HOMER - Gregory Bathurst, 54, died Saturday, April 7, 2001, at Athens Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Bathurst was born March 9, 1947, in Olian, N.Y. He was a son of the late Howard and Anna Bathurst.
Mr. Bathurst was an automotive mechanic and was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Blood Warriors Motorcycle Church.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Vaughn Howington officiating. Burial was in the Silver Shoals Baptist Church cemetery, Homer.
Mr. Bathurst is survived by his wife, Carolyn Bathurst, Homer; one daughter, Rebecca Chapman, Toccoa; two brothers, Ronnie Zelle, Phoenix, Ariz., and Bill Bathurst, Olian, N.Y.; one sister, Letha Wilbanks, Saint Joe, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

MRS. LEWIS
Grove Level Baptist member
MAYSVILLE - Mrs. Stella Lewis, 88, died Friday, April 6, 2001, at Scenic View Health Care Center.
Mrs. Lewis was born April 13, 1912, in Georgia, a daughter of the late Oliver D. and Lula Hooper Wilbanks.
She was a homemaker and was a member of Grove Level Baptist Church. Mrs. Lewis was preceded in death by her husband, Sharp Lewis, and a son, Regis Lewis.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 8, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Jerry Mize officiating. Burial was in the Grove Level Baptist Church cemetery.
Survivors include four sons, Jack Lewis, Robert D. Lewis, Jerry L. Lewis and Telvia S. Lewis, all of Maysville; three daughters, Henrietta Dorsey, Maysville, Penny Jordan, Gainesville, and Mary L. Glore, Mt. Airy; one sister, Lois Harper, Rutledge; 29 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

MR. OWENSBY
World War II veteran
LILBURN - Roscoe Herbert Owensby, 78, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at his residence.
Mr. Owensby was born September 15, 1922, in Georgia, a son of the late Roscoe Herbert and Hettie Bell Barrett Owensby.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army, and had worked as a mechanic with Northwest Airlines. Mr. Owensby was a member of Lilburn First Baptist Church, Lilburn.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 6, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Henry Webb officiating. Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
Mr. Owensby is survived by his wife, Geraldine Owensby, Lilburn; one son, Steven Owensby, Fayetteville; two daughters, Cathy Lord, Maysville, and Sandra Scoggins, Dacula; one brother, Bobby J. Owensby, Lincolnton; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

MR. WOOD
Retired carpenter
HULL - Luther E. Wood, 81, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001.
Mr. Wood was a son of the late Hinton and Lenora Wilson Wood and the husband of the late Vera Youngblood Wood.
He was a retired carpenter.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Friday, April 6, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Michael Newman Sr. officiating. Burial was in Jackson Memorial Park, Jefferson. Tommy Wood, Micha Quarles, Scot Carson, T.J. Clark, Willie Epps and Church Toney served as pallbearers.
Survivors include three sons, Luther E. Wood Jr., Neese, Stanley Wood, Nicholson, and Thomas Wood, Ila; five daughters, Marie Carson, Commerce, Dorothy Harper, Ocala, Fla., Mary Helen Quarles, Watkinsville, Patricia Wood, Hull, and Shelia Herring, Comer; one sister, Ethel Epps, Athens; 32 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Willie L. Craig Jr.
Willie Lee Craig Jr., 69, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., died Thursday, November 1, 2001, at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Craig was born August 25, 1932, in Jefferson, a son of the late Willie Lee and Grace Reynolds Craig.
Mr. Craig moved to Myrtle Beach in 1998 from Bennettsville, S.C., where he was a retired CEO with Marlboro Electric. He was past president of the Bennettsville Chamber of Commerce, Bennettsville Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow, and a former deacon and elder of Bennettsville Presbyterian Church. He received the S.C. Ambassador of Economics Development Award from the governor's office and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Myrtle Beach, S.C. Mr. Craig was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
A memorial service was held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, November 3, in the chapel of McMillan-Small Funeral Home, Myrtle Beach, S.C., with the Rev. Robert Wilkes officiating. Burial was in Jefferson.
Mr. Craig is survived by his wife, Wytonna (Tonnie) Craig; two sons, Mark Alan Craig, and wife, Teresa, Acworth, and Kerry Lee Craig, and wife, Judy, Florence, S.C.; and four grandchildren, Trisha McMichen, Kelly Craig, Brandon Braxton and Cameron Craig.

Elizabeth H. Kirkman
Mrs. Elizabeth Holloman Kirkman, 84, of McLeansville, N.C., died Tuesday, November 6, 2001, at Britthaven of Guilford after a short illness.
A native of Lenoir County, N.C., Mrs. Kirkman was born September 27, 1917. She retired from Cone Mills, with over 30 years of service, and was a member of Lebanon Baptist Church, McLeansville, N.C.
Mrs. Kirkman's husband, Robert Lee Kirkman, died on September 9, 1994. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Ronald Wayne Kirkman, and a daughter-in-law, Betty S. Kirkman.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, November 8, in the Lebanon Baptist Church cemetery.
Survivors include two sons, James Lee Kirkman, Jefferson, and David V. Kirkman (Pat), McLeansville, N.C.; one sister, Mary Gossett, Bristol, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Don Kirkman, Kenny Kirkman (Jerrie), Eddie Kirkman (Lisa), Chris Kirkman (Amy), and Kathy Gillespie (John); and six great-grandchildren, Kristy, Eva Grace, Anne Marie and Olivia Kirkman and Josh and Daniel Gillespie.

Barbara N. Poole
Mrs. Barbara N. Poole, 67, of Commerce, died Thursday, November 1, 2001, at her residence.
Mrs. Poole was born February 8, 1934, in Anderson County, S.C. She was a daughter of the late Grady Henry and Elise Christina Miles Nichols.
Mrs. Poole was a retired emergency management coordinator for Gwinnett County and was a member of New Salem United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Banks County Planning Commission.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 4, at New Salem United Methodist Church with the Rev. Don Scott officiating. Burial was in the Poole Family Cemetery, Commerce.
Mrs. Poole is survived by her husband, Roy Poole, Commerce; one son, Roy Poole Jr., Commerce; one daughter, Sherri Blackburn, Commerce; three brothers, David Nichols, Commerce, Gene Nichols, Lula, and James Ray Nichols, Maysville; one sister, Virginia Evans, Commerce; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

LaRue O. Burns
Mrs. LaRue O'Dillon Burns, 76, of Lavonia, Franklin County, died Saturday, November 3, 2001, at her home.
A native of Jackson County, Mrs. Burns was a daughter of the late Alvyn and Lillie Elder O'Dillon.
She spent her life in homemaking and devotion to her husband, five children, 11 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many friends and family.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Monday, November 5, in the chapel of Bridges Funeral Home, Athens, with the Rev. Tom F. Lang officiating. A private burial will be held at a later date.
Mrs. Burns is survived by her husband, Alonzo Merritt Burns Sr., Lavonia; daughter and son-in-law, Janice Burns Dunning and Steve, Cary, N.C.; sons and daughters-in-law, Alonzo Merritt Burns Jr. and Barbara Jean, Mauricetown, N.J., Larry Blakely Burns and Mary Ann, Wauconda, Ill., Andrew James Burns and Mikki, Bremen, and Daniel Gilbert Burns and Carol, Isle of Palms, S.C.; 11 grandchildren, Meredith Dunning Decker, Nathan Dunning, Lisa Burrell, Gregory Burns, Christopher Burns and wife, Tiffany, Jessica Burns, Richard Burns, Kristin Burns, Ashley Burns, Brittany Burns and Carrie Burns; and four great-grandchildren, William Decker, Aaron Decker, Dillon Burrell and Lindsey Burrell.

Eugene G. Poole
Eugene Grafton Poole, 63, of Griffin, died Wednesday, October 31, 2001, at his residence.
Mr. Poole was born in Homer on October 2, 1938, a son of the late William Fletcher Poole and the late Ida Mae Massey Poole.
He was a carpenter.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 10, at Webbs Creek Baptist Church, Banks County.
Mr. Poole is survived by his wife, Helen E. Poole; sons and daughters-in-law, Troy and Terri Poole and Tracy and Johnna Poole, all of Griffin, and Trent and Amy Poole, Locust Grove; two sisters, Barbara Jones, Lula, and Carolyn Wilson, Commerce; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 135-B Bradford Square, Fayetteville, GA 30215, in memory of Mr. Poole.

Marshall C. Cauthen Jr.
Marshall C. Cauthen Jr., 79, of Winterville, died Sunday, October 21, 2001.
A native of Clarke County, Mr. Cauthen was the son of Mary A. Cauthen, Winterville, and the late Marshall C. Cauthen Sr.
He was retired from the University of Georgia and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Mr. Cauthen was a member of Center Methodist Church and a member of the Winterville Civitan Club.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 3, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, East, Athens, with the Rev. Sanford Willard officiating. Burial was in the Winterville Cemetery. Members of the Winterville Civitan Club, along with Ed Fleeman, served as pallbearers.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include a sister and brother-in-law, Luann and William E. Orr, Winterville; one nephew and three nieces.
