BETHLEHEM - James "Curly" Cooper, 71, diedMonday, November 27, 2000.
Born in Jackson County, Mr. Cooper had resided in Barrow County for most of his life. He was a son of the late Ira Britt and Willie Mae Lyle Cooper.
Mr. Cooper was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was a retired driver with The Motor Convoy Automotive Transport Company. He was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church.
Mr. Cooper was preceded in death by his wife, Jacqueline Cook Cooper, a son, Gary Cooper, and two brothers, Homer Cooper and Brady Cooper.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 29, in the chapel of Carter Funeral Home, Winder, with the Rev. Jay F. Tenney officiating. Burial was in the Bethlehem United Methodist Church cemetery.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Britt and Judy Cooper, Bethlehem, and Charlie and Deborah Cooper and Richard and Penny Cooper, all of Winder; son, Julian Cooper, Bethlehem; daughter, Tracy Cooper, Bethlehem; brother and sister-in-law, Guy and Joyce Cooper, Winder; and eight grandchildren.

MR. GILLILAND
U.S. Army veteran
WINDER - Sam W. Gilliland, 80, diedWednesday, November 29, 2000.
Mr. Gilliland was bornin Barrow County, a son of the late Henry and Dora Etheridge Gilliland.
He was retired from the U.S. Army, with the rank of master sergeant, and was a member of New Liberty United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, December 1, at New Liberty United Methodist Church with the Revs. Jaj Jones and Freddie O'Kelley officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with full military honors.
Mr. Gilliland is survived by his wife, Bell Wood Gilliland, Winder; five sisters, Ruby Sizemore, Marietta, Lois Wehunt, Maude Gilliland and Joyce Carter, all of Hoschton, and Betty Brady, Cornelia; three brothers, Quinton Gilliland, Hoschton, Charlie Gilliland, Talladega, Ala., and Roy Gilliland, Cleveland; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Carter Funeral Home, Winder.

MRS. TURNER
Grace Fellowship Church of God member
WINDER - Mrs. Charlotte Turner, 80, diedMonday, November 27, 2000.
Mrs. Turner was bornin Somerville, N.J. She had resided in Winder since 1972 and was a member of Grace Fellowship Church of God in Watkinsville.
Mrs. Turner had been a food service worker with Russell Middle School in Winder.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, December 1, in the chapel of Carter Funeral Home, Winder, with the Rev. Tracy Reynolds officiating.
Mrs. Turner is survived by her husband, Orie B. "Tiny" Turner, Winder; three sons, Bruce Turner and Carl Turner, both of Winder, and Richard Turner, Manville, N.J.; three sisters, Frieda Palmer and Ann Ambrose, both of Ft. Myers, Fla., and Metta Brienza, Bridgewater, N.J.; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Georgia Sherriff's Youth Homes Inc., P.O. Box 1000, Stockbridge, GA 30281-8000, in memory of Mrs. Turner.

Jackson County native
JEFFERSON - William D. "Billy" Bond, 58, diedTuesday, February 20, 2001, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville, following a sudden illness.
A native of Jackson County, Mr. Bond was a son of the late Dallas Harper Bond and Idoomie Stephens Bond.
He was retired from the ABB Company, Athens, and was a member of the First Christian Church, Jefferson.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, February 23, in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson, with Minister Tom Plank, Dr. Franklin Scott and the Rev. Claude McBride officiating. Burial was in Woodbine Cemetery, Jefferson. Cody Guined, Shane Guined, Jeff Ormsby, Mike Ormsby, Nicholas Smith, Eric Eliasson, Drew Benson and Matthew Chapman served as pallbearers.
Mr. Bond is survived by his wife, Shirley Roberts Bond, Jefferson; one son, Dallas Bond, Jefferson; one daughter, Elayna Bond, Jefferson; and two sisters, Mable Reems, Winder, and Dallas Ann Dennis, Dallas.

A native of Jackson County, Mrs. Swindle was the daughter of the late Grover Huger and Flora Hood Coleman. She was the wife of the late Harold T. Swindle.
Mrs. Swindle was a member of Nicholson Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 25, at Nicholson Baptist Church with the Revs. Terry Smith and Ervin Goss officiating. Burial was in the Nicholson Cemetery.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Jack Pirkle, Gainesville; son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Jackie Swindle, Nicholson; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Mr. Milford was bornin Gilmer County on July 28, 1941, a son of Everette Massey Milford, Commerce, and the late Ernest Milton Milford.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Commerce.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, February 26, at the First Baptist Church of Commerce with the Rev. Kent Cranford officiating. Burial was in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce.

Mrs. Gearing was bornMay 27, 1944, in Clarke County. She was a daughter of Thomas H. and Estelle Sorrow Matthews, Athens.
Mrs. Gearing was a homemaker and was a member of Living Waters Worship Center.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 27, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. William Whitfield and Dennis Kesler officiating. Burial was in the Center United Methodist Church cemetery.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gearing is survived by her husband, Ray Gearing, Nicholson; two brothers, Herbert Matthews, Danielsville, and James H. Matthews, Jefferson; four sisters, Dianne Compton, Comer, Edna Landrum and Louise Marlow, both of Athens, and Martha Patrick, Danielsville; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Miss Murray is survived by three sisters, Hazel Lee Murray, Milledgeville, Wilma E. Richey, Pittsburgh, Pa., and Frances D. Turnor, Dallas.

CUMMING - Frank Hubert Tate, 85, formerly of Jackson County, diedSaturday, February 24, 2001, at Chestnut Ridge Nursing Home following an extended illness.
Mr. Tate was bornJune 4, 1915, in Jackson County. He was a son of the late Robert and Julia Hulsey Tate.
Mr. Tate was retired from Lockheed and was a member of Chattahoochee Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, February 26, at Mountain Creek Baptist Church, Pendergrass, with the Rev. Kenneth Brewer officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Tate is survived by his wife, Lottie Mae Tate, Cumming; two daughters, Delores Lashley, Cumming, and Delaine McCarthy, Roswell; two sons, Benny Darrell Tate, Acworth, and Eddie Tate, Lilburn; two sisters, Lillie Mae Ferguson, Gillsville, and Maggie Pethel, Talmo; two brothers, Howard Tate, Eastman, and Otis Tate, Talmo; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

A native of Nicholson, Mr. Sailors was a son of Hope Swindle Sailors and the late John Sailors.
He was retired as manager of Army and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES).
Funeral services were held at 12:30 p.m. Monday, February 26, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, East. Burial was in the Erastus Christian Church cemetery, Commerce.
In addition to his mother, Mr. Sailors is survived by his wife, Stella P. Sailors; two daughters, Sandy McKinley, Atlanta, and Sherry Tichenor, Lexington, Ky.; two sons, Sam R. "Rusty" Sailors Jr., Gilbert, Ariz., and Richard "Rick" Sailors, Yukon, Okla.; one sister, Wanda Hoffer, Conyers; one brother, Phillip Sailors, Jenson Beach, Fla.; and 14 grandchildren.
