Ora Lee Arcinega, Oakwood; sisters and brothers-in-law, Wilma H. and Elie Studivant and Mrya D. and the Rev. J.B. Lester, all of Jefferson; three grandchildren, MSSN Porsha Williams, San Diego, Calif., and Rhonda Burden and Zadrian Williams, both of Athens; and host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Dewitt Davis
Dewitt Davis, 82, of Jefferson, diedSaturday, October 16, 1999, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce.
Mr. Dewitt was bornAugust 1, 1917 to the late Willie Mae Davis.
He joined Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, Commerce, at an early age and attended regularly as his health would allow him. Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta Davis.
Services were held Thursday, October 21, at Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. W.R. Brown officiating. Burial was in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce. Jack Banks, Howard Lyles, Christopher Lester, Lee Mathis, Shawyn Walton, Leroy Niles, Vincent Walker and Hayes Pittman served as pallbearers. Ladies of Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church and Mr. Davis' nieces served as flower ladies.
Mr. Davis is survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Cecil S. McKie
Cecil Seaborn McKie, 49, of Jefferson, diedMonday, October 25, 1999, at Quiet Oaks Health Care.
A native of Jackson County, Mr. McKie was bornFebruary 9, 1950. He was a son of the late J.R. and Myrtle Smallwood McKie.
Mr. McKie was a member of Cabin Creek Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 27, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. Dennis Kesler and Ralph Arnold officiating. Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
Survivors include four brothers, James McKie, Nicholson, Jim McKie, Lexington, Steve McKie, Colbert, and Tommy McKie, Statham; three sisters, Wanda Compton, Comer, Ann McKie, Ila, and May McKie, Colbert.

BALDWIN - Azero H. Smith, 80, diedSaturday, October 2, 1999, at Stephens County Hospital following an extended illness.
A native of Banks County, Mr. Smith was bornOctober 29, 1918. He was a son of the late Virgil and Nellie Armour Smith.
Mr. Smith was retired from Toccoa Manufacturing Company, following several years of service, and was a member of Union Hill Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Smith, and two sisters, Mae Newsome and Willie Payne. Mr. Smith was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Funeral services were held Sunday, October 3, at Union Hill Baptist Church with Elders Paul Bryson and David Bryson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with the Rev. Marvin Loudermilk officiating at graveside.
Survivors include his wife, Mozelle Kelley Smith; two daughters, Brenda Lewallen and Shirley Simmons, both of Baldwin; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A native of Homer, Mr. Roberts was bornApril 18, 1920. He was a son of the late Enoch and Ella Scott Roberts.
Mr. Roberts was a minister.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 5, at The Church of God with the Revs. Melvin Kramer, Louis Gaddis and Henry Webb officiating. Burial was in Midway Cemetery, Gillsville.
Survivors include his wife, Lillian Roberts; four sons, Clayton Greenway and Doug Roberts, both of Gainesville, Terry Greenway, Macon, and Leon Roberts, Maysville; two daughters, Reba Morgan, Gainesville, and Bonnie Parson, Maysville; two brothers, Robert Roberts, Gainesville, and Ted Roberts, Homer; three sisters, Ruby Edge, Gainesville, Ruth Strickland, Homer, and Roberta Watkins, Gillsville; and a large number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A native of Franklin County, Mrs. Ballenger was bornFebruary 5, 1923. She was a daughter of the late Thad and Bessie Maebelle Snipes Pendergrass.
Mrs. Ballenger was retired from Blue Bell Manufacturing and was a member of Grove Level Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fredrick Esco Ballenger.
Funeral services were held Sunday, October 3, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. John Turlington officiating. Burial was in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce.
Survivors include one son, Donald Adams, Toccoa; three daughters, Sybil Looney and Shirley Sorrow, both of Commerce, and Helen Venable, Nicholson; three sisters, Lillie Clark, Royston, Ethel Gary, Commerce, and Maebelle Motes, Porterdale; 15 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

ALTO - Mrs. Polly Armour, 89, diedSaturday, October 2, 1999, at her residence following an extended illness.
Born in Lumpkin County, Mrs. Armour lived most of her life in Hall County. She was a daughter of the late Samuel and Nancy Dockery Waters.
Mrs. Armour was a homemaker and a member of Town Creek Baptist Church, Lumpkin County.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 5, in the chapel of McGahee-Griffin Funeral Home, Cornelia, with the Revs. Jacob Armour and Lester Haynes officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church cemetery with the Rev. Clyde Garrison officiating at graveside.
Survivors include her husband, Leco Armour; six daughters, Imogene Wade, Demorest, Joydean Martin, Cornelia, and Geneva Wade, Doris Jones, Linda Ferguson and Patsy Armour, all of Alto; four sons, Ralph Armour, Cornelia, and Bennie Armour, Perry Armour and L.J. Armour, all of Alto; one brother, Jim Waters, Dahlonega; one sister, Arzona Long, Etowah, Tenn.; 29 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Ledford was bornSeptember 15, 1915 in Yancy County, N.C. He was a son of the late Wates and Myra Hensley Ledford.
Mr. Ledford was a retired logger and farmer and was a member of Barnardsville Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Monday, October 4, in the chapel of Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, with the Revs. Herbert Chisenhall and Oscar Crosby officiating. Burial was in Yonah Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys Banks Ledford; five daughters, Jerlene Robertson, Weaverville, N.C., Peggy Ann Rambo, Lawrenceville, Margie Whitson and Judy Harwood, both of Candler, N.C., and Carolyn Franklin, Hendersonville, N.C.; four sons, Benny Lewis Ledford, Jackson, Earl Winslow Ledford, Asheville, N.C., Jack Ray Ledford, Baldwin, and Freddie Banks Ledford, Alto; three sisters, Bertha Hensley and Mae O'Donnell, both of Barnardsville, N.C., and Pearl Murphy, Johnson City, Tenn.; 16 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
